Hinata's P.O.V.
This night, couldn't have become anymore difficult to comprehend..
My best friend, and my love, Kageyama Tobio, has brain cancer, an abusing father and loves me in return... this is crazy. Of course, I wasn't ever going to let Kageyama go back to his father, nope. Not gonna happen. His left eye was swollen and bruises scattered his face with hand marks on his body. That's just cruel to do that to your own son..
I had to think for a moment. This was a hard problem to solve. I wiped my somewhat wet eyes, sniffling as I stood up and held my hand to the taller male to help him to his feet. I don't think my mom nor dad would really mind Kageyama's company, neither would Natsu, they love guests! "So, Kageyama? You can stay at my house and stay in my room, because you can't go back to your house, it's not safe" I spoke truthfully, feeling Tobio's grip on my hand as I hauled him to his feet. The raven haired male brushed off the leaves and dirt from himself, his eyes still teared up as he shrugged. "I-I-- alright" he mumbled, swaying back and forth. He didn't look okay at all, but we can push through this! It's like another obstacle, exactly like Nekoma! Well, uh, besides that Cancer can kill him and Nekoma is pretty nice.. oh well you get the point!
"Alright, great!" I shouted trough a whisper, still seeing him cringe as I took his arm to guide him. I could tell he was doing better, now that we were still in darkness from being outside. The two of us walked out from the woods. I smiled to try and lift up the mood setting.
"So.. When's your next doctor's appointment?"I asked, stirring up conversations was the worst thing I can do.
"Oh. Uh, tomorrow afternoon.." he yawned, scratching the back of his head while slightly leaning on me, needing support that I gladly let him have.
"Okay, I'll ditch school and take you there, what are you going to do there?" I asked with another prying question to get more details. I needed to know this stuff, most definitely.
He slowly went to his phone, the brightness setting as low as it can go as he sighed. "Chemo? And x-rays?.." he mumbled, trying to read seemed like a challenge for him. I don't think it was because he's not the smartest, it's most likely his cancer in his brain.
"Oh, I heard that's painful..." I kinda said the wrong thing at the time because Kageyama's face looked still and somewhat horrified as he swallowed hardly. "M-mhm..." he mumbled. Dammit Shouyo! I messed it up again! Aghghhhh!
"S-sorry! I mean, I'll be with you the whole way through, I won't leave your side I promise!" I babbled, accidentally being to loud that Kageyama stumbled a bit, holding one of his ears. Oh common, I can't get any of this right!
"Yeah... thanks.." he muttered in a depressing way that made my heart sink. I miss the Tobio that would sulk when he did a perfect set and he thought it was messed up, though it was amazing! I miss the Tobio who was healthy and strong and could fight fiercely during matches. I just....I miss him..
"We're almost home!" I yelped, taking his arm while dragging him lightly to my house. The lights shined through the windows, causing him to stop in his tracks and shield his eyes. Oops, forgot that part. "Uh, Stay right here! I'll go turn the lights down and tell them to lower their voices!" I squealed, rushing inside to see complete mayhem. Natsu was playing around with dads hair, music was blasting, mom was cleaning the dishes and the lights blaring. Oh my god...
"I'm home!" I screamed through the house, my father and sister smiling, both waving to me with enthusiasm. "Welcome back kiddo~" my dad chirped, holding my sister as Natsu giggled. "Yeah! Sho-Sho's back!" She yelled as I nodded, sighing. "Yeah, I uh. Need to ask you all a favor!" I shouted again, causing my mom to shut off the music and television. "Yes Shouyo?" My mom purred as I grinned, twiddling my fingers. "You know Kageyama right?"
They all nodded in unison.
"Can he well, um, stay here for like, forever?" I asked, knowing it was definitely a long shot.
My mom's eyes widened, before an eyebrow raised. "And why's that?" She asked, somewhat confused.
I took a deep breath to explain everything. "Well, today in practice Kageyama fainted and we brought him to the hospital but they only said he had a fever but he actually had brain cancer so he can't handle very loud noises and bright lights, that's all I really have heard from him and witnessed and he cant stay home because his father is abusive and I realllllly don't know where his mom is! Let him stay pleaseeee!" I spoke so quickly, my tongue felt as if it were to fall from my mouth.
