[Chapter 15]

Jack lays on the bed on his side, fully dressed but mask off and watching (Y/n) sleep peacefully, his eyes study the bruises on her neck that got darker, the bruises taking the shape of his hands. He grimaces and lightly trailed his fingers over the markings, his head resting on the pillow as he thought everything over and heaving a heavy but quiet sigh, "I'm sorry..." He whispered softly as he brushed her (h/c) locks out of her face to look at her calm and peaceful face one last time. Jack leans in and placed a soft kiss on her forehead before slipping out of the bed quietly so he doesn't wake her. He walks out of her room, closing the door behind him and ran his fingers through his hair that he usually styled up as, his eyes scanned the damage he caused in the living room and sighed with one hand resting on his hip as the other rubbed his forehead in deep thought. The front door opens and closes as Jack looked over and sees Timothy walking up to him.

"I came as fast as I could after your call..." Timothy says in a quiet tone, Jack nods as he walked over to the kitchen. Getting a glass and pouring some whiskey in it with a few ice cubes, Timothy walked over to him.

"Want one?" Jack asks as he offered the look-a-like the glass, ice tinking against the glass. Timothy shakes his head.

"No, I'm alright. You need it more than I do." Jack nods as he brought the rim to his lips to drink. "I'm sorry about what happened to Angel. I wish I could've done more to prevent her death from happening." Jack shakes his head with a slight frown.

"It's fine, don't be sorry. I have that siren Vault Hunter replacing Angel, who has more power to open the gates than she did." Jack says, "Angel's history now so it doesn't matter." Timothy looks at Jack in surprise at how calm he was before seeing the dark circles under his eyes on his scarred face. He's done grieving and Timothy nods with a grimace.

"Alright." They're quiet as Jack sips the whiskey. "So you're going through with this?"

     "Mhm."

"And you're fully aware that there's a high chance you won't make it out this alive, right? While leaving everything behind, including (Y/n)."

"That's why you're here." Jack says as he leans against the counter, swirling the whiskey in his glass, "And there's no way I'm losing this. But if I do, I want you to pretend to be me for her until she finds you out. Which probably won't take her too long. But I want you to take care of her for me." Jack says as he looked at Timothy, "Tell her that I love her more than anything and that I'm sorry for breaking my promise. But I had no other choice."

"Leave it to me." Timothy says with a nod and Jack nods back as he downed the rest of his drink.

"Alright. I better get going." He says as he placed the empty glass on the island, Timothy and Jack clasp their hands together firmly and shake, "Thank you, Timothy. I appreciate everything you've done for me for the past how many years."

"It's been a pleasure, Jack. It was an honor being your body double, and I promise to keep (Y/n) safe." Jack nods as they let each other's hands go. "Good luck."

"Thanks." Jack says as he got his mask from the table and put it on, "See you guys on the flip side." He grabs his gun and leaves the penthouse. He sped walked down the halls to his office and sighed deeply as he went over to his desk and takes the charged Vault Key out. He examines it and slips it into his jacket. He sets an ECHO recording down on his desk and takes one last looks of his office and the view of Elpis from his window. Jack sighed and starts to walk out the office, "I'm the goddamn hero."

A few hours go by as (Y/n) wakes from her slumber. She notices that Jack isn't there and she panicked. Getting out of bed and quickly changing her clothes and a few seconds wash up, swinging her door open and sees him sitting on the couch, drinking a glass of whiskey. He glances over to her and smiles a bit. "Morning, cupcake." He greets. (Y/n) lets out a sigh of relief as she hurried over and hugged him when she sat down on the couch.

"I thought you left..." She murmured as he wrapped his arms around her to hold her close.

"I would never. I love you too much to do that to you." He said softly as he ran his fingers through her hair. He notices her bruises on her neck and lightly brush his fingers over them. (Y/n) smiled softly up at him.

"It's a bit sore but I'm fine." She says as he nodded slowly and drinks his whiskey. (Y/n) nuzzles him and takes a deep breath before pausing. She sits up and looks at him. "You smell different." Jack looks at her with a brow raised and he chuckles.

"Do I? Didn't know that you're always sniffing me." He says with a shake of his head before (Y/n) gets out of his hold in his arms.

"Where's Jack?" He paled just slightly before laughing softly and shaking his head.

"What are you talking about, cupcake? I am Jack." She shakes her head and crosses her arms.

"Where is Jack, Timothy?" She asks again as he stared at her for a moment before sighing deeply, his smile disappearing.

"Didn't think you would find out that fast. Even though I didn't make a mistake besides my scent." Timothy chuckled sadly as he looked at her, "I can't tell you where Jack went."

"Why not?" (Y/n) crosses her arms over her chest as she stared hard at the doppelgänger.

"Because he doesn't want you to freak out or hurt you." He glances at the bruises on her neck and back up at her face, "Emotionally that is."

"Timothy." She says in a soft whisper, "Tell me. Please..." Timothy stares at her and sighs softly.

"He went to the Vault of the Warrior." He says and her eyes widen.

"W-What? He didn't. He promised he wouldn't." Timothy sighed again but deeply, running his fingers through his hair.

"He did, (Y/n). He left awhile ago so he's most likely already there. I'm sorry about this." (Y/n) looks down at her lap, tears brimming her eyes.

     "It's not too late..."

"What?" She stands up from the couch, speed walks to her room and grabs her red pistol.

"It's not too late to stop him and the Vault Hunters." She says as Timothy quickly stands up and takes her arm.

"(Y/n) stop. It is too late." He said with urgently and worry across his face, "He's been gone for 4 hours and 4 hours ago he told me to keep you safe. Push comes to shove, he probably already dead by now."

