Chapter 18
It had now been two weeks, and still no Lindsey, she hadn't heard from him for almost all that time.
Stevie sat by the window, she had gone into a deep depression, not even wanting to play with Evie for long periods of time.
"Tee, what can I do to help you?" Barbara asked her daughter, very concerned about her health
"Nothing, I'm going to lay down for a bit," Stevie said quietly, Barbara hadn't seen her eat anything in a week
"Honey you need to eat! It's important!" She placed her hand on her shoulder. "I'm fine, I'm not hungry."
"Did you tell him?" Stevie shook her head
"No, and I don't plan to. He hasn't called in two weeks, who should I tell him that I'm pregnant?"
"Stevie he's the father, he has a right to know"
"He only wanted a baby to keep me from leaving him."
"That's not true! You know he would love to know your carrying his baby" she tried to reason with Stevie
"I haven't decided if I'm going to keep this baby, Mom," She walked over to the bed and sat
"No! I never want to hear you say that ever!" Barbara scolded her. "Why not?!"
"Because this is your baby! Your's and Lindsey's! What if he finds out?"
"He wouldn't care."
"How can you say that? He's loved Evie hasn't he? And she isn't even his!" Stevie looked at her mom
"How do you know that?" Stevie asked
"I know more than you think, Stephanie."
"Mother, how do you know?!" Stevie stood
"Because, she looks like you, but she also looks like someone else, and it sure isn't Lindsey!"
"You're right, she isn't Lindsey's! She's an abusive rapist's daughter!"
"What...?" Barbara asked
"Nothing," Stevie looked away, focusing on tidying
"What do you mean rapist, Stevie?"
"I didn't want you to ever find out about this."
"Stephanie, what?" She said with tears in her eyes
"He raped me when I was seven months pregnant." Stevie whimpered, turning away from Barbara
"Oh my baby..." Barbara had to sit down quickly
"Mama," Stevie kneeled in front of her, "I didn't want you to find out."
"Where was Lindsey?"
"Unconscious...bleeding out on the floor."
"He tried everything he could to stop it..." she added
"Baby," Barbara wrapped her arms around Stevie, "I'm so sorry."
They stayed embraced with each other for a few minuets, when Stevie spoke again
"There's something else you should know"
"What is it?"
"You...you have a grandson, called David..."
"Where is he?"
"He's with Lindsey"
"Why? Why didn't he come with you?"
"Because I'm not his birth mother, and Lindsey wouldn't let me have him"
"What happened to his mother?"
"She died, bringing him into the world"
"Why wouldn't Lindsey let you take him?"
"He said he couldn't be without his son..." Stevie cried
"What happened between you and Lindsey?"
"He wanted me to stay here to be safe, and he told me that he lied about cheating a few years back, so I told him I hated him...I wasn't even going to let him say goodbye to Evie"
"I'm so confused about this whole situation to be honest, Tee."
"You don't need to know everything, but basically, he told me he wanted a baby because it could keep this guy away from me, because he wanted me back...and I thought it meant Lindsey didn't want a baby for love...so he thinks I despise him. Things went so well on the phone..."
"And you haven't heard from him in weeks?"
"No..." she shook her head
"At all?"
Once again she shook her head
"What if he's found someone new...?"
"I'm sure that's not the case. It's only been two weeks."
"You didn't hear our last conversation...there was so much love"
"I didn't, baby. I don't doubt you though."
"Why hasn't he come to me?" She sobbed into her hands
"I don't know baby. I wish I could make this better for you."
All of a sudden Evie came running in to the room
"Mommy! Mommy, daddy's here! Daddy's come for me!"
"What?" Stevie pulled Evie to her
"Daddy's pulling up outside..." Evie dragged Stevie to the window. Stevie picked Evie up and raced down the stairs, meeting Lindsey at his car as he pulled up
Slowly Lindsey got out, and paid the driver, it was just him...
"Linds...where's David?" Lindsey didn't answer
"Lindsey, where is he?!" She demanded
"I don't have him..."
"I see that! Where is he?!"
"They took him away..." he broke down on the drive way
"....what....?"
"Child services...they took him off me..."
"How did they find out?"
"I...ran out of formula, and I couldn't afford more...so I tried to steal some..." his words were almost inaudible
"Baby....we'll get him back! I promise!"
"He was crying! They wouldn't let me say goodbye...they just took him..."
Stevie wrapped her free arm around him and led him into the house. "We will figure this out."
"I should never have been a parent, I've failed both times..."
"You have not! Don't say that!"
"I have! I didn't see Evie for the first two years, David's been taken away! I don't deserve to be called a father..." he sobbed
"You do! It was my fault that that you didn't see Evie. They both adore you!"
"Steph...my boy..."
