Glynda's POV

After finishing with all of my paperwork, I dismiss a blushing (Y/N) for the night with a nervous smile of my own. Once (Y/N) closes the door, I listen in some for his footsteps. Once the sound fades into the distance, my shoulders fall as I let out a sigh. Oh Oum, did I just ask (Y/N) out on a date? My palms start to get clammy as I break out in a worried, cold sweat as I think that. Well, I don't mean it like that, but I can see how people can see it that way. I take a minute to stop and breath to calm myself down. My chair makes a scraping sound as I push it back to stand up. Does (Y/N) think I asked him out on a date!? Okay, maybe I should just message (Y/N) and cancel or go and tell him in person. I make my way towards the door before stopping. Wait, I need to stop and breath again.

"... I know that getting like this before doing anything will not lead to anything productive." (Y/N)'s words come back to me as I take a breath. (Y/N) was right then and his words still ring true now. Working myself up into a frenzy will not help. (Y/N) is also quite smart so he probably doesn't think I asked him out. My hand raises up and covers my heart as my pulse slows down. I wouldn't mind if he did think that... Wait? My hand tightly grabs the fabric of my top as I realize what I just thought. No. Just no. I can not be having thoughts like that of (Y/N). He's one of my students for crying out loud! That is a complete abuse of my position as his teacher. I stumble a little backward, away from the door. Eventually, I make it to one of the spare chairs that I keep in the room.

"Calm down." My voice is a little shaky as I speak, "You are overthinking this. Whether or not (Y/N) thinks this is a date doesn't matter. If he thinks it's a date then I can clear everything up tomorrow when I meet up and if he doesn't think that, then no need to worry. I breathe a couple of times to help calm myself down. I need to stop getting so worked up and emotional about things. I keep getting too emotional about my classes and students, and every time I feel like a fool when my students don't show the same excitement that I do. Heck, I nearly fought Yale myself when she insisted on fighting (Y/N) earlier today. (Y/N) tends to get me like this... I need to get my emotions in check in general... Oh my Oum I have been talking out loud this entire time." I say as I realize that. Quickly, I look around the room for some reason, as if making sure no one heard me. Of course, no one heard me. I'm just getting too worked up again. Alright, back to the main topic. I need to not worry about meeting up with (Y/N) tomorrow and that it is not a date. I stay in the seat for a little while as I calm down some more. I then smile some as I get up from the seat. I should get back to my room and call it a night. I don't want to be too tired for tomorrow. As I gather my things I start to chuckle some as a thought comes to mind. I got so worked up over this when I really doubt that (Y/N) would even be interested in someone who's older than him like I am. My head shakes as I smile and chuckle to myself. Just worried myself over nothing.

Time Skip To The Next Day

(Y/N)'s POV

Laying on top of my bed are three recently bought, freshly opened shirts. Looking at them I think of how odd it was for me to go to Vale last night just to buy three shirts that I normally wouldn't get, all so I can go back to Vale with my teacher today. I let my nerves get to me and now I'm standing at the foot of the bed trying to not break out into a sweat. Calm down (Y/N), you have already taken three showers today, no need to make yourself take a fourth. I shake my head as I try to clear my mind and focus on the task at hand. Picking out a shirt to wear. I can go for a more casual looking t-shirt so that I look comfortable, but that also runs the risk of looking unkempt and like I just don't care. The latter of the two is the last thing that I want to do. I could go for the button up shirt and jacket. I think those look pretty good and have a more professional look to them, though I also run the risk for overdressing. Then again there is always the third option of dressing in just the button up shirt. It's kind of in between the two but that also has the risk of trying to please everyone but end up pleasing no one.

