Chapter 23 (edited)
"We could have spent tonight by ourselves," Louis grumbled to Sharon, pulling her towards him and whispering in her ear. She trembled against him, sort of agreeing.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think," she said silencing him with a kiss, but not before she caught Rhonda watching them with a scowl on her face. She smiled at her, thinking, get over it already, and then turned her attention back to Louis.
"Are you sure you don't wanna try this?" she asked passing her glass to him.
"Nah, it looks too sweet," he said pulling a face. "And maybe you shouldn't drink so much of it."
She leaned back frowning. "What do you mean?"
"You don't know what's in it."
"It's just fruit juice," she said with a small laugh. "Maybe with the tiniest bit of liquor."
"Are you sure?" He took an experimental sip. "Yeah, there's definitely more than just juice in it."
"Oh Louis, I can't believe you're being so serious!" Laughing she grabbed his hand. "Let's go join the party, I don't think anyone else is gonna try and gatecrash."
His face relaxed as he let her drag him into the living room, where the main action was. "Oh, god," she groaned, leaning into him.
"What's up?"
"Who let Steven in, and those lame-brained cheerleaders?" She gave him an accusing look. "You were at the door?"
"They must have arrived earlier," he said frowning as he looked in Steven's direction. "Do you seriously think I'd let him anywhere near you?"
She took a sip of her drink giggling. "Okay, I know you wouldn't." She slipped her arms around his waist and kissed his cheek. "Come dance with me." She dragged him into the centre of the living room where a few couples were dancing and wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her body against him.
~~~
Goose nudged Rhonda as Sharon drained the remainder of her drink. She couldn't help sniggering, little miss goody two shoes was certainly letting her hair down.
"What's so funny?" Davey asked joining them.
"We're just watching Sharon enjoy herself," Goose said smirking.
Davey frowned. "I'm not following."
"She doesn't know there's alcohol in her drink," Goose said lowering his voice. "Like shit loads of alcohol."
"Not shit loads," Rhonda hastily added, it wasn't that much...
"Well, one drink's not gonna get her wasted," Davey said his frown deepening. "And why would you want to do that? What's the point?"
Rhonda looked at Goose and he shuffled from one foot to the other. "We're just having a laugh, jeez lighten up."
Davey's frown deepened. "I dunno guys, it doesn't feel right to me. I mean it's her house, her party, and you're out to ruin her night."
"We're not gonna ruin her night," Rhonda said quickly, attempting to suppress her own doubts. "We won't let things go too far."
Davey looked unconvinced but he let Goose give him a glass of the punch. "Here, try it."
"That's not too bad," he grudgingly admitted not realising it wasn't the drink they were giving Sharon.
"Exactly," Goose said smugly. "And I think Sharon would agree with you."
Rhonda held in a laugh. "It's nice, isn't it."
"I guess so," Davey said taking another sip but not before giving them a suspicious glance.
"If you don't want it, give it back," she said reaching for his glass. "There's not a whole lot left to go around."
"No, it's fine. I like it." Davey gave her and Goose another look and then left them to join the main party.
"Goose, I'm really not sure about this," she said watching Davey go.
"Oh come on." He grinned at her like a second-grader. "After the way they treated you?"
"So long as no one gets hurt," she said biting down on her bottom lip.
"Why don't we go up to your room," Louis said to Sharon, nuzzling her ear. "So we can spend a bit of time alone together? It doesn't look like anyone else is gonna try and gatecrash."
Sharon looked around her. Steven was stood with a group of jocks, one of the cheerleaders hanging off his arm and his every word. "I don't know how he had the nerve to sneak in here," she hissed. "I should go and throw him out myself."
Louis grinned. "Or we could just go up to your room."
"Oh, that would be kinda rude."
"Rude?" He laughed but didn't continue as Goose and Rhonda joined them.
"This is a great party," Goose said thrusting another drink into her hand. "Thanks for inviting us."
