Chapter 23
"Ow—watch where you're flashing that damn thing!"
"Oh, I'm soooo sorry, it not like you're LITERALLY in the way!"
"At this point, I should've been better off alone."
"Should I leave you to your little princess quest then? Your highness?"
"God you're so insufferable."
With a huff, the security officer squeezed through debris in odd positions, trying to slip through the haphazard structure in an attempt to get through—without risking her uniform being torn at the seams. The beam of light which initially blinded her sight was now aimed at the small segment where she aimed to get to the other side. The debris was of metal and cement, the particles dusting her already-soiled uniform in more grime, but it didn't matter—so long as she stays dry.
"Pass me the light." She instructed, and you handed it over, letting her light the narrow path while you pass through next—it was a bit difficult, since you're not THAT adventurous but you got to the other side, better than nothing.
You and Vanessa had been slipping through openings, trying to understand this underground structure to find a way to escape. In your grasp? A scribbled map you drawn with Vanessa along the way. So far, you managed to map out the place where the kids were staying in, the storage room, the old Pizzaplex... then there's this odd hallway leading to an old mechanism that resembled a crane of some sort? For construction? A scooper? You don't know and you didn't want to stick around to find out its purpose.
Then there's empty, dusty rooms... on both east and west corridor, but this one? Straight on? Its still blank on your page.
Maybe, you can find a way out?
Backtracking, the way you came down from was impossible to pass through, boulders and whatever debris conveniently covered the path. Must be that damn Bonnie who put it up there.
"(Y//N)? You might want to see this..." you snapped out of your thoughts and caught up to where Vanessa was looking.
Up front? A larger cove was presented. The upper curved ceiling looked damn, the air was moist, and lights illuminated from... crystals? Or whatever scientific phenomenon was possible, but it was illuminating blue.
This might be lights, right? Was this an abandoned attraction project or something? Was it some kind of—horror attraction like the news said? Like, how many attractions was this building placed atop on?
"... We... should keep looking." You tugged Vanessa's arm, urging her forward while her eyes were still fixated on the scene beyond them. Tugging a bit harder than earlier worked, and soon, they were striding and—visibly failing—in avoiding damp puddles between uneven rocks, their work shoes drenched every so often but that brought minimal discomfort compared to the eerie sight around them.
The smell was stagnant, as if air circulation had long been cut—but it wasn't suffocating either; it was alive—somehow. With every pitter patter of water down on the puddles below mirrored how their heels landed against that stale surface, the beam from where the flashlight shone against the stalactites did minimal to show them an indication of what was around. The stalagmites were mirroring their counterparts above, but the surface were damp rather than dusty for an abandoned place. Where did air circulate from here? Because at the same time—there wasn't near sight.
"I think... there's a way up." You shone the flashlight at a certain angle up front—rocks and broken stalagmites were on the way, but if you can maneuver over it, there's an old staircase leading up—made of metal, but rusty.
Your footsteps echoed as it met with puddles of stale water, the tap of your heels echoed in the reverberating structure as you finally reached concrete rather than stone. Vanessa followed after you, instinctively grabbing the flashlight in your grasp—knowing you were the impulsive one.
As expected, you handed the flashlight to her, then attempted to climb up a bent stalagmite. Hoisting yourself up, you slipped your legs over, and landed on the other side. There were smaller ones that were easy to slip through if you were careful enough—they do look a bit... too sharp for comfort at the tips.
"You comin' or what?" you reached out a hand while slightly perched atop a broken stalagmite—hazards taken into consideration, since Vanessa probably has one hand occupied.
But just as she was about to reach for your hand, she froze—"Watch out!" she jerked back.
It took you just a second near-miss—a clawed, mechanical hand swiped right where your face was just a few moments ago.
A breathless squeal left you by instinct as you dodged to one side, the hasty action made you slip on your behind. Towering up front were three—no, four? Five? Cleaning bots with eerie painted smiles rolling towards you on wheels, metallic limbs extended, each hand equipped with sharp claws that could tear steel and carve metal. You had to hoist yourself up and dodge another near-miss.
Your heart pounded against your ribcage as the breath was stolen from your lungs, an unfamiliar ringing in your ears nearly made you think you were hit—Vanessa's voice were faint, she was dealing with a problem on her own end, wielding only her flashlight that did nothing to protect her.
"(Y/N)! Run!" she shouted, grabbing a broken piece of a stalagmite to wield as a weapon for defense, bashing one of the bots in the side of the head, lurching the thing against another—then another jumped her, but she swung her only weapon, the head detaching from its body.
