Chapter 1
Chapter One.
Everything seemed to change as soon as my transition was completed. I wasn't a shadow, which meant I survived it. I looked down to my feet, seeing my parents dead on both sides of me, knifed at their throats.
I could see their features as clear as could be. I could see each pore on their face, each eyelash, each little lines in their glazed over eyes. As my eyes traveled down, I stopped at the sight of blood. There they laid, knife stuck in each throat, and sweet blood pouring out of each of them.
This was the craving feeling I read about. The books I've looked at said it was nearly impossible to resist blood, especially on your first day. So why was it so easy for me to shake off the feeling and scout for a mirror?
I stopped at the bathroom and looked at myself. I indeed have changed. I looked beautiful instead of the average seventeen year old. My skin, once scarred from bad acne as a young teen, was now flawless and glowing with youthfulness. I noticed my skin dropped a few tones, making me seem albino like. My lips were more filled out, with no marks from me biting them. My nose was perfectly shaped, and my face in general was more skinny. I smiled, and took note that my teeth were pearly white with razor sharp canines. My two piercings above my lips, angel bites, made my face pop out even more.
My eyes were intense. They looked like cat eyes almost, as my eyelashes were a good ten times thicker. My irises turned from a boring brown to a metallic gold.
As I looked down, I couldn't help but to grin. My body proportions sure have changed too. I slipped off my shirt and pulled my shorts off to look at myself better. My boobs were almost popping out of the c-cup bra I was wearing, the one that was too big just yesterday. My stomach shrank so much that it seriously appeared that I have lost two ribs in the process. And my hips and butt were also perfect. My limbs were smaller than they used to be, my fingers longer and nails looking fake.
My black hair also changed, it became thicker and richer. It felt like silk at the touch.
"Damn," a voice called from behind me. I turned on my heel to come face to face with two guys around my age dressed in suits, their demon eyes glowing alive.
"Usually we gotta pry the survivors off their parents, but here you are stripping for us." the same guy continued. He had slicked back dark brown hair that fell to his shoulders, while the other guy had intentionally messy black hair that reached his chin.
"Uh..." I didn't know what to say. There I stood practically naked in front of these demons, not even bothering to cover myself for some weird reason. Perhaps the transition made you much more confident.
"My name is Rudolph, and that's Skylar." he introduced. Rudolph actually had a tan skin tone, which I heard was rare. I nodded slowly then finally realized who they were. They were the people who take you to the boarding school.
Skylar finally spoke up.
“Please get your personal belongings, as we can see you are stable enough to do so. Do not worry about clothing not fitting, there is an outlet mall in the school just for clothes.” he instructed in a deep voice that was very intimidating.
I nodded again at them.
“Could you possibly get rid of my parents bodies while I get ready?” I suggested carefully picking my words. I figured it was probably for the best if I got on these guys good sides, so then I had at least two acquaintances when I got to the school.
“Sure thing, Princess.” Rudolph agreed, his tone almost teasingly. They both left the bathroom, Rudolph calling out, “ten minutes!”.
My eyes widened and I practically ran into my room. I looked into my dresser and grabbed a sports bra, knowing full well the one I was in now would just be uncomfortable. So I threw that bra to the side and slipped on the sports bra. I huffed at the fact that even that was a bit tight, but it would do for now.
I searched my closet and pulled out a grey lace tank top and a v-neck Sleeping With Sirens long sleeved shirt. I also slipped on some skinny jeans that used to be much too big in the waist, but now fit perfectly. I found a bag, and tossed a few night shorts in, along with hygiene products. I took out my IPod and headphones and put them in my back pocket of my jeans.
I also took out my electric violin, and set that next to my bag. I looked longingly at my bookcase filled with all of my favorite graphic novels and let out a sad sigh. It probably wouldn’t be very good if I tried to take all of my books. I settled on just taking one series that I have yet to collect every book; Naruto. There were just too many!
“Are you done yet?” a voice whined from behind me. I turned around, with much grace might I add, and saw Rudolph with his arms crossed at my doorway. “Sleeping With Sirens. Cool band.” he added when he noticed my shirt.
I shrugged and glanced down at my bag.
“Is there anything specific that I should bring?”
Rudolph shook his head.
“Nah, not really. Just bring anything that’ll keep you busy for a 10 hour plane ride.” I nodded and gestured to all of my stuff.
“Could you help me carry my stuff out?” I gave him a small pleading smile. He pursed his lips and scowled at me, raising his hand at me with a bunch of attitude invested in it.
“Bitch please! I ain’t yo’ bitch!” he snapped then suddenly barked a laugh. “Sure.” I gave him a strange look, but handed him my bag, and a few books. I only had twenty or so of this series.
