Beep...

Beep...

Beep...

🗝 T e m p u s f u g i t 🗝

In the dimly lit hospital room, the steady beep of monitors formed a metronome-like rhythm, punctuating the heavy silence that hung in the air. The scent of antiseptic mingled with the faint aroma of flowers from a vase on the bedside table, creating an oddly comforting atmosphere.

The hospital bed, a fortress of white sheets and sterile linens, cradled the half-conscious figure. I felt how my form lay still, soon gaining my conciuosness fully, slowly opening my eyes, the fluorescent lights cast a harsh glare, illuminating the scene with clinical precision. Shadows danced across the walls, casting eerie shapes that seemed to whisper secrets to those who dared to listen. Tubes and wires snaked from my body to various machines, connecting them to the invisible web of medical care that sustained my own existence.

Outside the window, the world moved on, oblivious to the drama unfolding within the hospital walls. Cars honked, sirens wailed, and pedestrians bustled about their daily lives, their faces blurred and indistinct from this vantage point.

Within the room, time seemed to stand still, suspended in a liminal space between life and death. Even if I felt more awake than ever, I kept on drifting in and out of consciousness, my mind a haze of fragmented thoughts and half-remembered dreams.

Occasionally, a nurse would enter the room, her footsteps soft against the linoleum floor. She would check the monitors, adjust the IV drip, and offer words of reassurance to me, as if that would help. But her presence was fleeting, a mere flicker in the vast expanse of time that stretched out before me.

In the quiet moments between the nurses visits, I was left alone with my own thoughts, adrift in a sea of uncertainty. Memories flickered like distant stars in the recesses of my mind, elusive and fleeting. I tried to grasp hold of myself, to anchor myself to some semblance of reality, but the harder I tried, the further I slipped away.

And so I lay there, suspended between the realms of consciousness and oblivion, my existence a fragile thread woven into the fabric of the universe. In the hospital room, time seemed to bend and warp, folding in on itself like origami, until past, present, and future became indistinguishable from one another. And in that moment of profound stillness, I found solace in the quietude of my own thoughts.

🗝

The silence inside the white walls was soon disturbed by quicker footsteps, a creak of the door being slowly opened and the same nurse who would visit me every now and then stepped in with a tired smile.

"I see that now you look more better than a week before," She kindly spoke with a warm tone, trying to act much more alive and happier than that nurse really was. I have seen enough times to see how she would burge in into the room, murmur some swear words under her breath and then leave with a smile.

I merely nodded weakly at her words before the nurse stepped to the side and a doctor walked in with another lady standing next to him. Strange, it seems like I recognize the lady..?

"Good morning, I hope you had a good rest while you stayed here. We have brought a woman here with us. Do you recognize her?" The doctor questioned with caution, trying his best both to and not to trigger anything from me. Trying to jog my memory.

Oh right, a couple days back, the doctor did come to me with results of stating that perhaps of what had happened to me caused me severe damage and temporary amnesia. Temporary, because I still remembered my name, my birthday and who i was as a person, but appearantly i have lost track of time and couldnt even recall my own age, who my parents are or where im from or live. I should regain my memories soon enough, perhaps in a day or two.

I looked at the woman next to the doctor. She seemed quite young, perhaps a little too young to be my mother, so that goes out of the way. She dressed slightly revealing too.  Very short shorts, black tights and long leather boots. A somwhat white crop topped T-shirt, originally guessing was not, but the lady sewed it tighter and cut it shorter herself. The crop top had a couple of random lines on it, almost resembling wings in a way, seems also hand drawn and a leather jacket on top to go with the leather boots. She had one simple necklace with a pick on it, a red one. Her makeup was smudged and worn out, but colorful, her eyeshadow being mixed with a black and a slight purple with glitter, making it look like a chaotic smoky eye. Silver hoop earing dangling from her ears and as soon as her brown hair moved out of the way, one visible eyebrow piercing caught my eye. She is definetly a free spirited person and a lot going on inside her head, huh.

"Y/n, I am sorry, dear, are you okay? You spaced out just now, the doctor asked you a question." The nurse spoke louder than usual. Okay.

"I am okay, sorry, no, I do not recognize the lady." I answered truthfully, I mean, she seems like somebody I would know but not exactly.

