✤I✤

❦POV Jisung❦

As soon as I got out of my colleague's car, I was looking at the cloudless blue sky of this afternoon. Everything seemed so normal and quiet it troubled me. No one in this neighbourhood could imagine what was happening now, and what was about to happen soon in this so small and commonplace house of No.0325, District 9 in Hongdae, Seoul.
The house was that of the Bang family, composed of Christopher, the elder, 23, and his younger brother, Jeongin, 19. Their parents had been deceased for many years. They had been living there alone for all that time, and nothing unusual had ever happened. However, lately everything had changed.
As we walked through the house's white gate, I watched the garden's grass move under the effect of the light wind. There was an intense and captivating smell in the air, that of a very fragrant plant I knew well and that made my head spin. I noticed then the wisteria pots placed all around the house, whose long bunches fell to the ground, creating a kind of purple thread all around the home.
"Was it you who asked them to put these flowers?" I asked, while Minho watched the surroundings in silence.
Without answer, slowly, Minho turned my face towards his while, as always, I felt my heart beating like a out of tune drum in my chest. Despite myself, I was shivering. My partner knew what he was doing. It wasn't his first time, unlike me. His dark and beautiful eyes anchored in mine, he gave me an order.
"Once inside, don't do anything rash. If you have any doubts about anything, I want you to talk to me before you act."
Of course, I nodded.
I knew I was precious to him as much as he was precious to me.
As soon as we had met a week ago, we felt an intense connection between us, something rare, singular, indescribable and irrepressible. It wasn't just love at first sight, it was something more powerful, perhaps related to our respective gifts. The second our eyes met, we had the impression being the only two pieces of the same puzzle finally put together. We had kissed ardently that evening, and we could have gone further, if Minho hadn't fought his desire with all his soul.
Something had held him back, preventing him from touching me more. He had explained to me he'd had a painful experience with his previous partner and didn't want us to get closer like that for the time being. That's why he had made this choice for both of us.
He had told me this by slowly moving away from me, leaving me alone with that emptiness, lack, that awful feeling of frustration and helplessness that haunted me for hours after he left. But I knew he was right. We had to complete this mission before we could think of anything else. Even though it seemed ordinary, the mission could turn out to be much more dangerous than we had expected.
In our profession, love and work didn't go hand in hand. Thereby, for my first mission, Minho didn't want to take the slightest risk. He wanted us to focus on nothing else.
As I climbed the three steps leading to the house's porch, I felt a penetrating cold creeping into my legs. Something had crossed this place's threshold, it was undeniable. Even I, whose first mission it was, could feel it clearly. Christopher Bang had done well to call us... it was obvious that something was wrong here.
Suddenly, Minho knocked three times on the door.
Several minutes passed before a young man opened the door. He knew we were coming, but he was still confused and above all, terribly anxious. This was normal. I could easily put myself in his place.
"Christopher Bang?" My colleague asked.
With a sigh, he nodded while I noticed the scratches he had on his neck, as well as on his right cheek.
"I'm Lee Minho and this is my colleague Han Jisung. We were sent by the shrine you contacted a few days ago. Do you give us permission to enter?"
"You're not going to hurt him, are you?"
Minho looked Christopher in the eyes for a long time, as if he was trying to talk to him silently. I understood the young man's fears so well it hurt and also scared me a little. My colleague's voice then rang out, soft but firm, clearly laying the foundations of the pact that would bind us to his request once we entered his house.
"We aren't here to hurt him, but we cannot guarantee he will not suffer during the process. It's a necessary ill, but we will do our utmost to avoid that as much as possible."
With a heavy heart, the young man opened the door for us.
Before I set foot in the house, I thought back to the situation description I had read in the file, wondering what we're going to encounter between these walls where, for several months now, everything had been turned upside down.
