{Chapter 2} First impressions

If you're a true Danny Phantom fan, you'll see the reference in this chapter.
Also I kinda thought they looked like siblings so I figured I might as well work that into the story.

Jazz's POV
For most of the trip, me, Danny and Sam were chatting about things that had happened with ghosts and our lives in general. They seemed to be a bit stressed about something, though.
"Are you guys okay? You, uh... You look stressed. Did... Did something weird happen?" I raised an eyebrow.
The two glanced at each other and quickly looked away, blushing.
"N-no!"
"We're fine!"
"Don't worry about it!"
Followed by numerous attempts at reassuring me that nothing was wrong.
I didn't fall for it.
A while before we arrived, Danny and Sam were leaning on each other, asleep. Holding hands.
You have no idea how hard it was to not just demand he take her out on a date, it gets really annoying waiting after a while.
Sam woke up, but didn't move away. In fact, she wrapped her free arm around his.
Then realized I was watching. I pretended to zip my lips closed and she relaxed.
When we got to the town, I woke up Sam in case she wanted to move. She quickly pulled her arm back and tried to move away, but Danny kept a strong grip on her hand.
I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from laughing. It didn't work too well.
Sam glared at me and then glanced at Danny. Then moved back next to him so he wouldn't dislocate her shoulder in his sleep. Dad stopped the RV abruptly and Danny yelped, almost falling out of his seat, but Sam grabbed him.
"I, er- ... Thanks." He smiled sheepishly, which his girlfriend - sorry, best friend - returned.
We got out of the RV and saw a beat-up old shack, which had the words 'MYSTERY HACK' on it. I really hope the second word is meant to be Shack, not Hack.
"This place looks terrible." Danny and I muttered.
"Jinx! Owe me a soda!"
"Double jinx!"
"Triple jinx!
"Quadruple jinx!"
"Quintuple jinx! I win, you lose!"I shouted triumphantly.
"Yeah, yeah, you're smarter than me." Danny grumbled.
I patted him on the back. "Lighten up, little brother."
"Yeah. At least you're not nearly as dumb as Dash." Sam chuckled. "I mean, you're not dumb at all, I just- you know what I mean, don't you?"
Danny nodded and smiled.

