Chapter 32
After getting the kids up and dressed, they took them down to the park, each parent was pushing one of the children, Lindsey of course having Evie
"I think it's funny how our kids like the parent that isn't biological better."
"I know! It's so weird isn't it!"
Lindsey chuckled "Oh well."
"David does love you though Lindsey" Stevie said seriously
"I know he does."
Sitting down on a bench, they let Evie go and play with the other kids, keeping an eye on her they started to talk
"Do you feel okay?"
"How do you mean?"
"Physically."
"To be honest, no, not really"
"What's wrong?"
"I just hurt everywhere, I cramp all the time" Stevie told him
"I'll take you to the doctor."
"I'm sure everything will be fine"
"What kind of cramping?"
"Like here..." she placed her hand just under her bump
"Does it hurt bad?"
"Sometimes I can't move..."
"I'll call the doctor and make you an appointment."
"I've been before, they don't tell me anything"
"It has to be for a reason."
"They just tell me it's because I work so much"
"Well you aren't going to work anymore."
"Yeah..." she said watching Evie and running he belly
"We'll be okay."
Stevie nodded
"So you want to hear about mom?"
"Yeah."
"Ask away!"
"What happened..."
"She kept telling me you weren't coming back, because I was horrible to live with, and I was psychotic"
"I would never have imagined that she was like that," Lindsey said
"Me either...she called our babies bad names"
"What did she say about our children?"
"She said she didn't know how we could love and look after each other's...bastards..."
Lindsey fumed
"It's okay Lindsey..." she tried to soothe him
"No it isn't!"
"I cried for so long...then she brought Jimmy up and I lost it"
"That bitch..."
"Lindsey, it's done with..."
"No."
"No what?"
"I won't let this go."
"We know that you love our Evie"
"But she had the nerve to say that!"
"I know...I don't know what I did wrong..." she told him sadly
"You did nothing."
"Daddy didn't even try and stop her..." Stevie had tears in her eyes
"You have me now."
"Yeah but their my parents..."
"They kicked you out and bad mouthed our kids."
"Because I did this..." Stevie lifted her shirt up a little until Lindsey saw a silver line running down her side
"What is that?"
"I was tired of hurting..." she cried
"What did you do?"
"What does it look like?"
"You tried to cut the baby out?"
"Lindsey no..." she took his hand
"Then, what?"
"I was going to end it all..."
Lindsey looked away from her, "When?"
"A few weeks after we went separate ways"
Closing his eyes he bowed his head, "If I'd have lost you..."
"He moved..."
"What?" Lindsey placed his hand on her stomach
"That's what stopped me...he moved for the first time"
"Really?"
"Yeah, he must of moved an arm or something, but he stopped me"
"That's amazing."
"It was...but mom came in and found me, called me a bunch of names and kicked me out"
"I'm taking care of you now."
"I know..." she nuzzled into his shoulder
"How about we find a baby sitter to keep the kids so you and I can have some alone time?"
"I would love that...Anna would look after them"
"Let's get packed and then we'll call her."
"Okay...Evie baby, it's time to go home" Evie said goodbye to the kids she was playing with and ran back to her parents and into her pushchair
They walked back to the apartment and called Anna who picked them up almost half an hour later
Suddenly there was a very empty quiet apartment
Lindsey laid down on the bed, patting the spot beside him.
Stevie laid beside him on her side, propping herself up on her elbow as she watched him
"Do you remember how we used to lay around naked all the time in our old apartment?" Lindsey smiled
"God yes." Stevie laughed "We couldn't keep our hands off each other"
"We still can't."
"Well not on my part anyway" she chuckled
"You are irresistible."
"I'm fat, I've got swollen ankles...yeah I'm such a catch" she joked
"You're drop dead gorgeous."
"Thank you, Lindsey" she stroked his cheek
"You're very welcome."
"So what did you want to do?" She gestured to the empty apartment
"Just let me hold you."
"I can do that" turning over he scooted up behind her, wrapping his arms around her the best that he could
"I'm a little too big."
"You're beautiful..."
Stevie blushed and his her face in his chest
"I can still make you blush...after all this time?"
"Of course!"
Pulling her face up with his hand, he kissed her lips
"I love you."