"Shucks, that is a shame, I'm your auntie, Y/n, on your moms side. I've come to pick you up," The woman chattered in a sincere tone, trying her best not to be too loud.

Ah shit, right, I forgot my mother is dead. I dont know why, but i feel like my mother perhaps wasn't even my mother?...Why did i even think that lady would be my mom....the doctor did tell me of some of my records that he had found..i guess...

"Ah, really? Can I finally leave now? These hospital gowns really are starting to stench" I responded in a huff, looking down at the white gown with blue polka dots I've been wearing for the longest time since I have woken up in this goddamn hospital.

The young adult almost snorted at my comment, trying to keep her composure. "Yeah girl! I'm getting your ass out of here!" She exclaimed happily, seeming very excited to finally have company.

The doctor coughed at her sudden language to which she quietly murmured a "sorry" in return and took out soemthing from her purse, which fortunatley for me, were clothes and they were thrown over to me.

"Dress up girl and I'll wait for you behind the door." She winked as she started shooing the nurse and doctor away, telling them she'll speak for me behind closed doors. "I'm Adrianna, but call me Adri! See ya later."

"Girl, what the actual fuck..?" I muttered to myself, slowly turning my head back to the bag of clothes and taking them out, all of them coming in dark shades. Nice stuff, huh.

🗝

Now standing, I looked down at the clothes I was wearing, definetly a change in color schemes, alright.

Black boots accompanied by slightly lighter shade of black baggy pants, a black belt with sparkles on it and a grey short sleeved shirt. What an eye catching colorful combo.

I weakly went to the door and headed out seeing the wom- Adri standing, while texting someone on her phone, which had..buttons? Isn't it supposed to be touch-screen? Huh, of course not.

"Uh..hey Adri, I'm good to g-" Before i could say anything else, I immediatley got tackled by her in a tight hug, which caused me to hiss as she squeezed one of my wounds that still needed recovery.

"Oh shit, shit. Sorry hun, not doing that until you're all healthy and alive looking," She joked as I just stood there.

"Do I not look alive now?" I questioned her as she looked off to the side, making a small whistle.

"Well...you don't look dead either, in the middle! Anyways let's go, we're going back to our lil house. Oh, you have no idea how much you scared my ass. How in the living world did you get in a car accident? I mean, drivers these days are a bunch of assholes, I swear, always driving where they are not supposed to. But it's good to know that you're fine. When your momma gave birth to you, she legit dead eyed me that I'm supposed to always keep you safe and unhurt 24/7 if something happens...I mean, you're alive so it counts-"

Okay, hold up. I know she might be excited to see me, but I'm excited to see normal food for once and she is blabbing too much.

"Uh...Adri? Can you slow down..? My brain is barely processing anything that you've been saying," I bluntly stated, staring at her as we both started walking out of the hospital.

"Oh yeah, babe don't worry, sorry about that, just a habit to rush my entire speech, hopefully you'll remember that in some time..the doc did tell that your amnesia will take a couple days to recover...soooo..I planned a trip!" Adrianna exclaimed happily, as we exited the hospital, the fresh air hitting my face, it was very refreshing after that dead air inside the building full of sick people.

She defintely doesnt know how to help me.

I thought while drifting in and out of focus until I saw the parking lot for visitors for the hospital and nearing one of the cars.

"Oh yeah? What type of trip?" I asked as we got into her car, me sitting down in the passenger seat. Well it's quite comfortable here..

"Hmmm I don't kiss and tell, hun. But it'll be fun I promise!" She chuckled after turning on her car and slowly getting out of the parking lot and hitting the gas to speed into the main street. Allowed speed of course.

"Please tell me that that trip is for tomorrow and not today because I will crash out," I tried to make it tad bit more dramatic, because for sure I was dreading even of meeting anyone at all, human interaction for the time being is a no no. Especially after being half dead in a hospital bed.

Adrianna roles her eyes,"Gosh I forgot how whiny teenagers are" she said as she made a turn into some other street that I may or may not recognize, it seemed familiar for sure. Oh sheesh, one of those apartments definitely seems in somewhat worse condition than others..

I raised a brow at her comment, not noticing that I was actually thinking out loud instead of inside my head, "You don't even look so old yourself"

She turned her head to my side, raising her brows in amusement at my words, "Oh, why thank you! You're making me blush. I'm actually almost thirty-six. Feeling old nowadays."

