Flaws Of FanFiction
VOLUME ONE
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE ANIME FANFIC! But, sometimes these things just... Annoy me. Hopefully you can relate.
[These are just my opinions! If you have something wrong with them, just message me (:]
1. YOU ARE THIS, NOT THAT (imagines)
One thing, is lots of writers will label it as an imagine, though they'll give the character a name, and a look. For example:
•
{"___x reader" "You're name is Cathy and you have blonde hair and green eyes. Your best friend is Linda and you are British."}
•
- I mean, it's okay to do things like make the reader-chan live somewhere else, but giving the reader a name that probably isn't theirs, (unless their name is Cathy) kind of down sizes the title "imagines". Don't you think?
2. QUOTE LE QUOTE (retell anime)
Okay, this probably doesn't bother you at all, but I can't read retellings of the anime, just with you in it. It's bland, unless there's major changes. This can go for Imagines, and just OC X character kind of thing. I'm not saying it's boring and bad to have fanfictions like that, I'm saying it's just not as creative! (No DHMIS pun intended). Anyways, for example:
•
{They'll quote the same exact lines from the anime, but with you in it} {They'll make sure it's exactly like the anime, and fit every little thing in the plot. That is actually difficult to do, and I respect the writers who take the time in doing that. It's just not interesting to me}
•
I hope you understand my point, like WHY IS IT JUST REPEATING ITSELF! Literally krill me. I think it's actually pretty good, if major changes in the story were developed. It's fine to write in the same time zone etc, doesn't have to be an AU. But, taking the same exactly quotes is okay, as long as it's not a repetition.
3. THE OC CHAOS (Mary sue OCs)
If you don't know what Mary Sue is, It's pretty much cliche. That's right, one of the very basic flaws of writing. Cliché. Now, I have nothing against OCs (Own Character), But when it comes to something like, 'You're the rebel girl, with one blue strip in your Raven hair, and you're always the one who's up for it' OKAY THATS NOT BAD! It's just, sometimes OCs can become too... INVINCIBLE. Like they have no weakness. It's always good to kind of give the OC weaknesses to overcome throughout the storyline. Some writers go for that classic girl:
•
{"she's a bit weird, and she is always isolated. She's a nerd. She always sits alone"}
•
NOW THIS IS BAD OKAY?! Its just repetitive, and always used. Have you seen all of the same characters like that? The books are quality, but sometimes the ideas are parallel to the next book over.
4. THATS NOT HIM?! (OOC= Out Of Character)
Now, I've done this too, I think we've all done this at least once. We immediately have this QUALITY idea for an imagine, or OC, anime influenced plot, etc. And we rush, by making that totally not obvious character the main character will fall for, fall for her after one chapter. That's okay! As long as it's following the guidelines of that character if it's in an actual anime. It's always best to develop their personality throughout the book. Of course, it can't be perfect!
5. CLICHE TACTICS (YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN)
As I said with all the other reasons Flaws of fanfictions. I'm going to keep this short. Cliches... They're everywhere. We all make them. Of course, every book has its flaw. But it's not interesting if every single fanfic is about this one girl who is a nerd, meets the beautiful Light YAGAMI.
Xoxo,
