Chapter 12
I hum along to the song playing, trying to paint the sky a dark blue, splattering flecks of white against the blue tones. Thin, wispy clouds drift slowly across the wide expanse, nothing hindering their paths.
A soft voice carries through the silent plains that had yet to be detailed beyond the soft grasses that drift and float with the breeze. Words had yet to form from their breath, and I sigh sadly. It was somehow always easy to regret the pain I had created for my characters.
"I should have never gone back, I should have known the love I felt in her arms was an illusion," the words formed as they tilted their head back, blinking to hold back their tears.
"How were you supposed to know? How were you supposed to know that she wouldn't care?" The second voice is softer, more gentle than the first.
"Because she said she cared the first time too. She said she cared and she held me close and told me she loved me and then, then she just... she just left."
"She wanted you to beg her to stay, she wanted you to be like Amy and beg her, to shower her with love even when she said she didn't want to talk to you," the second hums sadly, rubbing soft circles on the first's shoulder.
"I didn't want her to leave."
"And you didn't want to beg because you knew you deserved better than to beg for someone to stay."
"I thought that maybe the second time would go better. She said she cared, that she loved me."
"And then proceeded to practically ghost you for three months."
"We talked a few times..."
"Almost all of those convos were initiated by you, she even ignored you once."
"It was late and she said she was on a call with her boyfriend!"
"All you said was hi, she couldn't stop for a second to say hi back? She didn't care, Willow, I'm sorry but if she tries to say she didn't have time to talk to you but she had time to facetime her boyfriend almost every day and watch a movie with her dog then she didn't care."
"She said she forgot," Willow's voice was shaky at best, you could easily hear how close her voice was from breaking, how close she was to breaking.
"Forgot to message you when she said she missed you and cared about you oh-so-much? You don't forget about the people you care about."
"She was really stressed about school."
"Those are just excuses, I'm telling you it's all an excuse. She's only interested in talking to you when it's convenient, she's the one who wanted to be friends, to be close again and you are putting in way more effort than her. Why should you put so much more effort into a relationship you didn't ask for?"
I shudder, losing concentration as a headache hits hard. I resort to closing the doc, feeling the black slowly creeping back in and desire to write fades away.
