Chapter 10: Dark Knowledge...

(No ones POV)

It has been just two days since (y/n) and Scaramouche moved to Hekapoo's place to hide for a while. In that short spam of time, (y/n) filled almost every single wall of Hekapoo's walls with different types of notes. He was trying to find clues or valuable information inside his grandfather's books. However, just like with the first book, (y/n) wasn't able to read their words. The books had some kind of enchantment that allowed him to grasp the ideas of their content. But that was not enough... (y/n) needed to know "how to reach the results of those topics" and not just "the results". It was like trying to solve a math problem without knowing the correct methods to solve the equations. You can have the result right in front of your face but if you don't know the formula, you won't be able to replicate the method and reach that result yourself.
But why was (y/n) trying to completely understand the books of his grandfather? How would that help him in his current situation? Well, (y/n) thought that maybe by understanding more about the investigation of his grandfather, he would be able to fully understand what the assassin that killed his father is after. Even if that information proves to be useless to find the murderer, it could at the very least help (y/n) prepare some kind of defense against whatever the assassin is preparing itself for.

Right now (y/n) was alone inside Hekapoo's house, attempting to read the books of his grandfather with little to not results.
Hekapoo had to continue with her duty as a member of the magical high comission to avoid raising suspicions. The reason for this is that if the assassin was inside the castle and Hekapoo suddenly went missing after his last attempt of killing (y/n), it might give the assassin a clue of where to look for (y/n). However, Hekapoo left a few clones outside the house to keep an eye on (y/n). So it's not like if she left him with no forms of protection before leaving.
Meanwhile, (y/n) sent Scaramouche to keep an eye at the castle to look for any kind of "suspicious activities". (y/n) also couldn't concentrate with Scaramouche singing or vibing with his style. So, it was a way to kill two birds with a single pebble.

(y/n): Ugh... This is getting nowhere.

(y/n) said to himself in frustration. Despite his efforts, he was making no progress with this little investigation. It was like operating in a fog. You know what you are looking for but you have no clue how to find it...
(y/n) tossed the book he just "finished" reading with the rest of the pile. He was tired and losing hopes of actually succeeding with this. However, the very last book caught (y/n)'s attention.
The last book of his Grandfather's collection
was covered with black leather and it had what it seems to be the logo of a dragon's skull on the cover

(y/n): Huh... You seem a bit different than the others.

(y/n) said while picking the book.

(y/n): Please don't be another book about biology or archeology.

(y/n) opened the book to see the content inside of it. However, what he found inside was quite... Unexpected.

(y/n) was very confused. Just like with the other books, (y/n) could not understand a single word written on it's pages. But at the same time, this book was not transmitting any kind of information into his head like the others. Not to mention that the language of this book was completely different than the one used for the other books.
(y/n) flipped to the next page of the book. However, he was surprised to see that the next page was completely empty. Not a single word or stain of ink on it.

(y/n): What the-

(y/n) flipped more pages but there was nothing more in the book than that short text. For a moment (y/n) thought that it was probably a bad joke from his grandfather. However, that quickly changed when he went back to the first page of the black book and saw the text missing.

(y/n): I... I think I'm so tired that my brain is playing me tricks. Yeah, that must be it.

(y/n) said to himself in an attempt to calm himself down.
He thought for a moment about closing the book and forget about it. But... Something was not right about this. (y/n) felt like there was actual value on this book despite how scary it was getting.
Against any semblance of common sense, (y/n) flipped to the next page of the book and to his surprise, this time there was text on it.

(y/n): Are... Are you alive?

(y/n) asked to the book. At this point, he was unsure about what to expect.

(y/n): If you are... I can't understand you.

(y/n) waited for a moment to see if the book was going to react or something and he was right. The icons and symbols on the page were quickly changing to actual letters and words that (y/n) could read and understand. Now the words that the book was making appear on its own pages were easy to understand.

𝕀 𝕒𝕡𝕠𝕝𝕠𝕘𝕚𝕫𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕝𝕚𝕖𝕣.
𝕀𝕥'𝕤 𝕛𝕦𝕤𝕥 𝕒 𝕓𝕒𝕕 𝕙𝕒𝕓𝕓𝕚𝕥...