The sound of mechanical creaking, metal bending, scratching—they echoed in the enclosed cave as the screeching continued. On your end? you had nothing on your person, the minimal light coupled by the terrifying entities made you want to just run—like Vanessa said, but you won't leave her behind.
"Where the hell did, they come fro—wah!" You cried out once again when another bot slammed a clawed metallic limb on the stair rail, just an inch away from your ear. Both hands flailed to the opposite rail as your feet thumped loudly against the metal platforms, running—up the stairs, to wherever safe distance that grew shorter with every step. Wheels? Hell, they can get up the stairs if they want! What the hell?! How?!
"Shit—!" you slipped after stepping on a puddle conveniently situated at one of the many steps, your eyes close as you brace for the impact that inevitably, your arms will definitely fail to protect you.
A grunt—your head collided onto the metallic step, pulling you into daze for a moment, the ringing in your ears dulled all noise—like something from underwater just as your vision swam to the throbbing headache that formed. You thought you were done for, the bots caught up, claws outstretched, ready to eviscerate you alive—
CLANG!
Metal creaked against metal, the ear-piercing shrill of bots met your ears but none of their limbs reached you. Hesitant as you are, you slowly cracked an eye open—and there stood another endoskeleton, wrestling the eerie bots off the rain, throwing them down the steps. It was getting mauled—but the structure serving resilient under the hostile entities.
One or two were thrown off the rail, one decommissioned through violence—each and every one were taken care of in a display of violence that otherwise shouldn't be witnessed by the likes of you.
You were frozen in your spot, cowering at the exact location where you slipped. Arms curled over your head like a child covering your ears from a horrifying scene ahead—you didn't know what to do, stand? Run for it? find Vanessa first? Was Vanessa okay? What's wrong with this endo?
Why are there even endos here?! Why the hell are there creepy-looking cleaning bots here?!
So many questions ran through your head that you didn't know what else to think about.
But one thing is for sure—the endoskeleton reached its metallic hand out to you after the last bot was no longer operational. You didn't do anything for a solid two minutes—should you grab the hand? Will it maul you? Turn you upside down, inside out or gut you alive? You don't know and you certainly didn't want to do it.
"Come on, more will come if we don't get out of here." The endoskeleton grabbed your wrist and pulled you up, just as Vanessa managed to catch up—albeit a bit injured judging by how she was clutching her left arm. The same look of suspicion was in her face, but the concern over you overshadowed it.
"Wait... that voice—" you muttered as your eyes locked onto the endoskeleton... it sounded just like—
"Come on." And you were pulled along as the endoskeleton dragged you up the steps, Vanessa in tow.
Avoiding debris of bashed bots along the way, the three of you reached the top—a long hall leading probably to a segment under the kitchen area if they navigate the place precise enough.
But you dug your heels on the ground, making the endoskeleton pause, Vanessa held onto your other arm for security—not trusting just about anything made of metal. This made the endoskeleton let go and face you both.
"Sorry... that was sudden... but its me... Bonnie."
"We don't trust you, you were the one who placed us in this mess! Get your casing on, you're too bare!" Vanessa tugged you back, adding more distance as necessary. Despite her injured arm, that same arm extended to keep you behind her, under her protection. "I don't know what mind games you're playing, but spill it out before I whack you with a rock!"
"H-hey chill out!" the endoskeleton raised both hands in defense, taking a step back. "Its really me! I promise! That guy up there is the impostor!"
"Prove it." Vanessa dared, pushing you back just an inch more. The more distance, the better for both of you.
"Okay, look at this." The endoskeleton pointed at its head, specifically at the 'cheek' area, should he have his casing. "Serial number 38262-NDO-9473829, the jaw clips are size 23cm – DVR model 3, only the original models have it, and the newer models like Monty has size 28cm – SKF 4.0, right? Come on!" the endoskeleton actually whined, a bizarre sight.
Vanessa eyed it. "You think we know what the hell those are?!"
"Look, I was with you guys the first time! Its just—one night I was in Roxy's Raceway and I was attacked by another endo! Like, a creepy one! That thing dismantled and took my casing! It trapped me down here—seriously!" it continued to whine to a point that Vanessa contemplated running away.
But you stared at the animatronic endoskeleton... a memory floated your mind.
That one night when you heard Rose was leaving? Freddy found you in the janitor's closet that time, but Bonnie showed up and—you could vaguely remember what Freddy said.
