Twelve

Donny sat on the floor drawing something while Wilson was in the kitchen cooking a late lunch. A very late lunch.

"It's six in the evening. Wouldn't this count as dinner?" Gordon asked. Donny looked over at him and glared.

"No because some of us are still hungover and didn't have lunch. Wilson is cooking lunch and we will have dinner at midnight." Donny grumbled. Him and Gabe were the only ones still pretty hungover but they all agreed on a late lunch.

Gordon peered over Donny's shoulder to see what he was drawing. Donny pulled the sketch book to his chest and glanced over at Gordon.

"Don't look. I'm not done." He ordered. Gordon nodded at went back to minding his own business. They sat there in awkward silence until Gabe came into the room.

"Dude, my eye hurts." Donny snickered at him while Gordon rolled his eyes.

"And you thought Wilson couldn't get a hit on you." Gordon retorted. Donny let out a laugh and turned around to high five Gordon. "That was nice!"

Gordon stared at the outstretched hand and slowly brought his hand up and gently smacked it. "Uh, thanks. I guess." Donny turned back around with a huge grin on his face.

"So where's Alex and Notch?" Gabe asked.

"Notch went back to the castle to do some further investigation and Alex is back at the site trying to find clues." Gordon answered.

"Why didn't Notch go to the site to find clues?" Gabe questioned.

"Because Notch is processing some things back up at the castle."

Gabe's eyes widened as Gordon said that. "So he found some clues?" He asked excitedly.

"Uh...sort of. It's really hard to explain. But we may be getting closer to where Steve is." Gordon replied. Even though he was speaking regularly, Gabe could still hear the excitement in his voice.

Donny, who was ignoring this whole conversation, looked up from the sketch book and stared at the wall deep in thought.

"Where's Jill?"

"I think she's up helping Notch at the castle." Gordon answered once again.

Donny seemed satisfied by the answer and went back to drawing. Gabe rolled his eyes and started walking towards the door.

"Well I'm going to go help Alex. Yell when the food's done." Gabe walked out of the door and staggered at the sudden burst of sunlight. Eventually he regained his balance and walked down to where Alex was.

"So I guess it's just you and me." Gordon said referring to Donny.

"What does Herobrine's accomplice look like?" Donny asked. The question took Gordon by surprise and it took a minute before he could answer.

"Uh, I think she has brown hair and green eyes. But her eyes can change colors, too. Why do you want to know?" Gordon asked wanting to see what he was drawing because he knew it had something to do with his question.

Donny completely ignored Gordon's question. "Does she have long hair or short hair?" He asked with his eyes still glued to the book.

"Long. Again, why?" Again, his question was ignored.

Donny kept sketching away on the single piece of paper. Gordon became tired of the silence and hearing the strokes of the pencil so he decided to take off.

"I'm going to the castle." He said to Donny. The only reaction he got was the slight wave of his hand. Gordon rolled his eyes and walked out the door.

As he was making his way to the portal he could make out a person with bright red hair and a person with very dark brown on their head. He smiled over at Alex and Gabe even though they couldn't see him because he was just happy for the two. He continued on his journey to the portal and when he made it he jumped in.

After walking through the Aether and passing all the bright and colorful objects, Gordon finally made it to the castle. He went up series of stairs and through many hallways when he found the room he needed to go in. He entered the laboratory to see Notch conversing with one of the workers. Gordon sat to the side and waited until Notch was finished talking. Notch finally finished and walked over to Gordon.

"Hey," Gordon started,"did you find anything?" Notch just shrugged and shook his head.

"Not really. I know an enderman took him but he could still be anywhere. And  the attacker being an enderman doesn't help whatsoever because we can't identify it." Notch sighed and tilted his head back.

"No," Gordon said hopefully,"but can't the ender dragon identify it? I mean, he is the king." Gordon watched Notch to see what his reaction was. And apparently is wasn't what he expected.

"No. We cannot go to the Ender dragon. She and I do not get along. And yes, I said she." Notch added when he saw Gordon's confused face as he said she.

"You and her? Don't get along? Is there something I don't know about?" Gordon asked and secretly hoped it was what he was thinking.

"You just asked three questions and two of them were sentence fragments. But yes, me and her. Yes, we don't get along. And yes, there is something you don't know about." Gordon sat back and waited for Notch to give an explanation while Notch, being the stubborn person he was, sat and waited for Gordon to ask. Gordon sighed in defeat and asked the question. "And what is that something I don't know about?"

