chapter 42 | Protective

30 minutes later...

The bottle now empty, Dongsik doesn't take the teat out of his mouth yet. He pays attention to the food as well, this one smelling terribly good and filling the whole house with delicious flavors. He speaks to the baby in a cute manner while kindly moving the bottle to take it away, but this adorable boy raises his hand up to the man's face and touches his chin while smiling, getting Dongsik to giggle but act even more childish for him. He turns his head to press a kiss on my baby's hand, and he gives a few pecks, some butterfly kisses, making him smile broadly.

"Kook," Jaehyun asks for me while playing, so I turn around. "What?"

"Explain to Minjun what you said you did to your dad on your little brother's birthday," he brings this forth when I almost forgot about it. "When we both pranked him?"

"Yeah," he smiles, probably remembering the events I described by texts. Minjun keeps his eyes on me to listen, resting his arm on the back of the sofa. "Did he kick you?" he giggles, but I shake my head, relieved to answer with a 'no'. "He was ready to throw his slipper at my face though because let me explain, my brother wanted to prank him because he got him to be scolded by my mom, and we both know our dad likes to play with our nerves when we act childish. So here, he asked me by text to prank him with y/n, so I explained to her what he wanted to do. She was a bit nervous because she's close to my dad, he really likes to pamper her and make sure she's fine and treated well—"

"Wait," he interrupts me. "How close?"

"Close like...I don't know, very close because my parents know her for a while already," I shrug without giving a clear answer, and I go on. "But anyway, she accepted when I told her he would not be mad since he's used to us doing that type of stuff. So we went to my house, and we waited for the right moment, I was pretending to be in a bad mood because I was tired and all, y/n was still pregnant so our nights were tough when she was sick, and that was the best timing. A little before eating the cake, we started the prank, y/n asked me to help her to serve the dishes while I was on my phone and that my dad was busy trying to turn a drone on that he bought for my little bro. If she didn't do it at that moment, my dad would have helped her, but she managed to get him to stay with my brother which I thought would be impossible. So she asked me for some help out loud, but I said I was playing a bit rudely, I didn't look at her, I was just focused on my phone, so she asked once more but always in a sweet manner like she does all the time, you know, it's even softer than when she asks to do something at school, it's like impossible to tell her no, and I was hurt to do that, but she was like 'It's just to put the dishes on the table, Jungkook,' in a little voice, so I pretended to be mad because of that, and I let out an 'I can't!' and I mumbled 'goddamned' right after—"

"Holy shit," he gapes, knowing my dad well and expecting something bad to be said. "What did your dad do?"

"He got fucking mad at me," I laugh but remember all of the things that happened afterward. "I wasn't looking at him, but I heard his scary voice asking me to repeat what I said, and I swear, when I looked at him, I felt my spine shake because of how serious he was. It's like the worst I could do in front of him because he does not accept that type of thing, and y/n was pregnant back then, which was worse because to him, a man has to be there for his woman all the time, he has to make sure she's not too exhausted, that she has what she needs and not have to deal with more pain than the pregnancy gives her. So there, I risked my life because I dared to answer, and my heart was fucking beating hard as ever, but I told him that she can do it because I have to finish my game."

"He believed you?" he raises his eyebrows, wondering how this was not obvious that we were pranking him. "Honestly, I thought he would see that I'm just acting because I love her more than anything and wouldn't do that, but the fact that I was playing, that I was supposedly tired, got it to work. So after I answered, he stood up, and that's when I regretted everything," I tell him everything as he's enjoying it. "He came up to me and snatched my phone out of my hands, but he came closer to talk in a low voice so that y/n wouldn't hear him, and he said 'You get up right now and help her before I make you regret what you're doing', but," I bite my lips. "My brother added something that was not planned, and he told him that he saw me ignore her earlier when she asked me to carry something. When my dad heard that and turned back at me, I swear I could see all the wrath in his eyes. He told me to go into my bedroom right away, but I huffed and said 'Fine! I'm gonna help her', and I went towards her, but he stopped me. He ordered me to go into my bedroom because that was too late, and I know that when he says that, either he's gonna have a talk or leave me there without anything to do. Since it was a prank, I went further and said in an angry way that it was fine now because I'm gonna put those stupid dishes on the table, but when I got next to her, he went towards us and literally got in-between us, I think he said something like 'What didn't you understand in what I told you?' but I felt like I should stop or else I would die, so I immediately laughed and told him it was a joke."

"How did he react? Dude, if I was you and that I did that to my dad, I wouldn't be here to talk about it," he cannot believe that all of this happened, expressing some shock. "He stared at me and then looked at my little brother but saw him wheeze, then he looked back at me, but he was like 'You—' and he looked at y/n to ask her if it's true. So she said yes but apologized, she was feeling bad, but he grinned and punched me in the arm before saying that he would make me regret this because it really passed him off to see me act like that with her, and it kinda hurt him because y/n really looked hurt by my reaction, and he was so relieved that he hugged her and told her she didn't have to apologize because he knows we're the ones who wanted to do this."

