"Somebody's gotta go down there and check this thing out."
"No way, you dingus. You're not going down there!" You exclaimed, sending daggers at your brother with your eyes.
You could feel Eddie's hand gently rest on your shoulder, not wanting you to immediately lurch at Steve for how stupid he's being, and capsize the boat.
Your self-proclaimed-hero—but irritating—brother Steve, turned to give Robin a sarcastically annoyed look at your use of 'dingus'; a word you've definitely picked up from her.
"Unless one of you four can top being a Hawkins High swim co-captain, and a certified lifeguard for three years, then it's gotta be me." He spoke while already taking off his shoes and preparing for the dive.
He turned to look at you, "No complaints, got it?"
"Steve, I swear to god, if you die, I'm gonna kill you."
Steve reached to ruffle your hair, but shrugged you off—ever so stubborn, and ever the protective brother he was of you. "Alright, great."
"Shit, I'm not complaining." Eddie shook his head with a daunting voice, "I do not wanna go down there."
While you agreed with your boyfriend, and definitely did not want to revisit the upside down, you still worried for your brother.
You helped Eddie shake something out of a plastic bag, to instead create a sort of waterproof flashlight for Steve to take with him.
Eddie handed you the finished product, and you handed it to Steve. "Here."
Steve took the flashlight, giving you a slight nod. You heard Eddie wish him luck from behind you, to which he thanked him.
And then, splash. Down he went.
"Jesus, here we go again." You shook your head, leaning back with a sigh, into your boyfriend who gladly took you into his arms. "I swear, we never learn."
"We'll be okay, sweetheart." Eddie reassured, pressing a kiss to your hair, "Plus, we're obviously totally safe in this rocky ass boat." He paused, reaching to light a cigarette.
Robin reached over to flick it out his hands to the water, to which Eddie clicked his tongue disappointedly.
"Yup." He huffed, resting his chin on the top of your head as you leaned into his chest. "Totally safe."
You chuckled slightly, leaning upwards to look up at him, reaching to press a chaste kiss to the bottom of his chin as he looked down at you.
He smiled down at you, completely ignoring the two other people on the boat.
Good. He got you to smile. A little swell of pride built in his chest at the sweet sight.
Eddie Munson was never someone to outwardly show that something got to him. He was never the type of person to let anything get to him, really. He was just a guy doing his own thing, being unapologetically himself, and that's one of the things you told him all the time that you loved about him.
But this entire situation made him uneasy.
He wouldn't mind being stuck in the end of the world armageddon of Hawkins if you weren't dead at the center of it with him.
He wouldn't care as much if it was just him, if you weren't already seen as an accomplice to the freak Munson suspected of three counts of murder simply because you're his girlfriend.
He worried about you all the time, your well-being was always his prime focus—especially now.
So while he seemed to be cracking jokes a lot like he wasn't nervous, he was doing it for you.
To put you at ease, to make you feel better.
To make you smile even a little bit, even in a time as crazy as this night. To be the strong one since you were already worried out of your mind about this entire situation.
Suddenly, a splash of water startled you all from the tense silence.
"Jesus Christ!" Eddie cursed, holding onto you to ground himself, while also making sure you didn't rock too much from the waves Steve made.
"I found it!" Steve announced, gripping onto the side of the boat.
"You found it?!" You asked, moving towards the side of the boat your brother was on.
He nodded once, pinching water from his nose while he folded his arms on the boat. "I found it."
Robin made sure to radio in their find, calling Dustin a 'goddamn Einstein' while Steve told everyone what he saw.
"Yeah, it was pretty wild. More of a snack-sized gate than a mama gate, but still," He huffed to catch his breath, "It's pretty damn big—"
But before he could finish, Steve was suddenly grabbed by something in the water—trying to pull him under.
He held onto the boat, a wide eyed look on his face as he steadied himself again.
He looked at you, about to reassure you that he was okay, before the same force dragged him under completely.
"Steve!" You all shouted, everyone looking over the side, calling for him. "Steve!"
"No, no, no, you idiot!" You yelled, "Ugh, I told you!"
"What the hell was that, man?" Eddie yelled, his hands on his head as he took in what just happened.
