Chapter 26

Poppy's PoV

The last few days had been a blur of medication, doctors checks and scans. Today was the first day I felt normal. Nothing hurt, no wires were protruding from me, no doctors were poking me. It just felt like I was hungover.

"Good morning Poppy." A kind doctor I'd seen a few times over the last few days came in with the same big smile he always did.

"Hey Dr Franco. How are you?" I replied and he seemed surprised at my answer, as if every other time had been an incoherent mumble as I was dosed up. He nodded firmly.

"Coming here with some good news, you'll be pleased to hear." He put down the chart for a second as he sat on the chair beside my hospital bed. "I don't know if you are religious, but my dear, someone was watching out for you that day. We've checked everything just to be sure, but you didn't break anything. Nothing was too severely damaged. We kept you in to monitor your stomach injury in case that got worse but luckily for you, everything has remained stable. I'm thinking you can be released this afternoon following a quick check with the physiotherapist to make sure your whiplash injuries are not too severe." He squeezed my arm as he let out a happy grin. I could barely contain my excitement.

"Wow, thank you so much Doctor. I can't believe it. I mean, I don't really remember what happened but I'm so thankful that nothing was too badly injured." Dr Franco stood back up and scribbled a couple of things on my chart.

"Some May call it a miracle." He said softly as he began to head for the door. "Physio will be here around midday. Your breakfast and paper selection should be here soon." He nodded to me as he walked out, leaving me alone to stew in my thoughts. I was finally going to be getting out of here. It had only been a few days but it had felt like a lifetime without the noise and liveliness of the band and their lives. I missed their jokes, the way they bantered with each other and made fun of each other without any hard feelings. I missed the escapades they got up to in the dressing room or backstage. I missed the heart to hearts late at night after a gig. I missed Calum. Just everything about him; His smile, his scent, his arms and his hands, his eyes when they looked deep into mine. It'd felt like we'd been apart forever - which I suppose was exactly how Sierra, Crystal and Bex must feel. Sierra...
Images flooded back; Luke and I talking about Sierra and how he missed her. He asked me to speak with him outside the hotel. We were talking and the car came out of nowhere.

The door to my room opened with a squeak and I flinched, the memories merging that noise with when I was hit. I sucked in a sharp breath, clearly terrified as the caterer walked in with a tray of food and a selection of papers. She jumped back too, clearly upset that she had made me react like that. She offered a sorry smile.

"My apologies. Morning sweetheart." The older lady cooed as she placed the tray down beside me on the table. "Your friend wasn't sure on what you liked to read so there's a couple of newspapers, gossip mags and a sudoku puzzle book." I smiled softly as I thanked her, my cheeks still heated and my heart still pounding. Luckily for me, this time I was safe.

"You're the best, Juliana. Thank you. I hope you have a good day!" I smiled back, looking down at the cereal and toast placed before me. It was nothing special but it was going to get me through, after all this was potentially my last breakfast here. I sat happily munching on it, savouring the last piece of peace and quiet I would get before I was back in the full swing of the madness that came with working with the band.
Jack, the band's security guard, was now popping in to check on me in the mornings and on his way would bring me something to entertain myself. He'd explained to me that management had come down hard on the guys and that was why they couldn't visit so he decided to try and say hi before he went to work just so he could update them. It was such a sweet gesture and one I appreciated massively. He didn't realise it, but I literally looked forward to that every day. Unfortunately today I was talking to the doctor when he appeared, so he left my papers with the caterer.

Sighing dramatically, I ran my fingers over the pages of the documents as I decided which one I was going to read. Did I need real news or entertainment? If I was due to get out of here today, gossip would probably keep me going. I could get the facts from the guys when I got back. I grabbed a gossip magazine and threw it down in front of me as I took a sip of my steaming hot coffee. My eyes landed on the front page and within an instant, I spat my coffee across the bed, dropping the cup in horror. It smashed into pieces on the floor but I barely registered as I took in the front page of the magazine. There, staring back at me, was Naomi. All glammed up as she posed for the magazine's photographer. The headline was pretty clear and was surrounded by smaller articles that related to it. I read every single one fifty times over, wondering if somehow I'd read it wrong yet another time. But I hadn't. It was there in black and white. The lies - or that's what I'd hoped they were - spilling across the page for all our friends, family and fans to see.

I sucked in a sharp breath as tears stung my eyes. Had she really gone that far? Was this her most extravagant lie? ... was it even a lie?
I had no idea what the band had been up to since I was in here and I could hardly keep an eye on Calum and Naomi when I was in hospital. A feeling of dread washed over me. Please tell me it isn't true. I flicked to a double page spread, all the information coloured boldly for me to see.

Calum is struggling to choose between his ex and now baby momma Naomi, or fiancée Poppy.
With news of Calum and Naomi expecting a child, what does the future hold for Poppy? We have reached out to Calum for comment.