"And I you!" They kissed again
Stevie laid her head against his chest, "I've missed this."
"Me too, the hotels I had to stay in were so lonely" he admitted, playing with her hair
"Well you have me now."
"I used to think about you every night..." he gave her a squeeze
"Same here."
"Mm, did you now?" He giggled
"Yes."
"I like that!" He told her
"I did too."
"What?"
"I enjoyed dreaming about you."
"What did you dream about, baby?" He stroked her arm lightly
"A white picket fence and a yard full of children."
"What do you call full of children?" He laughed
"Like six."
"Jesus...six kids..."
"Just a dream Lindsey, not a reality."
"Hey! I didn't say six kids would be bad"
"Financially it would be a nightmare."
"I might just keep knocking you up now"
"Why?" She chuckled
"One because you are sexy as hell when you're pregnant...and two I love having children with you"
"Really?"
"Really what?"
"You think I'm sexy?"
"I do...there's two of us that do actually"
"Two?"
Nodding he took her hand and placed it over his jeans, so she could feel exactly what she did to him
"Ohh I see," Stevie smirked, rubbing him firmly
"I'm like that twenty four, seven around you..."
"I can tell."
"Are you saying, I don't affect you at all Miss Nicks?"
"No, no. I'm not saying that."
"I should hope not" he smiled
"It's just easier to hide."
"It might be for others, but I know exactly where to look"
"Mmhm, and where is that?"
"Hmm, let me think?" He pretended to ponder for a second before slipping his hand into Stevie's skirt and underwear
"Did I guess right?" He asked
"Maybe."
"It certainly feels like it to me..." he said running his finger up and down
Stevie sighed contently, laying against him
Lindsey lazily moved his finger, taking his time
"That feels good, baby," Stevie moaned breathily
"I wanted it to, you deserve it" gently he slipped a finger in to her, and slowly thrust it in and out
"I like it soft and easy like this." Stevie closed her eyes
"Good, because that's exactly how I'm going to give it you" he moved slightly and started to kiss her neck
Stevie laid on her back, spreading her legs as much as she physically could.
Lindsey stopped for a second, only long enough to remove her underwear, before carrying on
"That will make it easier now" he told her, and she spread her legs a little more
"I don't think we've ever been this gentle."
"No, I don't think we have, I'm finding it so pleasurable though..."
Stevie nodded, playing with Lindsey's curls as she kept her eyes closed
Lindsey continued to pleasure her, removing his fingers from inside, so he could rub her most sensitive part gently
She gripped his arm tightly, moaning softly
"You always amaze me how wet you get" he whispered in her ear, his words caused her to moan again
"I'm going to come," she whispered
Speeding his finger up only by a fraction, he gave her clit one finally stroke and she grabbed onto his arm, digging her nails in
She moaned loudly, praising him
"Mmm, that's my good girl" he helped her through her orgasm
Stevie laid limp against him, "That was amazing."
"You are amazing...you were so beautiful" he nudged her head
"Your turn," Stevie said, sliding her hand into his pants
He jerked as she made skin on skin contact with him m
Stevie nibbled at his neck, moving her hand slowly
"Mmmm...baby that feels so good..."
"You feel good," Stevie said against his neck
Lindsey pulled her face up and kissed her, slowly letting his tongue feel hers
"Baby, you're going to have to take your pants off because I can't move," Stevie told him
Lindsey quickly sat up and pulled his pants off, then his t shirt, and laid back down
"That's better," Stevie smiled, giving him one last kiss before she scooted down and took him into her mouth
"Stevie no..." he tried to pull her head back
"What?" She looked at him strangely
"Not after what they've made you do..." he looked at her sadly
Stevie looked away ashamed and nodded
"Baby, it's not you, I just don't want you having bad memories whilst we me..."
"But its you...not someone who makes me feel like a whore."
"Okay...but take it as slow as you want alright? And don't forget, I love you so much!"
