.|chapter eight|.

I looked up to the sky at the glowing stars. It had been a few moons, and I was still thinking about Burnetflash. I knew she was going to be watching me from above, but the feeling of her not being in the den made me annoyed. It felt like yesterday that Burnetflash's ginger fur was right across from the den. I buried my head into my nest and kept reminding myself that my mentor wasn't truly gone.

The next day, I woke up after the dawn patrol came back from their tasks. I stretched my forelegs, then my hindlegs; I didn't expect anyone to visit me today since most were out on hunting patrols, and it had been very quiet between the rogues and loners living out in the wild. I looked up to see a gray colored tom come up to me.

"Fleetrunner! Fleetrunner! There's a kit! An injured kit!" the deputy, Condorflight yowled at him.

I quickly got up and started to take some herbs, "Condorflight, where's the kit?" I meowed as I grabbed some cobwebs and some thyme to calm the cat down.

"Near the Twoleg houses, there is this fox trap who seems to have caught a cat," Condorflight explained as he grabbed some of the thyme that I offered.

I nodded and started to leave with Condorflight at my side. Condorflight was still a little bit fidgety because he never wanted others to feel the pain of being inside of the fox trap. I understood about Condorflight's past and didn't want to dig deeper into that situation. Once we arrived out of the forest, a few meows were heard from nearby, and the two set off to find it. We sniffed the air to see if the kit had some sort of different scent. Once the older gray tom found the scent, they followed it to a distinct area where they saw under a bush a white and brown cat. I looked in shock - the kit reminded him of Bonny, his sister. The markings were so similar that it could be a sign.

"It can't be," I mumbled quietly.

"What did you say, Fleetrunner?" Condorflight asked.

"Nothing..." I responded.

I proceeded to drop all the herbs and distracted Condorflight by trying to force free the little cat trapped inside, it's kept meowing out of pain. It hurt my ears, but it didn't matter as long as in the end the kit stayed alive. My mindset was just to save the kit - if it failed, I would regret it.

The kit's blood started to come out from the fox trap's jaw, and it tried to purr to calm itself down. I tried to pry the jaws opened from the top while Condorflight pulled from the bottom. A gap was made and the kitten slipped out, covered in wounds, and it was still meowing in pain. I grabbed the cobwebs that I just spat onto the ground and covered the little kit's wounds. I then ripped a small piece of thyme for the kit to eat to try and calm down after the situation it got into.

"Fleetrunner, should we leave this kit?" Condorflight asked.

I shook his head, "It may get trapped in the fox trap again and it wouldn't be convient to waste more herbs on a mouse-brain decision we made. I suggest we bring it back to Rookstar to see what he should do about it."

Condorflight nodded but hesitated. He didn't want to just take the kit or leave it alone because of what might happen. The warrior code also states that no cat should leave a kit even if it was from a rogue, kittypet, or loner. He sighed and looked at me, I was carrying the white and brown kit in my jaw. Upon arrival back to the camp a bunch of warriors were sharing tongues in the clearing and I went through to go to the leader's den. The RuneClan warriors looked at their medicine cat who was holding a kit who wasn't the same scent as the rest of the clan. Their eyes were full of shock. Some saw that the kitten was injured and knew that the deputy and medicine cat would be smart enough to follow the warrior code and not leave it to get eaten by the other predators out there. I stepped into Rookstar's den and lightly laid the white and brown cat in front of my leader.

"Rookstar, Condorflight and I have found this kit stuck in a fox trap, and it was minorly injured so I decided to take it back to hear your decision of what to do with it," I explained, I was still a little nervous of what I was going to say next.

Rookstar told his medicine cat "Fleetrunner, you should have taken it back to whoever owns them." he meowed.

I started to get nervous and tried to say something clearly, "I think that this kit it related to me."

"Fleetrunner!? You told me you had no family."

"Yes, I lied because I wanted to join your clan and didn't want anyone to send me back." I answered.

Rookstar nodded, "Understood, Fleetrunner. You may keep the kit by your side, but look out for it or we will send it back to the Twolegs. Understand?"

I dipped my head in acknowledgment as I started to make a small nest for the small kit. Rookstar looked at the den from afar, the kit was already starting to sleep. I looked and turn around, but fear was locked in my eyes.