Nancy and Robin looked over the side, yelling for Steve as if they expected him to resurface any moment.
But you had a feeling you knew exactly what pulled him under.
"Oh, screw this." You mumbled, masking your fear for your brother with sisterly irritation. "I told him, but does he listen to me? No."
You began to move your way to the side of the boat, maneuvering yourself to prepare to dive into the water to get your brother.
"Whoa, whoa, baby, wait—" The worried voice of your protective boyfriend rang clear in your ears. "You're not going in there, are you?"
The worry in his voice was clear. There was a light shakiness to it, like the fear he had of losing you was choking his words in his throat.
He grasped onto your arm, his ringed fingers wrapped around your skin. "Please tell me you're not about to go down there."
"I have to, baby." Your own worry was clear in your voice. "I'll be damned if I let him die in there before I get to tell him I was right."
Eddie moved closer to you, knowing you well enough to know that—despite your joking—you were scared too.
He reached a hand to grasp your cheek, desperate to get you to change your mind.
"Please don't. Please don't, not you." He shook his head, "Please baby, I'm-I'm telling you right now, I really think this is a bad, bad, bad idea—"
He chuckled nervously through his sentence, but it was clear he was terrified out of his mind for you. He couldn't bear the thought of you going down there into god knows what.
"He's my brother, Eddie." You exhaled, sending him a weak smile while reaching to gently hold his cheek. "I'll be right back."
He watched as you moved towards the edge of the boat, his eyes wide in the pure fear of losing you to whatever thing took those other people.
"Baby, baby, baby, wait—"
And without another word, you dove right into the water with a splash.
"No!"
"Y/N!" Nancy and Robin shouted.
"Goddammit!" Eddie kicked the edge of the boat with his boot.
He paused to stare at the water where you had just dove into.
He was petrified of losing you.
He couldn't even bear the thought of doing anything without you. He loved you so much, more than he thought was even possible for him.
He never considered himself a brave man. But when it came to you, he'd jump into a deadly lake anyday if it meant saving you.
There was no way he was going to lose you.
So, without another word or even a second thought—ignoring the shouts from Robin and Nancy telling him to stop— he dove right into the water after you.
He was terrified of what lay beneath this water and whatever waited for him through the hellgate, but he was even more terrified of the thought of losing you.
And so, instead of running away from it, Eddie Munson ran—rather, swam—right towards the bright red glow that practically screamed 'danger.'
He swam through the entrance, only to be pulled in by a force as he entered—the change in gravity as he made it through to the other side had him thrown on his back with a shout as he landed.
He groaned at the impact, rolling to his side with a huff. He shifted to stumble to his feet, his guard immediately up and his mind focused on finding you in this backwards world of what he assumed to be a topsy-turvy version of Lover's Lake.
And then, he heard you. He turned his head to find you, and when his eyes landed on you, he felt his heart sink.
You were fighting frantically to defend the swarm of bats away from Steve who was writhing on the floor being swarmed. But in the process of helping your brother, you yourself were getting clawed, bitten, and sliced into by the demobat creatures too.
"Shit!" Eddie looked around before he found an oar sitting entangled in some slimy vines, picking it up.
He ran to you, not a thought in his head about how goddamn crazy this alternate world is and without hearing Robin and Nancy resurface through the gate too.
The only thought in his head was your name in flashing lights. His instincts screaming to protect you at all costs.
He swung at the bats that attacked you, his focus zoned in on protecting you from any more harm. He raised his oar, swinging and hitting any creature that got close to you, freeing you from their grasp on your torso and back.
Demobat, after demobat, Eddie swung at every last one of them—cursing and yelling at them for even getting close to you.
Until finally he made it through most of them.
"Go to hell!" He yelled, swatting the last bat away from you.
There was a pause as he took a breath, his eyes meeting your frantic ones as you sent him an appreciative look that spoke more words than words ever could. 'You came back for me...'
And his hair swayed when he turned to send you a look that spoke, 'You're goddamn right I did, sweetheart.'
"Baby—" He was about to run for you, to check to see if you were okay.
Before he was interrupted by yet another storm of demobats rushing to attack you both again.
You both snapped back into action, quickly moving to help free your brother from the demobats that strangled and ate at him.
