Chapter Six
The band had just finished their last song with one last cannon and a goodnight. They came backstage all of them tired and sweaty, but none so much as Angus. The man had just played a two hour show, running his legs off. He immediately went to one of the couches they kept back there and someone handed him a water bottle while another gave him a towel.
He chugged the water down and glanced around. He saw Mike the new guy pinning someone against the wall. Already gettin' his kicks. Then he looked again and saw that said kicks was Hannah. Angus remembered how much she hated that kind of contact. He still didn't know why, frankly neither did she, but Mike had no clue. He had to get her away from him. But he couldn't just interrupt, unless he sent a roadie to do it for him.
"Hey McKinney," he called the man over. Matthew McKinney used to live on their street in Sydney. Old friend. He came over with a cigarette in his mouth and handed the box to Angus. He took one and leaned back on the couch. "Listen," he panted. "Can you call Hannah over? I need to talk to her, that's her over there." He pointed to the pair.
"Ya' sure Young? She looks a bit busy." Angus shook his head.
"No, I'm sure, just get her over here."
"Why don't you ask her yourself? I'm sure she'd appreciate it."
"Come on Mick, I don't want to seem too obvious." McKinney scoffed and went over to the two.
"Miss Hannah? Angus wants to see you."
I leaned away from Mike, thankful Angus got me out of this even if it was just pure luck. Mike didn't let me go so easily. "I should go see what he wants."
"He doesn't need to see you right now, we were in the middle of something." He leaned in again and I ducked out of his arms.
"He's my friend, I'm gonna talk to him." I followed the person who called me to the couch and sat by Angus. His hair was a mess, a towel lay across his neck and he was fiddling with his tie he took off during his-'time to shine'.
"Here you go Angus," the roadie said.
"Thanks Mick." Angus took a big drink of water then poured the rest of the water on his head. Giving me a sly look he shook his head like a dog, getting me all wet.
"Hey!"
"What, it's just water," he laughed.
"And sweat." I wiped myself off. "You wanted to see me?"
"Yeah. Thanks for coming, you weren't busy were you?" I looked behind us to see Mike looking at me, give Angus a sort of glare, then walk off.
"No, not really."
"Hey, you okay? Seemed a bit down."
"Hmm? I'm fine, just tired."
"You're tired?" He smiled. "I must be dead then."
"Alive enough to shake your sweat on me," I smiled back.
"Oh that's just the start of it." He set his water bottle down and made a grab for me but I jumped away. "What's wrong?"
"What are you doing?" Angus stood and came after me.
"Jus' wanna give you a hug. Come on then," he said holding his arms out. I tried to run around him but he stepped in my way. He was tired, I could escape him, but the couch was blocking my way. I ran to the side to squeeze my way out but he grabbed me from behind and hugged me. He held tightly despite my squirming, and I could feel his sweat dampen my shirt.
"I thought you wanted to talk."
"I do. I can talk from here," he said in my ear.
"Hey Angus, we've got to get back to the hotel soon," Malcolm said handing his brother his shirt and hat.
"What about our stuff here?"
"The roadies got it, we've got to get to bed. Separate beds mind you," he winked at me. I laughed knowing Malcolm's jokes.
"Piss off Mal," Angus said but I could tell he was smiling.
Back at the hotel Phil's room had a leak in it so he slept in Angus and I's room. He also let me have the bed, but there was no way those two would share the couch.
"No thanks mate, you can have the floor," Angus said leaving to take a shower. Phil sat on a chair and stared at the ceiling.
"So you and Ang together yet?" he asked.
"What? No!"
"Just askin'," he smiled.
"That's not really an option Ruddy, he's married."
"Still fancies ya'."
"I know that, I even feel the same, but due to circumstances, it's not gonna happen."
"I hear ya'. Change of subject, you're gonna come the whole tour?"
"Hopefully. Unless I leave again before it's over. This is probably my last time, you know, time traveling."
"What makes you say that?"
"Well, I'm born in three years, if I time traveled again after this there would be two of me in the world."
"Man this is it, isn't it?"
"Hopefully not, but we'll see."
