Chapter One

I walked through the woods, leaves crunching beneath the soles of my shoes, tree's passing by, and the soft sound of birds in the distance. I slowed as I came to an opening and listened to the sound of the trees swaying and birds singing. I continued forward to the lake ahead of me, transfixed by the light glimmering on the surface. I knelt by the water and ran my fingers along the top, messing up the reflection of myself. I've always loved this place.

"Figured I would find you here."

I paused and watched as he walked down the slight hill to stand on the edge of the water a few feet away from me.

"I'm always here." I smiled watching the water ripple from my previous skimming along its surface.

"People worry about you." He stuck his hands in his jacket pockets looking out towards the sky.

My smile slipped as I glanced at his lean figure. "I'm fine." I muttered looking back at the lake's clear waters.

He chuckled, finally looking at me "That's not what it looks like." His brown hair moved with the soft wind covering up his jade green eyes. He always looked better when he was smiling. Frowning always brought wrinkles.

"Do you remember the time I ran away and-"

"Came here, where I found you." He smiled.

"We spent the night here and you told me-" I looked at him. "-that if I was ever to run away again to come get you-"

"So we could run away together." He chuckled, rubbing his upper lip. He always had a habit of doing that. "How could I forget?"

"You were always forgetful." I queried. He kicked water at me laughing.

"Please, who forgot my birthday?" I looked anywhere but him.

"It was one time, and I was sick!" I splashed water at his shoes.

"Hey! These are brand new!" I laughed as he shook his shoes like the water would dry that quickly. "I didn't even get a happy birthday." He muttered under his breath.

I snorted, "Happy birthday!" I gave fake enthusiasm as I threw my hands up- as if I jumped out to surprise him.

"You don't mean it." He kicked rocks as he spoke.

I rolled my eyes as I started standing up so my legs don't fall asleep, "When will you give this up?"

"When I die." He started picking up rocks and skidding them.

I frowned, "I don't want you to die." I didn't want that to happen. It'd ruin me.

He paused looking at me, "Hey.." He walked till he was in front of me. "I'm right here." He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me until I was against his chest. "I'm not going anywhere." I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed. He pulled back and looked into my eyes, making me look away. He made a whining noise before he brought his hands up to cup my face, making me look at him.

"Look at me." I stared into his green eyes that held so much truth and pain in them. "I'm not going anywhere. Got it?" I just stared at him as he whispered those words. He started nodding my head for me until I was laughing through my sniffles and nodding on my own. "Good, because it will take a lot to take me away from you." He kissed my forehead, chuckling.

He let go and started skipping rocks again. I watched him. He was my rock, he was my light in the dark, he was my moon to the night sky, he was my everything and more. If I were to lose him.. I would lose myself.

"Stop moping when I'm right here!" He picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.

I yelped. "Put me down!" I yelled through my laughter.

"Put you down?" I nodded. "Okay."

"No! No! NO! Put me down!" I squealed when he started walking towards the water. He walked in until it reached his mid cafe before looking at me. "Don't you dare." I hissed through my teeth.

"Too late." He threw me. I took a deep breath and met the water. Coldness wrapped around me as pressure pushed on my lungs for me to breathe. I swam to the top and gasped for air. I heard him swimming towards me before he entered my peripheral vision.

"No. Go away." I splashed water at his face.

He laughed coming closer, "Awe! Come on!" He grabbed my arm pulling me towards him.

"I hate you." I crossed my arms and pouted as he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer.

He laughed, moving my hair behind my ear "You love me." As much as I want to hate him, I couldn't. I could never hate him for long.

He kissed my cheek and I could feel him smile as he did. I laughed swimming away from him as fast as I could when he started tickling me. He caught up and tickled me until I couldn't breath. I wrapped my arms around his stomach and laid my head on his chest as I tried to catch the air I lost. This is a moment I want to live in forever.