But as you turn to him again, you see that Nancy and Robin are here as well, already working to free Steve from the hold the bats had on him.
You and Eddie immediately dove into action, helping Nancy and Robin fight off the demobats away from Steve, and from one another.
"Of course they have flying demogorgon-ish bats now, why am I not surprised!" You curse, ripping and yanking bats away.
"Robin!" Nancy yells for her to step on the bat strangling your brother, while you kill the ones trying to devour him.
While you did that, Eddie covered you, making sure nothing got to you.
"Come on!" He yelled at the bats that hovered over them, "I said come on, you son of a bitch!"
You turned away for a moment from helping your brother up, just in time to see Eddie stab a bat midair—slamming it down to the ground for good measure.
He took a few steps back with huffing breaths, and although it was definitely not the time to be thinking the thoughts you were thinking, you couldn't help but admit that he looked really hot doing it.
You blushed before turning back to your brother, who was now ripping the bat that had been strangling him, under his foot—tearing it apart and throwing it to the side with a huff.
You grimaced at the blood in his mouth, "Ew."
Now that it seemed there was a lull in the swarms of demobats, everyone finally caught their breath.
You then moved to look at Eddie across the little clearing behind Nancy and Robin, catching his breath.
Once his eyes met yours, he immediately threw his broken oar to push past the girls and make a beeline for you.
"Y/N, baby—" He called as he trotted over to you, immediately reaching to hold your face in his palms.
"Eddie—" You sighed in relief as you reached to hold your boyfriend's concerned face in your hands—your touch doing wonders to comfort him.
"Are-Are you alright? Jesus Christ..." Eddie asked as you felt him check over your face for any injuries, making sure you were okay.
The worry edged in his voice was serious, so obviously concerned for your well-being, and you found it heartwarming.
"Did those bats from hell do anything to you—" He scanned over your face intricately, before taking a step back to check over the rest of you.
His eyes widened in fear when they landed on the slashes in your t-shirt on your side, blood seeping through the fabric. "Holy shit!"
"I'm okay, I'm fine," You tried to reassure, not wanting to worry him. They weren't that bad of scratches, they just hurt like hell. "It's okay, calm down—"
Eddie's eyes darted back up from the scratches to meet your eyes. His face was terribly concerned, fear for you was etched into his features.
"Calm down?! You scared the shit out of me, sweetheart..." His voice cracked at the end of his words.
His hand reached to cup your cheek gently in his palm—the cool metal of his rings stung sweetly on your skin.
And without another word, he guided your lips to meet his in a desperately worried kiss—all his emotions for you flooding onto your lips in his heart-melting kiss.
You could feel his concern for you speaking through his touch, as both his ringed hands gently grasped onto your face like a lifeline.
You could tell he was really worried about you, and hated seeing you hurt. It terrified him. He was never really good with words, or confronting fears, or heading towards danger.
But with you, he was willing to face it all.
And that's just one of the many things you loved about Eddie Munson.
Eddie pulled apart from your lips reluctantly, resting his forehead against yours with a relieved sigh.
Your kisses always calmed him down.
You felt his thumb brush your cheek as he searched for the right words with furrowed brows. "I thought I lost you..."
You smiled up at him weakly, appreciative of his concern. "I'm right here, baby."
He looked down at you with his puppy-like eyes when you reached up to press another quick kiss to his lips—before you heard a cough from the group.
You turned to look at the source of the cough being your brother, standing in his usual mom-ish stance.
"Uhhh, can you guys maybe not make out right in front of me? Thanks." Steve smiled sarcastically.
You shot your brother a glare, but didn't move to put any space between you and your boyfriend—who simply would not allow that to happen.
His protective instincts were far too strong right now.
You then heard the unmistakable screeches somewhere in the distance, on route to where your group was out in the open.
You felt Eddie's hand immediately go to your waist—careful to avoid your injuries—pulling you into him and slightly behind him just at the sound of the bats.
The group huddled together, seeing the bats swarm up ahead moving to guard the gate.
Your only exit.
"Yup, sounds about right." Eddie huffed in disbelief.
"There's not that many," Steve got into his ready stance, as if to prepare to take on the bats again. "We can take them."
