Warning
The world shined and shimmered like gold. Aurelia twisted her body around, looking everywhere around her and taking in every observation. She was in a large room, about the size of a small ballroom. There was a large window in front of where she was standing.
Something drew her to the window. She felt oddly compelled to peer outside.
She wasn't happy to see the outside world. The capital of Atharia, her home town, was in ruins. Smoke from the ruins wound its way into the sky, a gray blanket that covered everything. There was no sign of life.
Aurelia knew what had happened. There had been a revolt. And most of the citizens had died.
What about the royalty? Had they all died or were they okay? Maybe most of the royals were idiots, but if Lucas had gotten caught in the crossfire...
Aurelia felt a wave of grief over come her. Her parents and siblings were probably dead as well as all of the kind town folks and probably Lucas.
"You could have prevented all of this, you know." A familiar voice said.
Aurelia whipped around to find Mr. Gold smirking at her. She felt her breath halt.
"I could have." Aurelia whispered to herself.
"This is Atharia's fate, unless you do something about it."
"But what do I need to do?" Aurelia cried.
"Figure it out." Mr. Gold hissed. And with that he was gone.
Aurelia jolted awake. It had been just a dream. Her breathing was heavy.
"Are you okay?" Lucas wondered, looking up from his book.
"It was," She panted. "It was just a nightmare." Aurelia brushed a strand of hair from her face.
"What was it about?" Luke asked.
"It was about the kingdom. There had been some sort of revolt. Atharia was in ruins." Aurelia couldn't help but look down at her hands.
"Do you think... Do you think it could be true? Like could that actually happen?" Lucas gulped. Aurelia nodded.
"Definitely. I know that the lower class, like myself, are unhappy with the way things are being ruled. We're starving, impatient, and underpaid. It is very possible that if something isn't done soon they will revolt and many will end up dead." Aurelia shivered at the thought.
"We've got to do something." Lucas spoke in nearly a whisper. Determination flashed across his face. "I won't let that happen to Atharia."
"What can we do though?" Aurelia wondered. She sighed and fidgeted her hands.
"We can make sure that Atharia gets a better leader." Lucas said. He looked sure of his task.
"You're right, but how are we going to do that?" Aurelia mumbled. She wasn't so sure about what they were to do. She wanted to help the kingdom but they didn't have very many options. They were only two people after all.
"We'll find a way."
Aurelia suddenly felt grateful for meeting Lucas. He was right. They were going to make a change and help Atharia for the betterment of everyone. She also suddenly was thankful for her dream. It was a warning. And her future wasn't going to be like that.
