"DRAGON ATTACK!" I heard someone yell outside.

Dad grabbed an axe, and ran outside. Mom looked at me, and stroked my hair.

"Stay here sweetie." She said, running outside as well.

I looked after them, wanting to fight with them. Though, I knew a five year old probably couldn't do much.

Suddenly the house shook as I saw a fireball hit right outside the house. I spend a moment staring out the window, till another one hits even closer.

I screamed, and ran outside. I saw more fire, and dragons then I could ever imagine. I turned to go back in, but I saw a dragon blocking the door. He stared at me, and I backed away. He opened his mouth to blow fire at me, but I ran away before he could.

I ran, searching for mom and dad. I bumped into someone, and fell to he floor.

"Cynthia!" The voice yelled.

I looked to see hiccup. I was relieved to see a familiar face. I wasn't alone anymore.

"Hiccup!" I said back.

He got up, and helped me up.

"Are you ok?" He asked, helping me dust myself off.

"I'm fine. Have you seen momma or daddy?" I asked, looking around.

"Not tonight." He said.

"Well, can you help me get back home?" I asked.

He nodded, and grabbed my hand. He lead me back to my house, and I saw my parents fighting a dragon right outside the door.

My eyes widened, "momma! Daddy!" I screamed.

I covered my mouth, knowing I shouldn't have said that.

My parents looked my way, and I saw the dragon open it's mouth, fire appearing in it.

"No!" I yelled.

All I heard were pained screams, and the dragons roars.

As the smoke cleared, I fell to my knees.

"No. Momma....daddy..." I sobbed.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I looked up to see hiccup standing there, looking at me sadly.

I threw my arms around his neck, and cried into his shoulder. He hugged back, and rubbed my back.

"It's all my fault."

"It's all my fault."

"It's all my fault."

---------------------------------

I shot up screaming.

"IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" I yelled.

I looked around, shaking, taking in my surroundings. I realized what happened and tears weld In my eyes. I fell on my bed, sobbing.

"Hey, uh, Cynthia? You in here?" A voice asked outside my door.

I sat up, wiping my eyes as I did. I got off my bed, and walked over to the door, unable to stop the tears from streaming down my face.

I opened it, and saw hiccup standing there.

"Oh there you are. Why are you here? When did you leave the-are you crying?" He asked.

I just ignored his questions, and walked away, "maybe. Why?"

"What happened?" He asked, following me.

I sat on my bed, and he sat next to me.

"Why do you care?" I asked.

"Cause your my best friend." He said, looking at me with a surprised face.

I rolled my eyes, "that doesn't mean you have to pretend to care."

"I'm not pretending, I really do wanna know. Was it something I did?" He asked.

I just turned my body so that I was facing the other direction.

"Cynthia If something happened, you can tell me." He said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"No. This time, I can't." I said, looking at my lap.

"What do you mean? Of course you can. You can tell me anything, even if it's-"

"Hiccup!" I yelled, interrupting him.

He stopped talking, "what?"

"I can't tell you this ok? Just accept it. Now id like to be alone." I told him.

"Cynthia....if you-"

"Just go!" I yelled, my voice cracking.

He sighed, and his hand slowly dropped off my shoulder. I shut my eyes tightly as I heard him get up, and walk away.

"I'll see you at the arena?" He asked.

I didnt answer him.Tears streamed down my face as I tried to keep what I can in.

He sighed, and I heard the door shut. I opened my eyes to see my house empty again.

More tears fell down my cheeks, and I let out a sob.

"I'm sorry hiccup."

I fell on my bed, sobbing.

Hiccups POV

It was time for my test, and I was waiting by the gate. I looked around, hoping Cynthia would show up.

I couldn't get what happened earlier out of my head.

What had happened to her? She's never not told me what was wrong before. I'm her best friend, she tells me everything.

"Be careful with that dragon." A voice said behind me.

I turned around, hoping to see Cynthia. Instead I saw Astrid. I was a little disappointed, but didn't let it show.

"Oh trust me. It's not the dragon I'm worrying about." I said honestly.

"What are you going to do?" She asked.

"Put a stop to this. I have to try." I said.

I took a deep breath, and turned back to her.

"Astrid, if something goes wrong out there, make sure they don't find toothless or skymist." I said, hoping nothing would go wrong.

"I will." She said.

I sighed, "and...tell Cynthia I'm sorry."

She looked a little surprised, but nodded.

"Just, promise me nothing will go wrong." She said.

I opened my mouth to tell her I couldn't, when Gobber came up to us.

"It's time hiccup. Knock em dead." He said.

I looked at the helmet dad gave me, before placing it on my head. I walked out into the open, and the cheering increased.

I looked around the crowd, and frowned, not seeing the face I wanted to see.

"Looks like she's not going to show up." I muttered.

I walked over to the weapon stand, and grabbed a dagger. I grabbed a shield, and took a deep breath.

"I'm ready." I said.

The bar holding the gate closed was slowly lifted, beginning the longest 5 seconds of my life.