My parents had their jaws dropping from shock as my sister had a confused expression. "What does cancer do mama?" Natsu asked, a curious tone attached to her voice.
My mom closed her mouth and blinked back to reality as she flicked her finger at the light switch to turn off the lights. It was still a bit dim from the lamp in the corner, but I'll just direct Kageyama away from there.
"Cancer is.. horrible" Mom spoke quietly and gently, walking to Natsu and taking her from my dads arms. "It means Kageyama-San is very ill, and now he needs our help" she explained it as simply as she could for Natsu, who was still just so little.
Natsu grinned widely, giggling, "alright! So we're superheroes!" She gasped with excitement, flapping her arms like she could fly. Mom laughed and nodded. "Yes, that means we all have to stay very quiet, and keep the lights down alright Natsu?" My mom kissed her cheek as Natsu nodded quickly, pulling her hands to her mouth. "And that's the same for you Hiro," my mom directed to my father, laughing softly. Dad rolled his eyes, chuckling. "Well, sorry Aki, I'll be good" he returned the comment, both talking to each other with their first names. Me and Natsu giggled quietly as I sighed. "Okay everyone just stay quiet and I'm going to bring in Kageyama, okay?" I asked, walking to the door.
"Okay!" My little sister and father screamed as my mom shushed them automatically. I smiled, opening the oak wood door as I saw Kageyama leaning against the porches railing. I walked to him, taking his hands before smiling a little. "Common Bakayama~" I purred softly as the slender male shuffled in after me, tumbling a bit over the welcome mat. "H-h-...Hello.." he muttered, his cheeks rosy with embarrassment. I smiled, holding his arm over my shoulders in case if he had to lean on me.
"Hello Kageyama~San!" Natsu screamed as My father and mother quickly darted their heads to her, placing their fingers to their lips to signal silence. Tobio gently winced as his body needed a bit more support from me so I straighten my back, helping him a bit. "I'm sorry, Kageyama~San, she loves guests." My mom explained soothingly to Kageyama, walking to him with her eyes wide.
My parents and sister couldn't remove their eyes from Tobio's face. "Honey, do you need some ice?" She asked, getting closer to Kageyama until his face flared with redness, getting a bit of anxiety it seemed. I sneakily grabbed his hand, feeling his grip return felt wonderful. Hopefully it felt the same to him.
"I-its alright.." he managed to speak as mom placed her finger gently to his blackened eye, feeling the rising surface of skin that had been bruised. Kageyama flinched like a beaten dog as he bit his lip.
Mom sighed, frowning. "I'll get some ice," she went to the kitchen with no sound at all as he continued to sway softly, trying to stay still.
"Hey, Tobio, is it? Uh, who did that too you? Aren't you ill?" Dad asked, lifting Natsu up from the floor to hold her in his arms. Tobio looked to me, a slight patch of discomfort lied there in his eyes as he cleared his throat. "M-my dad.." he mumbled, looking to the floor as my dad's eyes shot open. "I'm sorry kiddo, you can stay here as long as you need" Dad patted Kageyama's back, smiling a big, wide grin as Kageyama laughed forcefully, his hand tightening around mine. "T-thank you" he stuttered as Natsu giggled. "You are welcome Yama~chan" Natsu whispered. The stupid nickname made Kageyama smile a little.
Now that I think about it, the only person I met from his family was his dad... and that was just today... where's his mom? Does he have any siblings? Is he the only child? I'm so confused..
As I was swimming through my thoughts, I heard the floor boards creak and my mom walk around from the corner. "Here, Kageyama~San. Apply a little bit of pressure but don't let the ice directly hit your skin, okay?" She had to clarify it as he nodded, lifting the ice and pressing it against his eye while having a paper towel held around the ice. "T-thanks" he muttered, still holding my hand and holding the ice to his eye with the other. "No worries sweetheart, my name is Aki, my husbands name is Hiro, and our youngest daughter is Natsu." My mom introduced my family, but my sister crossed her arms, her face in a snarl. "Um. It's princess Natsu mama!" Natsu pouted through a shout as Kageyama bit his lip through the noise. My mom quickly nodded, shushing her. "Y-yes. Princess Natsu I'm sorry" she said quickly, just to quiet her down.
