Heart Shaped Love - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
(Jaxon’s POV)
I had set an alarm the night before to wake me up at a quarter to 10. Today I was headed to Cassidy’s house to help with painting her families new house. She is the only friend I have that is a girl and I wanted to make a good impression on her family. I know that they sort of already met me at the paint store, but I want to be friends with her for a long time; she’s just really chill around me and is fine just laughing and joking around. Most girls I know only want one thing – and that’s sex. However, I know that Cassidy isn’t like that, and that’s what I like about her.
When my alarm clock went off, I quickly got out of bed, pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a loose grey tank top and headed downstairs.
I directed myself into the kitchen and got to work. Last night I had an idea; I was going to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I had baked a couple things before but nobody knows that about me, not even Lexi.
I was mixing all the ingredients in a bowl when Lexi came downstairs. “What the hell are you doing?” she asked in a calm voice while leaning on the island.
I stopped mixing and looked up at my sister. “I am going over to the Parr’s in an hour and I am bringing homemade chocolate chip cookies. The only problem with that is I actually have to make them, but they aren’t actually that hard to make. All I have to do now is put the cookies on the tray and put them in the oven.”
I quickly returned my focus back to the cookies and popped a tray of 24 into the oven for 10 minutes. The timer went off in no time and I took the tray out of the oven and placed it on it a cooling rack. Lexi startled me when she clapped me on the back. “They actually look really good Jaxon, who knew you could bake?” she stated.
“Not me, but it wasn’t that hard” I replied shaking my head pretending that this was the first time I had ever baked.
“Can I try one?” she asked reaching out to the pan of cookies I had just baked.
“Yea sure, and while you do that, I have to take a shower and get ready so after 10 minutes could you take the cookies off the pan and put them on a plate then cover it with saran wrap so they stay warm?” I asked while backing out of the kitchen.
“Sure” she answered while I bolted up the stairs to take a quick shower.
I quickly took a warm shower and brushed my teeth. I ran my hand through my hair a couple times until it looked somewhat okay and went back to my bedroom to get dressed. I changed into a pair of old jeans that still looked good, a white tank top and an old green checkered shirt. I threw on my outfit and grabbed my pair of black converse, heading down to the kitchen.
“You look nice, but you do know that you’re painting a house right?” Lexi nodded towards me as I entered the kitchen.
“Yes, I know that Lex. These are an old pair of jeans that I haven’t worn for a while and this shirt is a little old so I don’t care if it gets ruined” I replied. I check the tie seeing that it was 10:47am, grabbed the plate of homemade cookies and my cell phone, while grabbing my keys and heading out the front door.
I opened the driver door to my car and placed the plate of cookies in the passenger seat. Starting up the engine, I quickly backed out of the driveway and headed to the west side of town where the Parr’s lived.
When I arrived at Cassidy’s house 10 minutes later, I quickly noted that the house was an average two story home that looked just big enough for a family of 4 to live in. I grabbed the cookies I made after shutting off the car and headed towards the front door.
A little nervous, I rang the doorbell and a couple of seconds later, Mrs. Parr opened the door. “Hello, Mrs. Parr” I said with a slight smile.
“Oh nonsense, call me Gwen” she said shaking her head back and forth, “and don’t just stand there, come in. Come in.”
“Thanks” I replied stepping into the house. I followed Gwen into the living room and saw that they were ready to get started. Cassidy was sitting near the wall trying to open a can of paint while there was plastic wrap covering all of the furniture – which was pushed into a pile in the middle of the room. I turned to Mrs. Parr and passed her the plate of cookies. “Here, for your family”
“Oh thanks dear, but you really didn’t need to do that” she replied. I shrugged my shoulders telling her I wanted to and she hurried into what I presumed was the kitchen and quickly returned to the family.
“Hey Cass” I said acknowledging her with a quick wave. I looked her over and noticed that she looked cute; she was wearing a bright green bandeau with a loose white tank top and a pair of ripped black leggings that went just below her knees.
“Hey, glad you could make it” she replied while smiling in my direction before turning back to trying to figure out how to open the can of light green paint that was in front of her.
I quickly walked and squatted down beside her and grabbing the paint opener that was abandoned to the left of me. “Here let me” I said taking the can and quickly using the can opener to pop the lid off the can of paint with ease.
She shook her head in an embarrassed way. “Thanks, I really should have figured that out” she said as we both stood up.
I chuckled lightly and replied, “No worries.”
Her father entered the room with a bag of paint brushes and rollers while a little boy, who I presumed to be her little brother, followed closely behind him with the containers to hold the paint in. “Hello son, glad you could make it.”
“It’s no problem, and I was invited so thank you sir.” I replied shaking his hand.
“No need to call me sir; call me Luke”
“Sure Luke, do you need any help with that?” I asked gesturing towards the bag of supplies in his other hand.
He just shook his head in a negative way and continued to the edge of the living room, dropping the bag down before rubbing his back slightly.
“Who are you?” I heard a voice ask me. I turned around and saw that Cassidy’s little brother had put down the containers he was previously holding and was staring at me questioningly.
I put my hands into the front pockets of my jeans. “My name’s Jaxon and I’m one of Cassidy’s friends from school.” I replied to him.
“Are you her boyfriend?” he asked so bluntly.
