Goodbyes

"Dang, they move fast." Aurelia mumbled.

Lucas found himself grinning. "Yeah they do."

Aurelia eyed him, quizzically. "What's with you?" It seemed odd for him to be beaming about this.

"It's just nice that they like each other and that they went for it here." Lucas shrugged.

Aurelia smiled. "Yeah, it is nice."

It was pretty obvious, even if they hadn't been around Nyel and Serenity long, that the two royals had feelings for each other. It was slap-you-on-the-face-you'd-better-see-it, clear as crystal obvious.

"We should probably get out of here. Before they spot us." Aurelia suggested. Lucas nodded and the two began carefully crawling around the odd assortment of plants.

Serenity's loud and sweet chirp along with Nyel's deeper tone drifted off into the distance as the two walked farther from the entrance that Lucas and Aurelia crawled closer to.

"They'll probably turn around soon; hurry!" Aurelia whispered.

They dashed out of the gardens. It wasn't long before Serenity and Nyel arrived to greet their friends. They looked closer than ever. The two looked very relaxed, holding each other's hands.

"My, you look friendly." Aurelia teased, trying to act as if she hadn't seen Nyel's proposal. Lucas gave her a grin.

"Yes, you do. Something happen?" Lucas asked. Aurelia and Lucas shared a look for the game they were playing.

"Actually yes." Serenity giggled, excitedly. She held out her hand for the two to see. Resting on her ring finger was a gorgeous, ornate, aquamarine ring. The stone itself was a oval cut with three tiny, round diamonds on each of the two shorter sides and one diamond on both longer sides, directly in the middle of the side, where it connected with a band. It was enough elegance for Serenity for sure.

"Nyel has proposed to me." She said, trying to sound noble and relaxed. It was clear, though, that she was bouncing with excitement on the inside. She wasn't hiding it well.

"Congratulations!" It wasn't too hard for Aurelia to act surprised. She was glad to be able to congratulate them on it.

"That's fantastic news! We wish you the best of luck." Lucas smiled.

Serenity smiled back, before she remembered why they were there. Her smile slipped away.

"I guess this is goodbye." Serenity sighed.

"For now, at least." Lucas tried to soften the news.

Aurelia smiled softly. She'd probably never see these two again, but she didn't want to bring them down by saying that. She plastered the faux smile on her face.

They looked towards the castle to see a familiar, auburn haired girl running towards them. If anyone could make running look elegant it was Eve.

"We're saying goodbye already?" She asked, frowning. "I feel like we hardly met. Are you sure you can't stay longer?" Eve asked, her brown eyes mostly on Lucas.

"We have to go. We're sorry. It's been lovely here though. Thank you for your hospitality." Aurelia told them. Lucas nodded in agreement.

"Oh well, it was lovely to meet you." This time Eve's attention was completely on Lucas.

"Uh you too." He held out his hand.

Eve looked confused as she took his hand and shook it politely. Aurelia groaned while Serenity let out a small laugh. Lucas didn't seem to know much about women.

"Thank you for everything you've done here. You saved my sister. I will always be grateful for that." Nyel stated, bowing to Aurelia.

"It was no trouble." Aurelia dismissed. "I'm going to miss you all, but we have to leave."

Serenity threw her arms around both Aurelia and Lucas. "Stay out of trouble, you two!"

Aurelia squeezed her back. "We'll try."

"No guarantee though." Lucas laughed.

"Thank you for everything, Serenity." Aurelia whispered as Lucas broke away, leaving just the two of them.

"You're welcome. Keep an eye on him for me?" Serenity whispered back.

"Will do." Aurelia promised.

With their last goodbyes said, Aurelia and Lucas loaded into the carriage Nyel was loaning them. It would be able to take them as far as Arilace of Nathe, right outside Twisted Thicket which held Orion Hollow deep inside.

The adventure continued on.
