He had a blank expression on his face, looking uninterested at the things around him, and he was still standing because the teacher hadn't called him yet. His lean body was slightly slouched as he stood.

His dark brown hair was cut short, giving me a clear view of his face. His dark color eyes wandered off to the table that he was on.

My mind was trying to search for him if I've ever seen him before or not. If he did, why did I just realize him now?

"Alexander Howell," the teacher spoke up, and his head turned to the teacher, gave him a nod, and went to the second-row seat on the most right, far away from me.

Alexander Howell, I've never actually heard his name before. I tried to clear those thoughts away from me and tried to pay attention to the teacher, but I couldn't. My gaze would eventually end up at him repeatedly.

Before I knew it, the several classes had ended and I was back with Indiana and Grace. We were heading to the cafeteria for lunch. Due to the courtesy of me getting out of the last class a bit late, by the time we arrived at the cafeteria, most of the seats were taken.

I've apologized to them a few times, and Indiana assured me that it was all right, while Grace didn't seem to take it so well. The both of us followed behind Grace as she walked very quickly around the room, trying to find our seats.

I felt really guilty and didn't really have the appetite to eat anymore. As we passed a certain table, somebody called. "Yo, Indiana, Grace!" I turned to the source of the voice and saw a boy grinning and waving at us, I mean, Indiana and Grace. "You could sit with us."

Indiana laughed and looked at Grace and I. Grace nodded her head, and we went to their table.

"Thanks, Clark," Grace muttered, and the boy nodded his head. "We're gonna go and take our lunches."

We walked away from the table, and I felt better than before. I gained a little of my appetite, and I bought a fair amount of the lunch.

Going back to the table, we sat down, and I was sitting in between the girls. Facing me was the boy who called out on us.

I've often seen him in the hallways and he seemed to be very great in sports. If I wasn't wrong he's on the lacrosse team. The one thing I often noticed about him was that whenever his smiles, his sun-kissed skin always made his teeth look bright.

There were two other boys sitting beside him, both equally tanned. I'm guessing they're also from the team. The main boy introduced him and his friends to me. His name was Grayson Clark, and the boy with the buzz cut hair was Aidan Walker, and finally, the boy who looked the least tanned one was Mason Dunn.

It was very awkward to eat in front of them since I didn't know any of them. I slowly and carefully ate my lunch and made sure that there were no stains to make me look like an idiot in front of them.

"Wait, they had meatballs too?" questioned Grace as she looked at my lunch, which was spaghetti. I nodded my head, and she took her plate out. "Can I take one?"

Looking at the three meatballs hesitantly, I nodded my head and gave her a piece of meatball. She gave me a grin, "Thanks, Amaya."

You see, Grace had a thing with calling people by their last names, and eventually, Indiana also called me by my last name, which they thankfully pronounced it right.

"Amaya?" questioned Clark, repeating what Grace called me. "That sounds Japanese, are you one?"

I was in the midst of chewing my food, so once I again, I only nodded. "That's cool! Could you speak Japanese?"

I quickly swallowed my food and answered him. "A little, my dad's a quarter Japanese and my mom's half."

"That's amazing, dude," complimented his friend, who was sitting beside me. I thanked him. "So, is that your first name?"

I shook my head. "My first name is Aveline," I told them as I chuckled. "It's apparently a French name."

They kind of laughed along with me. Indiana looked up from eating for once and looked at my food. "They have meatballs? I didn't notice!" she exclaimed. I stared down at my remaining one and a half meatballs, and looked at her, nodding my head. "May I?" she asked and took the meatball from me.

"Sure," I said quietly after she took my food. I took a glance at the boys, who looked at me with soft expressions.

After a while, Grace spoke up. "Hey, Clark, you wanna finish the pasta? I can't finish them." Grayson accepted the plate but kept looking at me.

"You want?" he questioned.

I shook my head, "It's fine."

Despite what I said, he grabbed my tray and dumped some pasta into it. "Thank you. You didn't have to."

He shook his head. "I'm quite full already," he said, and he could've just given it to his friends. I glanced at Grace who took a second glance at me with an unreadable expression.

I started eating again, silently thankful for this event. My eyes wandered onto the rest of the cafeteria, and there he was, Alexander Howell, his body faced to me, only two tables away from me to my left.

When I glanced at him again, something surprising happened.

His eyes met mine.