“NO!” both me and Cassidy replied at the same time. I chuckled when I saw her horrified face.
“No” I replied again. “I’m just one of her friends. I also work at the paint store so your father invited me to come and help your family paint today”.
“Oh, okay. My name’s Elliot” he said, nodding his head in a welcoming gesture.
I shook my head and turned to face Mr. Parr. “Are we going to get started?”
“Yea sure, my wife, Elliot and I are going to be in the dining room painting there. Are you and Cassidy okay to paint this room by yourselves?” he asked me.
“Sure, I’ve painted a couple of houses before so it should be no problem”
“Okay then, see you kids later” he said and walked into the dining room where Mrs. Parr was showing Elliot how to paint the wall the proper way.
I turned to Cassidy and said, “Okay, so where do we start?” clapping and rubbing my hands together in an excited fashion.
“How about we start with this wall” she said pointing to the wall without a window on it “and then we just continue clockwise. Is that alright with you?”
I nodded in approval and went to go pick up a roller for me before turning back to Cassidy. “Roller or brush?” I asked holed up both.
“Brush” she said so I attached my roller to the proper handle and passed her a large brush before pouring the paint into one of the containers.
I started to paint the wall while Cassidy started on the other side of the wall doing a fairly good job. I put the roller down for one second and walked up behind her. “You are doing good except you shouldn’t put such a thick layer of paint on. Make the layer as thin as possible while still covering the old paint.” She tried again almost getting it so I put my hand over hers and spread out the paint that she had used covering almost twice as much as she had. I dropped her hand when she turned towards me. “There, now the colour isn’t so dark and it is in even strokes” I said nodding to the wall.
She smiled appreciatively at me. “Thanks Jax” she said, before turning back to the wall.
I bent down beside her to pick up my roller at the same time she had dropped her brush to the paint bucket that was right beside my face. “UGH!” I said tipping backwards landing my ass in another blob of paint that had landed on the floor.
Cassidy turned towards me with a horrified face but I could see it was fake – she was dying to laugh. When a giggle escaped her lips I sighed and crossed my arms, not bothering to get up from the floor. “You think this is funny?” I asked in a playful stern tone.
She shook her head while starting to laugh more. I started chuckling as well when I had an idea. I dipped my hands in the paint and stood up. Cassidy didn’t see me because her eyes were closed while laughing. I put one of my hands on her face and one on her back and she stopped abruptly. When I took my hands away she had a green handprint on the left side of her face and one on the right side of her white tank top. She was standing there surprised when I finally let my laughter out.
We both started laughing at each other because we were both covered in paint. “You should have…. seen….your face” I said between chuckles.
“Yea well…. yours probably wasn’t….. any better…..” she replied while sticking her tongue out at me.
After a couple of minutes when we both stopped laughing, we started painting the walls again instead of each other.
“So how was your first week at Westview High?” I asked Cassidy.
“Pretty good, I met your sister and she seems nice. I made some new friends, and I’m enjoying the art club so all in all, I like the school” she replied
“Cool” I said nodding my head.
After everybody was done painting there separate rooms, we were all sitting down on the plastic covered couch in the living room eating the cookies I had brought.
Cassidy took a bite of hers and sighed. “These are really good, where did you get these?” she asked.
“Umm…” I replied shyly while scratching the back of my head, “I made them this morning before I came here” I said in a voice just above a whisper.
“You made these” she asked, clearly shocked.
I nodded, kind of ashamed that she knew that I baked.
“You’re a really good cook then because these have got to be the best cookies I have ever tasted” she replied, bringing up my mood.
Her family mumbled agreements while eating their own cookies.
Once the cookies were gone, I stood up from the couch. “Thanks for today everybody, but I should be going now.”
“Nonsense, you come over anytime. Your always welcome here young man” Mrs. Parr replied.
“And bring more cookies” Elliot said with a full mouth of cookie crumbs he was still trying to swallow.
“I’ll try little man” I gave him a high five while walking to the door.
When I reached the door I felt a hand grab my arm. I turned around to see Cassidy smiling at me nervously. “Thanks for coming today Jax, I had a lot of fun and maybe I was wrong about you”
“Wrong about me?” I asked raising my left eyebrow questioningly.
“Well, I sort of thought you were a man-whore jerk who only cared about himself but you aren’t and I’m sorry I ever thought that” she said hanging her head in shame.
“It’s fine Cass, seriously”
“Okay, well I’ll see you Monday in class. Have a good weekend.” she said while I was heading out the door.
I turned around and looked down at her. “I’ll see you Monday” I replied and was going to head out the door.
Before I could turn away though, Cassidy went up on her tippy-toes and gave me a lingering kiss on the cheek. My eyes widened slightly by her action when she stepped down and smiled with a slight blush to her cheeks. “Bye” she said once again.
“Yea, bye” I replied with smile and a wave before turning and heading for my car.
When I was back home and parked in the driveway, I brought my hand up to my cheek and tried to stop thinking about the slight spark that was still lingering after Cassidy’s kiss. I dropped my hand and got out of the car with a smile on my face and headed to my room.

Sorry about the long wait… I was a bit busy over the last week and I apologize.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter and the next one will be the long one about Kylie/Zayn/Alenna/Zach which will switch perspectives quite a bit.
