26. Lecture
"Josh!"
The brunette was at his locker, grabbing his books before first period when he heard Dallon yell his name, running down the hallway.
"What?" Josh laughed when his friend caught up with him, panting a bit.
"Brendon asked me out on a date yesterday!"
"Really?"
"Yes!" Dallon responded happily. "I've been waiting for this moment for three years," he gushed.
"I'm assuming you said yes?" Josh raised an eyebrow as he grabbed his english text book and shut his locker.
"Oh I said no," Dallon responded.
"What? Why?"
"I'm kidding!" the taller boy laughed as they began walking to their class together.
"Where're you going?"
"Where's who going?" a voice piped up, making Josh smile.
"Dallon was telling me about how Brendon asked him out yesterday."
"Way to go man!" Tyler gave Dallon a high five. "You've had a crush on him for the longest time."
"How do you know?"
"Oh it's been painfully obvious since sophomore year when accidentally ran into you in the hallway."
"I remember that!" another voice chimed in. Josh saw Dallon's face become as red as a tomato and he laughed. "Aw, its cute when you blush, Dally," Brendon cooed.
"Stop it or he's not gonna go out with you," Tyler laughed as well.
"I hate you guys," Dallon mumbled as he opened the door to Mr. Way's room. He saw Brendon start to head to his usual seat before speaking up. "Hey, come sit by us."
"You sure?"
"Yeah," Tyler nodded in agreement. "You can take Josh's seat and he can sit by me," he smiled.
"Alright," Josh complied, taking the seat next to Tyler and leaning his bag against the desk.
A few minutes passed and all four of them made conversation, a lot of the time laughing. They were interrupted when a girl walked up to Josh, looking nervous.
"Can we help you?" Tyler raised an eyebrow.
"U-uh," she stuttered. "That's my seat."
"Does it have your name-"
"Is it alright it I sit here today?" Josh asked. "My friend wants me to."
"Of course it's alright I said-"
"Tyler..." Josh said, drawing out his name. "Just for today? You can have it back tomorrow I promise."
"Y-yeah, that's alright," she nodded before scanning the room. Her eyes landed on Brendon's empty seat and she quickly went over and sat down in it as soon as the bell rang.
Just like every other day, Mr. Way walked in. Unlike every other day, he was joined by Mr. Iero. "Good morning guys," Mr. Way smiled at his students. There were mumbled 'good mornings' and a few groans in return. "Instead of starting class right away, Mr. Iero has a quick announcement."
"Thank you, Ge- Mr. Way," Mr. Iero took over as his colleague went and sat behind his desk. "I'm going around to all the classrooms today so it's not just you guys getting lectured, but you're first. How lucky," he smiled. "Basically, the other day our janitor was cleaning up after school, as he usually does, and he noticed a bag of something."
"Was it candy?" Brendon yelled excitedly.
"No, Brendon," Mr. Iero chuckled slightly. "It was weed."
The class erupted into chatter before being shushed by Mr. Way. "Let Mr. Iero finish," everyone quieted down.
"Not only is weed prohibited on school grounds, it's also illegal in the state of Ohio. Many of you are eighteen and that would mean getting in serious trouble with the police," he paused to take a breath. "Most schools would just call the police dogs in the investigate the school, but I'm giving you guys a warning. If anyone is caught skipping class, or just looks high for that matter, you'll be brought into my office and questioned. Kapeesh?"
"Kaposh," the class replied, making Mr. Iero smile.
"Great. Have a good day," he dismissed before walking out.
Once he left, Tyler, Josh, Brendon, and Dallon all glanced at each other.
---
"How was your guys' day yesterday?" Hayley asked as they are lunch.
Brendon and Dallon shared a look. "Good," Brendon spoke with a smile.
"You guys?" she asked, pointing to Tyler and Josh.
"Good," Tyler mumbled, stabbing his mashed potatoes with his fork.
"What about you?" Josh asked.
"Great, actually. I took Brendon's advice and went to the college to take an art class and met this really hot girl there."
"What's her name?" Dallon asked, joining in.
"Ashley."
Josh almost choked on the water he was drinking.
"Like pink hair Ashley?"
"Mhm, do you know her?"
"She lives down street from me and babysits Patrick sometimes."
"Well, she's hot and we exchanged numbers," Hayley smiled.
"Cute," Brendon suddenly gasped. "Oh my God, did Mr. Iero come to your class and–"
"Ask about the weed?" she finished. "Yeah..."
"What? Why did you just drag out your answer?" Dallon asked.
"Cause I think it might have been mine," she mumbled quietly.
"Hayley!" Brendon groaned. "You're gonna get Tyler and I in trouble."
"Oh, no. I'm not getting in trouble," Tyler laughed. "I stopped smoking weed."
"What?" Brendon's eyes practically popped out of his head.
"Yeah, I'm helping him quit," Josh contributed to the conversation.
"Aw," Hayley gushed. "That's cute."
"No it's not," Tyler rolled his eyes.
"Wait," Brendon said. "Are you still gonna bring us weed?"
"Dude, he's gonna get caught," Dallon interjected.
"He hasn't before," Hayley replaced. "He won't now."
"You two better not get him in trouble," Tyler told them.
"We won't get your boyfriend caught, we promise," she joked.
"He's not my boyfriend!" Tyler said a bit loudly. A few heads turned to look at him and he cussed under his breath before throwing his plastic fork down and getting up.
"Tyler, wait!" Hayley called but he kept walking out of the cafeteria. "I'll go talk to him," she dismissed herself and ran after him, her shoes making noise on the floor as she did so.
"What was that about?" Dallon asked curiously.
"I have no idea. In the whole time we've been friends he's never acted like this," Brendon shrugged. He turned to Josh as if asking if he knew what was wrong.
"I'm as confused as you are," he said. It was silent for a minute before Josh spoke up. "That was weird."
"What?"
"When he said that this strange feeling rippled through my chest. It was like someone punched me."
"Josh?"
"What?" the boy looked up to see Brendon smiling sadly.
"I think that's heartbreak."
"What? No it's not," Josh declined, confused.
"You must like Tyler," Dallon informed. "Or else you wouldn't have felt that when he said that."
"That's ridiculous."
"How do you feel when you're around him?"
"Well," Josh took a deep breath. "He always lifts my spirits and makes me feel like everything's gonna be alright. He's amazing with Patrick. He really wants to get better and be better person. He makes my stomach feel likes waves are hitting against a cliff. He makes my heart flutter as if there's a million butterflies trapped in my rib cage. He makes me feel complete when I'm around him."
When he looked up, Brendon and Dallon were giving him a knowing look.
"Oh my God. I have a crush on Tyler."
