Curiousity

The doorknob shook and the door flew open. King Letholdus walked in followed by the prince and a guard.

The king's face broke into a wide, shocked smile. Lucas simply gaped at the sight.

The room was full of gold. Spools of gold sat upon more spools of gold. There was no more straw to be found.

"Brilliant!" King Letholdus exclaimed. "Absolutely brilliant! This is fantastic."

Aurelia smiled, glad that she had survived. She curtsied at the king.

"H-how?" Lucas stuttered. It was impossible! How had she done it?

"Tonight you shall have an even bigger room!" King Letholdus exclaimed, excitedly.

Aurelia's face fell. Another night? But she had to go to home and help with the mill. She had proven her talent as far as the king was concerned. Why wasn't that enough? What if the little man didn't appear that night? She had watched him, perhaps she could do it herself?

"Aurelia, may I have a word with you?" Lucas asked as they filed out of the small room of gold. Aurelia nodded, not wanting to disobey the prince.

He led her to a small guest bedroom that was nearby, so they could talk in private. He closed the door and Aurelia sat down on the bed folding her hands in her lap.

"What do you need?" Aurelia asked, knowing full well what he was going to ask.

"How did you do it?" Lucas wondered. He walked over to the bed and sat down next to Aurelia.

"I didn't." Aurelia said in a whisper. Lucas's eyes narrowed and confusion crossed his face.

"What do you mean?" He asked. Aurelia looked down at her hands, avoiding Lucas' gaze.

"Can you keep a secret?" Aurelia wondered. She didn't know why she was telling him anything, they weren't really friends or anything. She barely knew him, but she felt like she could trust them. Lucas nodded. "I can't spin straw into gold." She stated honestly.

"How was it-"

"A little man came in the middle of the night. He did it for me, okay?" Aurelia sighed. Lucas stared at her. "I know that sounds crazy but I'm not a liar. That's really what happened."

"Well, I'm willing to believe anything at this moment." Lucas gave Aurelia a small smile. She smiled back. "What are you going to do tonight?" Lucas asked a moment later.

Aurelia sighed. "I don't know. Hope that I learned by watching the man and pray for the best."

"Well then," Lucas stood up. "Let's see." He offered his hand.

"What?" Aurelia asked, about to take his hand.

"Let's see if you learned from the mysterious little man."

Aurelia smiled, weakly. She took Lucas' hand as she stood up.
