I sat threw the school day only half paying attention. I was too busy thinking about the vision, or whatever it was that I saw in the park.
Knowing my sister is out there somewhere, being hunted by someone, maybe even something, isn't a comforting thought.
The bell rings and it is finally time for lunch. I grab my books off my desk and head to my locker. Daniel is standing there, waiting for me. "Hey, Oliver," he says. "Hi." I put my books away and walk with him to the lunch room.
We sit in silence until he says, "Hey... why where you late for class?" I shrug my shoulders, "Just slept in I guess."
He nods and goes back to eating his sandwich. Kaylie sees us and walks over.
"Hi,guys. What's up?"
Danny laughs," Not much. It's been pretty quiet. Just asked Oliver why he was late. No big deal really."
I drop my own sandwich on my plate and put my head in my hands. My head has been aching ever since the thing at the park.
Kaylie puts her hand on my arm, "Are you sure you're okay? You look kinda sick." I lower my hands and sit up strait.
I despretly want to tell someone, anyone actually, about what was happening. The problem with that is they would probably think I was insane or grieving. Maybe both.
"I... it's hard to explain..." Daniel and his sister look at me funny.
"Come on," Daniel says, "How weird can it be?"
I smile a bit, "It's really weird actually." I think a minute about what to tell them. I look up to see them staring at me, waiting. I decide on the truth.
"Okay," I say, "Just don't laugh or anything like that."
They nod in unison.
"I-I've been having... visions... of my sister.
"The first one was the other night. I grabbed her teddy bear and then I was in the woods. And I was running. I think was seeing what she saw. Then again this morning while walking through the park.
"I saw my sister hiding and something in the trees. She screamed and I... I don't know... woke up?"
I look up from my sandwich, which I had been staring at while taking. They are looking at me wide-eyed. I clear my throat. Maybe telling to truth was the wrong choice.
"So... you get visions of your sister running a monster," Daniel says. I start to nod, but then shake my head, "I don't know if it's a monster."
He pauses, "Right, not a monster. But what you're saying, this is real? You're not trying to spook us?"
I shake my head, "This is real, as weird as it sounds."
"So, now what?"
"What do you mean 'now what'?" I ask.
He looks at me as though it's obvious, "We figure out more stuff about your visions. We find your sister. Then we save her."
"Wait, you believe me?" I ask, confused.
"Well sure," Kaylie says after not speaking for a long time. "I mean weirder stuff has happened. A few years back a guy said he could hear what his dog was thinking."
Daniel looks at Kaylie with disgust, "That was just some crazy dude trying to get attention. This," he waves his hand in my direction, "is our friend getting freaky of his sister and creep chasing her!"
Kaylie huffs and folds her arms over her chest. "Just trying to help," she mumbles.
I smile at the fact he called me his friend. I have friends that don't think I'm insane. This is a way better reaction than I could have hoped for.
The bell rings and we get up to throw away our trash and head off to our next classes.
Daniel and Kaylie catch me before I leave the lunch room. " Are you busy this weekend? Because maybe we can test you weird mind powers and find Maria."
"No, I don't think I'm busy."
Kaylie smiles, "Cool. We'll just come with you on your way home on Friday."
I nod," Sounds like a plan."
I turn and walk out of the room.