However, his confidence faltered at the sound of more approaching danger in the skies, the clouds flickering with lightning of terrifying shades of red.
"You were saying?" You retorted.
A boom of thunder and screeches of danger made Eddie's grip on your waist tighten very slightly out of instinct to keep you close to him, his other hand on his hair—stressed at the sight of the red skies.
"The woods." Nancy said suddenly, "Come on!"
You turned to look at Steve running to follow Nancy, to which he turned back to shout at you, "Come on, let's go!"
You felt Eddie's hand clasp yours to hold tightly as you ran together following the group, making a fast beeline for the woods.
~
The group finally took shelter from the swarm of bats underneath the upside down version of Skull Rock, the alternate place you all had just been hours before.
"Okay..." Steve exhaled, "They're gone for now."
The group moved to stand up and out of the shelter of the rock—but as you saw Steve try to stand up too, and stumble to lean against the granite at his sudden movement, so did you.
You felt the sharp sting of the slashes in your sides from the bats, wincing as you were forced to sit back down on the ground. "Shit."
"Hey—" Eddie turned around to see you wincing in pain on the ground, immediately moving to help you, "Whoa, baby, hey—
"Hey, hey, what is it—" He asked before seeing you clutch the side of your waist.
He quickly went to help you stand up, and lean you up against the granite of the rock—opposite from Steve who was being attended to by Nancy.
"I'm gonna pull up your shirt, okay sweetheart?" He asked you with careful eyes, to which you nodded with weighted breaths, and he continued.
He pulled up your now ruined 'Corroded Coffin' t-shirt he loved that you made for his band, bunching it up just under your bra.
His eyes widened at the now exposed wound on your waist, his hatred for those hellbats was now even worse.
He took a glance behind him at Nancy who was tending to Steve's wounds with half of her shirt.
Eddie turned back to you, and immediately shrugged his jackets off to just be left in his Hellfire shirt—tossing his jackets to the side.
"Okay—yeah, uh...okay, I'm no doctor or anything, but I'm pretty sure we should get this bandaged up maybe?" He hovered his hands over your wound, thinking for a second.
He moved to pull your shirt off over your head, before you made a groaning noise of protest.
"Eddie, I can't—ow—I can't walk around without a shirt."
"I know, sweetheart. That's why I'm gonna give you mine, okay?" He said with a nod, "I'm gonna use your shirt to wrap around your badass battle wound, then give you my Hellfire shirt to wear over it."
"Besides," Eddie added with his signature smirk, "It's nothing I haven't seen before." He winked.
You huffed out a laugh at his jokes, loving that he always knew how to make you smile or laugh—even in situations like this.
So with your nod of permission, you let Eddie carry out his plan.
"Okay, people!" Eddie announced, "Give my girl some privacy, avert your eyes!" He said in his signature theatrical voice.
You heard the mumbles of Steve's immediate response to tell the others something along the lines of, 'give my sister some privacy, shit.'
"Make it quick, Munson!" Steve threatened in his brotherly tone with his back turned, "You better be helping her with your eyes closed too, I swear to god."
You chuckled weakly as you lifted your arms up for Eddie to lift your shirt off you—a dance you two knew how to do very well—leaving you just in your bra while exposing your wounds.
"You're a bit way late on that threat there, Harrington." Your boyfriend couldn't help but goad. And he was definitely right.
He moved to reluctantly rip your 'Corroded Coffin' shirt to make a makeshift bandage for your waist, before he looked up at you. "Okay, ready?"
You nodded quickly, bracing, "Yeah."
He leaned forward to wrap the bandage from behind you to then bring the fabric forward again to wrap it around your waist tightly.
You winced, soft groans of pain leaving your lips. "Shit, ow!" You began shifting to catch a break from the stinging—but it prevented your boyfriend from helping.
"You know," Eddie sighed, "I always love hearing those sounds, preferably at a way funner time, but right now sweetheart, I need you to hang in there for me, okay?"
You nodded, clenching your eyes shut as he finished his wrap a little tighter—wincing at the sharp stings.
"I know, I know it hurts, baby." He whispered just low enough for only you to hear. "I'm sorry."
After a couple failed tries and a few, 'son of a bitch's' later, he finished wrapping your shirt around your waist.