𝕄𝕪 𝕟𝕒𝕞𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕎. 𝔻. 𝔾𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣.

(y/n) could not believe what was happening... He was actually having a conversation with one of his grandfather's books. Despite the unreality of the situation, (y/n) thought that this was the best opportunity to get some useful information.

(y/n): Okay... Gaster...

(y/n) was still a bit unsure of what to say. It was hard to know what topics could be offensive for an enchanted book that used to belong to a crazy wizard...

(y/n): What kind of knowledge do you have?

(y/n) was direct with his question. Going around the matter may not be a good idea and it could be annoying for both the book and for (y/n).
He waited for a couple of seconds while the book was writting an answer on its pages.

𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕕 𝕠𝕗 𝕜𝕟𝕠𝕨𝕝𝕖𝕕𝕘𝕖?
𝕎𝕖𝕝𝕝, 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕒 𝕤𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕝𝕖 𝕢𝕦𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟...

(y/n)'s eyes went wide open after reading those words. He probably found the most important book inside of his grandfather's collection. A book that contains all knowledge... No wonder this was hidden.

(y/n): That... Is breathtaking. Just thinking about the possibilities of having that kind of knowledge... It's almost too good to be true.

(y/n) then had a very negative thought. What if the book was lying to him? In one hand, the book wouldn't be gaining anything from lying to him. But in the other hand, that book used to belong to a man who everyone thinks has gone mad at least twice.

(y/n): Can you prove it?

(y/n) asked with an raised eyebrow. Then, once again, he waited for the book to writte an answer. But what the book had on his pages made (y/n) stand up from his chair in surprise.

(y/n): T-Those are-

Gaster showed (y/n) every icon and symbol that was on the books of Urubin's collection, along with the Mewman alphabet on the page next to it. (y/n) has been trying to decipher those symbols for two days and no matter what he tried, (y/n) could not find a similar language to use as a base to attempt a translation on his own. And yet, Gaster just showed (y/n) what letter represents each symbol... He had the knowledge (y/n) so desperately wanted.

(y/n): By the maker! You were telling the truth! H-How do you know this stuff?! I could not find even a similar language to the one inside those other books!

(y/n) was quickly taking notes of the symbols and the Mewman alphabet to later finally be able to obtain the full content of Urubin's collection. Gaster patiently waited for (y/n) to finish before writting a new answer on itself. Once (y/n) was done with his notes, Gaster started to repply to his previous question.

𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕠𝕟 𝕠𝕗 𝕨𝕙𝕪 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕𝕟'𝕥 𝕕𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕡𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕤𝕪𝕞𝕓𝕠𝕝𝕤 𝕚𝕤 𝕓𝕖𝕔𝕒𝕦𝕤𝕖 𝕚𝕥 𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕤 𝕗𝕣𝕠𝕞 𝕒𝕟 𝕒𝕟𝕔𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕝𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕦𝕒𝕘𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕨𝕒𝕤 𝕔𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕚𝕟 𝕒 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕟𝕠 𝕝𝕠𝕟𝕘𝕖𝕣 𝕖𝕩𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕤.

(y/n) thought about that for a moment... Knowledge that no longer exists? What does that mean? Could it be knowledge that got lost with the pass of time? What Gaster was trying to offer (y/n) was only confusing him.

(y/n): I would make more questions... Is that even possible? How can you obtain knowledge that no longer exists? That sounds like a paradox rather than a reality...

(y/n) was now waiting to see what kind of repply was Gaster going to give him. (y/n) had his doubts but Gaster already proved itself once so... (y/n) decided to remain open minded to the next answer.
After a few seconds, Gaster gave (y/n) a new reply.

𝕀𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕡𝕠𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕕𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕗𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕕.

(y/n) was carefully reading to each word. He didn't dared to interrupt Gaster either from how interesting all of this was or from a scientific point of view.

