Chapter 39 Rescue

Hannah's Point of View

Hermione and Draco took there places as Hermione said, "It's time." We all rushed to the door eager to save Ron but slightly nervous about the mission, as we were calling it, ahead. We knew that a few of us were going to be guards ad only help if needed. I was one of those guards I felt honored. Though I mostly felt honored for even being brought along. In reality we only three or four people to go not nine, but Harry felt we should all be part of this. Even though Neville had objected earlier to such a large group Harry had stood firm and insisted on all of us going. I was frightened by the daunting mission ahead but I am ready to tackle it. We stood in the formation we had when doing the bind, so as to make us as strong as possible, though the position already felt natural to me, which I didn't like much. We were walking, I realized, through halls filled with teachers and ghosts though no one was saying a word, not the teachers not the ghosts and none of my friends. I slowly walked to Harry. He looked at me casually before speaking into my mind like all others could do to any of us at anytime.  What is it Hannah?  He didn't sound upset or mad just curious.  I just thought that maybe no one had noticed but no one is stopping us or talking or raising an alarm. Harry smiled. Hannah did you seriously think that I would have made plans without talking to someone first. I smiled shyly. I'm so stupid aren't I. Harry's face turned serious. I don't think you're stupid I was just pointing it out. I smiled. That's all. I said starting to turn away. Wait, Hannah, thank you. I nodded and walked away. He broke the contact with me and looked at Ginny to continue talking to her. I realized that everyone was answering and keeping the link, I was the only one left out. Thanks Harry, I thought sarcastically. I made a link with Neville and he hooked me into the link that was going on so as to not leave me out.

We all continued talking together until we go to the place to get Ron. Ginny led the way and we dropped through a tunnel. I saw Harry and Ginny shiver before they jumped down the tunnel. I jumped down the tunnel and the rest followed. I slid and moved, it would be fun if they added water. I was sure that everyone else had just as much fun, because when we all got down there we were jumbled in a heap laughing. I was certain that Ginny and Harry looked haunted by bad memories. "Guys I know why we couldn't Blaise and the rest of them," Harry said. "Why?" All of us but Ginny asked together. "Because this is the Chamber of Secrets." Everyone gasped at Ginny's hoarse voice. "This is the Chamber of Secrets." The laughter died as Hermione spoke. I couldn't believe it. We all walked in solemnly silence thinking of the dreaded things Harry had told us and Hermione's yelling a couple of weeks ago. I walked ahead with Harry and Ginny thinking. I tapped Ginny and she looked at me and nodded letting me into their conversation. We talked about the plan and went over my job as head guard. I talked to them about the call that I would send if there was trouble. We stopped talking two feet before the final turn. Everyone was told the call for trouble and that they were to listen to me about guard duty. Ginny, Luna, Harry and Draco were going to rescue Ron. Before they left Hermione said, "I'm not staying on guard duty Harry take me as well, I can handle it." Harry's jaw quivered, "Hermione I can barely walk in here after what happened before. I can't take anyone in here, even though I know that there isn't a basilisk." Ginny smacked her forehead, we all looked at here, "D**m I heard a snake that should have been a tip-off, Harry I think there is another one, or more small  snakes." "Of couse," Draco cut in, "Blaise had snakes released to scare people and to honor Slytherin. It was a dare we used to do, if you honored Slytherin the snake could be whatever you wanted it to be, he wanted it to be a small snake in the day and a guard at night." "S**t," I swore, "that means this is going to be harder than I thought." "Agreed," the rest said. "We completely underestimated them, that means this is going to be harder than we thought," Harry looked at Hermione and I saw that they spoke in their heads without anyone else, "Fine Hermione come on, don't make me regret this." Everyone was stunned. "Let's go," Ginny said leading the way.