"I love you too," Stevie kissed him
Sliding back down his body slowly she took him into her mouth once more, making him groan loudly
Lindsey closed his eyes, tangling one hand in her hair, the other resting beneath his head
Stevie took it as slow as he did with her, moving her head up and down in a way that was driving Lindsey crazy
Lindsey's hips bucked involuntarily, him hitting the back of her throat
She choked a little automatically, but carried on
"Baby, this is the best," Lindsey groaned
He heard Stevie chuckle around him, adding her hand to join her mouth
"Shit..." Lindsey hissed
Lindsey had never had a girl turn him inside out like this
"Stevie I'm gonna..." he moaned out as she tightened her grip a little
Reaching up with her free hand, she held his tight, squeezing his hand to let him know it was alright
Lindsey blew, moaning loudly as he squeezed her hand
Stevie made sure to get every last drop from him, him squeezing his eyes shut the whole time
"You really know how to do that" he laughed
"Mmhm," Stevie kissed his cheek
Holding her tight against him, he loved on her neck in thanks
Stevie tilted her head to the side and giggled, "Lindsey," she gushed
"What?" He smiled and continued
"That tickles."
"Oh does it now?" He now moved fingers to her sides and tickled her
"Lindsey!" She tried to push him away
He continued to tickle her, making her cry with laughter
Stevie grabbed his hand and moved it to her stomach, "Feel."
"Oh my god, someone else is ticklish!" Lindsey felt as his child was practically doing somersaults inside Stevie's belly
"I think they like it when we get along!" Stevie gushed
"I think so too!" Lindsey had tears in his eyes as the baby continued to move
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah...this just amazes me..."
"Me too," she agreed, laying against him as they felt the baby move
"I've never really felt a baby move before" he admitted
"Not even with Jen and David?"
"No, she didn't really like me touching him"
"Why not?"
"Because he wasn't really supposed to happen, so she kind of ignored him"
"I thought that she was a good mother?"
"She died before she had a chance to be..."
"Then why did you love her?"
"Because...because she gave me my little boy" his voice cracked
Stevie kissed his cheek, "I'm sorry, Lindsey."
"It's okay...don't think bad of her, Steph"
"I'm trying."
"David wasn't planned at all, she had so much she wanted to do before she had children, she wasn't ready"
"She could have aborted."
"I wouldn't let her..." he looked away
"I'm glad you didn't."
"You wouldn't have you're little man!"he smiled
"I can't imagine that."
"Me either, I don't think he could survive without you now"
"And I don't think that Evie could survive without you either," Stevie replied
"I love her so much, words just can't describe..." he put his fist to his mouth
"I do too. I never thought about having children and now I have three."
"We do..." he smiled and held her closer
"Just three more to go!" He joked
"I don't think I'm going to make it that long," she rubbed her belly
"Hey! You said six kids misses!"
"Look how big I am!" She pouted
"This..." he scooted down and lifted her shirt "Is so beautiful and incredible!"
"Its miserable when you go up three bra cup sizes!"
"It's not for me" he wiggled his eyebrows and held both her breasts in his palms
"Careful, baby; they're tender."
He was very careful, and slowly lifted them up to give her some relief
Stevie sighed and closed her eyes, "Thank you for taking care of me. My whole body just aches."
"You are my most vital possession, I need to"
Stevie smiled and closed her eyes, "As you are mine."
"Really? I feel in tight competition with my son..."
"I think it's common sense that the kids will always come before us. But Evie, David, and this little one are the only ones that will ever come before you."
"Oh, shot through the heart!" He held his chest
Stevie giggled, "I like us when we aren't fighting."
"I don't mean to fight with you...I just love you too much" he admitted
"I love you too. I always will."
"I love our kids, but I also love time with just you" be told her
"I agree. I feel like we just need one day a week for ourselves."
"I think we need to do that!"
Stevie nodded and yawned. "I don't mean to be a party pooper but I am exhausted."
"Get some rest! I can't wait to make love to you again, and you are going to need all the strength you have!"
Stevie chuckled, "Make yourself at home."
