Chapter 8
DELAWARE BAY, DELAWARE, UNITED STATES
Thirteen hours had passed since Godzilla had last been seen and everyone was on edge at and on the bay.
James checked his rifle for the umpteenth time as he stood at the ready, staring out at the water, waiting. He could see stationary destroyers floating out at the mouth of the bay, all their guns are no doubt hot and ready to go to send Godzilla some hell.
Lining the shores of both halves were tanks and mobile missile launchers, their barrels pointed towards the water with men behind and beside them. Everyone could feel charge in the air. James could hear the murmuring of the other soldiers around him, even heard a few prayers. He did his best to ignore them all as he concentrated on his duty at hand.
The radios suddenly cackled to life, almost making him jump if it wasn't for his training. He squinted his eyes, trying to see if he could make out anything past the destroyers before, at last, he saw the three rows of dorsal plates that were heading straight for the destroyers. The plates came to a stop about a mile or two away from the vessels and all was still.
Then, Godzilla was rising up, straightening as he let out a loud roar as his tail rose and slapped down against the water's surface.
Just like that, the spell was broken and the destroyers began to unload on him, using whatever's in their arsenal to try to slow the beast down at least. Jets scrambled into the air from a close aircraft carrier and began an all-out war against him.
It was all for nothing as Godzilla fired his nuclear breath at the jets before turning it onto the destroyers, destroying almost all that was in his way. He used his tail on some of the destroyers that his breath didn't touch, smashing parts of them off or parts of them in.
Godzilla made quick work of the aircraft carrier before moving into the bay. The tanks and mobile launchers were quick to launch their attacks against him.
James stared at the hulking mass. Godzilla didn't seem to be hurt by the countless attacks. In fact, he seemed almost... annoyed with them. A light caught the man's attention and it took him a split second to realize that Godzilla was charging up again. He watched as Godzilla blasted the units on New Jersey's shore. He heard rumbling as the units began to pull out, but he knew it was too late. Godzilla was already turning towards them.
"Marty... Sue...I'm sorry..."

SCIENTIFIC BUILDING, ALTOONA
Martin felt as if cold water had drenched him, but he didn't know why at that moment. With a shake of the head, he looked back down at his phone screen. "Godzilla just entered Delaware Bay. Took everything out."
"The bay? Martin..." Susan trailed off.
"James is fine. He probably got out in time."
Susan took a deep breath, nodding before looking at her phone once more. "Hey, reports are coming in on Varan. He surfaced... looks like he knows that Godzilla's coming for him. He took out the military units there."
"They're going to clash somewhere in Pennsylvania, aren't they?"
"With their current speeds... I fear it's quite possible." Timothy answered gravely.
"Maybe we should try to get out while we can, then."
"I agree."