"You don't know that!" (Y/n) snapped as she tried to pull her arm out of his grip, tears going down her face, "I have to settle their feud and make things right between them! If we go now, we can still make it-!" She cried desperately.

"(Y/n), listen to me!" Timothy shouts as he took her face in his hands so they're making eye contact, "I'm telling you this because I care about you and so does Jack. He doesn't want you to get involved. He knew that this day would come eventually where he'll meet his downfall. He accepted his fate and at the same time tried to change it. This whole thing between him with Hyperion and the Vault Hunters with Pandora, is what will either end a war or start one. I know that you want to make things right but it's way too late for it." He says as he wiped her falling tears away with his thumb, "Jack said that he loved you and he was sorry that he broke his promise. But he had no other choice."

"But he did have a choice..." (Y/n) whimpered shakily as more tears fell.

"No he didn't. He had a choice before pulling Angel into this battle between him and them. But he lost the opportunity to fix everything the right way." Timothy leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, "You have to come to realize that Jack's possibly dead." A soft knock is heard at the door and both their heads snap to the direction of it. (Y/n) feels the last bit of hope as she ran to the door and swung it open, hoping to see Jack standing there alive. But her heart falls when she sees Courtney there, with her head down.

"Courtney...?" (Y/n) murmured, "What's wrong?" Timothy stands in the living room and watches the two as Courtney let out a sniff and wiped her eyes.

"We have just received reports that the Warrior is defeated," She pauses and looks up at (Y/n) through her tears gaze, "And so is Handsome Jack. He's dead and the Vault Hunters are on their way here right now." Time seemed to freeze as (Y/n) let her words sink in, her mind and heart shattering.

"And what about his will?" Timothy asks as he stands next to (Y/n). Courtney lets out a shaky breath.

"And in his will that he added shortly before departing to the Vault of the Warrior, he wanted his name to live in throughout Helios, Pandora and everywhere. He wanted a memorial built in his name and honor. And he added that if he were to die, he wants (Y/n) (L/n) to be the next head of Hyperion." Courtney says as Timothy looks at (Y/n) to see her reaction. Her face is still blank with a look of shock. She swallows thickly and nods.

"I see..." She murmured softly and looking down, tears running down her face while she kept her composure, "Please give me a moment to take all of this in, and in a few moments I'll be up in Jack's- I mean, my office..." She says shakily, Courtney nods with a sad look and a few tears going down her face as she walks off. (Y/n) closes the door and stands there in silence.

"I'm so sorry, (Y/n)..." Timothy says as he hugged her, she clenched her teeth together and let out a choked sob, hugging him back tightly. He sighs softly and watched her with sympathy, rubbing her back soothingly and comfortingly as she wailed into his chest, staining his yellow sweater with tears but he could care less about that as he comforted (Y/n). Her heart ached to the point where it hurt and her sobs get louder by the minute, her body shakes as she tried to keep herself standing without collapsing to the floor in grief and agony. Timothy holds her small form close to himself as he rubbed circles on her back soothingly. 'You still went and got yourself killed, knowing you'll be breaking poor woman's heart... You're still somewhat too prideful and cruel...' Timothy sighed as they stood there for a few more moments, her cries and sobs calming down to whimpers and hiccups. "You're a strong girl, (Y/n). Jack gave the position of Hyperion's CEO to you because he knew you were capable of taking no shit from anyone. He would want you to take that with pride, hold your chin up high, and own it." (Y/n) nods as her face was still buried in his chest.

"Y-You're right..." She says with a sniff and wiping her face off. He gets a wet towel and cleans her face off, putting a tissue to her nose for her to blow. She holds the tissue to her nose and blows. Timothy wipes her face off one more time before tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Feeling better?" She nods and gave one last sniff and taking a deep, shaky breath.

     "Y-Yeah."

"Good. Now look, the Vault Hunters will be here soon to get you back. You can choose to either stay or go back with them. If you go with them, the directors will no choice but to choose someone to be their next CEO. But if you stay, they will most likely not take it too well. Are you ready to handle that?" Timothy asks and (Y/n) gives him a tight and small smile.

"I'm ready." She says and he smiles.

"Great. Do you want me to walk with you to Jack's office?" She shakes her head.

"No, I'll be fine." She says and Timothy nods.

"Alright. If you need me, just give me an ECHO and I'll be right up." (Y/n) nods as she turns to leave, taking deep breaths as she leaves the penthouse and to the office that was now hers. So much was happening at the same time and she tried to grasp the reality of everything. Jack was dead and the Crimson Raiders are most likely going to disown her. Employees watched her walk down the halls and whispering to each other.

"News spreads fast..." She murmured as she walked to the office. (Y/n) finds herself walking down the long corridor, the secretary that sat at the desk outside the office with her head down. "Call me when the. Vault Hunters get here." She sighs deeply as she opened the doors and stepped into the office. She stands in the middle of the large room and stepped lightly up to Jack's desk. An ECHO recording sitting on the desk, she grimaces as she picked it up and placed it in one of the drawers of the desk, "I don't think I can handle anymore tears, Jack... I'll save it for later in the future." She grumbled as she looked at the pictures on the desktop. There's two new frames that sat with the pictures of Angel and of him with Angel. One frame was a picture of (Y/n) smiling brightly and the other was with him and her cuddling in the fields of the simulation they sometimes had their dates at. Her heart flutters and aches at the same time as she smiled sadly at the pictures.

"Ma'am, they're here." The secretary says over the intercom, her voice snapping her out of her trance and gulping softly as she pressed a button.

"Tell them that they can come in." She says.

"Yes, ma'am." (Y/n) stands straight and composed herself, taking deep breaths to calm her nerves as she hears the office doors open behind her and multiple footsteps walk in.

     "I've missed you guys..."
