Chapter 10
Grace's PoV
We'd carried unconscious Sam into the bunker and chained him to a chair in their torture dungeon. It was the safest place for all of us, knowing Sam would soon wake up and experience the super strength that vampires had. Dean left me babysitting Sam whilst he ran around, getting all the ingredients for the cure. He looked stressed, tunnel vision making him see only what he needed to cure this.
"Are you sure these chains can hold him?" I took one more look at them, detailed with scribbles that looked like warding.
"For a short time yes. They're not normal handcuffs and links." Dean said as he rummaged through some cupboards.
"I see. There's some markings on it that-"
"Look this isn't hunters 101. I'm not here to teach you." Dean snapped as he finally yanked something out and ran back to the room with it. He got to work mixing the cure, pouring things and grinding things up to add to it. I noticed Sam begin to twitch and soon, he was stirring, his eyes opening as he let out a groan.
"Dean?" He said groggily, his head swaying as if he was dizzy.
"You're okay Sammy, I'm going to sort this out." Dean's tone changed instantly, his angered tone becoming soft and caring towards his brother.
"I can't... I'm so hungry." The final word came out as a growl, his fangs descended as he pulled against the chains to try and free himself, his eyes staring me down as if he was eyeing up his next meal.
"Don't give in. We're almost there." Dean sounded strong, trying to help his brother through the tough time. He poured the last thing in and finally the cure was ready. "Just drink this." Dean walked towards his brother holding the bowl.
"Dean I don't think that's a good idea..." I stood quickly, stopping him as he got nearly within an arms reach of Sam. "What if he grabs you? Or doesn't drink it? Shouldn't he be unconscious?" Without a word, Dean shoved past me with an angered sigh. Almost as if I'd given him the idea, Sam threw an arm out and wrapped his hand around Dean's neck. The bowl clattered to the ground, a small portion of the liquid sloshing onto the concrete floor.
"Sam!" Dean croaked, his hands around Sam's wrist to try and loosen the grip. It wasn't working. Dean began to gasp for breath as he kicked around, Sam lifting him inches off the floor. I looked around the room, eyeing up a shotgun which I grabbed quickly and aimed at Sam. Sam merely smiled back at me.
"Let him go."
"That isn't going to kill me." He laughed at my incompetence - although that's not what I had planned.
"I know. I'm sorry." I said before I turned the gun around and hit him hard with the end of it. The force sent him off balance and he let go of Dean, barely conscious once again. Dean wasted no time grabbing the cure again and poured it into his mouth, not one drop wasted as we stood back and waited for it to start working. There was a moment of agonising silence where we all waited with bated breath, waiting to see if the cure worked.
"Come on, come on, come on." Dean whispered to himself impatiently. I looked over and caught his eye but he looked straight back at his brother. Sam stirred, the chains groaning as he pulled himself around, trying to get free.
"Some turn quicker than others right?" I said to Dean, trying to distract him from staring at him brother without blinking.
"Yeah." He said, eyes not moving away.
"Does the dose ever need to change?" Dean's gaze left Sam for a moment as he contemplated what I'd said but it wasn't for long. Sam groaned in pain just as he vomited, bent over as liquid poured from his mouth like a tap. Dean kicked a bucket towards him to catch the fluid and watched, barely an emotion showing, as Sam continued to be sick and strain under the tension of the chains. "This means it's working though, right? Shouldn't we unchain him?"
"He was further along than others I've seen. We'll wait." Dean stated as he walked over to a table and chairs and sat down, his feet on the table. It was weird to see, this juxtaposition of emotions. One minute he seemed distressed, upset and depressed and the next he was angry, following this he seemed distant and emotionless, like a person without a soul.
"Dean." Another voice that wasn't Sam's spoke just as a person in a trench coat appeared inches from me. I jumped back, bashing into the table as I sucked in a sharp breath.
"What in the hell?" I questioned under my breath as this mysterious man held out his hand.
"Heaven actually. I'm Castiel, I'm an angel." I tentatively shook his hand, still trying to wrap my head around the fact he just told me he was an angel. Nothing ever seemed too good to be true anymore, not since I became a hunter, but some things just seemed more extraordinary than others.
"Where the hell have you been, Cass?" Dean stood up and walked towards him, jabbing a finger in his direction. There we were again, tense as he showed his emotions once more. "We needed you." He hissed before changing his wording. "I needed you."
"I told you I was following up a lead. I've got some information too." Castiel said, but paused as he looked back round to me. I held up my hands in innocence.
"Look, I'll be gone as soon as I make sure Sam's not a vamp anymore." Castiel's eyes widened at my words and he finally looked over to Sam, still being sick and groaning from the pain of the cure.
"As I said, I needed you." Dean reiterated.
"It's okay, the cure's working." Castiel smiled as he ran his eyes over Sam as if he was medically examining him without touching him. Sam let out one more groan before falling unconscious, his body only being held up by the chains. I grabbed the keys from the table and ran over, unlocking the cuffs and lowering him to the floor.
"We need to talk. Outside." Dean yanked Castiel away by his trench coat and slammed the door shut behind them, leaving me with Sam in absolute silence. I sat on the floor, away from the bucket, and pulled him away from the sick, his head resting on my legs as we waited for him to come to. Hopefully it wouldn't be too long, I had a feeling he was going to be needed to break up a fight between Dean and Castiel any time now.