"Gahh why am I overthinking this?!" I say in anguish. Turning, I set down hard on my bed and put my head in my hands. The sound of a frustrated sigh fills the room as I try to calm down and focus. Soon one hand falls from my face as I pinch my nose with the other hand. Come on (Y/N), you have spent so much time with Professor Goodwitch that this shouldn't bother you. I mean she just wants to head into Vale to get some supplies and she is probably going to use this opportunity to teach me about something important. Probably about the various types of dust that are available on the market or how to spot faulty dust out there. Maybe she is using this as an opportunity to hint that I need to upgrade my weapon. At that thought, I look over at (W/N), which is currently resting in its scabbard on the weapon rack. I push myself off of my bed and walk over to (W/N) and pick it up. (W/N) makes a snikt as I pull it out of the scabbard. I then give the blade a look over. A reversed bladed katana, not something you see every day. From the outside, it looks simple, like every other sword. My hand then runs across the blade as I think, but it's not. (W/N)'s different. Yes, that difference made learning to wield it a little difficult, but the work paid off. I then chuckle to myself some as I think of how I won't change (W/N). I then stand there for a minute or two before I sheath my weapon and place it back on the weapons rack. I then turn around and walk past my bed and to my closet, where some of my normal clothes are and pull out a t-shirt that I wear when I am around my dorm and when I walk around campus. Basically my normal clothes. I then slip my shirt on and look at myself in the mirror with a smile.

"Same old same old," I say with a smile. As I look myself over again I then realize that while I was distracted with my thoughts, I let my nerves get to me and started sweating. As my face falls, "Looks like its time for the fourth one." I say with a disappointed sigh. I take my shirt off and throw it off to the side as I grab another shirt that I usually wear around the campus and dorm and then head to my bathroom. Honestly, I'm not that upset about this. The lump in my throat and knot in my stomach aren't there anymore and I am smiling a bit to myself. Today is going to be good, no matter what. Just have to act like me and remember that this is just like any other lesson with Miss Goodwitch. At least I think its like any other lesson. I shrug some as I walk into the bathroom, yeah its probably just like any other lesson. I glance over at the clock just to make sure there is enough time for my fourth shower. Yeah, there's enough time for this and for me to get dressed. I then smile some more as I think to myself, at least I have a good excuse to leave Beacon and do something new for a change.

Time Skip To That Evening

"... and that is why I use a riding crop as my weapon." Miss Goodwitch says as we walk down a sidewalk of the Vale. The sky is mostly black now as the lights from the buildings, lamp posts, and various other places light the way for us.

"Oh, that makes sense." I say as I carry four bags in each arm, "I never quite gave it much thought, but now that I think about it, it makes total sense." Miss Goodwitch smiles happily as she uses her semblance to carry some of the other bags in the air. In her hands, she only has a small, thin, rectangular purse of which holds all of her Lien. Honestly, after all of the stuff we have gotten today, I would hazard a guess that her purse is bottomless. My arms wobble some as I remind myself of the large load of things I am currently packing. Before I can muse over this any further, my teacher's heel clicks stop and I soon pass her. As my feet stop and I turn back, I ask, "Everything okay professor?" Looking back, Miss Goodwitch is currently staring at a building. She then turns to me and smiles as she points to said building with her purse.

"Want to stop here and grab a bite to eat?" At the end of her question, I turn my attention to the building that she is talking about. Turns out it is a nice, small, restaurant. "Or at least rest and get something to drink?" I turn back to her before speaking.

"Sure, if that's what you want," I say with a nod as she then shakes her head with an odd smile.

"(Y/N), I asked you if you wanted to go here and that doesn't really answer my question." Fair point I suppose. I then look at the building again to see how it looks. Judging by the weathering on the bricks, the place is quite old and rustic so I can expect a more lived-in feel inside and judging by what I can hear coming from inside, it's not one of those restaurants where they assault your ears with loud music and the place isn't very crowded. My head nods as I look back at my emerald eyed teacher.

"I wouldn't mind eating here." My teacher gives me a pretty smile as she heads to the door.

"Good. I would like to reward my valiant helper for carrying some of the bags." She says happily as she soon takes hold of the door handle and holds the door open for me. As I walk by her I give my instructor a nod.

