Fire Ruby

Andrew climbs into the window seat, leaning over it to peer outside. I can't help but smile to myself, sitting down and pulling my backpack into my lap.

"Have you flown before?" I ask, digging through my bag.

"Of course. I had to go to college in the US," he responded, turning to look at me.

"So... You're an expert of sorts," I teased, sticking a piece of gum in my mouth.

Andrew giggled. "Not even close. I could name all the parts of a plane, though."

"Big brain," I smirk. I pull out another stick of gum and offer it to him as the plane starts moving under us, a lady in the front talking about safety measures that I don't care about.

He gladly takes the gum, popping it in his mouth. "Nah, just get bored and study random things."

"So, wait... Does that mean you study the manual before you play a video game?" I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Fuck no," he seems displeased. "I study games afterward to find story things and lore."

I push up the armrest that lies between us as the plane takes off. "Don't you learn the lore during the gameplay?" I question.

"I do, but sometimes it's hard to find certain things. I like collectibles and one hundred percent finished games."

"You sound like Tommy," I jab my finger across the ally of the plane at Tommy, who is stuck sitting with a sleeping old lady. "If not worse than him."

He giggled, "You're dating a book worm~"

"No, I'm n-" I stop short. "You have to be kidddinggg meee," I whine.

Andrew can't stop giggling, leaning in towards me. "I'm noooot~"

I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest in complaint. I pass Andrew a sideways glance and then lean over to snake an arm behind his back.

"Not sorry~" his body comes towards me, and I take his hand in mind.

"Don't get any ideas. I nearly flunked high school," I warned, drawing close. He relaxes into my grasp, and I lean up to kiss his temple. "Hey there~"

He jumps, eyes snapping up to meet mine. "Ah, yea?"

I pull him down so I can nuzzle the top of his forehead, getting a scent of his hair. "You're kinda cute yourself~"

Andrew chuckles, pulling himself close to me. "You're adorable~" he flirts, acting as if his mental stumble was nothing.

"Yeah, yeah," I move to meet his eyes. "Whatever you say, firey boi~" I tell him quietly.

"I will~" he agrees, planting a kiss on my cheek.

"I can't believe you're not tired," I admit, letting go of his hand so I can wrap my arms around him.

"Once I'm up, I'm up," he shrugs. "Plus, I had some coffee before we boarded."

I giggle, not believing him. "Oh? And when was this?~"

"While we were waiting for the plane? You were kinda in your own little world~"

"I was not," I complain, but I know he's right.

"I don't know. I just did. Not like it was that far..." Andrew says.

I shrug. "Alright, fine. But now I want some coffee."

He laughs, "No. You should not have coffee."

My hand draws up his back, cupping the back of his neck and rubbing the skin with my thumb. "And why noot?" I whine.

His body shivers at my touch, and he smiles. "I don't need you addicted to it."

I can't help but chuckle. "I've had it before, and I'm not addicted there handsome~"

Andrew's hand comes under my chin. "You know what I mean," he assumes and then comes forward to steal a kiss from me. My other hand comes up and I keep him there, gently kissing him back. He didn't seem to expect this but keeps at it anyway.

Not wanting to force us into anything, I let my hands fall away and allow him to pull away if he wanted to. Even with this, his lips stay pressed to mine a little longer before we part, but when Andrew pulls back I let my head follow him and go to nuzzle the side of his neck.

His body shivers again, and I can't help but smile as knowing that was my own doing. A hand, his hand, warm and soft come up my back and rests at the top of it.

"Hey, lover boy~" he whispered, just teasing me.

I give a little hum and nuzzle him again, feeling his body shiver again. Content, I send my hand to find his free one and he interlaces our fingers effortlessly.

"Are you that sensitive?" I say into his neck.

"Nooo..." he denies playfully.

Again, I nuzzle him but this time leave a soft kiss on his skin. His muscles tense, his head turning away. My stomach twists, and I back off.

His worried eyes meet mine and I admit. "I don't want to hurt you."

"You won't," he promised.

I pull his hand to my chest, "Promise?"

"I Promise, lover boi." Andrew gently squeezes my hand.

"What's with that nickname?" I question.

