Chapter Twenty-Three
Greg calmly but purposely walked into his house, not caring if he made noise. He quickly ran upstairs and looked under his bed and saw no sign of the hammer or journal.
"No," he grumbled to himself as he tore apart his closet. "No!"
"Hi, honey! I thought you were going to be gone until Sunday night," Brenda asked, poking her head through the door.
Greg forced himself to remain calm despite his sense of urgency that he felt.
"Yeah... I forgot something. Where's Terra?"
"Oh, she had to go home. Your father got a call about a problem in town square so he dropped her off," she said.
"That's okay," Greg said and ran out the door before his mother could say anything else.
As Greg drove down Terra's street, he thought to himself to try to improvise a plan.
'The back door looks old so we should be able to pry it open.'
"After everything she has been through, I had hoped she could live," Greg's reflection sighed in the rearview mirror.
"She went from an annoyance to a threat. We have no choice," Greg huffed back before hopping out of the jeep.
The back door opened without much effort and Greg found himself inside the Louis' kitchen.
Greg walked over to the empty knife block and sighed before moving to the drawer which he found empty of metal, too. Only a few plastic utensils were scattered inside.
"Cheap bastards don't even have a spoon I can kill them with," Greg mumbled under his breath as he stalked through the dark house. "I would have liked to have killed her quickly, but I guess I have to do it bare handed."

Terra sat on the bed holding Greg's hammer, slowly turning it in her hands.
"What does he need this for?" she wondered aloud, running a finger of the engraved name on the handle. "Who names a hammer? Why Sarah?"
Confused, but beyond interested, she pulled out the black journal from under the pillow.
"Day one. Terra walks down the hall to her first class in that little uniform. What I wouldn't give to peek at what's under there," she read, blushing deeply.
"I didn't know Greg felt that way about me," she smiled to herself, peering over at herself in the mirror. Her reflection showed her in some sweatpants and one of Greg's hoodies.
"Day five. Terra is still wearing that uniform and it just keeps getting tighter and shorter. Soon I bet it's gonna just pop open and leave her tits exposed."
Terra placed a hand over her chest, starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with what she was reading.
"Day seven. No signs of Terra lately. Ugh, I wanna see what would happen if I tore her bra open."
"Jesus!" Terra scowled, her hands shaking as she turned the page.
"Day Fifteen. She wants to deny me?! Fine! The last thing she's gonna feel is my hand breaking her neck while I'm inside her guts!"
Terra let out an audible gasp and threw the book across the room, softly sobbing into her hands.
Brenda poked her head through the door at the sound.
"Is everything okay, dear?"
Terra wiped her eyes and looked at the clock to see how late it was.
"Yes. I just remember that I need to go home," she said.
"It's late, hunny. I'll take you home in the morning."
"No, it's okay. Everyone is awake at my house," Terra continued, subtly sliding the hammer into her bag and scurrying to retrieve the book.
"Well... Okay, then. Jack has to go into work anyway, so he can drop you off," Brenda gave in, but didn't look very happy about it.

The ride to the Louis house was quite awkward.
Terra barely held herself together on the long car ride home, the words of the black book still ringing in her head. Jack sensed her anxiety and didn't press for conversation.
Leaving without a word, Terra walked up to her house and immediately noticed something was wrong. The usually dark house was completely bright and loud country music could be heard.
When she walked in she saw her father dancing with her mother in the living room, which was pretty weird.
"What's going on?" Terra called above the music, her voice barely audible.
"Hey, baby girl! Pull up a seat and have a drink!" Cletus laughed, letting go of Martha who wobbled over to the couch.
"I don't want to dance, Cletus!" Terra called out annoyed as the man grabbed her and spun her around.
"Aw, c'mon Terra! We dun hit tha jackpot!" Cletus yelled, turning up the music even more.
"What do you mean? Where's Hunter?" Terra asked, a bad feeling rising in her stomach.
"We put him in Rainbow Oaks!" Cletus laughed in his booming voice.
"You what?!" Terra exclaimed. "That place treats people like lab rats!"
"Now, hunny bun, those nice people said they'd take good care of Hunter! The best part is they gunna pay us $300 a week just to keep him!" Cletus said with a huge smile.
"What about the money from my settlement?" Terra asked, ashamed to bring it up.
"Baby girl, that money's already spent!" Cletus grinned proudly.
"Spent on what?!"
"These new speakers, mah new game system, and the ATV I just bought!" he said, turning the music all the way up now.
Distraught, Terra walked downstairs to her room in the basement, plopping down on her bed.
"I was so stupid to think I could ever have something of my own," she sniffled, unaware that her closet door was slowly opening.
"You didn't come home to me for a while," a voice said, the sound making Terra shudder.
"I'm sorry, Walter. I won't leave again," Terra said dully before she was flipped onto her back to stare up at her uncle's disfigured face.
"I need you to stay with me from n-n-now on, okay?" he pleaded, moving his hand slowly up Terra's leg to the waistband of her sweatpants. Suddenly, Walter yanked her pants down and shamelessly caressed her bare thigh.
Terra stared up at the ceiling, the mental pain she was experiencing numbing the physical suffering. She decided to accept her fate and went limp, her hand falling from the bed and brushing something on the floor.

Greg stood outside the basement door and listened for a moment. After hearing no sound, he made his plan.
"She should be asleep," Greg whispered, looking at his watch that read 1am. "We will smother her with a pillow and leave before anybody sees us."
Opening the door, he was hit with the metallic smell of blood that was so strong he could taste it. He walked into the room, not knowing what to expect.
"What the hell?" Greg said, seeing the body on the floor. As he looked closer, he discovered that it was a body that was almost completely missing its head. The only remains of it was a puddle of red liquid and skull fragments.
"We've hit our fair share of heads, but this..." Greg muttered, being sure to walk quietly through the house. That's when he tripped on something in the dark and when he looked down to see what it was, another headless body greeted him. It's torso was cut open and its limbs were stuffed inside.
"Was this done before or after they died?" Greg wondered, still processing the scene.
When peering over at the couch, he saw the third body that was completely turned inside out.
Greg wasn't necessarily in tune with his emotions, but the state of the body was offputting, even for him.
"Do you like?" a voice said behind him. Startled, Greg tried to turn around, but felt a heavy object make contact with his head.
As he fell to the floor, seeing spots, the first thing he saw was the glimmer of the hammer before Terra came into view. She had a large smile on her face as she walked over in the tattered remains of her school girl uniform. Her hair was messy and knotted, and her once green eyes were now red and bloodshot.
"T-Terra..."
"Shhhh, it's okay," she whispered back, her voice somehow soothing.
"What...is...this?" Greg forced the words out, feeling woozy.
"This is me taking all the suffering I've kept inside and dishing it out to people who don't deserve to live!" Terra yelled.
"Ironic, isn't it?" she continued softer, pulling out the black book and throwing it at Greg.
"Terra, that isn't mine..." Greg attempted to explain, but was struck in the ribs with the hammer.
"No more lies! Not from you! Not from them!" she screamed. "You wanna see what's inside me so damn bad?! Here it is!"
"Terra, I--" Greg tried to call out as the hammer was brought down again...and again...and again.