"A long time ago the Ender dragon and I secretly started dating. It went on for years until one day..." Notch trailed off making Gordon even more anxious to hear the rest of the story.

"Until?" Gordon asked making Notch snap out of his thoughts to continue the story.

"Until one day I asked her to come to the Aether and make our relationship public. But instead of the happy reaction I was hoping for...she started laughing. She asked if I was joking and when I said no she started shaking her head and saying that we both knew this wasn't a serious relationship. I thought it was and just left because I wanted a serious relationship. But, oh well. It wouldn't of worked out anyway. Why are you crying?" Notch asked worriedly at the grief stricken man.

"I'm not crying," he sniffled,"I have allergies. And that sad story didn't help." Gordon was holding back sobs as Notch chuckled at the pitiful guy.

"Good thing you're not the army commander." Gordon glanced up with his red puffy eyes and his eyebrow raised.

"Really? Because who is the person who runs everything while you're gone?"

"Abigail." He said with a smile. His secretary usually was the one who ran it so it wasn't exactly the wrong answer. Gordon just scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"So where's Jill?" He asked, still rubbing his eyes.

"She's in her office working on the Herobrine case." Notch paused with his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. "Wait, could Herobrine be behind this? Steve's kidnapping?"

Gordon sighed in exhaustion and shook his head. "Notch, he can't be. When Steve was taken, Herobrine was terrorizing some village. I know you want to solve both, but Herobrine isn't connected with this one. Trust me." Notch rubbed the top of his head while trying to configure everything.

"I trust you. Let's get out of the lab and just talk for a bit. I'm really tired of work right now." Gordon got up and opened the door for Notch. Notch smiled and dramatically bowed to Gordon. Once they were out and walking in the hallway, Gordon started the conversation.

"So is it just me or is there something going on between Gabe and Alex?" Gordon questioned with a smile playing on his lips. Notch let out a short laugh and grinned as well.

"No, it's not just you. I think Alex has found someone she truly likes. And I'm happy for her. Though, when Steve comes back he may not be too happy."

"And why's that?" Gordon asked in curiosity. This was the closest that the two have come to talking like regular guys.

"Because he's always been protective of her. See, he may not have powers like me or Hero, but he has excellent fighting skills. Alex is his little sister and he had to protect her while I was gone and during some of the harder times. So, yeah...he probably won't be too eager to see Gabe." Notch frowned at the thought but then smirked at the thought of Steve interrogating Gabe.

"Hm." Was all Gordon could reply. They kept walking down the hallway and ended up in front of Jill's office. Notch lightly knocked on the door three times and waited for an answer.
After a couple of seconds the click of a lock was heard and the door opened revealing a tired but still upbeat Jill.

"Woah, you need to get some sleep." Notch suggested.

"Well look who's talking." She retorted. Notch acted like an arrow went straight through his heart causing Jill to laugh at his dramatics.

"Well...I think I'm going to go. And leave you two here...alone...in her office...that can lock. Okay bye." Gordon quickly turned around and started to speed walk down the hall before Notch could say anything else. Notch rolled his eyes and turned back to Jill.

"So, you get anything?" He asked vaguely. Jill sighed and shrugged which Notch knew that meant she didn't have anything.

"But I do have something to show you." Notch followed Jill back into her office and sat down in one of the chairs near her desk. She sorted through piles of papers until she found the picture and gave it to Notch to look at.

Notch examined the picture in confusion. In one of the villages Herobrine and his accomplice recently attacked on a patch of ground something was scratched in the dirt. But as he looked closer he noticed that it was a symbol. It looked like a capital A but the horizontal line that ran through the middle extended a bit outwards. On the left side of the bar were two diagonal lines on top and two diagonal lines on the bottom. On the right a triangle that looked like a spear head was drawn making the line look like an arrow going through the 'A'. Notch peered back up at Jill still highly confused.

"What is this supposed to mean?" He asked.

"I honestly don't know. What I do know is that this isn't Herobrine's doing so it has to be the girl's trademark. But I have no clue what it means." Her tone of voice suggests that it was just another dead end. Notch looked over the picture one more time, not able to get his head wrapped around it.

Steve sat in the waiting room messing with whatever he could find. The magazines weren't interesting, the chairs weren't comfy, and the only thing Steve could actually use was the water dispenser and the little paper cups.