"I know, baby, I know," Stevie kissed him softly. He pulled her face back and put all his emotions into a kiss
"I'll give Evie to Mom and let's go up to my room and talk." Lindsey nodded and followed the instructions up to Stevie's room
Stevie gave Evie to her mom, and explained Lindsey would say hello when he'd calmed down. Going upstairs she joined him
"Hey," Stevie closed the door behind herself, "do you feel like talking?"
Lindsey shook his head and stared at her. Stevie sat down beside him, deciding that now wasn't the right time to tell him about the baby right then. He had just lost David, he didn't need anymore right now.
"What do you want to do?" She asked
"Just lay with me."
Stevie lay down next to him and he wrapped his arms around her, she scooted back until she was plastered to his front
"Did you drive all the way down here?"
"I flew part way"
"I'm so glad that you are here."
"I'm sorry I couldn't bring your boy..." They stayed in silence then, after a while Lindsey's hands began to wander
"Linds, what are you doing?"
"I need you, so bad," he said desperately, sucking her neck
"Is this wise right now?" She moaned. "Please, baby," he begged, she could hear him unzipping his pant and then felt his bare member against her back side
"You don't waste any time did you...?" She joked
"I've waited too long to have you," Lindsey panted in her ear, he lifted her leg and placed it on his hip. He licked his hand and rubbed her clit slowly, "Did you miss me?"
"So, so much! My hand just doesn't feel the same..."
"Oh God, baby," Lindsey grunted, licking his fingers he made sure she was wet enough before slipping into her
"Your so wet...have you been waiting for me?" He gave her short, hard thrusts
"God, yes baby," Stevie whimpered, trying to be quiet
Lindsey chuckled
"I've been waiting to hear these sounds from you for to long!"
Stevie reached back and gripped his curls, "I can't take it baby."
"Tell me what you want?" He bit her neck lightly, then soothed the mark with his tongue
"I want on top," she moaned
Lindsey rolled onto his back, and let her climb up, and straddle his waist
"Oh God," Stevie wailed, covering her mouth quickly
Lindsey grabbed onto her thighs tightly, helping her to bounce
She reached up and held onto the head board, "I don't think I am going to be able to hold on."
"Don't, let go, let me feel you..." he brought his thumb to rub at her clit
Stevie's held fell forward, "Oh God," she gritted, grunting as she tried to bounce faster
"Come" he simply said, and she suddenly fell over edge hard, him covering the scream with his own mouth, Stevie laid on top of him, trembling and shaking. He held her in his arms and rubbed her back to calm her down
Stevie sat back up and started to move again, attempting to finish him off. "Baby, you don't have to, it's fine..." he breathed
"You can't go unsatisfied," she panted, trying to work up a rhythm
"Stevie stop...you're too tired!" He tried to still her hips
"I can do it." She assured him. He kept still as he watched her try to finish him off
Stevie eventually rolled on her back, "You take over." Getting on top of her he thrust hard and deep, grunting
"I'll pull out don't worry...I won't get you pregnant..." he assured
"It's okay," she ran her hands up and down his chest
"No...it's not what you want, it's okay" he was close
"It's alright." He looked her in the eyes as he came, releasing and flooding her insides. Stevie held his hands as she helped him through his orgasm. It all hitting Lindsey at once as he began to cry
"What's wrong, baby?" She pulled him against her chest
"Everything..." he sobbed out
"I got you," she kissed his head, "we'll get everything sorted out." He nodded into her neck and stayed there until he'd finished crying
"Are you hungry?"
"I haven't eaten for almost two weeks"
"Lindsey!" She scolded, "stay right here." Stevie threw on a robe and headed down to the kitchen, she made him a large tray of whatever she could find and a cup of hot tea. Carefully walking back up the stairs she went back into her room
"I've just thrown anything and everything on here for you" she smiled and placed the tray on the bed beside him
"You didn't have to do that," Lindsey smiled, sitting up in bed and pulling the tray into his lap
"You haven't eaten for two weeks!" She said as she sat on the bed
Lindsey looked down quietly, "Thank you."
"When did they take our boy?" She asked playing with his curls
"A few days after you left."
"Why didn't you call me?"
"I didn't want you to worry."
"Lindsey, he's my son!"
"I know, but I didn't want you to stress out over something that you couldn't control."
"No, but I could of been there for you!" She told him
"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you."
"Me too, baby, I don't like secrets"
"I'm sorry." An awkward silence filled the space between them. "Don't be shy with me Lindsey..."Stevie said nervously
"Sorry," he finally looked up at her, grabbing her small hand in his
"I love you Lindsey"
"I love you too, baby. I really do," kissing her hand
"I've decided that I won't push you on the baby thing either...I'll go to the shop to pick up some protection" he smiled.
