Here it is another chapter.
Go ahead and enjoy...
************
"I know it is...." Catherine said as she trailed off not knowing what else to say anymore.
Her hand shook, she looked down silent tears slipped from her eyes. She does not know what to do anymore. Catherine never thought Jane would react this way. How could a mother push her own son away like this?
Jane was so warm to her then why not to her son? She feels choked on her breath.
"Why?" Jeremy grit his teeth as a tear trailed from his eyes.
He is hurt, Catherine looked down for bit.
"Why did you tell her that?" Jeremy breath out.
"What are you playing at? What the fuck are you trying to do? Is this some kind of fucking joke?" He yelled slamming his hand on the hood of the car making her almost jump in the process.
Jeremy pressed against her, almost forgetting that she was pregnant.
"Jeremy" Catherine tried to push him away. Her breath hitched when he grabbed her hands with his one hand caging her from behind, even more than before.
She can feel his hand tightening almost painfully.
"Who is the father?" He asked her coldly.
"Tell me who is the father?" Jeremy asked her again. Catherine stared at him hurt as another tear trailed down her face.
"I asked you who the fuck is the father of this bastard" Jeremy said, her heart shattered, Catherine whimpered pushing him with all her might.
Slap
Catherine snatched her hand and slapped him, her hand working on it's own. She won't let anyone bad mouth their baby. Not even their own father.
This might be the first time she ever slapped him.
"I told you. You are the father but you don't want to believe it"
"So, Don't you dare call our baby that?" Catherine yelled at him for the first time. Jeremy was taken back. Her eyes filled with angry tears.
"Why can't I?" He mocked her.
Another tight slap resounded on the empty street..Catherine slapped him right across his face.
"Because it is your baby too" Catherine pushed him.
"You cannot bad mouth our own child. I won't allow it. Do you hear me I won't?" She yelled her body shook with tremor. Her shaky hand pushed him again even though he did not bulge from his place.
That only makes him angrier "Our baby? Our baby? Are you fucking kidding me?"
"Have I ever touched you like that?" Jeremy grit his eyes glaring at her.
"Did you think I forget what you did?" Jeremy asked. Catherine flinched at his words.
"I will never father a child, not with you. Never! I hate you" Jeremy growled at her, grabbing her elbow and shaking her harshly.
Catherine's eyes widened in protest as the anger she felt washed away. She felt drained. Tears dried long ago. She did not know how could she cry this much? She slumped down on the car hood.
"Do you really think I would betray Coltrane for you?" Jeremy breathed harshly.
He cannot control his anger which he felt for many years. The angst, the pain, the hurt, the betrayal came out now after all this time.
Jeremy knows that he will regret it later. His emotions are all messed up when his mother refuses to see him for her. His mother, the woman who gave up everything to bring him up when his father threw her out of his life for a rich woman. Jane dedicated her life and her youth to him. He can't forget nor forgive anyone hurting her.
But this is not the only reason for his behaviour; it was because Catherine is pregnant. If this is his child, which is not possible, than that means Jeremy betrayed his best friend. He, who hated the word betrayal, will be considered as the biggest hypocrite.
After what happened to his mother, Jeremy despised anyone cheating or anything cheating related. That's the reason he always chooses to fight the cases personally where betrayal is prominent. He will never forgive Catherine nor forgive himself if he actually did something like that.
Jeremy knows this will be a long term hurtful relation where he will hurt her as well as himself. The child who will get involved between them will take most brunt of their mistake. This child will be stuck in a miserable relationship.
Jeremy will never be able to love the baby. It will only be his responsibility to take care of the baby. But he cannot do this to his own child.
If this was a random situation where a girl told him she was pregnant, he might have waited 9 months and taken care of her, marrying her and trying to love her. But in this case the woman was his best friend's fiancee. Jeremy felt repulsed from inside. He cannot acknowledge the fact which will come out if she is telling the truth.
"Why are you lying? Catherine" He sounds like a broken radio, repeating the same words again and again.
Jeremy might have felt a momentary happiness when Catherine was not the bride but he was ready for that. He has prepared himself to get through it and never meet them ever again. But now he wished Catherine was the one who said ,'I do'. So, Jeremy can get over all of this at once.
His heart might have been broken but is not it already broken into million pieces till this day he is trying to collect those pieces and put it back.
"Jeremy" Catherine called him softly. She can see him having an internal battle with himself. She is afraid which side will win.
Jeremy was motionless for a while now. His eyes looking at nowhere settled on nothing.