"Oh I will, thank you"
Stevie quickly fell asleep, snoring softly in his ear
Lindsey wasn't tired, he just wanted to lay and listen to the soft sounds she made when she slept
He could hear her stomach growling every so often
"You talking to me buddy?" He whispered to her stomach
"Shut up, Linds. I'm just hungry," Stevie grumbled
"Well excuse me..." he held his hands up
Stevie nudged him in the stomach and fell back asleep
"God, mommy is moody isn't she" he whispered once more
Deciding on making her something to eat he carefully stood and looked through her fridge and cabinets, only finding a can of fruit
Looking at Stevie he knew she wouldn't be awake for a while, so he picked up her key and left to go to the store
He knew that her appetite was wild and he didn't know what she was craving so he just grabbed what he thought she may like
Walking back up the steps with three paper bags, he unlocked the door, only to come face to face with Stevie looking a complete mess
"Lindsey!" She threw herself into his arms and cried
"Baby, what's the matter?" He put the bags down and wrapped his arms around her
"I thought that you had left me!"
"Oh honey! I only went to go get food! I didn't think you'd wake up"
"I woke up and you were gone!"
"I'm sorry! I should of left a note..."
"I was terrified!"
"I'm not going anywhere Steph..."
"Thank you," she squeezed him
"Now let me make some food for you!"
"Lindsey, you didn't have to do all of this. I had food."
"You had a can of fruit" he looked at her with concern
"Exactly," Stevie replied
"That is not enough to feed my child and my fiancé!"
Stevie shrugged, "It was dinner tonight."
"Still not enough!" He said giving her belly a rub and placing the food on the side, removing what he was going to cook for her
"That looks amazing." She stared at the chicken
"When did you last eat something that wasn't from a can?"
"I don't remember."
"Well prepare to be stuffed tonight!"
"That sounds wonderful! Can we save some for Evie?"
"Of course honey, there will be plenty!"
Lindsey finished cooking and starved Stevie a plate full of chicken, vegetables, and some pasta
She sat on the mattress, smelling the food in front of her, "If you only knew how much I appreciated this, Lindsey...."
"I'm giving you food, it doesn't matter to me!"
"I know, but thank you!"
"You are very welcome!"
He watched Stevie eat the whole plate at top speed, he couldn't even begin to imagine how hungry she was
"This was so good!" Stevie patted her stomach
"I know, it looks like you've eaten a house!" Lindsey joked
"Gee, thanks!" She chuckled
"No problem! The kids will be back soon"
"Then we better change the sheets," Stevie said
"You wanna...you know...go for a role in the hay?" He winked and smirked at the same time
"Why do you always use these crazy phrases for having sex?" She laughed
"I think I'm getting the ones that you aren't getting" he laughed back
"Come here," Stevie said
Lindsey walked over to her cautiously, not sure if he'd made her mad
"Fuck me."
"Oh shit..."
"Before we have to get the kids."
"Okay! One second!" He ran over to his bags and pulled out a condom
Stevie closed her eyes, trying not to let it effect her."
"Steph?" He asked, seeing her face
"I'm fine."
"No you aren't...is it this?" He held up the packet
"Maybe."
"Steph, I don't know if he was clean..."
"I understand, I'm not mad."
"Do you want to not do it now? Have I ruined the moment?"
"No, come on."
Laying Stevie down he hovered over her
"Look at me..." he asked
She stared up into his eyes
"I'm sorry" he thought for a minuet before throwing the packet off to the side
"No, baby. I want you to feel safe."
"And I want you to feel comfortable more than that..." he replied
Stevie kissed his a lips, "I love you. You don't have to do this."
"I love you too..." he kissed her back, before opening her shirt
He noticed how the veins were protruding on her breasts and her nipples her significantly darker
"What happened here"
"I'm making a lot more milk now."
"I never saw you like this before"
"Like what?"
"Producing food for my child"
"Really?"
"Well we split up before Evie was born, and you wouldn't allow me to see her when she was a baby, so yeah..."
Stevie closed her eyes and sat up, "That was a bad time for all of us."
"Yeah, especially if you didn't know if you're daughter made it or not"
Tears spilled over her cheeks, "You have no clue how much I still hate myself for that."
"I spent two years wondering if she was alive, we had so many problems with her..."
"Stop it! Just stop it!" She screamed as she covered her ears
"I'm sorry, but you never asked how I felt"
"I didn't want to know!"
"Why not!"
Stevie held her stomach tightly, rocking back and forth
"Stevie why?
"I didn't want to relive that!"
