Spin Straw

Aurelia went willingly. Mrs. Miller tried to stop her, demanding that the knights explain why the king wanted Aurelia's presence. They ignored her and took Aurelia.

"We've brought the girl!" One of the knights exclaimed once they had reached the castle. They were right outside of the king's study.

"You may enter." King Letholdus told them. They did so.

Aurelia had never seen the king in person before but he looked like she had imagined him. He had dark brown hair, which was long and tied into a handsome ponytail. The king had a stubbly beard and wore fine purple robes.

"Do you mind telling me why am here?" Aurelia asked, placing her hands on her hips.

"You are here to spin some straw into gold for me." King Letholdus stated, as if it were the obvious thing in the world.

Aurelia stared at him as if he had just announced that intergalactic wizards were starting wars in space based on their religion.

"Er... What?" She asked.

"Is that anyway to speak to the king of Atharia?" One of the Knights said.

King Letholdus waved his hand. "It's fine. You are Aurelia Miller, are you not?"

"Yes I am, your majesty. What does that have to do with spinning straw into gold?" Aurelia questioned.

"Well, You can spin straw into gold. That's what I heard from your father, Coal. If he's lying, well, I don't like being lied to..." King Letholdus said. Aurelia was shocked. Why was her father boasting such lies? Well she knew why: alcohol. But why did he have to drag her into it?

"What if he did?" Aurelia sounded cautious.

"Well like I said, I don't like to be lied to. I'll have him executed." King Letholdus spoke nonchalantly.

Aurelia's eyes widened. Her father had merely been drunk, at least that's what she believed. Execution was a bit of an overreaction, wouldn't you think? Now she had to decide whether or not to let the king execute her father or to lie and most likely die herself. It was quite a weight on her shoulders.

"So I'll ask once more and only once more. Can you spin straw into gold?" King Letholdus questioned, suddenly quite serious.

Aurelia's breath seemed to halt for a moment as one airy word left her lips.

"Yes,"