“Do you think we could get Skylar to carry some books too?” I tilted my head. He shrugged.
“Skylar! Get your ass in here and help!” he hollered and a second later, Skylar walked in and took the books out of my hands without even being told.
He was such a silent and mysterious type, I thought with an eyeroll.
I picked up my violin and walked out of my house with the boys at my side. There was a neighbor across the street staring at me as he watered his tree shrubs. He was a good friend of my parents, and no doubt he heard their screams.
I didn’t know why, but I felt no remorse for my dead parents. I felt no regret for killing them. Perhaps it was a little perk about being a demon, losing some of your emotions.
We got to the airport and I was led to a private jet, where I saw a big group of people standing in a circle.
“Shit, we’re late.” Rudolph murmured and quickened his pace. I had to almost jog to keep up with him, but Skylar seemed to be able to keep in step with him.
We got to the circle and Rudolph pushed two people apart and made me stand between them. There was a woman standing in the middle that appeared to be my age.
She was very beautiful, with deep purple-red hair that fell past her breast, and black eyes with a bright gold ring going around the putter iris. She wore a ring on her septum, which stood out from her pale, but not pasty, skin.
Her clothes consisted of a tight white button up with a short black vest pulled over which stopped at around her belly button. She also wore some loose black slacks and black heels peaked out of the bottom.
"Why hello, dear." she greeted, looking straight at me. I gave her a smile, but internally shivered. She sure was intimidating.
"Hi," I replied, almost shyly.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Headmaster Haven, also the founder of Bound Boarding School. The people around you are the ones who also completed the transition in this past week." she informed and I nodded.
I tried to take a small step back, but happened to bump into somebody's chest. I glanced back and saw Rudolph looking down at me with a reassuring smile. Next to him was Skylar, who was staring down at me with what it looked to be a smile, but I wasn't exactly sure.
Rudolph put a hand on my lower back and scooted me back to where I was originally.
"Now where was I?" Haven prompted. One of the other students raised their hand to speak, but didn't wait to be called on.
"You were talking about where we'll be sitting in the jet." he reminded. I looked him down. He had black hair that was styled in such a way it was very attractive, and large black gauges peaked out from the sides of his hair. He had a crooked smirk with spider bites on the right side. His eye color was a very normal demon color, green with little specks of gold, but his pupil was what stood out. It wasn't shaped in the way it should, it kind of curved into a C shape. I've never seen that in any books or anything that I've read.
Haven clapped her hands to get everyones attention again.
"Ah that's right, thank you Cookie." I raised an eyebrow at that and an amused smile pulled on my lips. Cookie. What a strange name.
Haven gestured to a piece of paper in her hands.
"We are going to have assigned seating. You will sit next to your guardian," I was poke in the back by Rudolph, which told me he was my guardian. "And I'm also going to pair you up with someone so you can befriend them. Please raise your hand when I say your name then head to the jet with your guardian. Security committee can go to their jet." I turned in confusion on who the security was and was Skylar walking away.
"He was a security guard?" I questioned Rudolph and he beamed down at me.
"Yeah but he's also one of my good friends so you'll be seeing him around I'm sure." he explained. "Now listen up to Headmaster." he ushered and I turned back around.
"Autumn and Winter." two girls who stood next to each other looked at her confused.
"But we're twins?" one of them started.
"With only one guardian." the other one finished. Haven shrugged not caring.
"It's what is written down. Now please go to the plane." the girls went into the plane unwillingly.
I noticed that there were just a few people left. Cookie, a girl with short fluffy hair, a guy with bleach blonde hair, attractive guy number two, and attractive guy number three.
"Mae and Moon," the girl stepped up and the guy with bleach blond hair did as well. Without a word they grabbed their belongings and went into the Jet, two other guys following after.
"Cookie and Jean," Cookie took a step forward with a black duffle bag in hand, and attractive guy number two stepped towards the middle. Cookie sent Jean a small smile and they made their way into the jet, a girl and a guy following.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't sad to not sit next to Cookie. He really attractive!
"Last but not least, Snow and Adam." I gave attractive guy number three- I mean Adam a grin and then glanced back at Rudolph. He raised his brow.
"Aren't ya gonna go?" he said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes at him, but made my way towards the Jet door with my violin in hand. I saw Adam follow behind us.
When I got in the plane, I searched for a seat, and saw that the seating was that we would face each other. I found seats in the very back of the jet. Rudolph hitched my bag and books- which was all carried by him thankfully- into the little cubby above us. Then he sat down by the window and I sat next to him, setting my violin down next to me.
Adam and his guardian did the same, except Adam had no books or violin, but he had a laptop and some music equipment.