"I just want to know why I couldn't see my daughter, I had a right" he begged
"I don't know!"
"Okay..."
Stevie stood up carefully, "I'm going to bathe," she sounded so lost
Lindsey didn't say anything, he just started tearing the sheets off the mattress, Stevie was in the bathroom and could hear him sobbing
She sighed, holding back her cries as she let herself slip under the water
About five minutes later she heard Lindsey's voice
"I'm going to fetch the kids" then the sound of the door
Stevie closed her eyes and dipped her head under the water...
She did owe Lindsey an explanation, but he was wrong, he didn't have a right, Evie isn't legally his
She regretted everything thing that she did in life
Lindsey returned with the kids a short while later, letting himself in and looking for Stevie
She still wasn't out of the tub
"Evie, go find mommy, she'll be happy to see you" Lindsey said whilst getting David out of the pushchair
Evie raced into the bathroom, "DADDY!" She screamed
Lindsey went running into the bathroom after his daughter
He saw Stevie kneeling on the floor, her head resting against the tub, "Lindsey, I need you to get Evie out of here!" She gritted, clearly in pain
"Why?! What's the matter?"
"Lindsey, please!"
"Evie, go play with David for a minuet" Evie did as she was told
"Stevie! What's going on?"
"I think I'm in labor, Lindsey! We don't have much time!"
"It's not time..." he panicked
"He doesn't seem to care! God, these contractions are on top of each other!"
"Oh shit..."
"Lindsey...your gonna have to do it" she gritted
"Do what?! Deliver the baby?!" He freaked
"I need you to calm down!"
"Stevie...I don't think that I can't do this."
"You're the only one that can!"
Stevie turned over and sat on the floor, opening her legs
"Shit," Lindsey whispered to himself
"My water hasn't broken!"
"So? What does that mean?"
"You're going to have to do it! It will help me out a lot with the pain!"
"No...I can't...I can't be in here...I need to go..." he tried to back away, a terrified look on his face
"Lindsey," she cried, "I need you!"
"The last person that I watched give birth to my child died...I can't watch it again" he cried
"Honey, please. We don't have time!" She cried
Carefully he got down on the floor
"How?"
"Baby, look at me, you have to find something sharpe," Stevie held his face
Running around the only thing he could find was a knitting needle
"Will this work?"
"It'll have to," she said, opening her legs wider, "I'm going to lay flat...please be careful."
"Oh my god...I can't put it up there..." he looked terrified
"Baby, either you do it or I do it."
Very carefully he inserted the needle, moving it round slightly until a gush of water covered his hands and legs
Stevie sighed in relief, feeling a good bit of pressure gone. "Good, baby." Stevie squeezed his hand, "Go check on the kids, I think I can get it from here. I just need a few things."
"Please don't die..." he said, tears streaming down his face
"I'll try." Stevie sat back up against the tub
Lindsey collected the things she needed, then went to check on the children
"Daddy?" Evie looked terrified as they both heard horrible noises coming from the bathroom
"Mommy is having the baby! Just try not to listen okay..." he soothed her
"Is she okay?"
"I'll go check on her..."
Lindsey walked into the bathroom to see what was going on
Stevie had started screaming bloody murder
"Baby are you okay?" He asked
Stevie couldn't answer, grabbing onto whatever she could grasp and pushing with all of her might, he could see her stomach muscles protruding
"Do you need help?" He felt helpless
She nodded, "Head..." was all that she could get out
He was about to ask what she meant when he saw the baby crowning
Lindsey kneeled down and was about to place his hand under the head to assist but he noticed something....it was the baby's butt
"Stevie..."
"Hmm?" She whimpered
"It's breech..."
"What?!" She cried, "Lindsey I can't do this by myself! Call an ambulance!" She screamed, in an immense amount of pain
"There isn't time...more of him is coming out"
Stevie was writhing around in pain, Lindsey afraid that the movement was going to hurt both of them
Placing his hands on the baby's bottom, he told Stevie to push
"I can't! I can't do this!" She looked absolutely terrified
"Stephanie, look at me! I will get him out safe, I promise!"
"Lindsey, just cut me open!"
"No! Are you fucking crazy?"