He then moved to pull his Hellfire shirt over his messy hair and over his head to reveal his tattooed chest and arms.
"Arms up, pretty please." He teased as he helped slide his Hellfire shirt down your arms and over your waist. "There. You okay?"
You exhaled with relief, moving your gaze to look at Eddie with a tired but appreciative smile. You nodded, leaning your forehead against his.
"Thank you." You sighed.
"Anytime, m'lady." He shrugged, sending you one of his signature smiles. "You know I just love seeing you in my shirts." He smirked, raising his eyebrows.
~
After a very interesting earthquake and conversations about Nancy Wheeler having weapons in her bedroom the group could use, you were now on route to the Wheeler's house for guns.
"Nice shirt." Nancy teased, come up to walk next to you.
You chuckled at the tease, nodding as you looked down at Eddie's Hellfire shirt you were now wearing. "Yeah, I bought it new." You joked.
You moved to align your pace with her, keeping an eye on everything as the rest of the group and your boyfriend walked ahead of you.
"This place just always seems to bring back great memories, huh?" Nancy jeered, shaking her head as she looked around.
You huffed with a nod, "Yeah. Really great memories of us almost dying."
You had been a part of the entire Upside Down fiasco since the very beginning, and it's always been a major weight on your shoulders. Everything you saw, from seeing demodogs ripping people apart, to seeing good friends taken from you.
To seeing the mindflayer in person at Starcourt, made of human flesh and bone—threatening to kill you and your friends. It shook you up really bad, and you never quite got over it.
The Upside Down was not a place worth revisiting.
"Thanks for coming back for us by the way." You add with a weak smile. "I know it's terrifying coming back here. Couldn't have been easy for you. Or Robin or Eddie."
Nancy nodded with a chuckle, "Yeah, I was still scared and I've been to this place before. But Eddie?" She paused, "For a guy who's never been to this hellhole before, he sure didn't even seem to bat an eyelash."
You turned to give her a curious look before she stopped to gesture to your boyfriend walking with the group ahead of you two.
"For a guy who preaches that he isn't exactly the heroic type, he seemed pretty damn ready to dive right into that water after you." She nodded towards your boyfriend. "He didn't even waste a second. I'm not even kidding. Not one second."
You turned to look at the back of Eddie's leather jacket, his wavy metalhead hair flicking as his head moved in alert at every weird noise.
"So I don't know if you know this already or if you guys have gotten there yet, but that guy right there," Nancy pointed at Eddie, "is definitely head over heels in love with you."
You smiled softly to yourself at the thought.
You knew that although Eddie was never really the best at words, he showed you everyday just how much he loved you. And you knew you loved him too.
"Thanks Nance." You put a hand on her shoulder, thanking her with a squeeze of your hand.
You changed pace to catch up to your boyfriend, who's been mostly quiet and zoned out for the entire walking trip to the Wheeler's house. He anxiously held the flashlight, on high alert for any more trouble.
"Hey, dungeon master." You teased once you reached him. "Are you okay?"
"Hmm?" Eddie turned to meet your glance, eyes softening at your words of concern. "Oh yeah, yeah...I am, just swell."
You could tell something was really bothering him, and you knew he was never one to let anything bother him.
"Hey..." You said softly as you put a hand to his shoulder, gently turning him to face you. "What's going on?"
You two stopped walking, and he turned to face you as you directed. He stood tall looking down at you, adjusting his leather jacket over his bare tattooed chest. Damn, what a sight.
You could tell he was lost in his thoughts, something he often did a lot whenever he was seriously bothered by something.
You reached a hand to cup his cheek, his rings he gave you to wear on your own fingers stung his skin in the best way possible.
"Talk to me, Ed's." You ran your thumb over his cheekbone as you scanned his face.
He clenched his eyes shut with a slight shake of his head, as if the thoughts flooding his mind were suffocating him. He felt this same level of stressful thoughts while he was in hiding from the police after the murders.
"I just uh...I thought you—" He clenched his eyes tighter as if the next thought hurt him to say, "I thought I was going to uh...I thought I was gonna lose you back there on the boat—"
"Eddie..." You sighed, already wanting to talk your way into making him feel better because it broke your heart to see him like this.