"No, it's not that. However, I could see marks all over your casing."
"You should get your casing cleaned too, and do be careful next time, alright?"
Those words, you remembered running away from embarrassment, but you didn't get far, you heard Freddy and Bonnie talking about Bonnie's dirtied and damaged casing. But what didn't add up was how exactly did Bonnie damage his own casing?
Fell down the steps? But the damage contains claw marks?
You were no techy, so you never asked, nor butt in to give Freddy ideas but that alone was a clear red flag.
"December 3rd, did it happen that day?" you quietly asked, making the animatronic endoskeleton pause in its dramatic whining.
"Yeah! I was gonna meet Freddy that night, but I was thrashed! I have no idea what happened next!" it took a step forward, though inched backward again at Vanessa's warning look. "How about this, I know a way out but there's a seal that only humans can access, I'll get us all out, I promise!"
"(Y/N), you don't seriously trust this thing—"
"Yeah, sure, let's go." You walked past her defense just as the endoskeleton led the way. Vanessa stood dumbfounded, raised her arms with a silent groan of frustration before begrudgingly following—she did not trust anything made of metal at this point.
Though she sure hopes you know what you're doing.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"A security panel." You blurted out as the endoskeleton—well, "Bonnie", pointed to a steel door. It was one of the structures leading up the utility tunnels. But it was sealed shut, pressurized. The panel on one side connected to the generator, but its not an ordinary panel—it was biometric. "No wonder you couldn't access it. Is this the only exit?"
"Yeah, from what I saw. I'm kinda too tall to slip through gaps, you know?" it scratched the back of its neck (?), the sheepish action received a side eye from Vanessa. "Perhaps you two have access?"
You tried placing a palm over the console—it flashed red, denied. "I think it needs a security pass level... 12? Does that exist?"
"Its executive, level 12, I mean. Anyways, step aside." Vanessa gently waved you out of the way as she faced the panel. She didn't bother trying to access it from where it was situated—rather, she knelt down and used a spare card she had on her person to loosen and wedge the panel underneath. When removed with a creak, inside were bundles of wires upon motherboard chips and segments that only the tech guys mess around with.
But Vanessa was built different. She eyed the panel just for a few moments and disconnected one of the many wires connected to the circuit board. "Try manually opening the door." The command was towards the endoskeleton—because, why not use the guy? Though she still barely showed a shred of trust.
"Yes ma'am!" it saluted and held onto one side of the sliding metallic door, then pulled—a series of creaks against metal was heard, but it gave away. With a manual pull, the door opened, revealing another hall with a staircase going up. The endo didn't lie; this could be the way out.
"Wow, how did you know which wire to pull?" you never knew Vanessa had a techie side on top of her usually brisque personality.
"Seriously? There's a "power" label here, I just disconnected that." She brushed it off and headed up front, using the flashlight she thankfully kept with her to ensure she wouldn't trip on a foreign object.
You and the endoskeleton looked at each other before shrugging, and followed Vanessa down the hall, and up the stairs. As hypothesized by "Bonnie", it did lead to the utility tunnels. But due to your access card being lost... somewhere, you couldn't open as many doors as usual, if not for the door being already unlocked by a previous directive.
"Do you think we should go get the kids?" you asked, making Vanessa paused for a moment.
"No, not yet. That thing is still out there, its too dangerous to bring the kids out and risk injury. I left a box of snacks there, we'll get them when we thrash that Bonnie wannabe."
The endoskeleton faked a gasp. "So you DO trust me now?!"
"No, I'm still angry." Vanessa pushed through and checked the door on the left—unlocked. "Mazercise, its our best way out, come on." She pushed the door open and a staircase presented itself.
Using an elevator could trigger security systems, best they don't let that "mimic" know where they are too early on or they'll risk another attack.
The stair trip was relatively short... not. You were out of breathe by the time you landed upon the neonic colors of Chica's one and only attraction. Her posters, automated audio and the god forsaken cleaning bots (which you've grown to be traumatized of) were roaming the carpets with a broomstick.
You gave a gulp as Vanessa took the lead, shutting off her flashlight and tucking it in her holster. "Remember that panel I complained about during the day?"
"Uh, the one kids were playing with?"
"Yes, did you lock it like I told you to do the other day?"
"... No?"
"Good, let's go." You were a bit confused as Vanessa took the lead, slipping through the entrance of Mazercise—with an endoskeleton following behind. The cleaning bots were luckily at one area far from the entrance, making your presence go undetected. The Mazercise arena was filled with moveable blocks of artificial wall panels, meant to keep the people in the game while trying to slip for a way out—but Vanessa knew better.