Okay, bullshit. She looks younger...or actually no..maybe she does look her age..but still.. "You're thirty-five? Damn, you look way younger."

Adrianna chuckled, it seemed like whatever I was saying, was a comedy show in her eyes. "Am I supposed to look like a grandma at mid-thirties or what are you implying?"

"I'm implying at nothing Adri...just surprised," I raised my hands up in self defense to show that I surrender to her question.

She shook her head before popping her gum and went back to chewing. When did she even get gum?
"Mkay, anyways topic change. Since we moved in here like a month ago..and you managed to get into a car accident one week later....is beyond me. Anyhow, we still have some boxes to unpack, so it'll be hectic as we get back home. Don't worry hun, your room is half set with your favorite band posters and allat stuff, you'll just have to finish all the rest of your decorations and other personal belongings in their needed places."

Oh fuck no. I hate unpacking. "Woohooo..sounds fun."

She snorted at the obvious sarcasm,"You know you can rest for the day right? I ain't forcin' ya to do child labour or anything. Either way, I'll help you with that stuff, I mean...look at that huge scar yuo got on your left arm now and..lots...of bruises still..."

I looked down at my left arm seeing it fully bandaged up, I could move it of course, it's not broken, but it's just all fucked up and scarred and stitched up, so it hurts like a bitch to move it a lot. "Yeah thanks..I haven't seen myself in a mirror yet"

She sighed as she made a final turn, entering a small little neighborhood full of houses, big and small. "Darling, you look fine, just a lil rough around the edges, but you'll heal, don't worry," She smiled warmly at me as we finally came to a stop.

I looked out the window to avoid the unnecessary eye contact, since it's still awkward in a way. "Alright.."

🗝

I stood on concrete ground, looking at the house before me, it seemed cozy and it was actually not simply small. Not super big either, but definitely enough for four or maybe even five people.

"Wow you weren't kidding that this is a house, it's huge"

Adrianna stretched her legs and arms as she got out of the car and locked it's standing proudly in front of the house, "Not as huge as m-" she coughed loudly, almost too loudly, "Uh yeah, my husband and I bought it because of our new job and so you get a better place to live too, ya know."

I'll pretend that I definetly didn't understand what she as hinting at. She might be in her mid thirties, but she definitely has her mindset at a teenager level.

"Soo...what job do you have?"

Adrianna groaned, seemingly bothered by the question, but also nervous, "Oh you know..just boring stuff with law and..stuff...yeah"

I stared at her for a good couple seconds before speaking, "You? Law? what."

She sighed as she took out the keys to the house and unlocked it, letting me in first as she began talking, "I feel like I'm still being mocked. Temporary amnesia or not, you still manage to make those type of comments that hurt my soul." She fake whined, acting dramatic as if she were on stage. "Okay all jokes aside, yeah...technically I'm more in the law area itself, while Cassian is more in the law enforcment"

Cassian? Damn, what a name. "Who's Cassian?"

She almost looked at me dead in the eye, as if I were acting really stupid of not connecting the dots quickly enough. Well sorry miss, I ain't Mr. Knowitall.

"My husband. Your uncle."

"Oh."

She huffed as she took out a pack of cigarettes, while simultaneously taking out her lighter from her jackets pocket.

"Anyways, go up the stairs, you'll find your room on the left side of the hall as you turn"

I stormed to the stairs before looking back at her, the cigarette already lit and in her mouth as she took a small drag of it. Okay girl. "Okay, thanks Adri."

She looked back at me with such eyes, almost full of life and just heartwarming, welcoming with peace. "No problem, kid..."

🗝

As I went up the stairs, I went left as Adrianna told me and saw a slightly opened door and entered, and oh holy moly, it definitely was my room, alright.
It was quite big actually, lots of space, but that's because there was only a bed, table with drawers and a chair, and a closet, everything else stuffed in the paper boxes. There were some posters in the room as she had mentioned before...There was some band posters for sure..Nirvana, Pantera, Deftones..Metallica, green day...I do recall their music, so I'm not a fully lost cause to the amnesia.

I explored my room further, I saw an electric guitar surrounded by the boxes, a skateboard in a corner. Oh yeah, I remember that. I do skate, don't I? Oh well, time will tell.

I saw a box full of small objects or just random junk I had, a vinyl, some supplies for school. Oh shit. Right I'll be going to school. Nockfell high, right? Oh wait, we're in Nockfell, riiiight.

