Chapter 9

*this chapter has been edited*

I nodded my head at my two superiors, "I'll do it, I'll help defeat these creatures," I announced confidently.

"Excellent!" Miss Gen proclaimed, clapping her hands enthusiastically.

"You will now call me Monroe, my father said. "What?" I asked creasing my eyebrows in confusion. "In the earth dimension you knew me as George, correct? Well daughter here you shall call me Monroe. That is my name, George Edwins was just an earth name I went by."

A pang of hurt stabbed me in the chest.

A fake name, was everything he ever built in that dimension real?

The moment of sadness was short lived.

"Let me show you a demonstration of what a typical arrow can do to the enemy," said Miss Gen. She grabbed a bow and arrow from under the desk, somersaulted onto the desk kneeling into a warrior-like stance and then she shoot the arrow in my direction.

My eyes widened in surprise and fear. I closed my eyes while trying to duck thinking it would hit me, but it just woozed past me only cutting my arm slightly. Unfortunately, it was still deep enough for blood to pour out. It hit one of the Bandid's that I had long forgotten about.

I touched my bleeding arm and glared at her, "What was that for?" I asked in anger, but instead of answering me she pointed her index finger behind me towards the Bandid.

I turned my body to find it had hit the Bandid on the chest right where the heart is located, yet it was still squirming about, trying to get free. I frowned in confusion questioning how it was still alive.

It seemed the least bit affected that it was pinned to the wall, but more worried about the arrow it seemed.

As it was still squirming I was hit by an intense pain. Feeling as though I was being burned and a sizzling sound was heard from the Bandid and I.

A sound of burning flesh.

I hissed in pain but kept my eyes trained on the Bandid, which was starting to squirm even more.

Tears prickled my eyes as the pain intensified.

As the sizzling continued, I watched with horror as the Bandid's chest started disintegrating and melting, leaving its chest wide open.

It was a sickening sight to behold as I was now getting to see how it looked on the inside but no matter how horrified I was I just couldn't look away.

I could see the Bandid's insides and I watched as more of its flesh melted away.

Imagine my surprise when I could not see any bone, marrow, or organs on the Bandid.

Its chest was completely hollow save for only a slight thing. A small glowing white light.

I felt myself getting sick. No human could live without any of its major organs, and the Bandid had none except for this weird glowing light.

"The Bandid's life force," Monroes voice explained.

The rest of the Bandid disintegrated into nothing, a pile of ash laying on the ground where the creature once was. The other Bandid had its eyes narrowed where the Bandid had stood previously. Probably angry about its death, I couldn't be sure because it did not act upon it.

She did say they serve them, maybe this happens often.

I gulped and turned around to face them but hissed in pain remembering that the arrow cut me. Whatever happened to the Bandid was happening to me really slowly, my right arm burned.

Miss Gen stood up holding a very small arrow in her hand. She opened a small container which held a green substance in it and dipped the arrow in. After doing so she approached me, removed my hand which was covering my injured one and slid the arrow and its contents on my open wound.

I hissed in pain again, but as soon as the pain came, it was gone. I looked to see that the wound was no more, almost like it was never there, but the blood on my other hand confirmed that it did in fact happen.

She gave me a tissue to whip the blood away.

"Cecile now it's time for us to join the others in the training hall and we can see what type of Sarion you are by the arrow that chooses you." Miss Gen said.

"Chooses me?" I asked incredulously.

"This is where your bow and arrow will blossom showing us who you really are. All will be explained in due time." My father said standing up.

We all stood up and exited the room. I was going to meet all the girls and if my hunch was correct Aria was there too.

The three of us made it towards a large room, which I've been told will be the training room and where my arrow was supposed to "choose" me.

We entered a grand hall where I found all the girls were practicing hand to hand combat. They wore an ancient attire that looked like something a huntress would wear.

They all stopped their training and looked at us. I felt my gaze drop, feeling like a mouse entering a lion's den.

Everyone seemed different. They looked lifeless, everyone looked deadly serious. Their eyes following our movements, but it felt as if they were solely trained on me.