"It hurts!" She became irrational, trying to stand up
"Sit down!" He shouted and she complied "Now on the count of three, push"
"One...two...three," Lindsey counted
Stevie pushed as hard as she could, and Lindsey managed unfold the babies legs
"Pull him out!" She begged
"I'm trying!"
Stevie reached down and tried to do it herself
"Stop it! You are going to hurt you, or him!"
Stevie laid back and tried to push again, wanting the pain to stop, having Evie never hurt this bad
Finally Lindsey managed to pull the baby from her
"Why isn't he crying?" Stevie asked panicked
"Steph...." Lindsey cried, shaking his head
"What? Lindsey what?"
"Stephanie, h-he-" Lindsey couldn't get the words out
"What?" She shouted
"He's gone..."
"No! Don't you dare tell me that!" She cried
Lindsey nodded and held him against his chest
Stevie sat staring at Lindsey, shaking
"Stevie," Lindsey sobbed
"You killed him..." she said quietly
"W-what?"
"If you hadn't of started that argument earlier, I wouldn't of been so stressed and gone into labour early! If you hadn't left, you would of been with me when I first started...this is all your fault!"
Lindsey looked up at her, "I-I didn't think-"
"He's dead because of you! I hate you!" She cried
"Stevie, no..." he cried
"Get off my baby! I hate you! I hate you! Look what you caused!"
Lindsey handed the baby over to her
"I won't let that horrible man touch you ever again baby!" She held him to her chest
"Stevie," he shook his head
"GET OUT!"
"Stevie-the kids."
"Get away from them all!"
"I'm not leaving you!"
"This is all your fault!" She repeated again and again
Lindsey left the bathroom and called an ambulance, "Evie, stay out of the bathroom until the ambulance gets here." Lindsey told her and left
Eventually the ambulance arrived, going straight to Stevie in the bathroom
"Ma'am?"
"Is my...is my baby gone?"
"Can I take a look at him?" The older paramedic asked kindly, holding his arms out
Stevie handed him over and watched as they checked him out
One used a suction to clear his airway, "You have a beautiful baby boy! He's just having a little trouble! We'll get both of you to the hospital and all fixed up!"
"He's...he's not dead?"
"No! Of course not!"
"Oh my god..." Stevie cried with happiness
"Would you like us to call the father?"
"No," Stevie shook her head, "please just get us to the hospital."
Later that evening Stevie was resting in the hospital, her son was in a cot next to her, a couple of tubes helping him become stronger
"Would you just be able to help me fill some details in please honey?" A nurse with a clipboard came in
"Yes," Stevie nodded quietly
"Right, mothers last name?"
"Nicks."
"Baby boys last name?"
"Buckingham."
"Okay, fathers first and last name, I presume there's one to go on the birth certificate?" She questioned
"Lindsey Buckingham."
"I notice he isn't here, do you want us to contact him?"
"I don't know how"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know where he is..."
"Okay dear, that's fine, that's all the questions for now, you rest!"
"Thank you," Stevie moved onto her side, facing her little boy
"Hey buddy"
Stevie rubbed his cheek with her finger
"I thought you were a goner there for a second sweetheart, you frightened mommy to death"
Stevie kissed her fingers then placed them to his head
The evening had been very eventful to say the least
She left David and Evie with Anna
Lindsey wasn't anywhere to be seen
By the time the sun rose, Stevie was just getting to sleep.
Lindsey was going from bar to bar, getting drunker by the second, with the thoughts that he had killed his son
He honestly wanted to die, he truly did.
He didn't want to go on, knowing what he'd done, he couldn't live with that
Lindsey wandered into the street, not even paying attention
A car honked his horn hard as Lindsey stepped out blindly into the road
Lindsey didn't even flinch, letting the car hit him
Stevie was asleep in her hospital bed, when she suddenly shot up
"Something's wrong..." she said out loud
It was as if the baby could sense it too, letting out a cry
"Don't cry baby..." she rubbed his belly, knowing something was definitely wrong now
Stevie tried to calm her nerves, picking the baby up and trying to feed him
A nurse came in a second later
"Were going to have to delay your check up for a little while, there's been a nasty accident, they're going to wheel him past this way in a second, so we are advising all patients not to look, it isn't pretty apparently..."