Sam's POV
We walked into the building a minute after Danny's parents ran in. As we walked through the door, an animal ran into my leg and I would've fallen over, had Danny not caught me.
"I guess I repaid the favour, huh?" He smirked.
"What was that? A dog? Oh." I turned around to see a pig waddling around the building. "This place is really weird." I muttered.
"Tell me about it." A voice sighed. We turned to see a redhead with a green flannel shirt sitting behind the register. "I'm Wendy, by the way. Wendy Corduroy." She grinned. "So are you guys tourists? Siblings? Best friends?"
I almost choked.
"Wait, say that again?"
"Tourists?"
"No, after that."
"Best friends?"
"No, in the middle!"
"Oh. Uh, siblings?"
I tried not to gag. "Nooo way, Jose."
"Oh, sorry. It's just that you both have black hair and a similar skin tone and a vaguely similar eye colour. So, dating?"
I looked at the ground and felt my cheeks go warm. "N-no." I mumbled.
"W-we're just really good f-friends, that's all! Best friends, actually." Danny laughed nervously.
"So if you're not dating why are you holding hands?"
I let my hand go limp as I looked away.
Danny let go, but... He seemed to hesitate.
"Uh, m-my hands get c-cold easily..." Danny lied.
"Dude, don't you have pockets?"
He pointed to a pocket on the left side of his pants, and where a pocket should've been on the right side, but was missing. He put his left hand back in the only pocket.
"Stupid design choice, I know. Don't blame me."
He grabbed my hand again and I didn't complain.
"Well, feel free to look around." Wendy put up her feet and went back to reading.
"Kids! The manager of this fine establishment said you two - and Jazz - could stay here while we track down the ghost!" Danny's mom yelled.
We walked towards her voice and I waved to Wendy. She seemed pretty cool.
"You know, Danny, having the powers for so long made you a really good liar." I whispered.
"Well, actually, it was only a half truth. My hands don't get cold easily, but they are cold right now..." Danny chuckled.
We walked into the room we heard Danny's mom shout from and saw two kids. They looked about eleven or twelve, maybe thirteen. They saw us and smiled.
One was a girl with long brown hair, brown eyes, braces, rosy cheeks, a headband and a bright pink sweater. In summer. And her hair wasn't up. This kid was definitely not normal.
The other was a boy with shaggy brown hair, brown eyes, eye bags (either the girl never let him sleep, or he was stuck with them), a red-orange t-shirt, a navy blue vest, grey shorts and a blue and white cap, which I'm pretty sure I saw in the gift shop.
The girl was gluing photos in a scrapbook and the boy was reading a book - or was he writing in it?
The girl got up and ran over to us. "Hi! I'm Mabel! Mabel Pines! Nice to meet you! That over there is Nerdy McGrouchypants." Mabel pointed at the boy.
They were definitely siblings. Any two kids could look similar, but looking similar AND 'Nerdy McGrouchypants'?
The boy growled and got up. "Mabel! Seriously?" He walked over to us. "I'm Dipper, Mabel's perfectly normal brother. And I'm not a grouch." He held out his hand. I shook it.
"Sam. Nobody is allowed to call me Samantha, by the way."
Danny let go of my hand and shook Dipper's as well.
"Daniel Fenton. But everybody calls me Danny."
"Yeesh, man. Your hand is freezing. Did you stick it in a bucket of ice or something? No, your hand would be wet..." Dipper muttered.
"You know... You two look alike. Are you twins?" I asked.
"Yup! Factual twins!"
"It's fraternal, Mabel. Not factual."
"Whatever, nerd."
"What's wrong with being a nerd?!"
"Nothing. Except you're the kind of nerd that never puts down that stupid book."
"Have you forgotten how many times it saved us?!"
Danny and I were trying not to laugh, but it was quite hard.
"Uh, guys? We're still here." Danny managed to say.
"WADDLES! After him!" Mabel pointed at Dipper and the pig from earlier came in.
"Ahh! Why would you send your stupid pig after me?! I didn't do anything!"
"You're making our guests uncomfortable with all of your nerd talk!"
Mabel turned back to us and smiled. "So, what's your deal? Are you guys siblings too?"

Danny's POV
I had to try not to demand why people thought we were related.
"Uh, no. We're not siblings. We're not even related." I explained.
"Oh. Okay. It's just that you both have black hair and similar skin colour and similar eye colour, so- wait..."
Mabel looked closely at Sam's face.
"OH MY GOSH! You have purple eyes! That's so cool! They look so prettyyy! I wish I had purple eyes! Or even better, pink eyes!" She squealed. You could almost see her eyes turning into stars.
Sam chuckled. "Yeah, don't ask how I got purple irises. I honestly have no idea."
Mabel kept going on about eye colours she wished she had.
"Do you think she knows she can get contacts?" Sam whispered.
"Maybe tell her when she calms down..." I smiled.
My parents ran past us, ghost weapons in hand. Jazz walked in with a dull look on her face, but when she saw Mabel, she grinned.
"Aww! Oh my gosh, you're adorable! I love your hair!"
"Thanks! You're pretty! And I love your hair!"
I groaned. This was going to be a long summer.
"Could they get any more stereotypically girly?" Sam muttered.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it!" Dipper shouted, running back into the room, passing us.
And a goat came after him.
I really hope we're not staying here.
The twins seem nice, but... I'm not sure I want to meet their parents.
I heard a gruff voice.
"You two must be Daniel and Samantha. I'm Stan. Stan Pines. I'm the great uncle of those twins, and I've been taking care of them this summer."
Okay, no parents.
This summer will be fun.