Natsu nodded quickly as my father chuckled. "Well, you two should rest, Shouyo, you have school tomorrow," my mom chimed in as I shook my head. "No, I'm going to the doctors with Kageyama," I stated, quickly taking a glance to Kageyama. Man, he looked exhausted. My mom sighed, shaking her head. "But Shouyo, you can't miss school, you were absent a whole week when you wanted to watch that marathon on the television" she crossed her arms with a raised eyebrow. I felt my cheeks fog up pink as I witnessed Kageyama pass a small chuckle. It sucks that she said that in front of him, I told him I had the flu, and yeah, that was a big fat lie.
"B-but mom, he wants me to, right Kageyama?" I asked, looking up at him as he nodded shallowly. Mom saw Kageyama's eyes, they shined with weakness and a desperate calling. Mom sighed, nodding. "Alright, you can stay home with Kageyama for the week, then you have to start getting back to school" she commanded as I jumped up, almost hitting my head on the ceiling. "Thank you!" I yelped, being a bit to loud so I lowered my voice. She nodded, ruffling my hair up roughly then tussling Kageyama's hair up softly, to try and not hurt his head.
"Okay boys, get to bed. Sleep as late as you want, we will wake you up when it hits the time of the doctors visit. What's the time that you have to be there Kageyama-San?" Mom questioned, causing Kageyama to clear his throat. "12:37, pm" he spoke back , his eyes pretty much closing on themselves. She nodded, smiling. "Alright you two, go to bed" she said, taking Natsu from dad and grinning. I grinned back as Kageyama smiled back softly. "Wow, you're not to great with people, " I sighed, shaking my head as I guided him to my bedroom down the hall. He scoffed and looked to the side. "Well, I'm not used to it," he retorted. I sighed and nodded. "True, true, " I mumbled before I quietly pulled open my door, revealing my room with just the nightlap on. I helped him inside, letting him sit on the end of the bed as I started to dismantle the pillows from the comforters, pushing the sheets down.
As I was pushing pillows back up against the headboard, I smiled. "You're going to be sleeping with me, Kageyama," I laughed, fluffing up a pillow before he looked back at me, his eyes a bit slimmed. "I can sleep on the floor," he rasped, standing a bit before falling back onto the bed. I shook my head, finally finishing up with the covers as I slid in the covers on the side close to the edge as I yanked Kageyama to lay down besides me. I pulled up the covers up to cover our bodies as I went to lay on my side, seeing him shut his eyes quickly, remaining to lay on his backside.
I closed my eyes as well, clamping them shut but AGH! I'm so curious about Tobio's family!
"Hey... Kageyama?.." I called over quietly.
"Hm?" One of his navy blue eyes peeled open to glance over at me, his face stone cold except for his cheeks which were dusted pink and the ice pack laying on his other eye.
"Where's your mom?.." I asked while under the covers I took his hand and held it tightly.
He seemed to become tense as he shut his eyes quickly. "Just sleep Shouyo.." he muttered, his visible eye was tightly shut.
I frowned and sighed. "No, You have to tell me Kageyama, I won't let you sleep until you do, I'll.... I'll----" I tried to finish up my sentence until I felt my blood rush cold, hearing Kageyama speak out this one sentence:
"She died....My father.... he killed her.."
My eyes were widened as I swallowed loudly. "W-what did he do?..." I asked, his face scrunching up as he pulled his ice pack away from his eyes. Tobio started to tremble as his shaken hands dispatched from my palm and traveled upward to cover his eyes that soon started to leak tears.
"H-he just, killed her.... he got a blade from the kitchen and charged at me, trying to slit my throat but my mother got in the way, getting herself stabbed... it should have been me.." he shakily told me, tears rushing down his bruised cheeks as I stayed still. I shouldn't have pushed him this far, I hated to see him cry, I never really ever saw him cry but when I do, it hurts too much..
"It's not your fault, it's how fate is... if you would have died, it wouldn't have been better. We all love you Tobio, I'm sorry, get some rest" I pulled up, kissing his wet cheek before stroking his hair out of his face and closing my eyes. Kageyama's eyes shut too before he let out a small breath of air. "Y-yeah.. good night..." and with that, we both soon fell asleep quickly, together.