Stevie nodded, her anxiety rising by the second as she heard a commotion coming up the hallway
She heard the wheels of the gurney, and looked away, she didn't know what it was, but something made her look back
She immediately recognized the mass of curly hair
"Lindsey!" She tried to get out of bed
"Ms. Nicks, please lay back down," the nurse eased her back
"No! That's his father!"
"Ma'am he's going in for surgery. We'll get this sorted when he returns."
Stevie was sobbing, what if he died? She blamed him for something horrible, and if he died thinking it to, she could never forgive herself
"Lindsey, I'm so sorry," she sobbed
The baby was just staring at Stevie, knowing that his mother was distressed, and somehow his daddy was sick
"It's okay," Stevie whimpered, rocking the baby
Stevie wanted to know what was happening, buzzing her nurse back in
"Yes, Ms. Nicks?"
"What happened to him?" She asked
"Car accident."
"I know that. But how?"
"He wasn't looking where he was going and stepped into the road."
Stevie covered her mouth with her hand, knowing it was all her fault
"As of right now he is in critical condition."
"I need to see him..."
"He's in surgery. You may see him tomorrow."
"I need him, he doesn't know he has another son"
"Tomorrow."
Stevie sighed and gave up, trying to get some sleep so she could see Lindsey
An hour later the baby awoke, needing to be fed
Stevie couldn't breast feed yet due to the tubes connected to him
"Mommy is going to get someone to help us," Stevie cooed, pressing the call button
The nurse came in and helped Stevie by pressing the food button on the baby's machine
"When will I be able to feed him?"
"When he's off the tubes honey"
"When will that be? My breasts hurt," Stevie said quietly
"We'll have a look in about a week, he's early don't forget"
Stevie nodded silently, "Will you check on Lindsey?"
"Of course!" She left and came back twenty minutes later
"He still isn't out of surgery, I'm afraid," the nurse said sympathetically
"Do you know how the surgery is going?"
"No, I'm sorry."
Stevie decided to go back to sleep once more, finally being woken the morning after
"Honey, he's out of surgery. He should be getting out of recovery any minute."
"Can I go see him?"
"I'll fetch a wheelchair."
"Thank you!" A wheelchair was brought and she was taken to Lindsey
"He's had major surgery, he will be very groggy and he may sleep the whole time," The nurse warned her
"I'm not bothered, I just need to see him"
The nurse nodded and pushed her into Lindsey's room, he was laying in the bed on a respirator. He looked deathly pale
"Baby..." she said tearfully
"We had to remove his spleen and repair some internal damage. He's lost a lot of blood."
"Will he be alright? Can I touch him?"
"He's not out of the woods, but yes you can touch him."
Slowly standing up, she hobbled over to him
She had never seen him look so fragile before, it scared her to see him this weak
"Our son is beautiful Linds"
"He looks so much like you! You'd be so proud!"
She took Lindsey's hand in her own, refusing to let go
"Ms. Nicks we need to get you back to your room. It's not good for you to be out like this."
"No! I need to stay with him" she laid next to him and refused to move
"What about your son?"
"Bring him please, he needs to meet his daddy"
"This room isn't equipped to meet his needs, I'm sorry."
"Please..." she started to cry
"I'm so sorry. He wouldn't survive if we brought him in here."
Stevie nodded and turned to Lindsey
"I'll bring squish to meet you when he's strong enough..." she leaned down and kissed him
The nurse gestured to the wheelchair
Stevie reluctantly sat in the chair and was pushed back to her room
The baby was being rocked to sleep by another nurse when she entered
"Is he alright?" Stevie asked worried
"Yes! He was just fussy. I think he's got an upset tummy. It's common in premies," the nurse whispered
Stevie swapped places and held her son, talking down to him about where she had just been
"Mommy made Daddy feel bad and he got hurt, but he's going to get better for us! We will get to see him soon!"
"He's going to love you so much! He's such a good daddy..." she cooed
The baby stared up at her, eyes wide in amazement as his mother spoke to him. Stevie chuckled, "You have no clue what I'm talking about, do you?"
The baby just kicked his leg
"I hope you don't mind, but I won't name you by myself"
"I'll just have to keep calling you baby, won't I?"
