Chapter 46

Poppy's PoV

Why did I agree to this?
I looked around the restaurant, my eyes connecting with many different faces that I felt weren't real diners. Something told me these people were paps, set up by Naomi. Was I being paranoid? Was I overthinking it? She was crazy enough to try to run me over so I really couldn't put anything past this woman. For some reason, Calum's excitement had made me hastily agree to this dumb plan but now, as we sat there together waiting for her to arrive, nerves were eating me up.

"Hey. It'll be okay." Calum soothed, putting his hand on my thigh and giving it a squeeze. Calum had put a recording device under the table which he had reserved for us to have lunch in and waited for Naomi to take the bait. Would she though? She was weirdly calculated when it came to her attempts to get Calum back. Would she even fall for it?

"It's not that. It's just... never mind." The bell dinged to signal that someone had entered the restaurant and I turned to look back, noticing Naomi and her growing baby bump. She offered me a half smile as she strutted in, still managing to wear heels and a skintight dress despite her bump. The moment she sat down at the table, my chest tightened, bringing back all the bad she had done in one fail swoop as I looked into her eyes. Was this really a good idea?

"Hey baby." She cooed at Calum, not bothering to greet me.

"I'm not your baby.." he said back sharply, looking over to me to check I wasn't upset already. Luckily for her, I'd prepared myself for everything she was going to throw to try to get Calum back and it was going to take a lot to upset me today.

"Whatever." She huffed. "Have you ordered?" She yanked a menu open and looked through the options.

"We thought we'd wait for you." I answered, making sure it looked like it was my decision so she couldn't go ogling Calum over how sweet he was. Naomi waved the waiter over without another word.

"Can I have the house special pasta?" She asked, pointing at it on the menu with a perfectly manicured nail. I looked down at my own nails and internally sighed, she definitely looked after herself better than I ever could. What did Calum even see in me?

"Can we have two super food bowls please?" Calum ordered for the both of us, trying to hint to Naomi that we were a couple. She seemed to ignore it. The waiter was quick to disappear off and bring a jug of water over with three cups. Naomi poured herself and Calum a glass of water but left me to do my own. Ignoring her childish game, I poured myself a glass and sipped it straight away, offering Calum a sweet smile as our eyes locked.

"So what did you call me here for?" Naomi got straight to business.

"Look, I know I'm not the innocent party here Nay." Calum said, using a nickname I hadn't heard before, which made me feel uncomfortable. I flinched as he said it, hoping she hadn't seen. "But you've been going to extremes. Is this all because you want me back?"

"You know it is, Cal." She smiled at him, her eyes gazing into his. "You know I'm better than her in every way." Did she actually just say that with me sitting right there? It's fine, Poppy. Stay calm.

"You tried to run Poppy over, you manipulated Luke, you set me up in the club to kiss you and you've been stalking me since we started this tour, not to mention constantly trying to turn my fans against Poppy. You released her illness to the world! Do you really think that would make me want to come back to you?" Silence ensued as Naomi caught sight of the waiter who quickly put all our food on the table and excused himself so that we could continue talking. She instantly grabbed a forkful of food and ate it, chewing sweetly as if she was still trying to look pretty whilst she ate.

"I need you back Calum. I know you miss me." She tried to reach over to him but he pulled his hands away from her and rest them in his lap.

"Naomi, I've told you numerous times, I'm with Poppy now. We're engaged, I love her. I don't want to get back with you!" I took a sip of my water to try to get through the awfully uncomfortable feeling at the table.

"That's not what you were saying when you were kissing me." She said bluntly, causing me to swallow my water in shock and begin to cough. I could see her smirking out the corner of my eye as I spluttered, my hand instantly coming up to my throat to make sure my wound was okay.

"You okay babe?" Calum asked, bringing a hand to my face and cupping my cheek.

"Does it matter? She's got cancer, she might not be around much longer." Naomi spat without a care for my feelings. Calum looked at her with disgust on his face.

"How dare you!" He snapped, slamming his fork down on the table. "You're done, Naomi. I'm going to show the world just what an evil person you are." I grabbed his hand under the table, squeezing it to silence him before he ruined our plan. Naomi scoffed.

"Yeah whatever. This was a waste of time. You can pay." She gestured down at the food as she quickly stood up, pushing the chair back with her legs as she huffed. She turned away from us quickly but then stopped, seemingly unsteady on her feet.

"Naomi? Are you okay?" I began to get up, my nursing instincts worrying about her. Within a second, she collapsed into me, making us both fall to the floor with a thump. "Cal, call an ambulance!" I shouted as I lay her in the recovery position, feeling for her pulse which seemed slow. She looked pale and her legs looked swollen. It could be nothing but it could also be something serious and as horrible as she was, I couldn't stand around and let her suffer. I needed to help her just like I'd help anyone else.
Let's just hope she appreciates it.