The door burst opened, and out came a monstrous nightmare. I stared at it, fear building up in me, telling me to run, but I stood my ground.

The dangerous dragon suddenly laid his eyes on me, and slowly crept towards me.

I dropped the dagger and shield, and backed away as the dragon crept closer to me.

"What is he doing?" I overheard dad say.

The dragon growled, and I smiled.

"It's ok, it's ok." I soothed.

The dragons eyes averted to my helmet. I looked at it, and gently took it off my head.

I cast one look at the crowd, "I'm not one of them."

I threw the helmet onto the ground. Gasps from the crowd were very audible.

"Stop the fight." Dad ordered.

"No! I need you all to see this!" I said.

I reached my hand out like I did with toothless, and the dragon concentrated on it.

"They're not what we think they are. We don't have to kill them." I tried explaining.

"I SAID STOP THE FIGHT!" Dads voice raged, as he slammed his hammer against the rail.

The dragons eyes turned back into terrified slits, and he snapped his jaw at my hand.

"Whoa!" I yelped, staggering back.

I jumped out of the way just in time to avoid getting burned to a crisp.

"Whoooooooaaaaaa!" I yelled running away.

Cynthia's POV

I was packing what little things I had into a bundle of cloth.

"What am I doing?" I asked myself.

I knew I shouldn't run away, for hiccups sake, but I couldn't stop myself.

I finished packing, and tied the cloth together. I picked it up, and walked to my door.

I looked around my house one final time, before opening my door. The town was empty because they are all at hiccups competition.

I walked to the edge of the island looking at the sky.

"I really need you right now mom, dad. I don't know what to do." I looked towards the woods, "goodbye hiccup."

I was about to run off into the woods, when I heard a loud yell. I looked towards the arena, and realized that's where the yell had come from.

My eyes widened. I dropped the bundle, and ran for the arena.

I reached the lock gate, and stared at the scene. Hiccup was being chased by the monstrous nightmare.

I looked to my left to see Astrid running away.

I glared after her but a roar brought me back to the current situation. I grabbed an axe off the wall, and used it to lift the gate a bit.

It was a tight squeeze, but since I was skinnier then hiccup I could squeeze through.

Once I was in, I realized just how bad the situation was.

"Hiccup!" I cried.

I grabbed a shield from the broken weapon stand, and hurled it at the dragon.

It hit him on the head, and it turned it's attention to me. It growled and shot after me.

I gasped, and ran away from it.

"Cynthia!" I heard hiccup yell.

I barely avoided the dragons fiery breath, and yelped as I felt hot liquid running down my hand.

"This way!" I heard stoic yell.

Hiccup and I ran towards the now opened gate.

A fireball blocked us from leaving, and we hurried the other way.

The dragon whipped it's tail, making me trip. I yelped as the dragon enclosed it's claw around me, acting as a small cage.

"Cynthia!" I heard hiccup yell.

He ran towards me, and my eyes widened.

"Hiccup! No!" I yelled.

He didn't listen, and ended up in the same position I was in.

"No! It can't end like this! I have to tell you something!" I yelled at hiccup.

"We'll tell me now!" He yelled back.

I took a short deep breath, "I lo-"

A screech that seemed to grow in pitch interrupted me.

My eyes widened as I realized what it was.

I heard two fireballs get shot, and smoke surrounded us.

The claw around me left, and I sat up.

I coughed, holding my injured hand.

"Cynthia!" I heard hiccup yell.

He appeared beside me, and I looked at him. He had worry clear in his eyes.

"Are you ok? Are you hurt?" He asked.

I let out another cough, and hissed as my hand moved.

He looked down at it, and grabbed it, "your hand." He said.

"Night fury." I heard Gobber say.

Hiccup and I looked at each other in horror. He helped me up, and ran out of the smoke. We saw our dragons fighting the monstrous nightmare away.

The nightmare slithered away reluctantly, and our dragons walked over to us.

Skymist licked my face, and I smiled at her.

"Skymist you have to go. It's not safe here." I Said, gently pushing on her snout.

The Vikings that were watching the test jumped in, and ran at our dragons. Stoic grabbed an axe, and ran towards us.

"No! Dad they won't hurt you!" Hiccup yelled.

"stoic please listen to us!" I begged.

He still charged at them, yelling a battle cry.

The dragons thought that he was gonna hurt us, so they went crazy. They pinned him to the ground, and for once stoic actually looked scared.

"Toothless stop!" Hiccup yelled.

"No! Skymist!" I yelled.

The dragons opened their mouths, and fire lit in them.

"NO!" I yelled.

The dragons swallowed their gas, and looked at us with a look that just screamed, 'I'm sorry.'

Everything would've been fine if a few Vikings hadn't hit the dragons in the face.

In a few minutes the Vikings had the dragons pinned down.

"No! Please don't hurt them!" I yelled.

Hiccup held me back, and I struggled against him.

"Put em with the others." Stoic said.

I felt him grab me by my arm, and hiccup by his, and drag us away.