"I didn't think that now was a good time to say something, but I don't think we necessarily need protection anymore," she smiled softly
"Why? Maybe you were right and it wasn't a good idea for us to have a baby..."
"You don't want a baby?"
"After all that's happened, I just feel like it's not the best thing for us right now"
"Oh-well in that case, it might be a good idea to go get some protection."
"Yeah I will do..."
Stevie kissed his cheek, "I'm going to see if Mom needs help with Evie."
"Okay baby!"
Stevie walked from the room and to her mother. Barbara saw that Stevie was extremely emotional as she walking to the living room
"Tee? What's wrong?" Stevie shook her head and broke down
"What's he said?" Barbara asked, angry at Lindsey
"I didn't tell him about the baby-I was about to but he said that now wasn't a good time to have one," she sobbed, wrapping herself around her mother
"Oh baby! I'm sure he wouldn't say that if he knew sweetheart!"
"It doesn't matter! He doesn't want a baby!"
"So what are you going to do?" Barbara asked scared
"What I was going to do in the first place."
"Teedee, you can't get rid of them..."
"What else am I supposed to do? I can't live without Lindsey!"
"Then you need to tell him"
"Right now?"
"Right now!" She repeated. Stevie hesitantly walked upstairs and knocked on the door
"Yeah?" Lindsey spoke from the other side. Stevie walked in, "We really need to talk."
"Right now? I'm tired" he said
"Lindsey I'm pregnant..."
"What?" He sat up on his elbows, not sure if he had heard her correctly. Stevie walked over to him and sat next to him, placing his hand on her stomach, "You're going to be a father."
"Are you joking?" He asked shocked
"No, I'm not joking," she shook her head
"Oh, god" Lindsey laid back with his arm over his face
"I've already made up my mind... I'm not keeping it."
"So why are you telling me about them?" He looked at her
"Mom said that I should...since you're the father."
"Wow..." he blew air out
"Yeah..." Stevie laid on her back beside him
"Why did you say I was going to be a father if your getting rid of them?" Lindsey asked
"I don't know," she shrugged, "I guess I was going to keep them if you wanted to be a father. But you obviously don't, so that's that..." Stevie went to get up, Lindsey pulled her back down beside him and held her against him, "I just don't think it's a great time." Stevie started to cry softly
"What's the matter?" Lindsey looked down at her
"I don't know, I guess we were just so excited trying to make her, now we have, she has to go"
"You're already attached, aren't you?"
"Yeah, but it's okay, I'll choose you over anything, anyway"
Lindsey rubbed his brow, "I'm not making you do this."
"What?" She asked confused
"I'm not saying that you have to get rid of it."
"You said it isn't the right time, I can't just keep them in there till it is"
"I know, but if you want the baby then you have it. I don't particularly want another baby right now, but I'm not going to make you terminate."
"This makes it difficult..." she cried
"Why?"
"Because you don't want them, so how am I supposed to keep them knowing that?"
"I would learn to love them. I wouldn't just leave you."
"I need you to love them like you did Evie from the start, I can't do it otherwise" she told him honestly
"I can't do that, Id feel like I was betraying David."
"Then I'm going to schedule the termination"
Lindsey nodded quietly, "I'll take you." She was hoping he would try to convince her not to, but he didn't. Lindsey wrapped his arms around her and fell asleep, the baby not even seeming to bother him.
Stevie lay away, until Evie walked in and ran over to her mother. "Mommy?" She whispered, "can I sleep in here?"
"Of course baby, you sleep with daddy, I'm going to go speak to grandma..." she lifted Evie onto the bed and watched her snuggle to Lindsey. "I miss Daddy," she said quietly, wrapping her tiny arm over him
"I do to baby!"
"Mommy, when's the baby going to come so I can play?"
"A long time from now, baby." Stevie kissed her head and left to go talk to Barbara.
"How did it go?" Barbara asked when she walked in
Stevie shook her head sadly and sat down at the kitchen table, "He's taking me tomorrow."
"I'm sorry Tee!"
She shrugged quietly, "I think it's for the best."
"No you don't, don't lie to me"
"I have to do this to keep my family together."
"How can he ask you to do this?" Barbara was baffled
"He says it's not a good time."
"That's Bullshit! No time is ever a good time for a child"
"I don't want to make him angry."
"I don't care! Do you, or do you not want this baby?"
"Yes."
"Do you love them?" She asked
"I don't know."
"And why don't you know?" Barbara asked another question
"Mother! This situation is complicated! I don't know!"
"Yes you do! Other wise you wouldn't be so angry!"
"Fine! I love them but I can't get attached!"
"Yes you can!"