I soon decided to head to the bathroom to check the mirror. It took me a couple minutes to find it, I only falsely entered to what I presumed was Adri's room and the other left door was the bathroom.

I quickly turned on the lights and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked..okay. The right side of my face was ever so slightly bruised since that's where my face collided with the concrete...more or less... My left arm bandaged up and ready to live forward. Couple bruises surrounding both of my left and right arms, which is obvious. I looked pretty beaten up, but still luckily the driver didn't drive at a speed that could've killed me. So gotta be thankful for that, I guess.

Dope stuff.

Wait a second, did I have a vinyl in my room?...

Just as that thought got into my head, I rushed back to my room, my bruises and wounds all forgotten about, either way I looked badass. Just tad bit out of breath, I  looked around near the pile of boxes and saw the vinyl.

Oh my stars, that's like the best thing to have. I immediately went to it and checked its functions. Okay, a spot to place the vinyls, of course...A radio to it too? Hmm...oh also a space for cassette tapes too. This shit is a multitasking queen. I love this house already.

I should maybe go thank Adrianna for everything?...I mean she is my auntie..she did babysit me all the time when my..uh...mother..was at work?. Yeah. Oh waaaaait... Yup I remember that woman now. She's gonna dig this information.

I decided to head back down to share the new info I have, that wowzies, my amnesia is slowly subsiding.

I eagerly dashed down the stairs right to the living room while almost shouting, "Hey Adri! Adri guess wha-oh. Am I inturupting something?" I stopped in my tracks as I saw Adrianna almost pinned against the couch in our living room by a man, my guess being Cassian. He seemed around her age, somewhat older, I would presume. He was in police uniform and a dreamy volume haircut done.

Adrianna quickly pushed Cassian away from her to create some distance between them to pretend as if nothing had happened. "Oh fu- darling sorry for the scene...what did you wanna say?"

I scrunched my nose at their make-out scene as Cassian just looked of to the side as if he had done no wrong and Adri almost sweating as she tried her best to be PG friendly.

"Yeah you guys are disgusting as I can remember.."

Adri's eyes shot open in surprise before realizing,"Oh, you remember?!"

I nodded in response with a light shrug, "Somewhat yes auntie"

"Well this is a...nice reunion?" Cassian tried to joke as he tried keeping eye contact with me, but more or less looking at Adri with 'help me' eyes.

"Please don't make out in front of me ever again." I spoke with a fake gag noise.

The both of them coughing awkwardly almost at the same time, trying to preoccupy themselves with different things. Cassian went to go change upstairs, my guess, and auntie went to the kitchen to grab a snack as I went along with her.

"Soooo....are you excited for school, Hun?" Auntie asked, trying her best to change the topic, I simply went along.

"Honestly? Yes and no. I mean, school is boring by itself, especially depends on who is your teacher. Yes, because I could..ya know..meet people, but that also can go into the no category, because..well people?" I explained as Adri handed me a cookie to snack on, which I gladly accepted.

"Ah school...so happy I don't need to go to school anymore. But besides that point, I'm sure you'll find friends, you're cool as hell, who's your auntie, huh? Me raisin ya made you be suuuper cool." She praised herself, I could almost see the ego aura surround her.

"Mhm, whatever you say auntie. Right, when is the first day of school?" I questioned, trying to know when hell year is going to start.

"If I'm not mistaken...in three days, today is Friday, so if we include this day, it is in fact three days, tomorrow will be two days till school. And tomorrow we'll go...." She stopped mid sentence, making a dramatic drum noise before a loud 'pow!'

"To the mall!"

"The mall? Really?"

Adrianna raised a brow at me as she swallowed her cookie while placing one hand on her hip.

"What? Don't you wanna go shopping for new clothes? Look better than everyone else?"

I almost chuckled at her words, she's not only full of ego, but trying to boost me as well, but I'd say it's confidence.

"Of course, of course."

Adrianna smiled and gave me a slight kiss on the forehead. Before heading with me upstairs, leading me to my room.

"You better go sleep, honey. You'll need rest, especially after staying in that hospital. Oh and don't forget to take a shower later," She winked before closing my door. I could hear her footsteps echo on the wooden boarding get more silent until all could be heard was the door of her bedroom closing.

Well alright. Let's go shower.