"And-And even just the thought of losing you had me going goddamn insane. Like, even more than usual." He shook his head, reaching his hands to fist his hair, "And I keep thinking that if I had just jumped in maybe-maybe a few seconds sooner, then you wouldn't have this."
He looked down to gesture to the area where your waist had been slashed into, his face falling at the sight of faint red seeping into the white of his shirt you wore.
He didn't see this situation the way you saw it.
He saw himself almost losing you as his fault, but you saw this situation as him saving you. What happened to you was nowhere near his fault.
"But baby, you saved me." You reach to hold his face again, his soft eyes looking down at you sadly. "My dungeon master hero of a boyfriend saved me. I'm okay right now because of you."
"See? That's it right there." He clenched his jaw as he shook his head once. "Outside of D&D, I'm not...I'm no hero, Y/N."
"Eddie, you are. You are to me." You nodded, stroking his cheek with your thumb softly. "You're my hero. In D&D, and always."
Eddie smiled weakly at that, showing a level of vulnerability in his face that he hardly ever showed to anyone else.
"I was just so damn scared that I was gonna lose you..." He looked down into your eyes, "That that crazy son of a bitch was gonna get to you too, and I-I can't—"
You could hear his voice cracking at the threat of tears, his hidden emotions spilling from his lips as he finally felt free to show them to you. He's been holding in this fear for so long.
The look he had on his face at just the thought of losing you made your heart wrench. You pulled him into you, wrapping your arms around the back of his neck in a hug.
"I'm right here, Eddie." You stroked the back of his neck through his hair, knowing that always seemed to ground him. "We're in this together, okay? Always."
You felt Eddie bury his face in your neck, nodding as he calmed himself down. "I'm not gonna let anything happen to you, I promise."
You two pulled away to see the group had lingered ahead of you, stalling for time to give you and Eddie a moment to wrap up.
"I swear. I swear on Moradin—no wait, on Ao himself." Eddie spoke softly with enthusiasm in his words.
He leaned his forehead to yours again, looking down at you with soft eyes—reaching his ringed hand to lace his fingers with yours, "I swear I'm not gonna let that bastard get to my girl."
He lifted your joined hands to his lips, pressing a kiss to your knuckles that wore some of his rings as well.
He twirled the one he gave you to wear on your ring finger—a promise he made to get you a ring right out of high school. Right after graduation.
He promised you that '86 was your guys' year.
And he'll be damned if he doesn't do everything he can to keep you safe to keep that promise.
~
While going to the Wheeler's house was a bust in terms of finding weapons like guns to fight against the creatures in this dimension, it wasn't a total loss.
Steve found that Dustin was there—just on the other side—and by communication through lights Will-Byers-style, you all found out Vecna's tactics. As directed by Henderson, the closest gate you guys could get to in the Upside Down, was at Eddie's trailer.
You all biked towards Eddie's trailer, a route you knew well, so the group was led by you and Eddie as you rode.
"It's right here." Eddie announced, pointing towards his trailer.
Once you made it inside the familiar trailer, everyone was immediately on guard—but Eddie especially.
You noticed his discomfort as he looked around, flashes of the night he saw Chrissy's murder immediately flooded his mind. He looked incredibly nervous.
Without a word, you moved to hold your boyfriend's hand—lacing his ringed fingers with yours. You squeezed his hand three times, an unspoken way of telling him those three magic words.
He immediately let out a breath; your touch always had that effect on him.
You all looked at the obvious gate in the living area of Eddie's trailer, black vines taking over the ceiling. Everyone seemed to be at a loss for words at the sight of the gate and its strange hue from the other side.
But before the group could move any closer, everyone jumped at the sound of something poking through the gate.
Eddie instinctively stepped in front of you, guiding you with his arm to quickly move you behind him at the sound; as Steve seemed to do the same out of reflex.
But upon closer observation, it wasn't anything to be scared of. Because what waited on the other side was none other than Dustin himself, along with a select few of the crew you grew to adore.
So Dustin created a makeshift rope to help you and the group climb up, while also providing a landing pad.
Using Eddie's mattress. With some very clear and very interesting stains.