Catherine can easily push him away if she wants but the grip on her hand reassures her, he is there standing in front of her. Her hand extended but she stopped herself.
Catherine can feel his body warmth but cannot touch him. She is just a woman for him now, a woman who was supposed to marry his best friend.
There was a time when Jeremy did anything to make her smile just like yesterday. Her eyes stung when their life became so complicated.
Catherine wanted to cry but knowing that she is the reason, she felt guilt.
She felt hurt but it was her fault, she couldn't choose Coltrane even though she tried. Her heart will always belong to Jeremy whether he believes it or not. She acted cold at that time because if she did not her mother would have destroyed his life.
She hurt him, she chose to leave him when he needed her the most. Catherine told him, she can never love a bastard like him. Jeremy will never see her in any light other than that he swears at that moment . He still remembers that day.
"I am sorry" Catherine whispered as a tear trailed down her eyes this time. She knows he is hurting, his mother the only person who loved him unconditionally refused to hear from him and his hurt coming out as anger, she understood. But the Jeremy she knows would have stated clearly that he is hurt.
He would never hurt others. His eyes blazing with anger. The agony she is feeling right now cannot compare to what he is going through. It was her fault again.
Jeremy pushed her against the car, "I have an idea" he hissed at her.
Catherine bite her lips. Her heart dropped to her stomach. She can feel something bad is going to happen. Her hands instinctively wrapped around her stomach.
Jeremy instantly grabbed her waist softly before caging her again. He dangerously lowered his face until his lip grazed her ears.
Catherine looked at Jeremy only to froze, his eyes have a cold dark look. She shivered," You are going to abort the baby" her eyes widened. Her heart beat increases at a rapid speed.
"This will solve our problem" Jeremy said standing up straight. Without looking at her, he took out his phone and dialed a number, "I want an appointment for today,I can come now" he stared at her as he talked on the phone.
Catherine stood still motionless as if her motor never failed to process his words. Never in her life she thought Jeremy could be this cold and unfeeling.
"Book it tomorrow then. Alright I will be there at 11 a.m." that breaks her trance.
"Are you listening to yourself?" Catherine asked, choking on her breath.
"Let's rectify this mistake once and for all '' Jeremy's finger gazed at her cheeks softly cupping her face.
"No. Never" Catherine struggled pushing him as hard as she could.
"Let me go" She screamed tears fall from her eyes helplessly as he held her tight not giving her an inch to move.
"Let me go" Catherine would not give up. From the very beginning of her life she had to give up everything she loved to satisfy her mother. Giving up her dreams, her happiness, her love, everything she held dear but in this case it is her baby, it is their baby.
Catherine can fight with anyone to protect her baby even though her heart breaks into million pieces.
"Don't do this to me please" She pleaded, choking on her tears. Sobs wrecked through her body.
"It is our baby, Right Catherine?" Jeremy said coldly. Catherine nodded her head horrified at what he said next.
"But I don't want it" his cold mechanical voice breaks something inside her.
"It's alright. It's alright if you don't want it, I will take responsibility. There is no need for you......" Catherine trailed off looking down for a moment. It was like see was leaving in the nightmare again. Her eyes looking at nowhere, she was shaking, almost hyperventilating.
Jeremy can feel her shaking which snapped him from drawing in the dark thoughts.
"Catherine" he grabbed her cheeks lifting her head. Her pale face parted lips, tears streamed down her cheeks, eyes closed.
"Breathe" Jeremy yelled at her, she blinked. She pushed him, turning around she ran. Jeremy grabbed her.
Catherine struggled coming back to sense.
"I will not" She pushed him with all her might. Tears fall from her eyes. She felt beyond hurt at his words.
"I will not give up on our baby. Do you hear me? I will never give up on our baby" Catherine choked his grip slacked. Jeremy was shocked at how she emphasized that this is their baby.
Catherine took the opportunity, turning away from him.
"Where are you going?" Jeremy asked grabbing her hand to stop but she snatched her hand, running as fast as she could. He sprinted behind. When she sees him following her. She rushed to cross the road.
Jeremy ran after her, the bypassing car missed her by an inch.Catherine crunch down on the middle of the road. He grabbed her hand and dragged her.
"Are you out of your fucking mind?" Jeremy yells at her and his grip only tightens.
"What were you trying to do?" Catherine sobed, her heart beat increases and she can feel herself shaking.
That's when he saw Cassandra. He dragged her with him to reach the shop.
**********
Cassandra listened to his story, her hand itching to slap him across his face. And that's what she did. Jeremy was shocked beyond belief. He looked at her wide eyes.