"Jeez," he giggles. "I wish I was there, you must have looked so scared."

"I was, dude. Even y/n told me she was because she said like 'I saw his veins pop out of his hand when he was between us I got scared', but she was relieved to see he was so protective and caring with her," I bite my lips but comb my hair back. "Has he got revenge yet?" he mentions what is still waiting for me, but I shake my head and chuckle. "Nope. I'm not ready for it."

"What if he uses y/n too?" he says, making my heart bleed with fear. "And what if he says," Jaehyun includes himself in this conversation when he remained quiet the whole time. "Y/n came up to me and told me she fell in love with one of your best friends, the tall and muscular one."

"Shut up, that's not funny. He would never do that," I don't joke with this since it's a sensitive topic. "I'm pretty sure you know I was right about what I said last Friday."

"Stop talking about that," I hate him for mentioning this since it hurts me. I wish he never did because this seems to be the truth, and I don't feel worried since then. "What did you tell him?" Minjun gets curious about it. "I read that men often feel lonely and not loved anymore when the baby is born, like, they're put aside because the woman focuses a lot on the baby and not the man anymore. I was right."

After those words I loath to hear, my attention gets taken away once I hear the front door open, my heart bumping in my chest with happiness and joy. I step back and look at my woman since the door of the entry room is opened, but she takes her shoes off, standing there in her summer dress. She leaves her keys on the console table next to her and raises her head up to walk up towards us.

I smile as soon as we make eye contact.

"Hey," she returns the love and reaches me out, so I press a kiss on her lips without caring about the others, but those guys greet her. "Hello, Miss Han," they bow to her, and she does it back, but once she turns towards Dongsik, who hasn't been able to put his t-shirt back on, and who's holding our baby, she shows some astonishment but bows to him too.

"What is happening?" she puts her bag down, looking exhausted. "I...Dongsik fed him because he choked when I did it, and I got scared..." I explain, and she looks back at Dongsik, this man who's displaying his well-defined abs and v-line to her. "I'm...I'm sorry about that," he points his finger at himself. "Mingi threw up on me, and I washed my top. I'm sorry if it makes you feel uncomfortable."

"No, it's ok. I hope you didn't feel sick," she laughs in a soft manner but walks up to the fridge. "Who's cooking?" she grabs a bottle of coke, and I direct my finger towards the man next to me, wishing I could tell her I'm the one taking care of this. "Oh, are you hungry?"

"Yes, but I just wanted to cook for everyone since I knew you would come home, and Jungkook hasn't eaten anything either," his sentence gets her to look at me with worry. "Jungkook...I told you to—"

"I know, I'm sorry," I cut her off to apologize. "I was just focused on Mingi, and I played...I forgot."

She stays annoyed by it but puts the bottle on the kitchen island, and she gets closer to Dongsik to take the baby. "We can leave if you want. The food is soon ready."

"No, it's fine," she shakes her head and kisses Mingi's cheek who instantly closed his eyes once his head rested on her chest. That's almost instinctive. "You can play, I'll take care of this."

Dongsik gives me a hit in the waist to make me react as she turned around to walk away, and I remember what he said.

"Take a break," I tell her, stepping forth to be near her. "You just came home a minute ago. Get on the sofa and chill a little, please. We'll take care of this."

"Jungkook, I'm fine. You took care of him all day long, I know you—"

"I'm okay," I interrupt her, willing to make her take a moment to just do nothing. "Come on. Get on the sofa, y/n," I insist, but since she doesn't move, I step behind her and wrap my arms around her waist to force her to go into the living room. "Come on," I smile, pushing her towards the sofa. "Fine," she gives up and sits down, but I get right next to her for a few minutes since I missed her.

"How was your day?" I put my forearms over my thighs and focus on her as she's cuddling our baby. "It was great, but I was just exhausted and could barely think straight."

Some guilt and self-hatred creep up on me. I'm at fault, even if this is not entirely because she would still be tired after the pregnancy, I do not do enough, barely anything.

I look up at Dongsik but see that he's back in the kitchen to cook. I wonder what y/n must think when she sees how much of a man he is when I have a kid and that I still act like one.

"What about you?" she brings my attention back on her. "Are you okay? You're not too tired?" she holds Mingi closes to her, and I clear my throat. "Why would I be tired? I haven't done anything."

"You took care of Mingi though," she leans back, getting comfortable. "That's nothing, and—"

"Dongsik took care of him more, bro," Jaehyun opens his mouth at the wrong time. "Stop lying," he chuckles, making me feel worse since it's about Dongsik, the perfect guy. Y/n gazes at me after hearing this rat. "Is that true?"

"It's..." I lick my lips. "That's not," Dongsik answers, standing at the door frame of the kitchen, getting my woman to have her eyes on his half-naked body. "I just helped him, he was nervous without you, but he fed him, he hugged him, and woke him up when he had to."

