Taking a Spill
Aurelia wasn't the only one in the library when the arrived. Eurwyn frowned as the two entered.
"Uncle Eurwyn!" Serenity exclaimed huffing with breath. They had run as fast as the could to safe Aurelia before anything else could happen. She wiped her would be scowl off her face and she feigned surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"Looking for you." He drawled. "I thought you would be in the library like you said. I was going to show you my lab. I would have thought you'd be here. What were you off doing?" The man's careful observation cause Serenity to shiver.
"I b-believe that is our business, not yours." Lucas had no clue where the courage to say that came from. His thumb felt the cork cap to the cure. It was securely on. He carefully slid it into his pocket.
"I suppose you're right." Eurwyn resisted the desire to scowl. "What happened to Miss Aurelia? She look exhausted. Perhaps she should be escorted to her room?" Eurwyn suggested, a smirk tugging at his lips.
"Okay stop your lying." Lucas glared. "We know what you did."
"I haven't the faintest idea of what you're referring to." Eurwyn stuck his nose up, pompously.
"We may be much younger than you, but we are not fools. You've poisoned Aurelia!" Lucas snarled. His hand was once more on the potion.
"So what if I did?" Eurwyn's eyes narrowed. "It is foolish to suggest such a thing. I hold no ill will towards Miss Aurelia. Why would I poison her?"
"You do hold ill will towards her. I'm certain you don't like the idea of her ruling alongside me as Queen of Atharia. That's why you did it." Lucas argued, his eyes were narrowed too and his brows creased as he glared at Eurwyn.
"You have no proof." Eurwyn hissed.
"I'll drink your draft if I have to prove it." Lucas looked the older man straight in the eyes. It was true. He would sacrifice his fate to save Aurelia and stop a menace.
"I'd like to see you try." Eurwyn snarled. "I happen to have a vile on me." The man held out a vile of a deep green liquid. Lucas grabbed it with hesitation.
They were playing chicken and they both knew it. Eurwyn didn't expect Lucas to actually drink it. Lucas knew he actually would. The prince raised the vile to his lips and-
"Stop!" Serenity exclaimed. "Lucas, we know my uncle is a liar. You don't have to prove it." Serenity pouted.
"You know do you? You know nothing but lies." Eurwyn sniggered.
Lucas ignored Serenity. If it had to be done, it had to be done. He was just about to have the green liquid touch his lips when out of nowhere a dainty hand slapped it away.
"Lucas, it won't solve anything!" Serenity exclaimed.
The green vile smashed on the ground, sending glass and the emerald liquid everywhere.
"Alright, Eurwyn, let's say that you are telling the truth. Just let us get to Aurelia." Lucas stated.
"What are you going to do?" Eurwyn let out a snicker. "Kiss her? You can't wake her up."
Lucas rolled his eyes. "First off, what is with Zerawyn and children's stories? I mean seriously! Second off, that's not actually what happened in the original tale. I've read it. It was much more disturbing-"
"Your point, Prince Lucas?" Eurwyn wondered.
"Third off, I have something much better than a creepy gesture to wake her up." Lucas stated pulling out the cure. The golden-orange bottle seemed to have a glow to it.
Eurwyn's scowl did not go unnoticed by either Serenity or Lucas, despite how he tried to cover it up with a smirk.
"Be my guest." Eurwyn took a step back from where the sleeping maiden laid.
Lucas didn't even notice the older man stick his foot out just as he approached the girl.
The prince tripped, the cure slipped, and the orange liquid drenched the floor. Glass smashed for the second time that night.
"Whoops. I suppose his highness needs to practice his grace." Eurwyn sneered.
Lucas glared at him from the floor as Serenity just stared in shock. What were they supposed to do know?