Stevie sat with him for hours, just bonding for a while, waiting for news on Lindsey
Around nine that night the nurse came in "Mr. Buckingham is starting to wake up. He's in a lot of pain though."
"Can I go back and see him?" She said excited
"Yes. He'll be in and out of consciousness for a while."
Stevie was once more wheeled to Lindsey's room, she didn't know how he was going to be with her
The tube was gone but he did have an oxygen mask on, "He's sleeping," the nurse told her
Sitting next to his bed she placed her hand on his chest, watching as his eyes flickered open
He looked over at her, tears forming in his eyes
"Hi, Lindsey..." she held his cheek
Lindsey sobbed, turning his head away from her
"Linds, I'm so sorry for what I said" she tried to turn his head back
"I killed him," Lindsey cried
"No Lindsey...I should never have said that"
Lindsey sobbed weakly, his strength quickly declining
"Ms Nicks, we need you to not stress him out" a nurse came in and said, hearing Lindsey's machines beep
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Stevie apologized, "Lindsey, I'm going to leave, but I'll be back soon to talk to you." She kissed his head
He didn't look back at her, she didn't want to just tell him about the baby, she wanted to show him, going outside and talking to the nurse
"Is there any possibility he can go in a wheelchair to see our son?" She asked
"Not right now. His body needs to rest. I know that you've waited a while to see him and I hate this for you."
"I need them to see each other, Lindsey thinks he killed our child, I need him to see him, please! I'm begging you..."
"I will see what I can do," the nurse's heart broke for her
"Thank you so much! I don't think he will want to recover if he doesn't see his son"
"There's no promises that I can get away with this."
"I will hold full responsibility!"
"They'll kick you out."
"I stand by what I said...he needs to see him, only if for five minutes"
"Okay..."
Stevie was told to go back to her room, and that Lindsey would be brought to her for a few minutes, quickly
Stevie held the baby in her arms as she sat in the bed. "We're going to meet Daddy!"
A few minuets later there was a knock at the door
"Come in," Stevie said
Lindsey was wheeled in, not looking at Stevie still
"Lindsey, look at me honey," she encouraged
Finally he looked at her and his mouth fell open
"Congratulations daddy" she smiled
"W-what?" Lindsey covered his mouth
"Say hello to your son..." she held him up
"But-he died."
"No he didn't...his breathing just wasn't good"
Lindsey had the nurse push him to the side of the bed, "What's his name?"
"I wanted to name him together" she told him
Lindsey nodded, slumping over some in his chair because of his incisions
"Can you think of a name you want?" Stevie asked before he got taken away again
"Andrew," Lindsey smiled softly, "but you name him whatever you want, baby."
"You want to hold Andrew for a second?" She smiled
"I don't think I can," Lindsey said sadly
"I'll help you" she got down from the bed and knelt down the best she could, placing Andrew in Lindsey's arms and holding him up
"Hi..."Lindsey said tearfully
Andrew automatically grabbed onto Lindsey's finger tight
"I'm your Daddy!"
The baby stared up at him, much like he did Stevie, but this time a small smile was playing on his lips
"Mr. Buckingham, Ms. Nicks; I'm sorry to break up this moment but Mr. Buckingham needs to lay down. He's just had major surgery." The nurse said softly
Lindsey brought Andrew up to his face and kissed his head
"Daddy will see you soon..."
"Bye Lindsey," Stevie kissed his lips
She could feel him kiss her back, and smiled
"I'll come see you later." She told him
He nodded, not taking his eyes from Andrew as he was wheeled from the room
Stevie laid Andrew back down in his cot and kissed his head, "Daddy is sweet, isn't he?"
She couldn't believe the look in his face when he'd seen a child that finally came from both of them
"Would you like to meet your brother and sister? Huh?"
Andrew just kept looking at her, she chuckled at how stupid she must sound
"How does tomorrow sound?"
She would call Anna and get her to bring the kids to her tomorrow, she also wanted Evie to see her father
"Let's get some sleep, okay?" Stevie rubbed his belly
Settling down she managed to sleep easier, knowing that Lindsey had finally met his son, and he didn't hate himself anymore