"Thank you, Dongsik," she shows her gratification, my eyes glancing down at my hands out of bitterness. I know he deserves that more than me, but I hate to hear it. "No need to, Miss Han."

"You can all call me y/n now, school is over," she softly laughs, and Dongsik smiles but nods. "All right, this just feels odd to address to you without being formal."

"Well, you can call me Miss Han if you feel more comfortable, but you don't have to," she kindly tells him, and he tucks his hands in the pockets of his tight jeans. "I'll get used to calling you y/n," he ruins his fingers through his hair, looking somewhat nervous now that she's here. He ruffles it and turns towards the kitchen, where the food is cooking, glancing away from her while I'm staring at his reaction and how weird he is. He slides his hand down his neck and cups the side of it. "I hope you're hungry...I cooked a lot," he looks back at her.

"I am starving, but I feel bad for not being the one in the kitchen," she smiles but stands up with our baby in her arms. "Don't feel like that, really. Women can be on the sofa while the man is cooking too," he chuckles but puts his hand back in his pocket while she's walking up to him. I feel terribly dumb.

I lick my lips but do not follow her, I stay on my spot and take my phone out to do something. I feel like she's mad at me for not taking care of Mingi properly.

'YOUR P.O.V'

"What have you cooked? This smells so good," I get closer to the saucepan as he's doing so, and he removes the top to show me. "It's a sauce that I cook at my house, and that's my mother and sister's favorite, it's not spicy," he grabs a spoon and dives it into the red preparation, but before letting me taste it, he blows on it. That's sweet of him, I can see that he's used to this. His mother must be proud.

"Here you are, I hope you like it," he places his other hand underneath in case something could drip and brings it to my mouth, so I try it, but Mingi moves his head up at the sight of the food in the spoon.

As soon as it's in my mouth, I raise my eyebrows and look up at him. "That's delicious. What did you put into it?" I give him the truth, finding this more than savory. "Gosh, I'm relieved to know you like it," he bites his lips and puts the spoon in the sink. "I put a lot of things in it. Tomato sauce, some vegetables that I cooked aside, some meat, spices, nothing really special," he shrugs but looks at me. "Well, you're a good cook then."

"Thank you," he softly laughs as if this compliment made him shy. "I don't know if you want to eat this with rice or pasta though, so I waited for you to tell me."

"What do you usually eat this with?" I ask for his opinion but feel my baby touch and toy with my hair. "Rice. Always."

"Ok then, let's eat rice with it," I nod as he made my stomach growl, but he surprises me even more. "I saw that some rice is already cooked and ready, so that's perfect."

"Good, at least you don't have to do that," I turn my head to look at my baby but see his eyes fixed on Dongsik. I peck his cheek, but he grasps all the attention. "He's a really cute boy," the one by my side says, making my mother's heart flutter. "I miss the time when my little sister was that small."

"Aw, how old is she now? You haven't told me," I beam at him, his soft side melting me. "She's six, and she's adorable. She's always so respectful and kind towards others, I love her so much."

"That's because of you and your mother, she was raised well, and she must be so happy with you," I remind him of the most important since a child becomes how he is because of the ones who are there for them, but he smiles and gazes down at Mingi. "I hope she is. I do everything for her to feel that way."

"I know she is. Trust me," I reassure him, noticing that he's not confident enough about this when he should definitely be. He reacts in a bashful manner but glances away, a smile still drawn upon his face, he closes the saucepan. "Well..." he clears his throat but puts his hands on the edge of the kitchen counter to grip it, and his eyes go back on me and my son, who cannot stop looking at him.

"What did you do for him to be so focused on you?" I smile but put my eyes on him, and he giggles. "I don't know. He fell asleep in my arms earlier, and I managed to make him smile multiple times."

"He fell asleep in your arms? He trusts you for sure now," I don't lie about it but feel surprised. Mingi would never be able to feel comfortable enough to fall asleep in a stranger's arms, Dongsik must really know what to do to make a child feel comfortable and safe with him. "I'm happy then, when I saw him, I really feared that he would cry if I was holding him, but it was not too hard to soothe him, and I changed his diaper, he must have known that he could trust me," he scoffs but straightens his back, and I decide to step closer to him. "Do you want to hug him?" I lean towards him while speaking to Mingi, but this cute baby does not react, his hands remain interested by my clothing.

"If you have to do something, or that your back hurts, I can hold him. I don't mind at all," he does not refuse or express any bother, and after what he told me about his sister and how much he misses when she was that small, I give him my baby and let him have him in his arms. No one other than a mother or someone like him knows how good this feels to have a child near you, to hold him and feel him hug you back, or feel protected and good with you. This means the world.

No matter how strong he seems, he holds my baby boy with the most softness ever and smiles at him. "I cannot imagine how it must feel to have a baby, like, I know what it feels like to have a baby sibling, but to see and be able to create your own little human and see them grow, teach them life and everything, it must be so wonderful," he speaks like an amazing and touched person, making me feel like he would want this to happen to him too. "Would you want a child in the future?"