𝔸𝕟𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕖𝕤 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕔𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕖𝕤 𝕥𝕠 𝕖𝕩𝕚𝕤𝕥 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕟 𝕓𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕤 𝕚𝕥 𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕠 𝕖𝕩𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕔𝕖 𝕚𝕤... 𝔻𝕒𝕣𝕜𝕟𝕖𝕤𝕤.

(y/n): Darkness...?

(y/n) quietly asked while trying to process everything that Gaster has been telling him.

𝔻𝕒𝕣𝕜𝕟𝕖𝕤𝕤 𝕖𝕩𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕤 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕨𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕙𝕒𝕤 𝕖𝕩𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕝𝕠𝕟𝕘 𝕓𝕖𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕖 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕖𝕝𝕤𝕖.

(y/n) sat back on his chair while cleaning some sweat from his forehead. From what Gaster has been telling him, it's possible to obtain things and knowledge that have been missing since the begining of life itself across all of time and space... It was very overwhelming.

With all of that (y/n) could improve the life of Mewni to levels beyond anything he has ever imagined in his life.

(y/n): Can you teach me how...?

(y/n) asked while staring at the pages of the book. However, this time it took a bit longer for Gaster to answer.

𝕀 𝕔𝕒𝕟 𝕠𝕟𝕝𝕪 𝕥𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕙 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕙𝕠𝕨 𝕥𝕠 𝕖𝕩𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥 𝕜𝕟𝕠𝕨𝕝𝕖𝕕𝕘𝕖 𝕗𝕣𝕠𝕞 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕕𝕒𝕣𝕜𝕟𝕖𝕤𝕤.

(y/n) froze for a second... He had the key to infinite knowledge in front of him and yet, it was out of reach.

(y/n): I... I understand.

(y/n) was eager to get that ticket to omniscience. But maybe there were some kind of precautions or preparations needed before gaining that knowledge. It was better to listen to the book that knows it all rather than act recklessly and end up in a horrible situation...
But then, (y/n) remembered why he was doing all of this... The reason why he was looking through all of Urubin's books.

(y/n): Gaster... Can you tell me who killed my father and what are they after?

This was the perfect opportunity to unravel the mystery and finally put an end to all the troubles caused by the killer. However, Gaster's answer was not what (y/n) was hoping for.

𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕤𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕 𝕀 𝕒𝕟𝕤𝕨𝕖𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥?
𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕒𝕝𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕪 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕟𝕖𝕔𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕒𝕣𝕪 𝕥𝕠𝕠𝕝𝕤 𝕥𝕠 𝕕𝕚𝕤𝕔𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕡𝕝𝕖𝕥𝕖 𝕔𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝕌𝕣𝕦𝕓𝕚𝕟'𝕤 𝕔𝕠𝕝𝕝𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟.

(y/n) got a bit furious and impatient. He wanted those answers now and he wanted to make that criminal pay as fast as possible.

(y/n): And what about my father's killer? Do I just deal with it on my own too?

(y/n) asked Gaster with a tone of anger in his voice. But unlike with the previous reply, Gaster answered faster this time on its pages.

𝕄𝕪 𝕕𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕗𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕕... 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕒𝕝𝕨𝕒𝕪𝕤 𝕙𝕒𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕒𝕟𝕤𝕨𝕖𝕣 𝕚𝕟 𝕗𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝕪𝕠𝕦.

ℝ𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕦𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕥𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 𝕠𝕗 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕠𝕨𝕟 𝕔𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟.

This answer puzzled (y/n)... The majority of his work got burned to a crisp inside his home and he didn't worked too much inside the castle yet. Or at the very least, not with something important. Which of his creations could contain the answer that he is looking for? Definitely not Scaramouche...
That's when realization striked (y/n). The answer that lays within the castle... That one invention that remained inside the castle since (y/n) showed it to the queen...

(y/n): The archive!

(y/n) yelled outloud in shock. He then facepalmed for not realizing it before. That device he created can record many events not only related to the royal familiy. But it can also record events that took place within the castle of Mewni. And since the archive wasn't fully developed yet, almost no one knew about its existence. The answer has been all this time under his nose and he didn't even thought about it.

(y/n): Gaster, thank you!

But this time... There was no answer from Gaster. The pages of the black book remained completely empty.

(y/n): Gaster...?

