Looking down on me

I was dying. End of my life, utterly defeated.

" Mama! The twins are crying and Dad got stuck on call with Uncle Red! MAMA!!"

Rose was jumping on my bed, her voice was so loud and my head hurt so much, but I couldn't yell at her. It wasn't her fault, she was just being a good big sister.

" I'm up, I'm up."

I groaned, slowly sliding out from my warm blankets and carefully placed my feet onto the floor. Rose held out her hands and I pulled her onto my back, winsing as my body wined at the extra weight. Ignoring it I headed over to the nursery, already hearing the twins cries. Once I walked into the room Rose dropped from my back and ran over to the twins joint crib. Picking both up I tried to bounce, only for their crying to get worse. Rose pulled on my shirt and said,

" Mama you're going to hurt in a moment. Set them down."

Knowing that she wasn't pulling my leg I quickly set down the twins. Just as they left my hand I fell over and let out a gasp. My rib cracked back into place, healing. It did this sometimes since I had the twins. Doctors said it took so much energy that my body was going to do it in segments. So since then I relied on Rose to give me a heads up before it happened. Once the pain was gone I picked up Violet, handing her off to Rose and the picked up Fern myself. Rose sat on the floor and started to rock her sister while I gently bounced around, trying to calm the one I had. Soon they were both back to sleep and slightly snoring. Placing both back in the crib gently I motioned for Rose to back away slowly. Once the door was shut I let out a sigh, then rushed her away. Damn near running to the library. Once I closed the doors I shot Rose a glance and she grinned. Then she started to peel off her clothes, looked like she wanted to go for a swim. Following suit I also peeled off my oversized sweater. I had been planning on going for a swim after eating lunch, but in this family it was always wise to be wearing swimwear. Climbing up to the top of the tank, I laughed as Rose dived right in. She was her father's daughter, she loved being in water, reading books and telling off her cousins. Belle and May always talked back, but she tried to act like she knew everything. Slipping into the water I, I sighed at the cool water surrounded me. It's been hard, not really sleeping, and without the help of my Rose and Abe, I'm sure that I would have lost my mind already. I loved my Babies, but they were so fussy. I wondered if they were going to love coffee, or books or want to beat up assholes. Sinking down under the water I watched Rose swim around in circles, her hair trailing behind her. I wondered if the girls were going to have my hair as well. Maybe one of them will grow my horns. But at the moment I was okay with them being tiny. They had a blue hue to them like Rose. So maybe a perfect combination of Abe and myself.

" You two look like you're having fun."

Abe was outside the tank, he had a hand on his hip and was grinning. Rose pressed her face against the glass, and I could only imagine what faces she was making at her Father. His laughter was loud, Swimming over to the glass I held me hand out and pressed it against the glass, when his hand touched mine I sent him a thought of me underwater kissing him. Then me beating him in a race. He laughed, pulling away and took off his shirt, heading over to the stairs to join us. Once he jumped in Rose tried to pull him into a race with her, and like a good dad, let her win. Once she won he came over to me and pulled me in for a kiss. Smiling against his lips, I just let myself enjoy this moment. It had been a while since I had been in the water, and it felt like home.

" That girls, is how the next set of twins is made."

Red's voice boomed as he laughed at how fast Abe and I shot apart. Narrowing my eyes at my brother I swam up to the top of the tank and jumped out. It caused a small shock of pain to ripple through me, but I ignored it and punched him in the arm.

" Buttmunch. Don't tell your kids that."

He laughed, pulling me into a hug. He was a good brother, but he needed to think about how he acted around his kids and mine. May and Belle both came at me then, each hugging a leg once I pulled away from Red. They squeezed on tight, not letting go. Rose, excited to see her cousins, came jumping out of the pool and down the stairs. She gave them soaking wet hugs, causing them to squeal.

" Red, what did you- oh."

Liz came in, carrying Violet and Fern, both were fussing. Rushing over I grabbed Fern and started to bounce again. They never seemed to sleep for long, sleep was for the weak I guess.

" Sorry Ellie, I went to go take a peek and they woke up. It's my fault."

Shaking my head I consoled her,

" Nah it's okay, They are light sleepers."

" Unlike their mother. She only wakes up for me if I have a coffee in hand."

Abe came over and took Fern from me, the way he held her was almost too cute. The love in his eyes for the baby was so pure it made my heart melt. Liz leaned over and whispered,

" Makes you wanna ignore the doctor and go right to having eighteen more kids right?"

My stomach dropped and my heart stopped.

" Hell no! Three is enough! You better catch up!"

Her eyes widened and she whacked me in the arm, but I just laughed. My family was the best thing in the world, always bringing a smile to my face no matter what. This is what I wanted my girls to see, this is family. No matter how hard life was at the moment, as long as you have family there to help back you up, anything was possible. Now to talk to the adults about what I had thought about. Grabbing Violet from Liz, I put her down into the crib near the couch, then Abe placed Fern next to her. They had calmed down enough for us to walk away.

" Mama can May and Belle swim with me?"

Rose was tugging on my hand, both her and the twins looked up at me with excitement in their eyes, glancing at Liz and Red, they seemed to be okay with it so I nodded. The girls cheered and ran up the stairs to the tank, they all jumped in and started splashing each other. My girl stayed up above the surface so they would all play. She didn't play anything to her advantage. Motioning for the adults to follow me I lead them up to the kitchen, where I took a moment to stare longingly at the coffee pot. I was about to say the hell with the doctors and drink coffee.

" What's up Ellie?"

Red said, reaching into the fridge and grabbing a beer. I had a feeling their reactions to my idea was going to be bad, but it was worth a shot.

" I was thinking that, maybe, we should...start fighting things again. But on our own terms. No more working for the B.P.R.D. Like we make our own name."

They all looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I was, but I thought it was a great idea.

" It'll help bring extra spending money for the kids, it'll let us travel and show the girls the world around them. To not be afraid of humans and to want them to defend themselves! I think it's a great idea!"

They kept looking at me. They didn't more until Red let out a loud burp.

" Well to say I don't miss kicking ass would be a big lie. But we have kids now Ellie. We can't just go around like we used to and not care if we die or not."

My eyes narrowed,

" First off Hellboy. I did think about that, and for another i do care about if I die or not. That would leave my kids without a mother. I miss going around fighting for humanity. I love my kids, but I can't just sit around forever."

Liz shook her head,

" I don't know about it. I mean what if one of the kids wandered off while we were off fighting? They could be attacked by humans. Humans do horrible things when they face the unknown."

Throwing up my hands into the air I said sarcastically,

" Well we can hire a babysitter to watch the kids while we fight! Hell we can get Myers to do it!"

Red and Abe both looked at each other, Liz seemed to like that idea and I just wanted a cup of coffee. Turning I grabbed a mug and filled the damn thing up with coffee and creamer. Ignoring the looks I was getting.

" Let's do it."

Abe said, it was the first thing he said after my crazy idea. But when I looked at him all I could see was love and support.

" Well let's go make some calls. I have another idea for an addition to the team."

Walking away with the mug in hand I started to plan out the new group. Hopefully dad was looking down on me filled with pride.