"I like it~" he flirts. "It suits you."

I whine. "Whyy does it suit meee?"

"You're my lover boi~" he insists.

I stop short, feeling my face heat up. "Well, I suppose I can live with that~"

Andrew giggled, coming and kissing my nose. I shake my head, still not used to that. When I look back at him, his smile is wide, warm, and happy. I hope that I'm reflecting the expression. I love that look on him.

His hand comes and pushes my hair out of my face, and I flinch to not let myself pull away.

"Cute~"

I tilt my head. "My eyes are not cute."

"Yes they are~" he flirts.

"Nooo..." I argue, a playful smirk coming to my lips.

"Then they are absolutely beautiful~ One like a fiery ruby, the other a sparkling quartz~" he flirts, getting lost in my eyes.

I bite my lip, trying not to smile like a crazy idiot but it doesn't work.

"And your smile is even better~" he adds.

"You're making me want to kiss you," I mumble, the words coming before I even had the chance to think about it.

"Already done~" and his warm lips wrap around mine. I squeeze his hand in thanks, tilting my head and getting lost in the kiss. Andrew doesn't pull away, but I soon have to so that I can breathe.

"Hey there hot stuff~" I flirt.

"Handsome boi~" he plays back.

"You're kinda cute, all wrapped up in my arms~" I tell him.

"And you're kinda handsome doing so~" he tells me.

"Well then, stay a while~" I smile.

"I will~" he agrees.

I let myself just sit and gaze at him, the light coming through the small plane window hitting him just right so that his eyes glisten.

I bring a hand to cup around the side of Andrew's face. "So, who'd you get your gems from?"

His smile widens, "Wouldn't you like to know~"

"Awww," I tilt my head, leaning closer to him. "Come ooon..."

"My father~" he replies at last. "I have my dad's eyes, that's what he would say."

"Good to know~" I go and kiss his cheek. Andrew's smile falters, and I worry I've messed up. Worried, I ask. "Need to talk about it?"

"It's nothing," he responds. "My dad has just been very ill and I can't really see him."

"He sounds like a good man," I offer.

"He is... He fought in a bloody war and came back like it was bloody nothing." Andrew shakes his head.

"Heroic," I give a caring smile.

"Yeah..." he agrees. "I've always wished I could be him."

"Don't you dare go and die on me," I warn.

Andrew's smile flickers back, "I won't darling~ I can barely use a gun for shit."

I giggle. "No shooting games for you, then?"

"I can do those~"

"Good," I'm relieved, going to give his cheek another kiss.

"Is that your favorite game or something?" he asks when I'm done.

I roll my eyes. "According to my brother, I have a different favorite video game every few days."

He smiles. "Makes sense."

"And you?~" I ask.

"Horror games and indie games," he replied easily.

"We'll get along perfectly," I smirk, glad that we agree about something so important to me. "What else do you like to do, ya know, besides being weird with books?"

"Good... Well," he rolls his eyes. "I work at a book cafe."

"How does one order a drink of books?~" I tease.

This gets him to giggle, and I'm glad he's feeling better. "I work at a cafe that is in a bookstore. I work selling drinks, or organizing books."

"Nothing like a low-key job," I observe.

"I get paid decently. You saw my house," he insists.

I tilt my head. "I wasn't saying you weren't well-off..."

"I know~"

"Sounds like it suits you~ Books, coffee, all in one place? Must be nice," I comment.

Andrew agrees. "I love it."

"I love you~" I flirt.

"I love you too~" he agrees.

We meet for a kiss, each silently telling the other not to back away, daring him to stay. I relax, and our arms go around the other to keep close in the plane seats.

Even when I do part the kiss, keeping our foreheads together, Andrew nuzzles me softly. His hand finds mine, squeezing it to subside my nerves.

My breath comes in unsteady, and Andrew's voice is caring. "Love you, darling~"

"So..." I pull in another breath. "You want to stay with me?"

"Of course~" he agrees.

"Thank you~" I feel my lips smile.

He nuzzles me again, my hand holding tightly to his, and he does the same to me. Andrew's lips press a kiss to my cheek and we fall quiet, holding onto each other.
