Chapter 9

3:18pm.

"Hello!" Carla greeted her seemingly empty home while closing the door behind herself.

"In here!" Someone ended up replying as she put down her purse momentarily.

Walking further inside, the young woman saw her spouse sitting on the couch, watching basketball on their flat screen TV. He turned turned around to see his wife coming towards him, "hey Carls."

"Don't call me that," Carla retorted, flopping on the soft sofa, "why must we live with conflict?"

"Because people have different opinions and because of that, it may cause drama." Daniel answered truthfully.

"It was rhetorical Danny," Carla told him, "Mom always thinks she can do whatever she wants and everyone is just supposed to follow her commands."

"Well she can, she is-"

"I'm aware, but we're her kids. And not only that, we're adults now. Savannah needs to be out there in the world without restrictions." Carla interrupted him.

"I know, but we know how stubborn she is." Daniel agreed with his wife.

"I tried to reason with her, but it goes in one ear and out the other," Carla replied, with Daniel sympathetically looking at her, "it's like war without war. I wish it would all just stop," a buzzing noise stopped her. Carla saw that it was her phone and picked it up, "crap, I forgot about the meeting for the reconstruction. I'll see you at seven."

Savannah's mother quickly hopped off of the couch, adjusted her outfit, walked over to grab her purse, and left the house. Daniel turned off the television afterwards, standing up and preparing himself to take care of the rest of the work.

He was conflicted, learning about a new villain was not usually this difficult. Each one belonged to the main squad and could be destroyed within a day or two. Now things were different. In a month or so, graduation would rear its head and come calling. It's insane to picture how far he had come from where he began. The switching between homes and constant drama that still had scarred him to this day. In a way, it had added to who he was today and things probably wouldn't of turned out the way they did if it weren't for his past. Come to think of it, they all have come a long way.
Nearing the end was nerve racking. Luckily for these teens, they have someone more frightening to soak up their time. Hard to imagine that instead of focusing on college or how to make your mark on your school before you leave, you have to make sure you survive. This wasn't the typical monster of the week ritual. One guy, massive army, and no guarentee of a victory.
Walking towards the beach, Troy stood by his previous statement. Gia was one for good ideas and this one was no exception. However, would it work? Could they get away with it? That depends on how gullible the city is. And judging by recent events, the plan didn't seem all that bad. Temporary solution, but it's not as if they had any other ideas.
As he headed for the base, a buzz rang from his pocket. The red ranger looked down and pulled out his device. Seeing the Caller ID had him heated. Only inches away from the beach, why did he have to call him and disturb his life? If he declined, then there's a chance of an outcome he didn't want. Though accepting the call meant reminding him of the situation he so desperately tried to get himself out of.

'Shit.' Troy thought.

The ringing had gone on for a minute or two before stopping, making the lone wolf silently sigh in relief. He started walking again, until his phone went off again.

'What the fu...dang.' Troy mentally dreaded, both surprised and peeved the same person tried again.

Reluctantly, he answered the call and put the phone up to his ear.

"Do you have a calendar or did you forget on purpose?" The caller greeted ever so graciously, his voice low and aggressive, "I don't know what the hell you've been doing because this case is going south. You better be with Jerry right now figuring something out."

"Jerry isn't here, so I'm happy to say that you have no chance of leaving that hell hole. It's no surprise you ended up there anyway." Troy spatted coldly.

"Hey, you're the reason I'm in here you demon! You ruined my life!" His caller immediately quarreled back, "You're lucky I let you breathe."

"I never needed you, Mom would've been enough." Troy snapped, "But you made sure that couldn't happen by letting me suffer, thanks for that."

"Oh spare me the sob story, I don't wanna hear that shit. Just bust me out and we'll split ways alright? I can't stand to look at your face anyways." The man retorted.

"Well you won't have to as long as you stay put. Have fun living your days where you belong, alone." Troy happily told him before trying to hang up. Key word, trying.

"Stop acting like a little bitch. You did this to me! Don't think I can't come up there and crush you!" The older man shouted.

"I'm not the same little kid I was years ago! You can try until you die, but you don't scare me anymore!" Troy lashed out, "So go to hell!"

"Don't you-"

"GO TO HELL!" Troy barked, now riled up.

He hung up the phone afterwards, despising any conversation he has with that prisoner. The Scar-incarnate as he would describe him. Taking a deep breath to calm himself down, the leader of the team was about to start walking again until he heard someone yell, "Troy?!"

He looked to his left and saw two people sitting in the sand, turned backwards to stare at him. He realized then that the argument was seen by them, which made him worried.

"He had to tick me off.' Troy mentally scolded. Thankfully, he could cover up his emotions with ease by casually making his way over to the two familiar faces to ask, "Hey guys, what's up?"

"Why were you yelling over the phone?" Gia asked.

"Oh that? It was just something I had to handle," Troy told her nonchalantly, "It's nothing," Jake and Gia shared a glance, curious and concerned, "So uh, what are you two doing out here?"

"We needed to talk," Jake retorted while his girlfriend flashed a smile at him, "but that sounded serious. You sure everything's okay man?"

"Yeah I'm sure, don't worry about it," Troy reassured his pal, yet all it did was worry him further, "Now don't forget to pack, we leave soon."

The two rangers nodded and watched their leader head to the Command Center, wondering about what he was hiding.