Steve decided to distract himself from being so bored. So he decided to plan his story for when he got back. So I was kidnapped by an enderman and somehow escaped. Where would I have escaped from? He asked himself. Steve looked around the room for inspiration when his eyes landed on a portrait of a forest. A forest! The enderman could've put me in a bag and taken me to a forest. But then what? Steve sat in thought for a moment when he glanced over at the water jug. Water! It could've been raining and that distracted the enderman enough to escape. Steve spent the rest of his time trying to enhance his story and make it more convincing.

And this is what he ended up with:

I was in the house when something outside caught my eye. I decided to go and check it out just to make sure it wasn't a stray zombie or something.

I took my wooden sword and ran out into the woods to check it out. I entered the clearing and didn't find anything but apparently there was an enderman readied behind a bush with a bow and arrow. It shot the arrow and it embedded itself in my back. I dropped my sword and the enderman came over and threw my in a sack. Then he also took my wooden sword with him.

We ended up in a forest when it started raining all of the sudden. The rain distracted it just enough while I hopped out of the bag and ran. I had no clue where I was going when I saw a small cottage. I asked for help and the father let me in. He had a daughter who lived with him and she was in her early twenties.

They said that they were leaving the next morning because there was a zombie nesting site close to the house. So the next morning we left and I said we could go to my house and they could stay with us for a bit. We travelled and travelled for days when we finally came to my house.

Steve was quite proud of his fake story of how he went missing. While congratulating himself the queen emerged from one of the doors.

"Dare's awake if you want to see him." Steve quickly got up, glad to be out of the waiting room. He entered the room to see Dare sitting on the bed and holding an ice pack to his head.

"Hey. How's your head?" Steve asked.

Dare groaned and was able to muster a shrug. "It hurts. A lot. How long was I out?"

"About two hours." Steve replied. One of the doctors came in and gave Dare the last healing potion he needed. After a couple minutes of taking it Dare's bump had gone down a bit and he looked better.

"So when do you think you'll leave?" Dare asked. Steve shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

"That's the thing. You and Casey are coming with me." Dare sat straight up and looked Steve in the eye.

"Casey and I are coming with you?" He said slowly as if he couldn't comprehend it.

Steve nodded eagerly. "Yeah and I made the perfect backstory where a random enderman gets me and I escape and end up at your guys' house-"

"Our house?" Dare's eyes widened as Steve nodded.

"Yeah, you and Casey. She's gonna be your daughter." Dare started choking as Steve said 'daughter'. "And you'll have to be in human form around Alex and Notch." Now Dare was coughing and trying to catch his breath.

Dare started breathing regularly after a few moments. Steve didn't understand why he was so worried or upset or whatever reaction that was.

"So let me get this straight- Casey is my daughter and you just happen to show up. Then we just go to your house? Isn't that a bit weird?" Dare asked.

"You really thing I'm that dumb?" When Dare gave him the 'Well, yeah' look Steve scoffed. "Well I'm not that dumb. There's more to it and I'll fill you in when Casey gets up."

"But why are we going?" Dare asked, emphasizing 'we' to him and Casey.

"You know about the Herobrine thing right?" Steve asked hoping he would so he wouldn't have to explain it all. Luckily Dare nodded. "Yeah where he has a girlfriend, right?"

"Yep, that's the one. She's getting stronger and Elaine wants you two and me to work together to stop Herobrine and...her." Steve fought the urge to say The Assassin because he knew it would cause more complication and chaos,

"But to stop him we would need Notch to help and he doesn't know about us being...you know." Steve sighed in agreement. This was so much harder than the beginning when all he had to do was put the chickens up.

"We will have to come clean in the end. It's going to be a huge mess, but I think it'll be well worth it. Especially if we finally get Herobrine behind bars."

Steve and Dare talked for a bit filling in some other details and sometimes just talking about random things. They kept conversing until Elaine came back in.

"It's nice to see that you are up. Casey is well and I think it's time you guys get prepared." Steve hopped up in a hurry, anxious and excited all at the same time. He ran over and helped Dare off the bed. He stumbled a bit at first but found his balance and could walk without Steve's support.

They followed Elaine into another room where Casey was reading a book on the bed. She looked over when the door opened and a wide grin formed when she saw Steve and Dare.

"Are you doing okay?" Steve asked in a soft tone.

"I'm doing really well." She assured them. Dare seemed to be more relieved by it than Steve. Steve noticed and elbowed Dare who turned his grin into a smirk.

