His Proposal - 8.
At 3 pm, I gather my things and look at my sister. "I have to leave soon. Will you be alright until your brother gets here?"
She nods. "I'm a big girl now. I don't need Nate and you here all the time."
Laughing, I say. "Of course you do. What would you do without us?"
She pulls a book out from behind her bed. "I like to read sometimes, but you like to talk a lot."
Shaking my head before I throw a pillow at her. "You've never complained before."
"You haven't been around that much to complain to, " she laughs.
Hugging her. "I'll see you after work." I pick up my handbag and exit the room.
She waves at me as I make my way out of the hospital. Climbing into the car, I head home to get ready for work.
I go through my closet and pull a tight black dress from home. I place it on the bed and then head to the bathroom. I turn the shower on, step in, and wash my hair and body.
After the shower, I wrap a towel around my head and another around my body. I walk into the bedroom and wear black, matching underwear. I pull the dress over my head and pull it down, just in case it catches somewhere. I put my feet into a pair of black ballet flats. Walking to the vanity, I pick up the brush and brush my hair. I put my hair into a ponytail and then lightly apply make-up.

Pulling my car into the parking lot of Lusive, I grab my purse and lock the car before heading towards the club.
A bouncer looks at me. "You're the new bartender, right?"
"Yes, I am."
He opens the door for me. "I'm Ethan. My brother Alex is in there somewhere. You might meet him tonight. Have a good shift." As I pass him, he whispers. "You look great in the dress." He winks at me.
"Thanks," my face starts to heat up. "I'll see you later, Ethan." I enter the bar, and loud music pumps throughout the room.
At the bar, Max looks up from serving his customers. "Well, if it isn't the new bar, wench."
"Ha, ha, ha," I say sarcastically. "It's not like I haven't heard that one before. Where can I put my stuff?"
Jai approaches the bar and looks me over. A smile spreads across his face. "You look great." He whispers in my ear and makes me jump. He puts his arm around my shoulder. "Before you start, I need you to come upstairs and fill out some forms."
Following him to the office, he sits behind his desk and pulls some papers from the drawer. "I need some identification."
I pulled out my driver's licence and looked at it; it still had my old address.
I forgot to change it. I hope that Jai accepts it.
He took my licence and looked it over. "I see you haven't had a chance to change the address yet."
I'll have to do it during the week.
"I'll change it during the week. Does it matter about my address?"
He looks up from the printer. "Your address isn't important. All I need from you is an Emergency Contact Person."
The only person I can think of is my brother. He's one of the remaining Knight family members left alive.
I write his name on the paper and give it back to him.
Jai looks at the name. "Is Nate your father?"
Shaking my head, I say. "He's my brother."
"Why do you have him as your emergency contact person?"
"I don't have anyone else." I open the door to the office. "I'm going downstairs to start my shift since I finished filling out all your forms." I shut the door and walked down the stairs. I step behind the bar and look at Max. "I'm back."
Max shows me how to use the till.
It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. All I have to do is look up the drink type and select it. The price will come up on the register.
Max lets me use the till until I have all the prices in my head. "Do you know how to make drinks?"
"Yes," I turn towards him. "I used to work in a bar when I was in college. If I have any problems, I will ask for help."
"Okay,"
A couple is sitting at the far end of the bar, and I walk over to them.
"Hey, what can I get you?"
"I'll have a Riesling," the female says.
The guy next to her says. "I'll have a beer. Anything on tap will do, sweetheart."
Walking over to the fridge, I pour the woman a glass of wine and put it on the counter before her. Then, I pour the guy his beer. I tell them how much the drinks are.
He gave me the money, and I put it in the cash register. I gave him his change, and they left the bar.
Hearing the phone ring in the office, I walked into it and answered. "Hello, this is Chloe."
"Chloe, can you bring me a Jack Daniels?"
"I'll be up in a minute, Boss."
Hanging up the phone, I pour a shot for the Boss.
Max looks at me. "Where are you going with that?"
"The boss asked me to bring it to him. He just called."
He shakes his head. "The boss wouldn't call. He doesn't drink."
Someone hasn't been to the boss's office before. I've seen his stash there. For some reason, he wants me to go up there.
Looking at the camera, I ask Max. "Do you want to anger the boss? If he doesn't get his drink soon, I'm sure you'll hear from him."
"Go! I've got the customers to serve." He walks over to a group of girls and starts flirting with them.
Stepping out from behind the bar, I approach the stairs. Before I can go any further, a girl blocks my way to the office. She crosses her arms and glares at me. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Upstairs."
She shakes her head. "No one is allowed up there except for the boss and his girlfriend. I know for a fact that you're not his girlfriend."
"I'm not, but he requested a drink from me, and I will give it to him. Get out of my way, or I'll show you what I'm capable of." Putting the shot glass on a step, I look at the woman before me.
She has shoulder-length black hair and a lot of makeup on her face. The bright red lipstick is smudged below her lips. The black dress she's wearing is too small for her, and her boobs are practically popping out.
I wonder if Jai knows this woman protects his office.
She moves towards me.
"Don't," Jai yells. "Step away from Chloe."
The girl turns in his direction. "Why is she allowed up there? I've been around for years, and you choose another woman over me." She points at me. "What's so special about this one?"
Smirking, I say, "I have balls. That's something you lack." Picking up the shot glass, I give her a wink as I climb the stairs to the boss's office.
Jai steps aside. He throws his arm over my shoulders and whispers. "What were your parting words to the girl? Cause it looked like she tasted something off."
I laugh. "I told the woman I have balls, which she lacks."
He laughs. "You're the first person to say something like that to her. That girl has been guarding those stairs for years and hasn't had any luck climbing them."
Taking a seat, I turn towards him and say. "Why am I the one that you let up here?"
Jai shrugs. "I don't know. There's something that I like about you, but I can't put my finger on it."
Giving him his drink. "I'll let you get back to work. I don't want Max annoyed that I'm taking too long up here with the Boss. I wouldn't want him to think something is happening with us."
I can't believe I said all that in front of Jai Marshall, the billionaire who could have any woman.
Quickly exiting the room, I reach the bar and serve people who want a drink.

At 10 p.m., Jai walks out of his office and down the stairs. He stops to talk to a girl, who places her manicured hands on him. He looks up when he notices that I'm staring at him.
I divert my eyes and continue to wipe down the bar.
Jai walks over to me. "I'll walk you out, Chloe." He leads the way out of the club. When we get outside, he follows me to the car. "You did a great job tonight. Here are your tips." He puts a bunch of bills in my hand.
It's too much.
Looking at him, I say. "I can't take it."
"Take it, or I'll put it in the glove compartment. It's your choice."
"Thanks," I take it from him. "I'll see you tomorrow."
He shakes his head. "I'll be out of town for the next two weeks. I'll see you when I get back. Listen to Max while I'm gone. If you have any problems, Ethan and Alex will help you out." Jai opens the car door for me.
"Okay," I climb into the car and start the engine. I pull away from the nightclub and head toward the hospital.