"Come on guys practiced positions okay." Everyone moved into position. I found a good lookout position and we all waited, tense, to see if anyone else would come. I was ready to send the call if needed, hopefully it wouldn't come to that. I thought I saw something in the shadows but when I asked Neville, who was closest to the place I'd seen the shadow, and he said that he'd not seen anything. I was waiting and saw something close to Pansy, I asked her but she hadn't seen anything. I didn't move but I watched to see if something moved past Ernie next and they did. That left me for the thing to pass. I held my wand tighter and then I heard something, a whoosh, I looked around frantically. The thing was baiting me no one else I was the only one able to see the thing. I groaned great. No one noticed me looking around. I was waiting for the thing to move on me. I heard the voice before I saw the person, "Well, Well, Well, we are back did you miss us." I whirled but the speaker was gone replaced by a new voice behind me, "We are happy to see that there are only four of you as there are four of us." I whirled then a voice spoke beside me, this was getting crazy, how was I not seeing them, "Hello, I know you strange little Hufflepuff." I tried to spin fast but the speaker was gone. The final voice was to my other side, "We are ready to fight, Basilisk." I couldn't speak, not yet. Then all the speakers in order, Blaise, Astoria, Crabbe and finally Goyle, appeared in front of me. I was ready to scream the call.

About ten minutes after we went in to find Ron we heard a shrill Owl's hoot. I asked everyone and they heard it too. We had to hurry. The others were in trouble and we needed to hurry. I was waiting for Harry to say something but then he heard the others fighting back and diverted from the path to go fight. Hermione, Luna, Draco and I ran after him.

I hoped that Ginny and the other's had enough sense to stay out of the way and rescue Ron, leaving Blaise and the rest of them to us. But of course they didn't. Harry ran into the room with the rest of them at his heels. I knew that the only reason they had come was because Harry had. It was Harry's fault not that I blame him we need the help. I just hoped he would come in silently and take Blaise and the others out quietly that went down the drain too. "Blaise," Harry yelled as Hermione, Luna, Ginny and Draco smacked their foreheads with their palms at Harry's stupidity. Blaise turned the shadows throwing his face into ugly highlights, "What do you want slayer of gods." Harry stopped, Idiot, I thought, Wait did Blaise say slayer of gods, I want to hear this. "Slayer of gods, I've never slayed anyone but Voldemort," Harry said dumbly. "I know but he was a god. He would have ruled the world, gotten rid of muggles and filthy mudbloods alike." Hermione growled she really didn't like the word mudblood, "He would have gotten rid of those who defied him." Blaise grinned and I saw what was going to happen before it happened. "Shut it Blaise," it was Ginny, great she needed to stay hidden since she was still supposed to be captured. Blaise whirled, "Could it be that you escaped is that why they are here to save you."  Ginny, still holding her wand, shot a spell at Blaise with a crazed look in her eyes, without the red hair she could have passed for Bellatrix Lestrange. The spell sounded like a whip in the quiet room.  Blaise flicked his wand, lazily, to deflect the spell. Like that Ginny and Blaise were dueling to the death. No one moved for a second.

Then the lull in the air was gone and Hermione charged Astoria to take her down muggle style. Luna covered her with a wand. Harry saw Crabbe sneaking away so he left to take care of him. Neville followed. Draco saw Goyle and he shouted a spell. Everyone was dueling except for, Pansy, Ernie, and myself. We watched for an opening Pansy found one quickly. Hermione was not doing very good and Luna couldn't help for fear of hitting Hermione. Pansy ran over and took Hermione's place, she was going to beat Astoria down, muggle style. Ernie was watching. He and I looked at each other we had a choice, go get Ron so the mission wouldn't be an entire bust or not and leave him here until we can stop Blaise. We stared for a moment and left to go get Ron if we pulled this off well we would be home-free.

We slipped away from the fights only to find our way barred by someone new. It wasn't a person it was a Basilisk Ernie and I turned away and ran. Hermione, Luna and Pansy followed. As did Harry, Neville and Draco. The only person left was Ginny and she wasn't leaving. Blaise was though, "COWARD," Ginny shouted after him as he walked away, "COME BACK AND FIGHT YOU TWO FACED BASTARD!" "Ginny calm down," Harry said, "Come on we have to leave." "I'm not leaving without Ron," Ginny said. "We have to we will get him back soon Ginny soon." Ginny nodded tears running down her face. We walked back up the tunnel and out into the girl's bathroom we needed to tell the teachers but apparently that wasn't happening.