"Good, cause I didn't get this bump for nothin'." She started laughing and the original grin appeared on Dare's face.

"Well now that everyone is alright, it's time to get prepared. My guards are situating the bags now so Steve, I'll need you to fill in everything for them." Steve forced a smile on his lips until Elaine left then he let out a groan.

"Okay, sit down because this is going to take a long, long time." Steve took in a deep breath and filled in everything.

He started by telling Casey what happened when they first made it to the castle then when Dare and him got into a fight. He told her about the force field and how Dare was knocked out trying to get out. Then he told both of them about the waiting room and how bored he was. Finally he told them the most important part about the very detailed backstory of how he went missing and why they were coming along with him. When Steve was finally finished he took several deep breaths. Casey and Dare just stared trying to sort out everything he'd just said.

"So...I'm his daughter?" Casey asked while pointing at Dare.

"Yes you are and I say that your bedtime is nine oh clock." Dare said with a sly smile.

"If you do that I'll be the rebellious daughter who goes out and goes to parties against your orders." Casey also had a sly smile that made Dare grumble and complain.

"Okay, okay. Enough of that. Let's go meet Elaine back in the throne room." Steve got up to help Casey out of her bed. Once she was on the ground the three walked out of the medic room and towards the throne room.

They walked in there to see Elaine ordering guards and saw three brown backpacks. Elaine finished talking to the guards and walked over to them.

"These bags are made for each of you. Steve, you don't have much so we just packed an extra set of your typical clothes. Mostly food and supplies are in there. Dare, you have a new wardrobe and so do you Casey. I'll need you to change into these." She handed Dare a set of clothes and Casey a set of clothes. Dare unfolded the shirt and looked at it in concern.

"Um...this shirt is a bit small."

"That's cause it's your human size. You'll have to change into a human." Dare groaned and stomped to the bathroom. Casey snickered and went into the girl's bathroom.

"Oh and I'll need that jacket. It shows that your part of the Resistance and I don't need Notch to figure that out." Steve slid the too big jacket off of himself and gave it to Elaine. She smiled and said thank you.

"Also, I'll come to your house at around midnight on some nights to give advice and you guys can get me caught up." Steve nodded but started to feel a bit uneasy. This was already a huge risk but meeting the Ender dragon secretly seemed like an even bigger one. Steve was pulled from his thoughts when Dare came up. Steve stood there in shock because he almost didn't recognize him.

He was still pretty tall for a human and had black hair with hints of gray that was closely shaved on top. His eye was still red but he was really muscular and had a strict face. He had his dark purple eyes that almost looked blue. He looked like an army general if you ignored his clothes. He was wearing a long sleeved blue shirt with some sports logo Steve didn't recognize, worn down blue jeans, and black boots.

"Wow. You're so much handsomer in human form." Steve gushed. Dare looked down at him with hatred in his eyes.

"I hate being human. They are so unusual." Dare shook his head still looking a bit awkward in his new body.

"You are going to be a retired army general." Elaine said. "You hurt your eye in battle if anyone asks." Dare grumbled and went to lean against the wall. Casey emerged from the bathroom and Steve couldn't keep his eyes off of her. When he glanced over at Dare he was glaring at Steve. He couldn't help but chuckle. Dare was already in character as the over protective father.

He returned to Casey who blushed at everyone staring at her. Her blonde hair was French braided down her back and her eyes glimmered. She was wearing a long sleeved tan v neck shirt with skinny jeans and combat boots. She also had a dark brown sleeveless vest that was unzipped. She actually looked like she could be related to Dare.

"You look stunning." Steve said. Casey looked over at Dare who was scowling at Steve. "Hey! You don't have to be in character yet!" Steve yelled over at Dare who's scowl deepened. Casey laughed along with Steve as Dare stared daggers at Steve.

"You will keep your names. It'll be Darrell and Casey Smith. And if they ask about the mom, say that she became sick when Dare got back from battle and ended up dying. It's a sad story but it's believable." Elaine added when all three of their mouths dropped open.

"Okay so who's ready to go to the Overworld?" The three went and grabbed their bags and followed Elaine to another room. In it was an end portal that led to the Overworld.

"You will spawn near the closest town to Steve's house. You will have to walk or ride horses the rest of the way. There's money in Steve's bag if you need anything." Elaine saluted the three and they saluted back. The climbed to the top of the portal and held each other's hands.

"On three," Steve started,"one, two, three!" And they jumped in.