(y/n) asked while flipping through the pages in hopes of finding some kind of response. But after a minute or two, (y/n) understood that maybe Gaster ran out of time to speak with him. After all, he previously stated that he was a bit restricted to interact with this realm.
(y/n) still had many questions for Gaster. But right now, he finally had a way to get ahead in this game of cat and mouse and he had to take it before it was too late.
He rushed quickly towards the door. But when he opened it, his path was blocked by a familiar robot.

Scaramouche: Well, helloooooooooo my lovely mas-AAAH!!!

(y/n) quickly yanked Scaramouche inside the house and closed the door. Luckly, Hekapoo's clones didn't notice that.
(y/n) forgot that the house was being protected by Hekapoo's clones. If he tried to leave, she would arrive in no time to stop him.

Scaramouche: Please be more careful with the gorgeous body you forged with your two capable hands, master.

(y/n): Sorry... It's just...

(y/n) looked at Scaramouche and then at Gaster's book on the table. He wanted to tell Scaramouche everything that happened in this few hours and about the revelations that his new friend gave him. But maybe... Maybe it would be better to keep that as a secret for now. Even for (y/n) it was quite shocking and Scaramouche would probably have a harder time trying to understand too.

Scaramouche: It's just... What?

Scaramouche asked while placing a hand under his chin.

Scaramouche: You want me to show you moves to leave that hot stuff outside breathless?

(y/n): N-No! Listen... I finally know how to discover who the murderer is.

Scaramouche: Then let's tell your babe and-

(y/n): Wait! Listen!

(y/n) shouted while stopping Scaramouche from heading to the door.

(y/n): The answer is in the new royal archive. Only I know how to search what we are looking for and...

Scaramouche crossed his arms while looking down at (y/n).

Scaramouche: And you want to keep your beloved out of danger.

(y/n) didn't say anything to refute what Scaramouche said.

Scaramouche: ...Alright.

Scaramouche said while grabbing his portal scissors from his pocket.

Scaramouche: But if something happens I'm taking you out of that castle and I'll tell the hot stuff what you did.

(y/n): Then for the sake of not getting my hair burned, let's pray that for once everything will play smoothly for us.

(Time Skip)

Both (y/n) and Scaramouche made it to the royal archive thanks to the portal scissors that Scaramouche had. Hekapoo gave him those scissors so he could go back to the castle and then back to her home at any time. So Hekapoo shouldn't be able to find out about what they were doing inside the castle.
Right now both Scaramouche and (y/n) were walking through the dark archive. A half of the mechanical hands were not operating yet. Before this whole mess, (y/n) wanted to test if he could make some of the devices make recordings across different dimensions or even through some parts of time. However, Hekapoo didn't knew how to help and Omnitraxus... Let's say that for a being that can control time, his agenda didn't had time to spare.

Scaramouche: How many of this things are in the archive...?

Scaramouche asked while looking around the place for any sign of danger.

(y/n): In total? Only eight. Working? Only four...

(y/n) said while heading towards the mechanical hand that was in charge of recording the events inside the castle.

(y/n): Okay... I'll start checking here through the papers to see what I can find. You keep your eyes open and at any sign of danger, we run like cowards.

Scaramouche: You got it baby!

Scaramouche stayed behind (y/n) while looking at the only entrance to the archive. Meanwhile, (y/n) was quickly reading through the papers written by his creation.
Luckly for him, since the archive was still not fully developed, it wasn't visited very often. So (y/n) had a lot of time to read calmly through the many records of events that took place within the castle.
As the time was passing, the more anxious (y/n) was growing to finally learn the answer to his biggest question... Who killed his father? At this point he didn't even cared why... All (y/n) wanted was to finally be able to make justice for what was taken away from him.

But then... (y/n) finally made it to the part where his father was murder. But the more he read through the text, the more he wanted to think it was a lie...

(y/n): It can't be...

(y/n) covered his mouth from the utter horror he felt while reading more and more. But while (y/n) was reading through what it seemed to be a horror story... (y/n) failed to notice a hand that was raised in the air behind him.