The panel was loose—a benefit from your laziness to follow orders. And through it? a crawlspace made of metal could reach the other side, the place connecting to Monty's Gator Golf by the catwalks.
"Why are we here exactly? Shouldn't we be warning Freddy?"
"Do you think he'll believe us over wannabe over there? I'm not taking risks. Whatever that thing is afraid of exposing is bound to be in the office above fazerblast. Best we check that out first."
"Isn't that the diary? I don't remember if I lost it there or if the mimic took it from me—"
"Look, its there the first time. Obviously, he placed it back in the office above Fazerblast."
"But Fazerblast is—"
"I know where that damn attraction is, but there's a catwalk shortcut if we get on one of the gator rides to the other side, that catwalk leads to the east of fazerblast. There should be a connecting catwalk to the office."
"This feels like a spy movie, I'm so enthusiastic—"
"You're not helping." Vanessa eyed the endoskeleton, her patience decreasing by every minute the animatronic tried to speak. She almost wished they could ditch him—if not for his potential to be a bodyguard with physical bruteness. "The sooner we get that intel, the more we'll be able to strategize our next move. Let's go."
Their heels clanked against metal, especially with an enormous endoskeleton tracking behind them, but you didn't mind—hopefully, Vanessa didn't anymore.
The scenery was typical for an attraction; the swampy vibes and roaring audio of alligators played on speakers. The gator ride to the other side was still operational, run on low power for purposes that prevents them getting... cranky in the morning. Vanessa hopped into a moving one, just as you followed—though you almost fell, if not for the endoskeleton hoisting you over the ride to keep you in one piece. the ride was short, but it allowed you a moment to sight above the attraction—Monty wasn't here, so was anyone else. Where are they really?
By the time they reached the other side, you all got off—flashlight flicked on, and just like what Vanessa claimed—there was a junction shaft leading to the catwalks of Fazerblast. This kind of architecture still baffles you in how employees can oversight the attractions from above. Safety? Questionable, but it gets the job done—that's the important thing in Fazbear Entertainment's order of prioritization.
"There! I see the office!" you pointed at a direction, aiming to run over and get there as fast as possible but—
"(Y/N)?" you paused, up front, newly turned from another junction stood Freddy and... Bonnie? No, the fake Bonnie.
"Freddy? I—"
"(Y/N), we've been looking everywhere for you—and Vanessa too! Wait, what's that with you?" the animatronic in disguise pointed to the endoskeleton behind you. "Oh no, did that thing hold you hostage? This is bad, endoskeletons are getting too quirky at night, who knows what ideas it planted in your heads!"
"What? No! This is the real Bonnie—" Vanessa tried to reason—the endoskeleton lighting up at the prospect of finally being trusted by the security guard—but the pretender nudged the leader of the band.
"That endo brainwashed the security guards! No wonder they've been acting odd. Freddy, we need to help them!" and with just that statement, the animatronic beside it began to narrow its gaze.
"I will not allow any threat to induce injury to citizens." Freddy inched forward, mechanical claws outstretched, as if preparing for a brawl—
"No! You got it all wrong—" but one look at the pretender? It said a lot on what it'll do the moment it got its hands on you or Vanessa.
"He's not listening, run!" Vanessa shouted at you as she took the lead in sprinting at the far right of the fork just as Freddy made a move.
You squealed, running to the far left, leaving the endoskeleton behind—Bonnie—the real one—can handle himself but you're definitely irreparable if you lose a limb. And from the look that the fake Bonnie gave? Yeah, he's after you alright.
So, you did what Vanessa asked of you, run!
"You take care of the hostile endo; I'll catch up on the girls. Don't worry, I'll make sure they're safe." The blue animatronic patted Freddy's shoulder before giving chase down the left fork of the catwalk.
This left Freddy to face the endo. Freddy wasn't really the animatronic who would choose physical violence over—anything for the matter. But right now? It warranted.
"Freddy, it's me! Bonnie—"
"I recommend you keep quiet before I take that privilege away from you." The animatronic wasn't listening to reason, its stance was firm as it faced the case-less animatronic.
"You shouldn't have targeted Officers (Y/N) and Vanessa for whatever manipulistic games you're plotting." He inched closer by one heavy step, making the endoskeleton take a step back.
"Because for the people I care about? I don't mind getting my hands dirty."