"Thank you." Once I am all the way into the restaurant, the smell of food and a slight bit of mildew fills my nose. Luckily the food smells quite good and easily drowns out most of the less than pleasant smell of the surface fungi. At least it confirms my suspicions of the place being old. Miss Goodwitch soon appears at my side and gives me a concerned look.

"Is everything okay, (Y/N)? You have an... odd look on your face." I shake my thoughts away as I give her a bit of a smile.

"It's alright, professor. I just smelled something odd, that's all." The concern stays on her face.

"Oh, we can leave if you want." I shake my head again, this time as an answer though.

"No, it's alright, Miss Goodwitch. When you have a semblance like mine, you tend to smell some weird things a lot." My professor smiles as she lets out a cute giggle at my words. Her smile and laugh seem to be infectious and I soon smile back at her. Soon enough a blue haired waitress walks over to us with a questioning look. I soon see where she is looking and I nudge Miss Goodwitch's arm and she questioningly looks at me. Professor Goodwitch then notices that her bags are still floating in the air and the waitresses' odd look. With an embarrassed blush on her face, the bags soon float over right next to my teacher so that they aren't just taking up air space in the restaurant. Then with an embarrassed smile and blush on her face, Miss Goodwitch brushes her hair to the side as she speaks.

"My apologies." She says with a nervous chuckle. The waitress loses her odd look and nods at us.

"It's alright. So is it just the two of you or are there more?" She asked with a fake smile.

"Just us." Miss Goodwitch says with a genuine smile. The waitress nods as she turns and motions for us to follow her. The restaurant is about medium sized with normal types placed in a checkered pattern across the floor with a few booths along the walls. Along the wall adjacent to the entrance is the kitchen, with a nice rectangular window carved into the wall, giving us a view of the kitchen. We pass by a couple of the tables, some empty, some not, as we make our way to our table with our waitress guiding the way. Once in the corner, she stops and turns to us with the same forced smile as before speaking.

"Is this okay?" The waitress asks. Before I can speak or do anything, my teacher speaks.

"This is perfect, miss." Professor Goodwitch says as she strides over to one side of the booth and quickly sits down with some bags resting between my teacher and the wall and the others resting on the floor. Not wanting to look like a fool, I quickly take my seat and trying to put all of the bags down without looking silly, though I fail at accomplishing that last. The waitress then places two menus down for us on the table.

"Great. My name is Topaz and I will be your waitress tonight. Can I start you two off with any drinks?" The blue haired woman asks in an impatient tone.

"I would like a glass of Porffor Mega, please." Topaz then turns to me.

"Water please." The bluenette waitress then nods as she jots down our orders.

"Alright coming right up." Topaz then turns around and quickly walks away. Once she is gone, Miss Goodwitch relaxes a little and lets her back lean on the back of her seat.

"Well, this place seems nice." The blonde huntress says in a tone as if she was trying to work for any positive points. "Kind of... a lived-in feel." My lips curl a little bit upwards.

"It is alright. I could do without the mildew and I would personally have less tables so they wouldn't have to stick to a checkered pattern and our waitress hasn't given us the best first impression, but it is a fine place so far." The combat teacher then gives me a questioning look, "The odd smell I mentioned earlier is mildew starting to grow on the wall with the front door." My teacher nods with understanding.

"Ahh, that makes sense. I thought some food was bad or something along those lines. Would you like to leave then?" She asks, referring to the mildew. I shake my head before answering.

"No, it's fine. The fungus hasn't grown that much to be a health problem yet and the other problems I mentioned weren't that bad. Honestly, the second thing is more of what I would do if I owned this place than me really complaining." My words seem to answer her question well enough to put her at ease.

"Okay, (Y/N)." She says with a smile before asking, "But what did you mean by the last part?"

"Hmm? Oh, I mean that our waitress Topaz hasn't been the best representation of the establishment. Given the forced smile and the quick, impatient tone to her voice. I wouldn't blame her though, judging by how much makeup she has on and the amount of dark still showing from below her eyes, Topaz is either nearing the end of her shift or has had little sleep lately." Professor Goodwitch looks at me a little impressed as she asks.