**SLAP**

(y/n) let out a yelp in pain. The back of his head was smoking a bit from the slap hit. He quickly turned around, only to see an angry Hekapoo tapping her shoulder. She was probably waiting for a good explanation.

Scaramouche: I'm sorry master... But I know it's better to not mess with an angry kitten. Especially if that kitty is a hot girl who can melt my skull.

Hekapoo: (y/n)... You are in big trouble.

(y/n): How did you-

Hekapoo: Instinct. Plus, some of my clones thought that you were taking too long inside the bathroom and neither of them saw you leaving the house.

(y/n) rubbed his shoulder and looked away.

(y/n): Look... I'm sorry.

Hekapoo: I know that you want to find answers. But is not worth it if you have to risk your safety for it.

Hekapoo then out of nowhere gave (y/n) a big hug.

Hekapoo: I'm just glad that nothing happened to you.

(y/n) hugged Hekapoo back. He needed the affection right now after what me learned thanks to the archive.
But after a few seconds, both pulled back from the hug.

Hekapoo: Did you at least found what you are looking for...?

Hekapoo asked in concern. She knew that (y/n) was frustrated and she didn't wanted to see him suffer any longer with this horrible chain of events.

(y/n): ...No.

Hekapoo let out a sigh and looked down at the floor. From her point of view, the risk that (y/n) took by stepping back into the castle was for nothing.
However, little did she knew that (y/n) was lying... He just learned who was the killer.

But that begs the question... Why? Why would (y/n) lie?  What was going through his mind to lie about the truth that he wanted to find for so long?

(y/n): Let's just leave... Okay?

Hekapoo just nodded with her head and opened a new portal with her scissors. But while the three of them were leaving, (y/n) was thinking of something... His revenge.

(Time Skip)

Hekapoo was scolding her clones outside her house for failing at a simple task. Meanwhile, both Scaramouche and (y/n) were back inside.

Scaramouche: Well, that trip was a waste of time...

(y/n): Not completely.

(y/n) said before giving Scaramouche a piece of paper. Scaramouche picked it confused and he started to read what was written on it.

Scaramouche: Ingredients? What...? You want to make some weird salad for a diet? Babe, you are already quite slim.

(y/n): Just go and bring those ingredients to me.

(y/n) ordered to Scaramouche. The very stylish robot just quickly went to the door and left the house. Once Scaramouche left, (y/n) let out a sigh and sat in the couch.
The door of the house opened again. This time it was Hekapoo the one who walked in. She saw (y/n) sitting on the couch alone and looking a bit conflicted. She sat next to him to see if she could do something to help him.

Hekapoo: You want to talk dude?

(y/n): No...

Hekapoo was about to make another question. But suddenly, (y/n) rested layed the back of his head on top of Hekapoo's lap. He was staring at the ceiling with a very tired look on his eyes.

(y/n): Today was too overwhelming... I need to rest...

(y/n) said while his eyes were slowling closing.

Hekapoo: I...

Hekapoo was a bit embarrased about being used as a pillow. But while taking a look at (y/n)'s face... She thought that it wasn't so bad. An small smile grew on her face while she gentlely started to stroke (y/n)'s hair with one hand while keeping her other hand on top of (y/n)'s chest.

Hekapoo: Alright... Just this time.

Hekapoo said while keep stroking (y/n)'s soft hair. After a couple of minutes, (y/n) fell completely asleep. Hekapoo didn't wanted to admit it. But she thought that he looked cute while sleeping. In fact, it was a bit contagious.

Hekapoo let out a yawn and felt how her eyelids were slowly closing. It didn't took her too long to fall asleep along with him.

Despite everything that happened today, (y/n) finally had a moment of peace to enjoy.
...

...
...
But the peace never lasts too long.
(y/n) had a plan to take revenge against his father's killers. He could just go and get rid of that person right now... But (y/n) had other plans for his father's murderer.

But for now, he was going to wait a little. At least until all the pieces are in the right place.

Once everything is prepared... Justice will be finally at his reach.

The next chapter might get a little darker. But I mean, that is the path that this story is getting.