"I can't lose Lindsey!" Stevie cried
"Sweetheart, come here..." Barbara wrapped her arms around Stevie and kissed the top of her head. "What am I going to do?" She hiccuped
"You think he'll come around?" She asked her daughter. "No, I've never seen him so indifferent about anything before."
"Have you tried just making him touch them? And talking to him while he is?"
"Only when I told him that I was pregnant. He didn't seem very phased."
"Try again for longer! Maybe he can get a connection going..." Barbara suggested
Stevie sighed, "I just want something to eat and a nap. I'm exhausted." She rubbed her eyes. "I'll make you some soup, then you go nap okay?" Stevie nodded
Barbara made sure that Stevie wasn't looking before she made her way up to Lindsey's room, knocking on the door. "Come in..." he called groggily.
"Lindsey, we need to talk," Barbara sat on the edge of the bed
"What about?" He asked
"Lindsey, we need to talk," Barbara sat on the edge of the bed
"Your baby that my daughter is carrying."
"Evie, go find grandpa sweetie..." Lindsey told his daughter and kissed her head, her going right away
"Barb..."
"No, just listen. She wants that baby but she doesn't want you to leave her! She is willing to have an abortion for you."
"I've told her, I wouldn't leave her, but it's not what we need right now as a couple, I can't love that baby..."
"Yes you can! You know that you can! Stevie is willing to do this for you but you can't love a baby that is yours?"
"I can't! I'd be betraying my son!" He told her
"I know my daughter! She will move heaven and earth to make sure that you get him back!"
"What can she do Barbara? She isn't his mother!"
Barbara was shocked at his words, "You don't deserve my daughter, Evie, or the baby she is carrying. You want your son? Or do you want something to mope around about?"
"Excuse me?" He asked
"Man up or get out."
"Fine!" Lindsey got up from the bed and slipped his shoes on
"You'll regret this."
"You are the one that told me to get out!" He slipped his jacket on, Stevie running up the stairs at the arguing
"Lindsey? What's going on? Mother?"
"Lindsey's going..." Barbara told her
"What?! Why?!"
"She told me to man up or get out" Lindsey said
"So you can't man up?"
"I'm struggling here!"
"I know you are!"
"It's best if I go if I'm not welcome" Lindsey did his jacket up
"Baby, please!" Stevie grabbed his arm, "Don't leave me!"
"I don't deserve you, or Evie, or my son, your mom made that very clear!"
"Lindsey, you have to take me to my appointment tomorrow! I can't do this without you!"
"Your strong Stephanie! I'm not! You'll be fine"
"Baby..." Stevie begged
"What...?"
"Please don't go."
"Why?" He asked taking her hands from him
"I love you! I want to be with you!"
"You shouldn't! I'm not good at being loved"
"I can't keep you here, can I?"
Stevie remembered what Barbara had told her earlier, she grabbed Lindsey's hand and placed it firmly on her stomach
"This is us! A piece of me, and a piece of you! Two halves to make a perfect whole!" Tears streamed down her face
"Steph, I can't..." he looked away, trying to pull his hand away but Stevie kept it there firmly
"Why can't you? Why can't you'd fight for all of us?!"
"I can't!" He repeated
"You can! We made this! Out of pure love we made a tiny human"
"I know that we did! I know! I can't do this to David! He's my main priority!"
"David is our son! He's part of our family, we should all be priority..."
"You're not anything to him legally."
"How can you say that to me? After everything I've done for him!"
"I don't know what you want me to say."
"That I'm a good mother to him..."
"You know that you are!"
"I need to hear it! I don't feel it" she sobbed
"You are a good mother!"
"Is he my son?" She asked
"Legally, no. In my heart, yes."
"Oh Lindsey..." she broke down "I have to go Stevie. I can't be who you need me to be."
"Lindsey! Don't you dare leave me!" She screamed
"I can't be the father you need for your kids."
"You already are! Evie worships you!"
"Stevie, I need time."
"I need you here with me! We can do this together!"She begged
"I have to go home and fight for my son. You have to stay here and hide from Jimmy."
"Lindsey please...I'm begging you, don't leave me..."
"I have to. I have to get David back and then better myself for you....when I come back we can have a baby."
"I want this baby..." she said, tears crazy
"Then keep it."
"Will you be here?" She asked nervously
"I don't know..." he shook his head
"Why won't you let me help? What if you find someone new..." she looked up at him with worried eyes
"I won't find anyone that could replace you. I have to do this alone."
"You don't have to always be so strong you know, you can lean on me..."
"I can handle it myself."
"Fine" she sighed and pulled away
"I'll be back for you," Lindsey kissed her forehead
"Can't we have just one more night?" She asked sadly
"Yes...I'll still take you to your appointment tomorrow and then I'll leave that night."
Stevie nodded and wrapped her arms back around him