I decided to take this opportunity to get a good look at him. he had black, no very dark brown choppy hair that went across his face smoothly. He had a little more color in his skin than I did, and his eye color was an ocean blue, with some metallic silver running around his pupil line. He had a black nose ring on the right side of his nose and when he turns his head you could see he had small tapers in his ears.
He was tall, probably a good six foot two or so. He had a models build, but mostly everyone else did too. What caught my eyes most was the shirt he was wearing. It was black, with the big blue words, ‘Pierce The Veil’ written plastered on it. His pants were dark wash jeans that were fitting to his figure, and a belt that had little marijuana leafs all over it.
He situated himself in front of me while his guardian sat in front of Rudolph and gave him a firm handshake. His guardian had bright blue eyes and messy short hair. He had a smile resting on his full pale lips. He had colorful tattoos peeking out of his green short sleeved ‘Mountain Dew’ shirt. He had on a pair of light blue loose skinny jeans with a black leather belt.
“How goes it?” he asked in a british accent. Rudolph shrugged.
“She’s just treating me like I’m her bitch. But she’s hot so it’s okay.” he winked at him. I glared at him and slapped his arm.
“I’m not treating you like anything!” I retorted and he barked a laugh.
“Whateva’, Princess. How’s yours, Neo?” he continued talking to him. Neo glanced at Adam and pouted.
“He won’t stop asking me for my headphones because he was stupid enough to forget his. Other than that quite well. I walked in on him eating ramen in front of his parents,” Neo shuddered. “Creepy.”
Adam shot Neo a look.
“Not my fault you don’t knock. And rushed me out of the door.” Neo facepalmed at him.
“One does not eat ramen in front of mutilated parents!” he commented and shook his head. I couldn’t help but to giggle at their silly little argument. They both stared at me, Neo in amusement and Adam in confusion.
“Why are you laughing?” Adam asked, curious. I pointed at him and smiled.
“One does not eat ramen in front of mutilated parents!” I repeated Neo’s words, in a deep dorky voice. Adam couldn’t help but to laugh at my awesomeness.
It was then that Haven got our attention.
“Alright, I forgot to add something. Some of you may be happy, but some of you may not! The people you are partnered with are your roommates as well! Your guardians will be rooming with you as well.” Rudolph snickered and fistbumped Neo. I glared at him. “That is all, now let’s have a nice flight! We will be going to Bridgetown, Barbados. Well, about five miles away from there.” Some of the new students cheered, but I sat there silently. There was a certain known trait I have. I am horrible at geography.
I poked Rudolph and he looked at me with an eyebrow raised.
“Uh... where is that?” I whispered to him, hoping nobody but him would hear. Neo cracked up laughing though as did Rudolph. But Rudolphs laugh was more loud and annoying.
“Oh my. You are such a blonde sometimes. It is in the Caribbean, Princess.” Rudolph finally said. Realization dawned on me and I clapped my hands together excitedly.
“That is so awesome!” I giggled. Adam shook his head but smiled. I remembered something. “Oh!” I stood up for a second and took my IPod out of my pocket. I undid the headphones and handed them to Adam.
“Really?” Adam asked unsure, but his eyes were brightened. I nodded.
“I’m pretty sure I packed another pair in my bag, so you can keep these.” he grinned and slowly took them out my hand.
“Awesome! Beats!” he quickly took his own IPod out of his pocket and plugged them in. “Thank you.” he said really loudly after he put the buds in. I smiled and nodded. He probably didn’t realize just how loud he was, which was kind of really funny.
I gave him a thumbs up, knowing he wouldn’t be able to hear me.
I was still standing, so I got one of my Naruto books out of my little cubicle and sat back down in my spot. Now, I’ve read this book about one thousand times, but to me it never got old.
Rudolph looked curiously over my shoulder as I flipped to the first page. I looked up at him and smiled.
“Wanna read this one?” I offered and he snatched the book out of my hands. I gave him an irritated look, to which he ignored.
“Hells yeah I do.” he finally said after scanning the front cover. I rolled my eyes and laughed. Neo looked over at it and took it out of his hands to look closer at it.
“Can I read it??” Neo begged. “I’ve always wanted to read this series! I saw one episode once, and fell in love.” I felt my eyes brighten. Adam noticed what was happening around him and took an earbud out.
“I’ve read the whole series. One of the best out there in my opinion.” he added in before resuming listening to his music, which was King For A Day by Pierce The Veil. I could hear it so clearly it was crazy. And cool.
I sighed.
“I guess I’m gonna take a nap then?” I decided on and leaned my chair back.
I never did doze off. I forgot that demons never slept. Like, ever.
