Chapter 22

Sam's PoV

"Son of a bitch!" Dean shouted as he kicked his legs out in frustration. This shifter had been clever in where he'd tied us up, giving us nothing to help us escape. We'd been stuck here for hours without making a dent on our plan to escape. We really were screwed.

"Maybe Cass will try and-" I began but Dean interrupted.

"No, he's off chasing a tip about Kelly. That's more important than saving our asses." Dean sighed, letting his head drop down.

"Did he say who it was from or what it was?" I questioned, unsure as to how fruitful this chase was going to be. Dean shook his head.

"Nope. He seemed to be in a rush though so I assumed it was someone worthwhile." I let out a flat laugh. Dean shot me a glare.

"And who gains such a title from you, Dean? Because as far as I remember, you don't trust any hunter. Hell, half the time you don't even trust me." Dean rolled his eyes and tutted.

"Let's not start this again, Sammy." He shook his head.

"What?" I began, getting riled up again. This argument had come about so many times but he always seemed to brush it under the carpet and get away from the issue.

"I'm not arguing over that hunter girl." He dismissed me once again.

"Grace." I corrected him. "A hunter who was actually really good, helped save my life - and yours - and WANTED to help us save the world."

"Yeah and then snuck off without so much as a goodbye or kiss my ass." Dean said snidely. "If she really wanted to help us why did she ditch us Sammy? Huh?" His voice got louder and louder as he got angrier.

"Because you hated on her from the moment we had to work together? You made her feel like an imposter and undermined her." I snapped back.

"Look, I get it, you got all googly eyed as soon as you saw her but this whole thing is bigger than her Sammy. Much much bigger." My mouth dropped open at his reply. How could he think like that? He had such severe tunnel vision he literally couldn't see the help in front of him. I went to open my mouth to respond but suddenly, an echo was heard close to where we were.

"Sam? Dean?"

We both exchanged glances. Was that who we thought it was? Relief washed over me. At least we weren't trapped down here any more.

"Cass?" I shouted out but Dean was quick to shoot me another glare.

"Shh!" He snapped. "What if it's the shifter again?"

"Why would he be pretending to find us?" I quizzed, receiving a shrug from Dean. Castiel appeared seconds later and gave us a relieved smile.

"Thank God you're okay." He smiled as he pulled out his blade and cut the ropes, freeing us effortlessly. I stood up and hugged him quickly, my silver blade pressed up against his skin. There was no reaction. Dean let out a smile.

"Are we glad to see you!" Dean said as he dusted himself down and packed his weapons back into his clothes. "That is one nasty shifter, we've got to get after him and fast."

"Don't worry, I already know where he is. Luling." Castiel said firmly, grabbing both Dean and I as he teleported us into a hotel room, supposedly in the town he'd just mentioned. We looked around, desperate to try and get our bearings after our weird transportation experience.

"Baby?" Dean said as he ran towards the window and looked outside. "Yeah, thanks for the lift Cass but I had a perfectly good ride."

"No time." He said as he headed to the door, opening it and leaving without another word to us. We rushed after him and stood beside him as he looked around the car park. "The car's gone. Sam, can you track GPS on a phone?"

We pulled up to the town hall just as my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw Castiel's number. My finger hovered over the button to answer it just as Dean looked over, saw my phone and shoved my hand away from it.

"Don't answer that." He barked, making me jump.

"What? Why? It's only Cass." I tried to play it cool, Dean wouldn't care if I spoke to Castiel about the case normally so he'd have to go along with it.

"We're in the middle of a case. He can wait until we've staked the place out." As Dean looked out of the window at the town hall, I quickly sent a message telling him I was at the town hall and to hurry.

"You're right. Sorry." I said as I put my phone back in my pocket. "Shall we go?" He got out of the car and trudged ahead, showing his fake FBI badge to a police officer standing guard at the door. He pointed back at me before walking in, letting the door shut behind him. I followed suit, my bag slung over my shoulder as I showed my badge and headed in. The place was dark and dingy, boxes packed up in the corners as if someone was moving out. The smell of sulphur hit instantly, like someone had just let a stink bomb off in the building. Demons.

"Byron, come check this out." Dean called over to me and I barely hesitated as I followed him into the back of the hall where another dead body was. "Definite demon activity again. Do you think we're close to Kelly?" He whispered to me, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Truthfully, I did. We were getting demon activity daily now, they were definitely looking for something and my thought was information on Kelly. The places that were hit were likely to be places she had visited and they'd caught her scent but when staff couldn't ID her or couldn't remember, they got killed. I was not going to tell this shifter all that information.

"I don't know. I mean, they seem to be stealing artefacts from local historical places so maybe it's something different?" I said, trying to sound as legitimate as possible.

"I was afraid you were going to say that."