"You're the hostess with the mostess," Rhonda added giggling.
"Thanks," she said taking the drink from Goose and putting her empty glass down. "I don't think everyone is having such a good time though." She looked over at Stephanie and Johnny who were barely speaking to each other, while Paulette was sat in the corner watching them intently.
"Steph's gonna have to bite the bullet and finish with him," Rhonda said lowering her voice to a whisper.
Sharon nodded. "Yeah, she can't keep dragging it out like this."
"You dunno what you're talking about," Goose said sharply but Rhonda shook her head.
"We're right. Steph's had it with Johnny but she doesn't know how to tell him. This has been a long time coming."
"Oh come on." Goose looked incredulous. "Johnny's the class act."
Sharon giggled. "Do you wanna get with him yourself? Cos personally I think you do."
"Shut up!" he snapped but Louis laughed.
"I think Sharon might have a point." They faced off, Goose glaring while Louis continued to snicker.
God, what's got Goose so wound up, Sharon thought rolling her eyes. It's not like he's the one getting dumped.
"I'm gonna make some more drinks," Goose finally said backing off. "You guys have fun."
"Wow, he's sensitive tonight," Sharon said turning to Louis. "Talk about overreacting."
"Ignore him, babe," Louis said pulling her closer to him. "He's not worth thinking about."
~~~
Goose whispered something in Rhonda's ear which she didn't catch but she couldn't ignore his arm dragging her towards the kitchen.
"I'm not gonna let her say shit like that about me," he said his face turning red. "Who the hell does she think she is?"
"Relax it was a joke." She looked at him bewildered, she'd always had him down as a laid back sort of guy, definitely not someone who'd get upset over Sharon Cooper's snarky comments.
"But, she said..." Goose opened his mouth, before closing it dumbly, and making his way into the kitchen, Rhonda following.
"Don't let her wind you up," she said closing the door behind them. "It's not worth it."
"I'm not wound up," he said giving her a devilish grin. "I'm gonna make her another drink." He snickered as he began mixing various concoctions together. "Dimucci will be thanking me in the morning."
"What do you mean?" she asked with a sinking feeling.
"Well, Lou didn't want us all here, he wanted to get her alone. Let's just say I'm helping him out."
Rhonda blanched. "Goose I don't think this is a good idea."
"It's payback remember? Don't flake out now."
"I guess," she said uncertainty gripping her. She wanted to see Sharon drunk and making a fool of herself but anything more than that was going too far.
~~~
Sharon looked around the room, her eyes struggling to focus. "I am so tired," she said swaying slightly. "I guess I have been running around all day."
"Why don't you lie down for a while," Louis said. "The party's in full swing, no one will notice."
She looked around uncertainly, before letting him guide her out of the room. I'll just rest of half an hour, that should sort me out, she thought as he steered her into the bedroom, closing the door behind them.
"Ouch!" She winced as she caught her knee against a set of drawers.
"Are you okay?" Louis asked.
"I'm fine, I just feel a bit weird."
"You should lie down then," he said gently pushing her down on the bed. He lay down next to her. "Any better?"
"I think so," she said uncertainly, and after a moment he kissed her. Instinctively she put her arms around him letting him pull her closer. His body was pressing against her, pushing her back into the mattress, and she kissed him harder. I shouldn't be doing this, we're going to go too far...I should stop him, I know I should stop him. Why haven't I stopped him? I can't think straight.
"Louis?" She pressed her hand on his chest, her head spinning.
"Yeah."
"I feel really strange."
"Relax, it's okay," he said kissing her again, his hand pushing her skirt up. She tried to stop him but her body was not cooperating with her brain, or maybe she didn't want it to. However, the weight of him upon her was warming her up and not in a good way, if she didn't get some fresh air...
"Louis stop it!"
He jumped back startled. "What's wrong?"
A wave of nausea made her bolt upright, and she dashed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