I noticed Sylvia on the far end corner of the hall leaning against the wall. Her blue eyes looked serious and her auburn hair now had streaks of red around them making her look even more dangerous. Her attire was red with what looked like spikes or flames on it, I couldn't tell and a mask that covered the bottom-half of her face. She gave me a nod of acknowledgment which I returned.

I spotted Aria and smiled to myself knowing she was safe. Her grey eyes held a certain coldness that was new to me and her blonde hair now had green streaks around them. Her outfit was black with green in some areas and it had a hoodie attached to it. She smiled and gave me a nod just like Sylvia had done and I returned it.

I noticed how everyone's hair had different colored streaks. Overall, I spotted six colors: Red, blue, green, brown and the last one was white and purple.

I turned to give Miss Gen a questioning look, "What is all this? I don't understand any of it." I questioned.

Miss Gen smiled, "I thought you'd never ask child. You see Cecile we did mention us driving the creatures into this dimension right?" I nodded my head urging her to continue.

"Well this is a life and death battle that has been going on for centuries. It's either kill or be killed. The strongest survives and the weak link dies. She started.

"That's right Cecile," Monroe interjected, "This town of ours is the breeding place for warriors and hunters. We are trained to kill and hunt to keep this monsters at bay. My grandfather and great-grandfather were Ketas, which is a male hunter. I as well was trained to be one but we lost a good load of people in this battle for domination," Monroe stated, his eyes glazed over as he was possibly reminiscing about the past.

"There are male hunters? Why then were the females taken this time?" I asked incredulously.

"Well unlike Sarions which are born in multitudes. Ketas have been diminishing in numbers gradually. We can only assume that there might be only 5 Ketas left, which will take us a longer period of time to locate." Miss Gen said.

"As I said earlier you have to get the elementals from each creature in doing so we will drain them of their powers and subdue them, but take heed child, these creatures won't think twice before reaping your heart out or killing you. They are relentless, cold-blooded and ruthless." Miss Gen said.

I was feeling more and more drained as I remembered my previous nightmares. A wave of nausea hit me as I realized I will be meeting those things and this time if it got me I'd be dead for real. "I think I'm understanding, but please explain to me about how each girl has a different engravement and attire," I asked and I watched as Miss Gen's face light up with glee.

"I'm glad you asked, we place all six arrows in front of you and the arrow that chooses you will showcase itself once you touch it. The colors represent what type of hunter you are Cecile. She said.

"What type of Sarions are they?" I asked. At this Monroe lifted up his hand and five people came to stand in front of us and these people were: Aria, Jessica, Jade, Rachael and Sylvia.

Arrows were placed in front of them, but there was a sixth one with no one to stand in .

Aria stood behind the green arrow, Jessica the white and purple one, Jade the brown one, Rachael behind the blue one and Sylvia behind the red one.

"These are the leaders of the each of the groups," Miss Gen said and she proceeded to point at each one of them, "Aria here and her group are called Acid Burners. The arrow I threw at the Bandid earlier is the one that this group possess. It burns away at flesh, marrow, bones and joints; making them melt away as you have witnessed." Aria and her group wore a black short jumpsuit with a green streak from the midsection to one shoulder it and a hoodie. Their outfits were covering their tattoos so I couldn't look at them.

"Step forward and touch each arrow, then we'll know what type of Sarion you are and your leader of course."

I stepped forward and grabbed the green arrow, nothing happened.

I moved on to the white and purple arrow, also nothing happened.

Then, came the brown, blue and red arrow, again, nothing happened.

Lastly, I stood at the only arrow that had no leader or team. My father and Miss Gen shared a look.

Tentatively, I reached my hand and grabbed it, the moment I did a surge of energy intruded into my being. I felt a strange sensation in my arm, feeling a severe pain as if someone was probing needles into my veins.

I watched as the engravement started forming and growing bigger. I touched my arm and groaned in pain. It was hurting real bad as more of my skin gained articulate designs, but my bow and arrow didn't have any of the five colors mentioned. I knelt down as I felt my scalp have this burning sensation all round. I touched my hair to take notice that my red hair now had black streaks around it and my engravement, still black but spirals now surrounded the mist along with a few zigzag patterns.

