CHAPTER 4

"It should barely matter!" Tessa exclaims while pacing around in her room as Ronnie watches her carefully.

"Hey stop, CALM DOWN!" he tells her as he watches her with complete pity.

"Ron." she sighs as she looks at him, he motions her to come sit on his lap.

She slowly walks forth and sits on his lap with her legs surrounding his torso, their eyes meet and slowly they pull in. Ronnie and Tessa had been together for three years straight now, both their fathers went hand to hand in their maple syrup business and were one of the most richest people in town.

Wealth doesn't always make one unethical, Tessa's dad chose to stay in a small yet comforting town house and save up money for the future. Ronnie and his parents stayed in the outskirts of the town in a big mansion.

He places his lips on hers and they move in perfect sync, going for about twenty seconds when their moment gets disturbed by loud banging music from the house next door.

"Right!" Tessa exclaims as she raises her eyebrows in pure annoyance.

"I'm going to check whether dad can speak to Neil." she says getting up and walking towards the door when she is met by her father.

"I was wondering if you could ask Neil to turn down the music." her dad asks and she shuts her eyes in annoyance.

"Okay." She says not wanting to argue with him or let him know of the havoc that happened earlier in school.

"Ronnie dear could you go along with Tessa?" Tessa's mom inquiries and Ronnie nods. Both of them go down the flight of stairs, out of the door and take a left to meet a huge house, always full off people, people you usually wouldn't want to meet.

"Tessa!" Neil calls out as he asks her to come into the front yard.

Both teens stride past the smoking people, then are next met by a bunch of drunk goons and finally they meet Neil.

"What brings you here?" Neil says as he sips from his red cup.

"We need you to turn down the music." Tessa strictly warns.

"The party was not my idea it was Shawn's" Neil informs.

"Then I'll tell him." Tessa casually remarks.

"He threw the party to forget how you humiliated him in school, I doubt he wouldn't try killed you." Neil giggles.

"Ron, can you please go up and ask Mendes to turn it down?" She asks hoping he'd say yes, and much to her relief he did.

"Sure babe, be right back." he says as he notices Neil place his palm on Tessa's shoulder.

"And hands off my girl." he warns and Neil fling his arms in the air, suggesting he was surrendering.

"You shouldn't have done all that in school today." Neil starts up a conversation as Tessa impatiently waits for Ronnie to return.

No answer.

"I'm talking to you Tessa." Neil sighs tired.

"He ignited the fire." Tessa looks at him as she bites her lip, it was getting cold.

"He's a match but you were a stone, you helped him." Neil makes his stand.

"Just like that dialogue of yours made no sense, he doesn't too." Tessa shrugs giving Neil a wicked smile.

Seconds passing felt like ages in a lonely room filled with people. Irony much?
First she stares at the bare grass, next at her window sill which was evident from the porch, then at someone sucking another person's face off next to her, she rolls her eyes in disgust as she strides forward while looking for Neil.

"Neil!" She yells a call of relief when she spots him in the kitchen clearing the glasses, she picks one of them off the floor and drops it in the bin in Neil's hand.

"Did Ronnie come down?" She interrogates.

"Nope not yet." Neil shrugs and mouths a 'thank you' for picking up the cup, she nods and looks for stairs, she was going up.

"Watch it!" She yells at one of the girls who widens her eyes asking her to beware, her parallel lines tattoo was clearly visible.

"Why do y'all have parallel lines for a tattoo." she chuckles as Neil helps her find her way to Shawn's room.

"That's not parallel line, it's an equal to symbol." he nods offended.

"My bad." she smacks the front of her head. She soon recognises Shawn's room and walks forward to stop dead in her tracks when she hears voices on the other side of the door. She puts her ear up to his door and tries to listen to the conversation.

"So what?" Ronnie yells and Shawn calmly stares at him.

"What if I tell her?" Shawn smirks.

"You're going to tell her what Shawn?" Ronnie states out of clear annoyance. That the only reason I'm dating her is for a share in her dad's company? Like she's gonna believe you." Ronnie chuckles out of disbelief.

"Well I am, when I here it with my own ears." Tessa says as she enters into the room hurt.

"Mendes turn down the music." she says stressing on every word. Shawn took the opportunity to smirk at her, as he went down the flight of stairs to tell everyone the party was over.

"Babe I can explain." Ronnie says, he had messed up, and his dad was going to be pissed.

"Sure, I'll meet you in hell maybe then I'll have the time but until then, toodles." she waves him off as she walks out of the house.

She narrated the whole episode to her dad, who was definitely fumed. He had a big share with the Cooper's, but doubted if he could still withdraw from it now, it would be a great loss.

"I understand daddy." Tessa smiles, understanding the situation her dad was in.

She walks up to her room and gently shuts the door, locking it. She pulls her hair up into a messy bun and plops down on the bed, staring at the gray wall in front of her blankly.

In the house next door, there was a stringent cleaning session in process. Neil asks Shawn to take a rest and told him that he'd handle all of it.

Shawn hops up the flight of stairs into his room, when he spots a motionless Tessa staring blankly at the wall like she'd do sometimes. He shakes his head and turns of the light.

As the lights go off, Tessa slowly turns her head towards the neighbouring window as tear drops from her eyes.