Steve, Nancy and Robin's eyes all shifted to you and Eddie, sending you two suspicious looks.
Eddie slightly turned to give the group a look, trying to make up a lie on the spot to save you both from the wrath of your brother.
"Those stains are uh..." Eddie looked back up at the mattress with wide eyes, not being able to help the flashbacks of all the fun times you two had.
He turned to look back at the group, seeing Steve sending him a glare that only an older brother could give.
Eddie looked back up at the mattress. "We—I don't know what those stains are."
You couldn't help but blush with a smirk and a slight shake of your head, nudging him.
When Dustin proved his Einstein smarts yet again by demonstrating the screwy physics of the Upside Down, it was time to climb.
One by one, everyone made their way up the rope to land with a thud on Eddie's mattress up above.
When it came to be Steve's turn, he turned to give you a warning nod. It was a look that said, 'If you're not up there in the next five seconds, I'm yanking you up there myself and your boyfriend's ass is grass.'
You nodded at him with a sarcastic salute.
Then, when he finally made it up the rope himself, that just left you and your boyfriend.
He looked at you with raised eyebrows, like a kid getting ready to go on a thrilling ride after seeing the other kids having fun on it.
But upon seeing your nervous face, he put his own serious face back on.
"Hey..." He asked, checking in on you. "You ready?"
You nodded with a sigh. "Yeah..."
"Well then..." His lips curled into a smile as he stepped to the side of the rope and out of your way.
He gestured to the rope with a grand way of his hand, dramatically presenting it to you like it was a grand chariot.
"After you, m'lady." He said with a deeper theatrical voice, bowing with a hand raised as if presenting the rope. "Your grand rope awaits!"
You giggled at the sight, shaking your head slightly. You stepped up to the rope to ready yourself to climb, but you couldn't help but feel an uneasy feeling of dread creeping up on you.
You turned to look at Eddie who was ready to help you up the rope, seeing him give you a look of encouragement behind his messy hair .
"Don't make a lady wait..." You joke back with a weak smile.
Eddie smirked at that, quickly leaning in to press a chaste kiss to your lips. "Right behind you, sweetheart."
You nodded at that, now ready to climb. Eddie leaned down to help boost you up the rope, and you hoisted yourself up.
You were about to fall through the gate, ready to feel the impact of you landing on the soft mattress you knew all too well.
But you never felt it.
Instead, you fell right through what seemed like a black void—and instead of landing on the mattress, you landed somewhere much different.
You were back at Starcourt. You were back to that night, the very place you never wanted to go back to...
"Sweetheart? Y/N, hey, hello? Hello?!" Eddie's voice grew more panicked with every passing second. "Shit! Shit-shit-shit-shit! Y/N, baby, can you hear me?"
You weren't moving. You were standing still, right in front of the rope—your eyes fluttering upwards.
Eddie's blood went cold, his entire body stiffened as he realized.
This is exactly what happened before with Chrissy—right before she died.
Eddie's hands were shaking as he held your shoulders, desperately trying to wake you up to prevent the same thing from happening to you.
"Goddammit it, no! No, no, no—"
He'd never felt more terrified before in his life, the paralyzing fear of losing you had him wracked with an indescribable feeling of dread.
"Please, please, please, not again, shit! Wake up! Wake up, now, this isn't funny—"
He did everything he could think of. He shook your shoulders, snapped his fingers, talked your ear off.
Nothing was working. His eyes widened in fear as the sudden sense of realization flooded over him.
"Y/N, baby, please," He pleaded, reaching his hands to cup your face gently, "Please no..."
He pulled you into him, his arms wrapping around you desperately as if to try and keep you anchored to the ground—to prevent you from floating like how he's seen.
He was sure he heard shouts from up above, yelling at him to come up. Yelling something about headphones.
But Eddie couldn't focus on anything but you.
He just held onto you tightly while staring blankly in teary anguish—with his arms desperately wrapped around you as he thought about everything he didn't get to do with you, and everything he wanted so badly to.
Hell, he'd never even told you he loved you yet.
'86, right?
It was supposed to be your year with him. He promised you. He promised you.
He was supposed to protect you—
"Goddammit, what's her favorite song, Munson?!"
