Chapter 59

Poppy's PoV

I still don't understand. Was that entire thing due to the fact I was pregnant? Naomi had gone crazy and actually hired people to help her play her mind games? To actually injure us? Now two people were hurt and the rest of us were scarred for life from what we had witnessed and felt during that time. Probably the least affected was me, managing to handle the blood and the trauma just as much as any other day at work - but the guns and the hostage taking, that'd take a while.
It was my turn to be gazing up at the ceiling, re-enacting the night and everything that had happened. Just as Calum had picked me over Naomi, Jack had burst in the door and taken one of the gunmen by surprise, causing him to press the trigger. The other was aimed at me but when Calum shoved Naomi, she got in the way of the crossfire. Suddenly, it was all hands on deck to try to save them despite Naomi being the one who caused it all. Jack wasn't looking too good, and at one point I lost him, but luckily the cpr worked and he went to hospital to get emergency surgery. Naomi was taken to a different hospital and was under the watch of a 24hr police presence.

"N-no." Calum's voice broke me from my thoughts as he tossed and turned in the bed, sweat forming on his brow as he had a nightmare. "Please don't hurt her." He continued, but I soothed him as he spoke hoping to change the course of the dream to one that was happier. "No!" Calum jumped and suddenly sat up, sweat dripping from him as he tried to catch his breath, his heart hammering in his chest. As soon as he realised he was in bed, he flopped down again, looking over at me in the dark. He sighed heavily.

"It's okay. It'll take a while." I said as Calum moved to cuddle up to me, his head resting on my chest. He let out a short flat laugh.

"I feel pathetic." He said, clearly angry with himself. "You are pregnant, you had a gun pointed at you, I nearly got you hurt and you had to save two people with gunshot wounds, yet I am having nightmares? Nothing even happened to me." He huffed as he turned over, clearly feeling the pressure of it all, slowly being added to with the lack of sleep.

"Didn't you worry for me? Fear for our baby?" I questioned, already knowing the answer. His head shot back to me.

"What kind of question is that? Of course I did!" He snapped defensively. I stroked the back of his hand.

"Well then. You have every right to have nightmares because you went through trauma and fear. Don't think you're not allowed to feel this way." I tried to reason with him. Calum let out one final breath as he realised I was right and finally turned back towards me, throwing an arm over my stomach.

"You're always helping. I admire you so much, wishing I could be more like you." He smiled. "You'll be an amazing mother." I placed a soft kiss on top of his head.

"And you will be a fantastic father. One who is open and honest, trusting and caring and fiercely protective." I said back quietly, speaking into his hair. "I love you." Calum was happy, smiling widely until it faded, a frown replacing it.

"How the hell did we end up in this mess? Naomi has truly come and screwed everything over." He said, exacerbating his already racing thoughts. "She tried to run you over because we were together, then she tried to shoot you when you were pregnant. God knows what she'd do if she turned up at our wedding..." he suddenly straightened. "The wedding! We can start planning it now if you want!" He was suddenly giddy with excitement.

"What? The wedding?" I was surprised that it had come up so suddenly.

"Yeah, I mean, unless you don't want to get married any more? Or you want to delay it?" Calum quizzed, wondering why I wasn't as eager as him.

"No, it's not that." I shooed the idea away. "It's just... well, did you want to marry me with a big bump? I mean we were looking at villas in Italy, by the time we finished touring and got married I'd be ready to drop."

"You mean around February 25th?" He said happily as he mentioned my due date. My stomach tightened with glee. "And don't be stupid, I'd marry you if you were dressed in a garbage sack." I acted shocked, gasping loudly.

"How did you know? Who leaked my wedding dress?" He let out a stupid laugh as he slapped me on the arm jokingly.

"You're an idiot." He joked.

"It takes one to know one." I retaliated, blowing a raspberry. The two of us burst into a fit of laughter, practically howling as we grabbed our stomachs, the muscles aching from working so hard. Once our laughter died down, we snuggled back into each other's arms.

"Seriously though, babe, I'll do whatever you want. If you want to hold off until after the baby is born that's fine. I've still got you all to myself no matter what." He spoke into my neck as he nuzzled into it, pecking it softly. I thought about it long and hard, would it be better to try and do it soon? Or wait until after the tour? Or after the baby? But that'd be forever away! There was nothing I wanted more than to tell people Calum was my husband, my significant other, to have and to hold through sickness and health until death do us part. He was my life. I think I'd just answered my own question.

"Let's do it." I said suddenly, taking him by surprise. He looked over to me with his eyes wide.

"What?"

"Let's get married. Before the baby is due. I want to make it official, I want the world to know you're mine. Let's do it by the end of the tour."
