games we play

Travis Scott's Astroworld played in the background as Josiah watched Grace look for a change of clothes.

What started as breakfast had turned into him spending the entirety of his day there, mainly talking to Grace, Samantha, and Celina.

He liked Samantha, though he could tell there was a strain in she and Grace's relationship.

Wasn't his business.

"You really listen to this bullshit?" He asked with a frown on his face.

She glared at him, "Watch your mouth. We stan a legend."

"Who the legend is? Not this autotune ass nigga."

"You pick the music then. I don't have to deal with this blasphemy."

Josiah was all to happy to scroll through her music, changing the song to Zero by Chris Brown.

"I don't have anything to say because I actually love this song." Grace laughed.

Before he could put her phone back down, it vibrated in his hand with a message.

He knew her brother's name was Mason, so it couldn't be him.

The urge to ask who it was rose within him, but he pushed it down. Again, it wasn't his business.

When he saw her pull out clothes that didn't look casual, he shook his head, "Bro if you don't put on some damn tennis shoes."

They were going to Hassan's game, Grace inviting herself and Josiah agreeing since he didn't mind her company.

"I don't have any."

Josiah stared at her in disbelief, "You don't have any tennis shoes?"

"I have flats, but not tennis shoes."

"I have flatssss." He mimicked in a high pitched tone while going to her closet, "I don't even know what that mean."

Grace stepped aside as he rummaged through the clothes and shoes, eventually finding a pair of Balenciaga runners in the back.

"Here."

"Oh." She stated in surprise, "I didn't know I had those."

Josiah knew every single pair of shoes he owned.

He shook his head, "You wild."

"Since you're dressing me," Grace started, instead of responding to what he said, "What am I wearing with this?"

"I saw this girl on Instagram wearing them, and she had a lil all over thing on. It's like some Catwoman type shit. You got one?"

Grace knew he meant what he was talking about, but decided to mess with him, "Like it covered her face?"

"Nah, it was just the body."

She pretended to be deep in thought, "So everything except her face was covered?"

Noticing the slight smile on her face, Josiah realized she was tryna be funny, "Grace keep on and I'ma leave you right here in this house."

"I actually do have a body suit." She laughed, "It makes my butt look nice so I don't mind wearing it."

He took the time to look at her since she was only in undergarments, "It always look nice if we being real."

"An appreciative king. Love that."

"Man just hurry up."

Grace wouldn't say she was bored, just not having fun.

Josiah was ignoring her, actually paying attention to the game, Neriah, his sister was giving her weird glances every now and then, and Malik was just.... there.

Faelyn was also there, and she kept trying to talk to Grace for some reason.

"You gotta Instagram?" She asked, making a 'popping' noise with her gum.

"I don't." Grace lied.

"I'll make you one. What's your email?"

Seeing that she was hell bent on following her, Grace accepted, "Oh you said Instagram. Yeah I have one."

They exchanged socials as Neriah snickered beside them.

As Faelyn continued to blab in her ear, Grace tried to understand what was going on in the game. For some reason, Hassan kept going to a line to shoot while the other team just stood there.

She leaned over tapping Josiah on the shoulder, "Why are they just standing there?"

A laugh came out at first until he realized she wasn't joking, "You can't be deadass right now."

The blank look on her face showed that she was.

"You really don't know basketball? This the easiest sport to learn."

"I watched football with my dad when I was younger."

Malik was listening to their conversation, laughing, "Jo you gotta get her out more. Take her to the rec or some."

"I'll tell you how it works if you want." Faelyn offered eagerly, "We can go to games together."

Grace was about to decline, until she saw the hopeful gleam in her eye, "Sure. I'll give you my number."

The rest of the game went by quickly, Hassan's team winning by upwards of 14 points.

As they were exiting the gym, a squeaky voice yelled, "Josiah!"

Though the girl called his name, Grace also turned to see who she was, seeing her approach him with familiarity.

"Wassup Bria?"

The longer they talked, the more annoyed Grace grew, sighing loudly and making a show of checking the time on her phone.

Bria glanced at her briefly, "You rude for not introducing me Jo."

"My bad." He laughed, "This Grace."

He didn't think it was a point in telling her who Bria was since she heard him say her name already.

"I can't believe you got a girlfriend and never said anything."

Grace knew that was her way of asking were they together, but Josiah didn't, quickly correcting Bria, "Nah, it ain't like that."

"Oh yikes. Now I'm embarrassed I said that." Bria claimed while eyeing Grace with what she tried to pass off as an apologetic gaze.

"I'm sure you are." Grace said sarcastically, "Josiah, the keys?"

Neriah who was still close enough to hear the conversation, snorted and tried to cover her laugh with a cough.

"I'll walk with you. I'ma talk to you later Bria."

After saying bye to his sister, they walked to the car in silence, Grace trying to figure out how to ask a question without sounding like she cared more than what she did.

"Do you have sex with other people?" She asked in what she hoped was a nonchalant tone.

Josiah's response was quick, "Do you?"

Neither of them said another word on the way home.
