The hut was nice, warm and very quite. Sitting down in a circle I let the villagers tell us what was going on. Turns out it was a vampire problem. Every night a female vampire came down and stole someone. Always someone who was out after curfew, always a smaller person, child or otherwise.

" Please, we need your help. She has taken our children, our sisters and brothers. Every family is missing someone at night. We fear that she will not stop until we are all her meal."

The leader of the village said, her eyes were red from the tears that she had shed.

" I will do what I can Mrs..."

I trailed off, wishing she had started off with her name.

" My name is Adalwolfa, and my bed has remained empty for many moons. My daughter is all I have left of my husband...please. Find the missing, bring home my child. You are mother, yes?"

I nodded, feeling a bit hollow as she asked. I missed my little Rose.

" Yes I am...she is about a year and a half old. She and my Husband are home."

She nodded,

" My people, please leave us. I must talk with Mrs. Brooming."

Everyone quickly got up and left, leaving Mark, myself and Adalwolfa in the room. She walked over to the window and closed it with a snap.

" So Mrs. Brooming...may I see your true form?"

I blinked,

" How do you?"

" For starters I knew your father. I called Manning because I thought he was still alive. But to my horror the Professor was gone. So I asked for you. Your brother has not the ability to blend in like you can my dear, but I wish to see your hidden form."

I nodded, in shock she knew my father. Allowing my forms to shift I heard her gasp.

" You have changed much since you were younger. I am proud to say I was the one who taught your father to change your brothers and yours nappies. I am glad to see how beautiful you have grown Eleanor Brooming."

I smiled, pushing some hair back behind my ear.

" Looks like your horns need a bit of a trim,"

She said, she walked over and took a firm grasp on my horns.

" Yours are so much more pretty than little Red's. Why do you stay in that human form?"

I shrugged,

" I just like it better I guess, no one is scared."

Her eyes narrowed,

" Your father wouldn't ever want to hear that sort of junk out of your mouth. Now, get that stupid look back on and go look for our little vampire problem. My people need you."

I nodded, shifting back to my human form and then turned to Mark. His eyes were wide as he shifted out the door.

" That boy is a bit green around the gills is he not?"

Adalwolfa chuckled as she followed, motioning for me to follow. This better not take me longer than a month or heads will roll. I didn't want to be apart from my family longer than I have to.

-Time skip six weeks-

Within the past six weeks fourteen children and four women had been taken from the Vampire. With each abduction I could feel the pain of the family's. It drove me to work overtime, barely sleeping, just about no eating. The only thing that didn't change was my constant downing pots of coffee.

" Ellie, you need to sleep, it's day time, we can track her tonight. Please, let's head back."

Poor little Mark, he looked like he was done with constantly going and going. Shaking my head I pointed up at the trees,

" Look at how there is almost like a path, branches broken and there is less leaves along those branches."

He looked up, squinting and letting out a sigh,

" There is no pattern, it's just a few branches that are broken. Nothing too epic."

I let out a sigh,

" Talk to your little animal buddies. Ask them if I'm right."

He shook his head,

"You're almost dead on your feet. Go back to Adalwolfa's house. Call your family, and then sleep. You haven't called them once, they are probably going out of their minds. I understand you know how they feel with losing a loved one but you won't be able to go on if you fall asleep while fighting her."

Shrugging I crossed my arms.

" I know what I am doing Mark. Adalwolfa and her people are counting on me, I can't sleep, you need to understand that we are here to save the children and the people taken. As part of the B.P.R.D we protect those who cannot protect themselves. There are things that go bump in the night, Mark, and we are the ones who bump back....well that's what my father said. Huh, it's actually funny, he said it to this new guy."

Mark narrowed his eyes and then grabbed my arm, pulling me just a bit. I lost my footing as I tried to pull away, stumbling as I grabbed a tree.

" See you couldn't even recover from me pulling on your arm. You are a hundred times stronger than me, and I just got you to almost fall, which isn't something I see you doing unless something was wrong."

I shrugged,

" I need to find them. What if it was my daughter? I can't help but myself in their situation."

" Eleanor, you need sleep and food. When you get home to your family they are going to flip seeing you like you are. Please, for everyone who cares let's go back to Adalwolfa's house and get some sleep."

It hurt, but I knew he was right.

" Fine, but we are not going to stop tonight...and I will be the bait."

Chapter thirty

Waking up I almost wanted to stake myself, the bed was warm and so soft. Then it hit me, I wasn't home, I was in a village without my family by my side.

" Ellie, get up. I made coffee, but you can't have any until you eat at least five eggs. I remember the reports on your brother and how much he ate."

Rolling out of the bed I stumbled over to the door, swinging it open with a snarl,

" Damn you. Damn Manning. Damn the B.P.R.D for making me miss out on my daughter's life. And go to hell for denying me coffee."

I shoved him aside, storming down the stairs. Adalwolfa peeked her head around the corner as I stormed into the kitchen.

" Eleanor, coffee is right there on the stove. It's almost time for you and Max to go hunt down the vampire. But I do agree with him, eat something. Your father would have killed you for not even touching food for the past six weeks. Now. Sit."

Her voice held an air of command, but for once I didn't want to fight back. I just wanted to be left alone, to fight this damned vampire myself and then go home to my family. I wanted to be with my daughter and Abe. I was done being mad or petty. I just wanted to be home where no one can mess with me anymore. Shoveling the food into my mouth I started to feel sick as the eggs hit my stomach. Maybe it was because I didn't eat much, and as soon as I got some coffee in me I felt fine. Finishing off my coffee I got up, nodding at Adalwolfa, who grinned as she saw my empty plate.

" Now get your butt moving. I need my people home when the sun rises. Who knows what the vampire is doing up in that little hell hole of hers."

I shot her a nod.

" I will. I promise Adalwolfa, I swear that I will do everything in my power to save your people. I swear."

She smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. The pain that the vampire was causing was pissing me off. She was the reason that I can't go home, she was the reason that these people were suffering. I was going to stake her until there wasn't anything left to stake. Grabbing all my gear I started to pull on my boots when there was a slight buzzing noise. Turning I saw that my cell was on the table. Walking over to it I was surprised to see that it was the house calling me. I stared at the familiar number, the need to answer was strong, but the need to save the people were stronger. Hitting the end call button I turned the phone off and shoved it into my bra. I wasn't going to be distracted by anything today. I was going to end it all and I didn't need anything distracting me. Heading over to the door I glanced up the stairs, Mark was still upstairs, probably calling Manning to tell him how much of a bitch I was. Turning I walked right out of the house, ignoring the feeling in my gut that told me to stay and wait.It wasn't until I was about halfway out of the town square when I heard the overly familiar sound of wings. Turning I spotted the vampire, She was flying in low and fast. I was the only one out, so tonight I was the target. Don't worry Rose, mama is on her way.