"And you got all of that from spending some time in the restaurant?"

"From when I walked in, yes." She looks even more impressed. Before the teacher can respond however, I turn to look away from Miss Goodwitch and towards Miss Topaz who is making her way over to us with our drinks. Judging by the lack of words, Miss Goodwitch probably knows why I am not talking. Topaz then gives us her fake smile as she places our drinks down and walks off again to serve another table. I as I reach out and grab my glass I then speak. "Yes I heard her coming." I then take a drink of my water. As I do that, Professor Goodwitch laughs a little bit.

"You keeps surprising me with your semblance, (Y/N). Each time I think I figure it out, I realize how little I actually understand your amazing gift." My shoulders shrug as I lower my glass to the table.

"Sometimes that gift comes in the form of sleepless nights and sensory overload," I say in a lower than usual voice. That seems to drop the mood some as my blonde professor loses some of her happiness.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N). I should have thought a little more before I spoke." I brush it off like it's nothing and then take another drink before speaking.

"No, it's fine professor." I don't quite know what else to say to her so I just stop there. My emerald eyed teacher then brushes her hair to the side as she looks a bit uncomfortable.

"How about we talk about something else (Y/N)?" She says a bit quickly. My lips curl into a smile as I nod.

"Sounds good professor." She sighs a little bit in relief before taking a sip of her wine. "So have you heard the news lately?"

"The new mission that Professor Ozpin announced a couple of days ago?" My professor nods at that, "I was coming back from the fields around that time, so I caught the tail end of it."

"Oh well, that explains why you looked confused when the other students were gossiping about it." I nod in response.

"I would have asked my classmates about it, but I don't think any of them like me enough to help." My instructor gives a small, sad nod in agreement.

"You could have asked me though." She then follows up.

"I guess. I just didn't want to be a bother." My professor gives me a soft smile as she reaches her hand out to gently place it on my hand.

"You are not a bother, (Y/N)." She says in a kind, but firm voice as if she was saying a fact and not an opinion. I feel my cheeks heat up some at her caring words and kind gesture. I soon hear her cute giggle once more as her hand leaves mine and returns to her. "Well, I can fill you in on the rest of the announcement if you want?" I nod my head yes to her offer.

"Thank you." I manage to get out despite how flustered she has me.

"No problem, (Y/N). So essentially there was a joint project between the four kingdoms to have an expedition go to the northwest continent of Periculum to see if there are any new types of dust, new types of Grimm, and to see what has happened to the ancient Periculians that once lived there." Oh, that sounds extremely interesting.

"Really? All four kingdoms agreed to do this?" My professor nods her head.

"With some help from Ozpin and a couple of other headmasters, the councils were convinced to work together. Vacuo would provide a good few huntsmen to help with exploration, Atlas would provide some of their top scientists for the research and some AK-130s for protection, Vale would be sending a handful of scientists, huntsmen, and soldiers, and Minstral would be doing a majority of the funding for the expedition. All for kingdoms chipping in to work as a team. At least that's how the headmaster put it." I nod along as I listen to her explain.

"So the announcement was for students to try out?" Miss Goodwitch shakes her head.

"No, the expedition left about two months ago."

"Oh." I blush a little in embarrassment at that.

"What headmaster Ozpin had announced was that a professor and at least one student would be assigned to help with a rescue party since the last message we received was one of help." I then shake my head a little in confusion.

"Wait, a student?" Miss Goodwitch nods as he takes a drink, "But why? Wouldn't that be risky?" My teacher then responds after putting down her drink.

"Well because of the expedition we're a little low on inactive huntsmen. Most are either out on missions, doing their own thing, or were sent to Periculum. Some of the only ones left are teachers at Beacon and we can not afford to send out and possibly loss many of our teachers." She explains with as much confidence as she can, but the worry is evident on her face. At least to me, that is.

"So basically its send a student or send a teacher alone?" Miss Goodwitch slowly nods her head as if she was thinking of something.