After some agonizing minutes the pain ended, and I could finally concentrate.

Miss Gen knelt beside me and observed me with a shocked expression. "I thought your kind was gone. They were extinctIt can't be," she mumbled shaking her head in disbelief.

"Was something wrong with my kind?" I asked getting more and more confused.

"This was the most dangerous and deadly kind, but unfortunately their kind was wiped out. Well, we thought they were, until now." Monroe said looking shocked as well.

Everyone was silent for a while, but then Miss Gen eventually broke the silence.

"Let me explain what the rest of the Sarions capabilities are, and their name. Jessica here and her group are called Air Crushers. Their arrows are as fast as the wind and once it hits its opponent-"

"Why not let us just demonstrate what we can do?" Interrupted Jade.

Miss Gen nodded her head, "Very well,"

Before they could go, I looked at each of their attires. Sylvia's outfit was red with flame-like features and an upper body armor protecting her with a mask on the lower-half of her face.

Aria's was a black green jumpsuit with a hoodie. Jade's was a brown two piece that looked like something ancient Barbarians would wear with what looked like fur on certain parts.

Her outfit was the only one that allowed me to get a look at the engravement, it was bigger in size with slashes of brown going up from her arm and meeting round the bow and arrow.

Jessica's outfit was a long light blue piece which also covered her engravement and lastly Rachel's outfit was a combination of white and purple with an elegant feature to it.

"Let me just tell you what the other Sarions are called before they show you what capabilities they possess," Miss Gen said, " Rachael and her group are Water Bearers, Jade and her group are Stone Hearts and finally Sylvia and her group are Fire Throwers," Miss Gen said nodding at the girls to begin.

Five target practice dummies emerged from the ground and I watched as all leaders gathered their bows and arrows.

Aria was the first to start and she sprinted off, making a back flip and hitting her target perfectly. Like what happened with the Bandid, it started disintegrating into ashes of nothing.

Jade was the next to go and she spun around and somersaulted before hitting her target. I could see the dummy start to turn to stone from the center before it broke apart and crumbled to the ground.

Jessica followed soon after running and doing some front flips before she hit her target. The dummy started being swooped in the air and soon the thing crumpled up like a piece of paper then it fell to the ground. If this was any living being it would resolve in bones being crushed.

I shuddered.

Rachael went next doing cart wheels that were too fast for my eyes to follow before landing and hitting her target. A blue wave of water surrounded the dummy, submerging it into the water. My amazement only grew as I watched the water transform into a dragon and mercilessly devour the dummy.

Lastly, Sylvia went on doing multiple back and front flips before somersaulting mid- air and throwing the arrow whilst still ascending. As soon as it hit the target a flame so bright started burning the dummy and it burnt into nothing. I watched mesmerized at everything.

"Well what can I do?" I asked, turning to find Miss Gen with a black bow and a case full of arrows along with a black attire. "This is an outfit black Hunters wore, wear it starting from tomorrow's training" she said handing it to me.

It was black, and it looked like something an ancient princess would wear, but the hoodie and mask contradicted that notion. A perfect color for hiding in the shadows, and killing best at night.

Miss Gen gave me permission to try out my bow and arrow. I stood in front as everyone around me looked onward as to what a so-called Black Hunter could do.

I took a deep breath and felt a foreign power surge through me.

I found myself running and back flipping in the air, which was a surprise for me because I didn't even know anything related to gymnastics, but nevertheless continued until I landed and shot my arrow towards the dummy.

The arrow hit the dummy and I watched along with everybody else in the room, as black lines started appearing on the dummy in a zigzag pattern, mist exited from every opening and tore the dummy from the inside and finally joining together and disappearing with the mist.

I watched all this with my mouth agape, and looked around to find the rest of the girls in the same state.

I smiled, victoriously, feeling happy of this new found strength.

I was ready to fight these things until my last breathe. They couldn't live after endangering the human population.

I was going to end them.
