Chapter 17
Calum's PoV
We'd enjoyed a great afternoon with everyone, eating out and giving the paps a right eyeful of our relationship, rubbing it in their faces so that they'd post perfect pictures and screw with Naomi. If she wanted to play games, we could do that too. The confident, radiant beauty of Poppy had been put on show and I made sure I did everything I could to emphasise it for the cameras. We had fun and got the end result we wanted. Later on, Luke decided we all needed a night off from drama and said we should all hit a local club. We all eagerly agreed, making sure we got ready as quickly as we could.
After what felt like an eternity in the bathroom, Poppy finally emerged with her hair and makeup done. As she turned to me, she offered me a cheeky smile and made my heart flutter. She'd curled her hair into soft waves which sat over one shoulder, her makeup made her skin look flawless and really emphasised her bright eyes, prominent cheekbones and plump lips. She looked gorgeous. She looked sexy.
"What?" She whined as I gawped at her, words escaping me as I took in her beauty. "Is it too much?" I blinked back at her, unsure as to why she doubted herself so much. I know she wanted to make a good impression to the fans and the paps but she spent much too much time second guessing herself.
"You look perfect." I beamed as I rushed behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist. She spun round and kissed me on the cheek, letting out a laugh as she quickly wiped the lipstick mark from my cheek.
"Sorry!" She said as I headed to the bathroom to wipe off the makeup and get myself ready.
Before long, we were finally ready to go out and met the others at the reception. Once again, I couldn't help but stare at Poppy as she stood there, her outfit showing every curve of hers off. She wore a long sleeved mesh top with a black bra and a nude coloured skirt which hugged her tightly and finished mid-thigh. She paired this with a pair of black heels and a black clutch bag. She looked like a model.
"Cal..." she warned me again, catching me staring at her with my mouth agape. I couldn't help it, but I knew she was just nervous and scared of something going wrong. It was quite a habit of ours, having things go wrong, and with Naomi looming in the shadows, it was messing with her head.
"You look beautiful, baby. Don't worry." I soothed as the others walked up to us, offering comforting words of encouragement and compliments. We headed out and to the club, making our way to a reserved table in the corner near the bar. Our security would be guarding us but we didn't want to be too far away from the fun - otherwise there was no point!
"Right, I'll get the first drinks." Ashton clapped, grabbing me as he yanked me to the bar to help him with the drinks. Once we'd put the order in, he turned to me and got the serious conversation underway. I knew there was a reason he dragged me up here. "How's she doing with all the Naomi stuff?" Both Ashton and I glanced over to Poppy who seemed to be laughing at something Bex had said, throwing her head back as her shoulders shook. We exchanged looks before I answered.
"Well I thought I'd fucked it up yesterday but whatever you said to her really seemed to help. She wants to fight for me, impress the paps and fans and prove to Naomi that our relationship is too strong for that. I'm hoping we can get through it okay." I sighed, glancing back once more. She seemed so happy, fitting in with the group perfectly. I couldn't ask for anyone better.
"We or you?" Ashton asked, pulling me from my thoughts. I raised an eyebrow. "Are you scared for your relationship or are you scared because you're not sure you can keep refusing her?" Ashton's words hit hard, like slaps on my cheeks during a harsh winter. I stared at him for a moment as I searched my mind for the answer, except I couldn't think of one. Luckily, the drinks arrived soon after and Ashton told me to wait at the bar for the last two drinks whilst he carried the tray over to the group. As I waited, my mind wandered into dangerous territory. I thought back to Naomi and what we used to have, how I was under her spell no matter what had happened.
"Here's the rest of your drinks, sir." The bartender gave me two drinks and I turned to head back to the table, freezing as I came face to face with Naomi, our bodies only millimetres a part.
"Hi Calum." She smiled, twirling a piece of hair around her finger.
"No." I said quickly, weaving around her before I thought too much or got too hooked.
"Please, Calum. We need to talk. I owe you an apology." The bass from the song was heavy and shook the room, making us move closer to be able to hear each other properly. "I need to get some things off my chest." She stuck here chest out towards me as she said it, drawing me in. "Just one minute, I promise." Her eyelashes fluttered at me. My head was screaming to tell her no, but my body followed her without question to the other side of the club where it was darker, quieter, more sensual.
"What Naomi?" I tried to stay strong as she closed the gap between us in one step. My breath hitched as she gazed up into my eyes.
"Calum, I'm so sorry." She said, putting her hands in mine. "You have no idea how bad I felt after everything. I wasn't thinking straight." She moved my hands up to her chest, placing them where her heart is. "Can you feel that, cal? You make my heart go wild." It was then that the panic set in. I was now trapped with no way out. I looked over her shoulder and out to the dance floor but I couldn't see any of the guys. I hoped someone would come looking for me and save me from this torment.
My eyes stared down at my hands, noting just how close they were to her breast. This was bad. I pulled my hands away in a panic, sending her toppling onto me, her arms flinging over my shoulders as she caught herself, her lips scarily close to mine.
"Naomi..." I whispered, my body unable to take the strain of resisting anymore.
"Say no more, baby, I'm yours." And with that she kissed me.
