A Distraction
~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry, didn't proofread because One of my teammates is standing behind my chair, and I feel pressure to hurry up and upload.
She says hi.
~~~Tyler's POV~~~
I needed a distraction.
Bo had been avoiding me since we had kissed. Whenever we ended up in the same room together, he would make up some excuse and get out of there as fast as he could. I mean, yeah it was really awkward to be near each other, but was he so uncomfortable that he couldn't stand to be in the same room as me?
Another thing that was really confusing me was the way I was feeling. The kiss had been magical and perfect, and it made me feel so... well, as corny as it sounds, complete. How was it possible that he didn't feel what I felt?
So, a couple days after the kiss, I made the decision to talk to Stark. I had an idea about what I could do to get my mind off of things, but I needed Stark's help in order to be able to do it.
After my training session that day, I made my way through the house until I was standing outside of Stark's office. Suddenly nervous, I hesitated with my hand resting on the brass door knob.
"I know you're out there, Tyler." Stark's voice made me jump. "Come on in." I took a deep breath and opened the door. Stark looked up from his computer screen and smiled at me. He pointed to chair across from him and I sat down stiffly. "What can I help you with?"
"Well," I said, not meeting his eyes, "I was wondering if I could go to school." There was silence, and I looked up to see Stark staring at me with a blank face, and I got this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. However, I wasn't about to give up.
"I know that I'm supposed to be training during the day, but I thought maybe I could join the after school training sessions instead. I just miss school, and I know it's been three years, but I don't want to be uneducated, and-" I had so much more I could say, but Stark held his hand up to stop me.
"You want to go back to school?" I nodded vigorously. "You know it will be very challenging?" he asked.
"I'm aware," I said, "But that doesn't mean I won't try my hardest."
Stark leaned back in his chair and chuckled. "Good. I'll call the school and have you start tomorrow."
I stared at him for a moment in disbelief. At first, I had thought that he was going to shoot me down completely. "Seriously?" Stark nodded in confirmation, and I brought my hands up to my mouth and bounce in my chair.
"Thank you so much, Stark!" I cried, and then a thought crossed my mind. "Why are you doing this?" I asked. "Don't get me wrong; I really appreciate this, but you aren't related to me. I'm not even a part of your pack."
"Nonsense," said Stark with a dismissive wave of his hand. "From what I've heard, you're going to be a part of this family soon."
"Yeah," I replied, grinning proudly, "Anton told me that I'm making extraordinary progress." I noticed Stark's cheery expression falter for a moment, but he composed himself so quickly, I thought maybe I had just imagined it.
"Yes, well," said Stark, "I will make sure to call the school as soon as I get the chance, okay?" I nodded and stood up, catching the hint that he had some "Alpha" stuff to get back to. I thanked him again and then left his office.
Now in a good mood, I searched the house for Anton and then told him the good news. He congratulated me and told me that he believed I was up to the challenge of making up for three years of no schooling.
I couldn't find anyone else to tell, since there was still about half an hour until everyone I knew got home from school, so I ended up going back to my room. I found a couple pieces of paper and started to write down everything I could remember from the last time I had been in school.
Looking down at what I had written, I frowned. I had been a freshman in high school when I had been captured, and the three years in captivity had made a lot of the information I had learned fuzzy in my mind. I refused to give up before I started, though.
A few minutes later, I heard what sounded like people sprinting down the hallway outside my room. Suddenly, Dot and Fae burst through my door, and Dot held up something in front of her. I instantly recognized it as a credit card.
"We're going back to school shopping!"

"I'll be right back with your schedule, honey," crooned the sweet, old secretary. She got up out of her chair and waddled into a different room, leaving me to stand next to her desk with Anton. According to my new fake birth certificate, Anton was my uncle, and I had been sent to live with him for the rest of the year.
"Are you nervous?" asked Anton.
"Nope," I said, popping the p. In reality, I was terrified, but I wasn't going to admit it. I was scared because I'm so behind, and I didn't know anyone, and I can't honestly even remember what it felt like to go to a high school.
The old woman came back and handed me a schedule, a pretty thin handbook, and a map to the school. "There you go, sweetheart. If you have any questions, come on back down, okay?"
"Thanks!" I said, flashing a smile, and then Anton and I walked out of the office.
"You ready?" he asked, and I nodded once. Anton smiled and said, "If you need me, or it's too hard, just text me or call and I'll come get you." Anton gestured towards my pocket, where the new phone Stark had insisted I buy was snugly tucked.
"I'll be fine," I said rolling my eyes. "I'll see you after school." Anton laughed and said goodbye, and I watched as he walked down the hall and out the front door. Now, I left alone in the middle of an abandoned hallway with no idea where to go.
I checked my schedule to see that my first class was English in room 314, so I hopped up the main staircase to the third floor, the sound of my footsteps reverberating through the empty halls. I located room 314 and took a deep breath before pushing through the door.
All eyes fell on me, and I tugged on my cropped leather jacket self-consciously. Dot and Fae had dragged me around the mall shopping, and they ended up spending way too much money, completely ignoring my protests. I ended up coming back to the pack house loaded with so many unnecessary bags of clothes, but Stark didn't comment when he saw them.
"Are you the new student?" asked the teacher.
Obviously, snorted my wolf.
"Yeah," I said politely.
The teacher nodded and then clapped his hands together. "Class, this is our new student, Tyler Grayson. Everyone be nice!" The teacher then directed me to a desk in the back and resumed his lesson. I hurried through the rows of desks and dropped my backpack on the floor next to me.
I pulled out a notebook like everyone else, but the teacher started talking about thematic ideas and motifs, and pretty soon, I was lost. I ended up just sitting there and staring at the whiteboard full of terms that I didn't understand.
The bell rang and my classmate shot out of their chairs and out of the room before I even finished putting away my supplies. I sighed and shuffled out of the room, and I was paying such close attention to the map in my hands that I wasn't watching where I was going. I slammed into something hard, and
I fell flat on my ass, the papers in my hands going flying.
I looked up, and my breath caught in my throat. Of course, the person I ran into had to be the guy I had come to school to avoid.
Bo.