"Yes. We've been backed into a bit of a corner now, haven't we?" Sadly I have to agree with her on that point. The uneasy stays for a minute or two before the emerald-eyed combat instructor smiles at me, "But don't worry though. I'm sure the headmaster won't just send one student and I'm positive he won't send anyone below a third-year. That would be a bit too risky." I smile at her attempt to cheer up the mood.

"That is true, professor," I say with the smile still on my face. Around that time I hear Topaz's footsteps. My professor and I then lean back and read the menus. Soon enough Topaz arrives and takes our orders. Guess we can talk some more after this. Hopefully about something less ominous.

Time Skip to Later

Miss Goodwitch and I laugh some as we walk down the hallway to her room. As we walk I realize that I like her laugh even more than her giggles which would make me blush if I weren't busy laughing with her. Soon enough we get to my teacher's room, where we stop. My blonde professor then turns to me with a smile.

"Thank you for the evening (Y/N) and thank you so much for carrying the bags for me." She says happily, "I really appreciate it." My arms shake just a little bit at her mentioning the bags. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about them.

"No problem professor." I give her a smile as I say that. She giggles a little at my smile, showing some more evidence that she drank just a little too much at the restaurant. My professor then places the bags that she was carrying with her semblance down on the ground before opening the door to her room. Then, slowly, she uses her semblance to float the bags into her room. Eventually, she gets to the bags in my arms and soon the heavyweight leaves me, allowing me to at least feel my arms again. I let out a sigh of relief and relax some as my arms fall to my sides. Apparently, in her current mindset, Professor Goodwitch thinks that is the funniest thing in the world and she starts laughing again. Yeah, she had a little too much. Once she stops laughing, which felt like it lasted for a few minutes, my teacher smiles and looks at me a bit odd. Given the smile, the look is probably well intended so I won't worry much.

"Thank you again for agreeing to this (Y/N). I know we didn't do too much but I still had fun. Plus it's good to get out of the school every now and again." I nod at her words.

"I understand that and again, not problem professor." She smiles some more at my words. I smile back before I move to leave, "I should get going though. It's a bit late and I need to get some ice packs for my arms." Just as I start to leave however, Miss Goodwitch's hand shoots out and takes a hold of me.

"Wait." She says, causing me to stop and look back at her. Once I do, she lets go of my arm and moves her hands up to take a hold of my head on each side. I look from side to side without moving my head as I start to blush in my nervousness. Before I can ask what is happening, Professor Goodwitch then moves my head a little before she gently places a kiss on my forehead. I feel her soft, warm lips stay there for what feels like an eternity as I tense up. What is happening?! Then, after what was really just a minute, Miss Goodwitch stops and moves back as she lets go my my head. With a kind and gentle smiles, she then speaks in a war voice, "Goodnight, (Y/N)." After that she then steps into her room and closes the door, leaving me standing alone and flabbergasted in the, thankfully, empty hallway.

"... What?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry that it took so long with getting this out. Hopefully it is to your liking and hopefully the sword metaphor wasn't too cheesy and if it was too dumb then I apologise. Fun fact, if you want to call it that, I was originally going to have the Reader get his new shirts from a store at Beacon. I know that some colleges and even some primary schools have "school stores", so I thought that it would make sense if Beacon had one, especially since it is so large. I didn't include it though since I didn't know if people would think that was stupid or not. I know that some don't like it in fanfics where the authors decide to do some world building of their own. I personally don't have too much of a problem with it, since I feel RWBY could definitely use some more world building, but I can see people's complaint that makes the fanfiction deviate from the series, so I guess I understand it. Then again I guess I undermine my own point by naming the currently unnamed dragon shaped continent, but I my defense it was name the thing or just refer to it as the unknown thing or that continent to the northwest, so I picked the former. Oh well, guess there is always going to be some problem with the stories. Jeez, I had quite a bit to say with this closing bit. Guess all I can say now is have a great day/night depending on when/where you are reading this.