"You have no right to decide whether she wants the baby or not?" Cassandra glared at him.
"I know," Jeremy said as a guilty crunch in his stomach. Now that his anger has reasonably calmed down, he noticed what he did..
"If you don't want to do anything with her or the baby. You can get the fuck out of here" Cassandra yelled at him. She did not know why she was reacting this way. She never put her in Catherine's life. But her inside burnt when Jeremy said he asked her to abort the baby or was it because he called it a mistake. She knows better than anyone how it feels to be called mistake by your own father. A bitterness filled her.
Jeremy closed his eyes, the intense hurt he felt returned again, "You don't know how I feel damn it?". He was at his limit too. Exhausted broken beyond repair.
Why can't she understand that?
"How do you feel then?" Cassandra mocked him, glaring at him.
"I feel guilty. I feel like, I betrayed my own fucking best friend" Jeremy tell her something he was having difficulty in saying from the beginning
"I betrayed Coltrane. He is more of a brother to me" Cassandra kept quiet and let him say whatever he wants.
"I always hated cheaters. Now look at me" Jeremy stared ahead as tear slip from his eyes.
Cassandra stayed silent not knowing how to reply.
"What are you going to do about your mother?" She asked after a while.
"I don't know," he sighed.
They stayed silent until he said something which he almost forgot in all this fiasco, "Do you know about your mother?"
"My mother?" She was confused by his words..
"Your real mother, she is alive" Jeremy said.
"Oh! " Cassandra exclaimed as if he was talking about the weather. She shrugged her shoulder non-coherently.
"Don't you want to meet her?" She shook her head.
"Why would I want to see the woman who abandoned me the day I was born?" Cassandra's words held years of hurt, pain, and what, he cannot put his finger but what he knows is that Cassandra became an expert to keep her emotions in check.
The bell rang, Cassandra rushed to open the door. Austin bargain in. He gives her a confused look when she points at the couch.
Austin checked her vitals.
"Which month is going on? How many times has she fainted?" He asked Jeremy.
"I don't know which trimester. But she fainted three times" Austin sighed a bit before checking her pulse and prescribed her some medicines.
"She need to take proper care of herself. And frequent fainting cannot be good, she has low blood pressure. If this continues not only the baby but mother's health will deteriorate. She needs proper health care, a healthy and happy environment otherwise she can choose to abort the baby for her health. Ms.Walmart needs regular health check up and a gynecologist consultant" Austin's voice sounds sharp and clear as he stated the facts.
Jeremy's hands tremble a bit..
"It will be alright," Cassandra said.
"You need to take her home. So, that she could rest but if we are going to force her to do something, she does not want to. Then it's better you leave Jeremy'' Cassandra said coldly.
Jeremy froze before he gathered Catherine in his arms turning back to Cassandra, "I will take care of her" he looked straight at her, who nodded her head. Jeremy then heads out.
"So, what was that?" Austin turned back to Cassandra as he noticed their exchange.
"Nothing, do you want some food?" Cassandra asked him, Austin happily nodded before eating the plate she served him.
"I am going to sleep, you can see yourself out after eating" Cassandra sighed sitting on the couch, lying down when her thoughts wander to him.
Is it because she knows how it felt to be betrayed by your own best friend?
Irony of the situation makes her chuckle. Cassandra shook her head.
She tossed and turned even when Austin bid her goodbye, telling her to rest.
Cassandra sits up not getting any sleep, it's already midnight. She grabs her car keys till wondering whether she should do what she wants or not?
After debating with herself for 15 minutes against her better judgment she decided to go.
Cassandra parked her car in front of his house for 5 minutes. Wandering whether she should enter or not. Someone knocked on her window. She lowered her glass window to look at the face of the guard who tried to stop her once. He looks uncomfortable.
"Open the gate" Cassandra told him, her voice cold and crips. He instinctively opened the gate for her. Even though it seems like he wants to say something.
Cassandra entered the house which was silent. She turns to see a young girl looking at her as if she had seen a ghost.
"Where is Coltrane?" She asked.
"Mr.Mayor is ............ " the girl fumbled a bit fidgeting her finger looking anywhere but her.
"What is it?" Cassandra raised her eyebrows, not getting why all of them were acting weird. Before it hit her, she sighed. What was she thinking? Asking them, she shakes her head.
Cassandra ignored them as they tried to stop her when she made her way towards his room. She opened the door, what she was not expecting was the site in front of her.
Never in her life she thought she would see this day.
