Chapter 2
Zoey's Point Of View
Beep Beep Beep
Was all I could hear, it was repetitive and droned on through my mind.
Then the realisation hit me, I jumped into the water, and a boy saved me. Who was it though?
That sound is familiar, but different... only in the pattern though.
It is the sound of a heart monitor, in the hospital. I can remember it from my mothers deathbed.
Wiggling my fingers around, hearing a gasp.
Then a hand held my hand, my fingers explored around and I realised it was my fathers hand. Because of that distinctive pulsing vein on the palm of his hand.
I open my eyes, using my left arm to adjust to the light.
"Zo, your awake. I was so worried." He said, his eyes are slightly red and puffy.
More than like, from the impact of crying.
"I'm awake." I say, sounding croakier than I thought.
"How could you do that to me? You know how I felt when your brother jumped off of that same cliff." Father said, to me I not so simply gulped a lump staying there for a minutes.
"To pay my respects." I tell him, he rests his arms onto my bed and puts his head in his hands.
"I can't lose you, you're all I've got." He said, looking up from his hands.
"You are all I've got as well." I reply, blankly.
Then a nurse walks in, an extremely stick thin figure.
"Zoey Earl, you have a slight concussion from your head hitting the rock at the bottom of the water I presume, also other than that you are fine. I'll prescribe you to some ibuprofen which you can collect from your pharmacy as I discharge you." The nurse spoke, not even introducing herself.
"Excuse me?" I speak out, making her turn around looking at me funnily.
"Yes?" She asks, wanting to get away.
"Who was that man? The one that got me out of the water?" I asked her, she slightly smiled.
"Conor Maynard." She said, quickly marching out of the room.
Conor Maynard, funnily I've heard that name before.
School?
Nope.
Neighbours?
Nope.
I know I've heard his name before, but I don't know where or how.
"Zoey, here is your clothes. Clean clothes." He said, handing me a full outfit and leaving the room, just then I realised I was wearing a hospital gown but why?
Then I slipped on my underwear, throwing my light grey long sleeved top on and black skinny jeans on, sliding my white ankle socks on, and pulling my black converse on.
Sadly, I don't have a hairbrush for my frizzy overgrown hair.
I walk out of the door, with my prescription sheet and see my dad.
Then my hand was slightly grabbed, I turned around slightly recognising the face.
"Hello, I'm Conor. The one who got you out of the water, I'd like to get to know you at the Costa nearest the primary school?" He asked, more like demanded I just nodded with a smile.
Boy attention, something that doesn't exist for me.
